TL;DR
Sony WH-1000XM Series
The Sony WH-1000XM series, particularly the XM4 and XM5 models, are frequently recommended due to their superior noise cancellation capabilities and excellent sound quality. Users appreciate features like touch control and integration with Google Assistant [2:2]. The XM5 model is praised for its balance of noise cancellation and sound, although some users note that the microphone quality could be improved
[5:3].
Bose QuietComfort Series
The Bose QuietComfort headphones, such as the QC35 II and QC45, are highly regarded for their comfort and durability. They provide effective noise cancellation, making them suitable for long conference calls or work sessions [3:3],
[5:6]. Some users have noted that while the audio quality is excellent, the microphone may not be the best for noisy environments
[3:6].
Jabra Evolve Series
The Jabra Evolve 75 is recommended for office settings where dual connectivity (PC and Bluetooth) is beneficial [1:1],
[2:6]. It offers good noise cancellation and allows for seamless switching between devices, which is ideal for multitasking in a professional environment.
Other Considerations
For those seeking entry-level options, the Anker SoundCore Life Q20 and Monoprice BT-300ANC offer decent noise cancellation at a lower price point [4:2]. Additionally, AirPods Pro 2 are suggested for those who prefer in-ear headphones with effective noise cancellation
[5:12].
When selecting noise-canceling headphones, consider factors such as comfort for extended wear, microphone quality for calls, and additional features like device connectivity and battery life.
looking for ways to reduce noises i have 4 kids 3 are toddlers they can create a lot of noise at times
Sony XM4s or XM5s are basically as good as they get for the over ear noise cancelling and other great features.
I have the XM4s and love them. Highly recommend. Only complaint is I have small head and the smallest adjustment is where I need to keep them.
I like my Bose QC45S
I have JBL LIVE660NC and they work pretty great
AirPod max
Jabra evolve 75 is wonderful. I Share my office w/ my wife and we both have a set - cant hear the other, and the mic doesn't pick each other's convo's up - solid!
those do look pretty legit
This is the video that sold me on them - seeing live examples was a no brainer
Short and sweet. I'm looking for a HIGH quality headset to use in an office setting. Currently i'm using a plantronics that works fairly good, But it doesn't allow me to listen to music and i'd like it to be a tad more noise cancelling. The office setting i'm in is LOUD.
Appreciate the help!
I can really recommend the Sony WH-1000XM3. Bluetooth and cable, very good noise cancelling, touch control including nc-passthrough for quick conversations and really good sound with a clear but forceful bass comparable to Sennheiser HD-25. Has integration with google assistant. The headset microphony quality is not the best, but should be acceptable.
I have the WF-1000XM3's, I'm blown away by how good the noise cancelling on them is so I imagine the WH-1000XM3's are amazing.
Appreciate the help!
I really like my Plantronics Voyager Focus (PLT Focus).. Noise cancelling is good, music sounds good, and the software package is decent for what it does.
Appreciate the feedback!
Something, something Bose.
If you want the aboslute best noise cancelling for both your ears and the mic., their avaiation stuff is awesome, and awesonly expensive.
Seconded; I use a Bose QuietComfort 35 II and it works great for audio/calling. The noise cancelling is also awesome.
Appreciate the help!
Jabra evolve 75. Mine can do pc w dongle and bluetooth in parallel
I’ve very much enjoyed the evolve 80’s.
I went with this one! Thanks!
I've finally got a digital nomad job and I need headphones that cancels noise and has good quality sound/mic. Do you have any recommendations? Which options out there are you happy with?
TIA!!
Keep in mind that most Bluetooth noise cancelling headphones are not good at canceling noise through the microphone, so even though you hear them well they will still hear your surroundings (ie coffee shop chatter) This includes any of the Sony XM series, Bose QC series and so (I have tested them). In my experience, the Sennheiser GSP600 have very good passive noise isolation, built-in microphone and are wired: the audio quality is far superior than any wireless headphones.
Ty
I like my Bose noise canceling headphones. Music sounds fantastic. Can take calls. Never had any issues connecting via Bluetooth. I bought Beats headphones, and they don’t compare at ALL to my 5-y old Bose. Highly recommend.
Agreed. Bose QC35 are my favorite just due to comfort. I can easily wear them in a 2-3 hour conference call. The Sony XM4s have better audio quality but who cares when I can only wear them 20 minutes at a time.
Ditto. I'm on my second pair. Love my Bose!
I was just going to say this. I bought hubby a pair 10 years ago and they are still fab. the pads got damaged by the cat and was able to replace on Amazon and because his were wired, once again, on Amazon got an adapter that makes them blue tooth and weighs virtually nothing.
Hubby has tinnitus and these have worked so well with that,
I second this I love my Bose but I will say the mic on them isn’t the best
sony wh-1000xm5
I still have my XM3s from 2018 and they are working great!
Sony XM5.
Airpod Pro 2s if you want in-ear. I absolutely love these things.
Hi everyone,
I’m currently looking to buy a new pair of headphones and I’d like them to have noise cancellation and to be able to use them in an open office environment. I won’t necessarily listen to music when i work, but I’d like to stop the noise around me even when I’m not listening to music/podcasts etc.
Thanks :)
Entry-level, <100 USD, good sounding, nice cancelling wireless:
Bought the Sony xm3 last week, I'm very impressed by the noise cancellation. It fits well, sound is amazing and easy to adjust through the application manager.
I did not go for the xm4 because I do not think the difference is specs is worth the extra cost.

The best noise canceling headphones in my opinion are the Sony WH-1000XM4. Cheap noise canceling headphones aren’t very good in my opinion. The Bose QC35 are almost as good but have better ergonomics.
The title says it all, which noise cancelling headphones would you choose for your productive work? Budget is not my main concern, simply want to buy a high-quality and durable one, so feel free to leave any suggestions that you're happy with. Thanks in advance.
Sony xm5, great microphone, battery lasts me a full work week and sometimes more
Only use it for work + music, it is not for working out or walking in the rain
Came here to say this.
I’m an audio nerd, and I spend an inordinate amount of time/money on music quality.
XM5 is an astoundingly good product for the money. I use for work calls and enjoying music whilst I work. They are as near as damnit perfect for consultants. Auto switching ability between devices is a particular boon for me.
The only downside is their size (applies to all cans), which brings me to turn second best product… The AirPods Pro II, which I use for calls on the go, working out etc.
Still rocking my XM3s from from 2018 - still going strong, they were already future-proofed with USB-C (which at the time was actually super annoying); I fly every week for work and still love them.
i know a lot of people like the XM5’s, but I had the opposite experience. Bought them a bit after launch, tried them for maybe a week and ended up returning them.
The adaptive NC was honestly pretty bad. The ANC didnt feel as good as I’d expect, and it’s levels constantly adjusting in situations where I’d expect it to stay stable (like in a car or a plane) was driving me off the wall.
Ended up getting Airpod Pro 2’s. Not an overear headphone, so they’re not as comfortable, but funnily enough I’ve found them replacing overears for me, both in nc and comfort.
The only real downside is that their mic sucks.
I have the Sony xm5 and they are a great balance of NC and sound. Probably personal preference, but I preferred them over the Bose equivalent.
That said, the microphone quality was significantly subpar.
Bose Quiet comfort ultras bar none. So comfortable, way more durable than the new Sony, best noice canceling tech out there.
I love my Bose QC35 II!
+1, I love mine. I have the last generation that had mini-USB and tbh it’s a little annoying because pretty much all my other gadgets are USB-C, but I just can’t justify getting a new pair because they hold up amazingly; after a full day/night of long haul travel they still have 70% battery life after years of (ab)use.
Exactly the same for me, I just can’t justify to purchase a new pair. However, how is your travel experience when on calls? I keep getting hints from the opposite side that my surrounding noises are loud - in trains, in open offices. Any suggestions? Or is that something where new generations could make sense? I‘ve already activated noise surpression on teams. Anyone any tips?
if you can find some new by some sort of miracle, Bose NC700. Hands down.
This is the right answer. Timeless design and great sound. I tested out about a dozen high end headphones and landed with them. Most comfortable to wear for extended period and by faaar the best microphone for taking work calls. You can also get the dongle for them to make Teams/Zoom calls seamless. I will say if you're into absurd amounts of bass or an audiophile the Sony's or the B&Ws may sound better to you.
They probably lag behind in terms of new features, don't forget the NC700s were released 6 years ago.
Still though, in terms of call quality when it comes to noisy environments, they have the best microphone out there.
Hi everyone! As mentioned in the title, I'm looking for a pair of headphones, either wired or wireless, with active noise cancellation for under $300 to use at work. My workspace is a lot of noise, so with regular headphones, I have to crank the volume up near max to block out the noise, which isn't good for my ears in the long run. But if I don't wear headphones, I can not being able to concentrate. What type are you using? Could you share experiences
Go for sony. They are best in noise cancelling performance.
Bose QC ultra are great
Bose QuietComfort
Great noise cancellation, and super comfortable for long sessions
Great noise cancellation
that's good cuz the max volume is a joke on those
Ya'll, they asked about headphones, not ear buds.
Noble Fokus Prestige
I cant focus due to many other admins talking in the office. So i'm now hunting a good quality pair of 'noise cancelling' headphones. I won't limit my budget so please feel free to lemme know any suggestions that you've been most satisfied with by far.
I would appreciate any recommendations.
Some of my co-workers use Sony WH1000XM5.
Myself being in the Apple ecosystem, I use Apple Airpods Max.
I like my Sonys, bought them specifically for data center noise cancellation so I can be on calls and actually hear people, my colleague has the same ones, they're great.
Jabra Evolve2 85. Noise Cancelling + mic arm for teams calls.
I have the 65 (not noise cancelling) but being able to use the dongle for my PC for Teams and simultaneously Bluetooth to my phone for music is fantastic
I also use the Jabra Evolve2 65 in the home office for calls. Lack of noise-cancelling is a feature for me because I still want to be able to ear what is going on around me.
For music at home I'm using a Soundcore Motion+.
The Evolve2 series are outstanding.
Now if you want to cancel ALL outside noise, maybe David Clark HBT40? I had a pair for datacenter work, paired to a cell phone. Couldn't hear anything from the equipment in the cage, just the phone conversation.
So we have a small office outside our data center and the ANC worked well enough accept for the few times we had multiple fans starting to spin up on the back of a UCS chassis. The fans were deadened but I could still hear them slightly, without the headphones, the sound was an instant headache.
seconding the bose quietcomfort over-ear. best headphones i’ve ever owned. forgotten to charge them for weeks and i’ve turned them on to a “battery 80%” announcement. fuckin love em.
great for weightlifting too, they’ve never slipped off/bounced annoyingly during cardio either.
Another vote for these, I wear them to the gym, music and people banging weights, you dont hear anything. Updating the firmware is a pain in the ass tho, takes too long and is really flakey. This is from a phone, I havnt tried from a pc
Not the best for constant use, but Apple Air Pods Pro 2. Battery runtime can be tight, but they charge fast. Adaptive and transparent modes for when you do need to hear what's around you.
Thirdlying the Bose. I have had the qc-35 since 2012 and they are still going strong.
I still have my good old WH1000XM3 and it works perfectly for that. It's a little worn out, I should change the foam, but it's still impecable sound wise.
I’m currently looking for the best noise-cancelling earbuds for working in the office.
To be clear, my top priority is blocking out surrounding noise, especially voices, typing, and general office sounds.
I don’t care about call quality or even sound quality for music — I just want to hear as little of the outside world as possible, even when I’m not playing anything.
Right now I’m looking at:
I’d love to hear from anyone who’s tested these in real office environments.
Which ones actually cancel out human voices the best? Most reviews focus on sound and calls, but that’s not what I need.
If you’ve found a pair that gives you that peaceful “silent bubble” feeling while working, I’m all ears!
I never used the ones you name. Sorry. Bose is AFAIK #1 in ANC, though, so I'd guess Bose>Huawei
Bose for nc
And which one exactly? Do they completely cancel out office noise?
bose quietcomfort ultra
Absolutely agree. I had a pair of Bose and it was almost creepy how everything just disappeared around me with the ANC activated.
I hated the sound and traded then in for a pair of Sony xm5s.
I'd say if the Bose are a 10 the Sony are a close 9.5.
@op why not just get earplugs if you're just looking to block out noise and don't care for the sound? Could save a lot of money with a pair of loopz or eargasms.
you should go with Bose Ultra or sony WF 1000xm5. Both are solid earbuds for NC and good options.
Huawei FreeBuds Pro 4, not bad, the noise reduction function is quite suitable, convenient and compact, you can consider the following
I have them, I bought them. But I don't think they cancel as much, and I want one with a better cancellation.
Okay, then Airpod pro 2
Bose QuietComfort. Ugly design imho, but work pretty well
How much better than the Huawei Pro 4? These are the ones I bought. I want to know if it's worth replacing them.
Hi All,
I’m going back to working in an office and looking for a really good pair of noise-cancelling headphones. Comfort is just as important to me as noise cancellation since I’ll be wearing them for long stretches at a time.
I’ve used the Sony WH-1000XM5 before and really liked the sound quality and ANC, but after a while they started to feel uncomfortable on my head and ears. That was the main drawback for me — everything else about them was great.
What I’d love to find is something with excellent noise cancelling (enough to drown out office chatter, keyboard noise, and HVAC hum), but with better long-term comfort. Ideally, they’d also have solid sound quality for both music and podcasts, good durability, and not get too hot after hours of wear. Bonus points if they’re easy to carry for commutes and decent for calls.
I don’t really have a strict budget, so I’m open to spending on a premium pair if it means I can get something that will keep me focused and comfortable throughout the day.
If anyone has found a pair that balances comfort and ANC really well, I’d love to hear your recommendations.
Apple AirPods Pro 2
ANC is pretty good as is the audio quality.
However noise isolation is not great. So invest in a set of Comply ( a brand) foam tips.
You’ll thank me later.
Pro 3's are rumoured to be releasing next week with the iPhones
Yeah I heard that too, be interesting to see how much and what features they will have I bought the Pro 2’s on sale on Amazon about 6 weeks ago for €199 and I have to admit they are excellent, noise canceling, decent volume, bass etc.
second this, they’re fantastic
Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones are great for me. They're a bit on the pricey side but I've had mine for a few years now and no complaints
I've been using mine for about 5 yrs and I love them! Grey for the office and flights.
And you can change the ear pads. I won’t get on an airplane without them
Over priced and they fall apart. Very good quality sound and very comfortable though
Those Sony ones you tried are the only ones that work for me.
I did have ear buds wf-1000xm4 that are in ear for awhile. You could try them but I think the overear ones are comfier.
It's tough isn't it 😔
XM4's.
I have these Sony ones and find them great. My office is not exceptionally noisy and there's no HVAC so I can't tell you how well they'd hold up in that environment but there's loads of YouTube reviews so I'm sure it's been tested.
Battery life is good and they'll fit in your pocket.
I've finally got a digital nomad job and I need headphones that cancels noise and has good quality sound/mic. Do you have any recommendations? Which options out there are you happy with?
TIA!!
I have the Bose QuietComfort and they're pretty solid. Had the same pair for nearly a decade now. I hear good things about the Sony XM6 too
AirPod Pro 2
Mmm.. idk. I have one of those and I prefer my cheap Soundcore life dot 2’s over the AirPod pro’s. Granted I am one of those people who find AirPods uncomfortable so the seal is not the best in my left ear. I would recommend the Soundcore’s but they are discontinued unfortunately…
For my work setup I use Philips SHP9500 + a V-MODA BoomPro microphone. This combo cancels out ambient noise as heard by other participants on a call but I can still hear everything. If your goal is to optimize for the quality of your audio during calls, this is it. If your goal is to not hear what’s happening around you, this is not it.
That being said when I speak with coworkers who use AirPod pro 2’s, those definitely provide a great albeit flat audio.
Bose in my opinion. They were the OG creators of noise cancelling headphones for pilots and the tech is very good. They sound the best to others on calls I find.
That said, if you are an Apple user, the AirPods and headphones are hard to beat and have the best noise cancelling in my opinion.
Do you mean Bose QuietComfort?
I've had these for years and I couldn't agree more. I bought the first version years ago.
Probably Bose quiet comfort
Sony XM6
Unless you hate touch controls. I loved the XM series until I tried Bose QC-45 and realized how much I prefer physical buttons.
Best Noise Canceling Headphones for Work
Key Considerations for Noise Canceling Headphones:
Active Noise Cancellation (ANC): Look for headphones with effective ANC technology to block out background noise, which is crucial for maintaining focus in a work environment.
Comfort and Fit: Choose headphones that are comfortable for long wear, with padded ear cups and an adjustable headband. Over-ear designs often provide better noise isolation.
Battery Life: Aim for headphones with a long battery life (20+ hours with ANC on) to avoid frequent charging during work hours.
Sound Quality: Ensure the headphones deliver clear audio with good bass response, especially if you listen to music or participate in calls.
Microphone Quality: If you take calls frequently, look for headphones with a high-quality microphone and noise reduction features for clearer communication.
Connectivity: Consider whether you prefer wired or wireless options. Wireless headphones should have a stable Bluetooth connection and low latency.
Recommendations:
Sony WH-1000XM5: These are often regarded as the best overall noise-canceling headphones. They offer excellent ANC, superb sound quality, and up to 30 hours of battery life. They are also very comfortable for extended use.
Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700: Known for their outstanding noise cancellation and comfort, these headphones also feature a great microphone system for calls, making them ideal for work settings.
Apple AirPods Max: If you’re in the Apple ecosystem, these provide excellent sound quality and effective ANC, along with seamless integration with Apple devices. However, they come at a premium price.
Sennheiser PXC 550-II: A more budget-friendly option that still offers good ANC, sound quality, and comfort, making them suitable for work.
Choosing the right headphones will depend on your specific needs, such as whether you prioritize sound quality, comfort, or battery life.
