Let's build a list of the best anime by genre. So which anime do you all think is the best action anime?
Rules:
Dragonball
I feel like this is the only correct answer in terms of action especially with how absurd and brutal some of the fights got especially in DBZ
Dragon Ball has earned it's reputation.
Adventure should be One Piece
Attack on Titan
Though I agree, AOT is so much more than action.
If it was "best action in anime" I might have agree with you. But this is best action anime and for this, story and characters in AoT are completely unworthy of the title
Story and characters are what make AoT so masterful
More sos story, not action
Bleach
Its far more thriller than adventure
Jujutsu kaisen
My List
Honourable Mention The Seven Deadly Sins
What Is Your Guys Favourite Action Anime ?
World Trigger
Because I love tactics.
I love it despite the fact that I hate first person shooter games. It's a battle shounen.
Bleach is my favorite anime of all time so probably that
A certain scientific Railgun
Black Lagoon, it has a really good English dub as well.
the god of highshool is the best action anime, not AOT not JJk not even chainsawman
Since I finished MHA season 3, I have been having trouble finding some action animes. I tried watching the original Naruto series, but I got bored after season 1. I finished super. What are some good action animes on Crunchyroll?
If you can get through the slow beginning of black clover, it’s all action all the time.
Fairy tail also has some pretty good action and dragon ball z is THE fighting anime
I fucking love black clover! I was watching the dub, but I stop watching it for a bit. Since vrv and Funimation is parting ways, I'm going to rewatch the sub.
Be warned that asta’s constant yelling is pretty rough in the beginning when subbed but he chills out as time goes on and all
Don't watch Fairy Tail.
Read the manga if you really want to, but it's a crappy shounen.
Black Clover improves a lot over the course of the show/manga.
Hunter x Hunter, Mob Psycho 100, Kill la Kill, SSSS Grindan, and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure would be some of my picks
I'm watching golden wind right now waiting for the new episode, I really love the series.
Fate/Zero and Fate/Stay Night: UBW. Both have some hype ass fights.
I second this. There are some sexy ass fights in fate. I enjoy fate/zero a lot.
Attack on Titan
Hunter x Hunter, you will not regret it
I hardcore study 24/7 so I like to detox and smoke / watch anime with a lot of action/violence and a bad ass main character. Some romance would be preferable but no teases. Need it to make me want to procrastinate 😂
Regarding gory/violence, I’m in my lab majority of my days so the more gore the better, Invincible is the perfect example. Other shows I can think of that I’ve seen like this are blade of the immortal, black lagoon, afro samurai, dororo, 86, undead unluck, AOT, tokyo ghoul, elfen leid, deadman wonderland, etc. Edo period is typically my favorite but it’s tough to find shows I haven’t seen, and with a somewhat decent romance and “cool character”.
I’ve seen pretty much everything mainstream honestly. Think MAL is at 300+ now. I’m currently out of shows to watch so I’d appreciate any recommendations! Thank you!
Check out {Baccano!}, its about 1930s immortal gangsters. The plot a bit confusing at first, but once you realize it is telling the story from 3 different points in time and jumping between them, it makes a lot more sense.
Plenty of violence and one of my favorite OPs
Baccano is easily one of the most violent and bloody anime I’ve ever seen lmao I wish I knew where I could watch it again
Sounds cool, I’ll check it out! Thanks
Angel Cop Good ol early 90s gory shit before anime got soft.
Black lagoon is my go to.
Fist of the North Star I think it's been real late on sci-fi channel
Dark Gathering
Currently still watching Windbreaker (love the fighting animations), eminence in shadow, and JJK. Eminence in shadow and JJK haven’t struck me enough to keep watching but they have high respect so I’m holding on.
I really LOVED demon slayer and solo leveling. Kaiju #8 caught my attention even with all the comedy. Blue lock was just PEAK.
Nothing will ever top AOT tho in my opinion. From the animation, to the intricate storyline, just a masterpiece!
Please give me good recs! Thank you in advance!
If you liked Death note and AOT, you'll love Code geass, as AOT got really inspired by Code geass for making it's show (no hatinf I love both, but it's true hahaha) and Light and Lelouch (code geass 's mc) have some things in common. It's one of the best series out there, I hope you'll like it :D
Kinda suprised no one ahas said this but Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood would probably be a good fit for your taste based off of those. It's also not as lon as something like Naruto or HxH so you can watch it pretty quickly.
Akame ga kill
Initial D (on youtube stages/seasons 1-4)
Hell’s paradise
Plunderer
Shangri la frontier
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood for sure
HxH.
Ya he should def add this one to his list. One of the greats for sure. I’d honestly way rather re watch it than Naruto again.
Looking for things with really cool and intense fights with great art style and interesting story. I’ve seen one punch man fate/ unlimited blade works, AOT, MHA, FMA and all that and they had great fight scenes. So any recommendations will help.
Mob psycho 100
Hunter X Hunter
Demon Slayer
Gurren Lagann
Mob psycho was my next choice. Will give these a go, thanks man
Fate/ heaven's feel if you finished unlimited blade works, then fate/zero afterwards.
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Fairy tail Is a great anime I highly suggest it
Black Clover
So I've been watching King-Ohger and while I love the story and characters, dang that action is kinda poor. Flashy effects and not much substance. Then I switch over to Kamen Rider Gavv and the fights look so good. So I wanted to get y'all's thoughts, what are the shows with the best action? (Shout out to anything Kiyotaka Taguchi has worked on, his Ultraman stuff is second to none for action)
From the top of my head, for sentai I'd say Shinkenger, Go-busters, Kyoryuger, Lupinranger Vs Patranger and Ryusoulger are all a blast in the action department.
I haven't watched that many Kamenr Rider shows, but I like the action in Kuuga,. Agito, W and Drive (not the only ones I've watched, but again, from the top of my head). Very distinc styles, but they all are really good.
Also Garo is just the coolest in the fighting coreography and overall action direction department.
PS: Damn, King-ohger is indeed lackluster in that area.
Thanks for the recs!
(and yeah, I love the everything else in King-Ohger but the kid in me who grew up with martial arts films is just kinda depressed when they do the same slashing motion with the same effect every episode)
>Thanks for the recs!
=) Hope you like some of those!
>...but the kid in me who grew up with martial arts films is just kinda depressed when they do the same slashing motion with the same effect every episode)
Exactly! I feel the same! The kid toku fan in me need that cool fighting choreography and classic toku feel. Those slo-mo slashing moves are just boring. And, like, I know they were experimenting with something new, but after decades of experience with toku action, that's what they came up with for such a grand show? Definitely a disappointment.
Since you brought up martial arts, have you seen Gekiranger or Dairanger?
Garo
I love Garo. Need to finish Red Requiem and move on to the second season.
Geats iirc has the same action director as Gavv, the choreography there is top tier as well
Blazar and Arc also have some great choreo on the Ultraman side of things
for Sentai, Gozyuger and Boonboomger have some amazing choreo as well
If you like Gavv action check out Geats. Zero-One was also slick but not as much as those two. Gozyuger and Lupat on Sentai side are up there for me too.
I have loved the few fights I've seen from Gozyuger. I'll give the rest a shot too
Im surprised nobody has said Go-Busters yet
I seriously need to check Go-Busters, heard great things.
Funnily enough i was actually bored so i rewatched the first 4 episodes today and was unimpressed compared to when i was younger, the show definitely picks up though and carries some deep themes, it just suffered from tonal shifting due to bad reviews about the dark and serious tone they initially went with while it was airing.
I’ve watched my hero, Attack on Titan, Sword art online, and one punch... any suggestions?
Hunterxhunter, a certain magical index, Akame ga kill, Angel Beats, Arifureta, Btooom! , Darwin's Game, Deadman Wonderland, Demon Slayer, Fire force, Freezing, Full Metal Alchemist, Gate, Goblin Slayer, Guilty Crown, High School of dead, Future Diary, kings game, Lord Marksman and Vanadis, Magi, Mob Psycho 100, Noragami, Overlord, Parasyte -the maxim-, Tokyo Ghoul, The rising of the shield hero, fairy tail.
Have fun
Blue Gender, Yu Yu Hakusho, and S-Cry-Ed
suspicious that you only suggested old anime
Not really, I am old lol and to fair they might be old, but other then maybe S-Cry-Ed they hold up pretty well even against today anime
Black clover, naruto, bleach, one piece, fire force, seven deadly sins, rakudai kishi no calvary those are of the top of my head
thanks broski
Hunter x Hunter 2011
Symphogear
I’m really into action and fighting and shooting and sword fighting and all that kinda stuff. Stuff from the 90s and 2000s are kinda dull to me, tho there still are some greats. I’m just tryna watch some of the newer stuff for now.
I’ve see dorohedoro, solo leveling, and wind breaker which were all greats.
I also don’t really want see the characters hold back in any way, or have some kind of code against killing or harming.
Kaiju nr 8 and Dandadan are great action anime from last year, both of which are getting a second season very soon
Fair warning, Dandandan is extremely disturbing, and heavy on pointless SA content, and the fanbase is infamous for judging people and not respecting boundaries, and downplaying how disturbing it is.
Dawg… it’s just a show. That’s like saying Endgame was disturbing because thanos killed half the universe
Demonslayer. Id argue my hero academia fits this as well. Idk if those count as last 5 years(I think their earliest seasons were like 2010s).
Does it have to be high stakes?
Shangri-la Frontier has some really good animated action/fight scenes. It focuses more on the aspect that its a VR game, not a life or death scenario like SAO or the other action VR animes.
Do yourself a favor. Watch Castlevania. Thank me later.
The 2017 one?
Yeah. Although I love the sequel series Nocturne just as much.
That’s the vampire one right?
Yeah but trust me buddy, it's so much more than just mindless vampire action.
Nocturne basically became a Street Fighter story mode towards the end and I loved it
I consider Jujutsu Kaisen to be the golden standard for modern action anime
My friend got me into anime a few months ago by telling me to watch hunter x hunter I havnt watched that many animes other then that but the ones I have watched are Naruto, one punch man, and hunter x hunter
Bleach (the beginning is not good but I promise you it gets interesting)
Berserker
Claymore
Attack on Titan
Dragonball Z Kai (it would be good to watch Dragonball as well - first)
Saint Seiya
Log Horizon
Tower of God
Dragon Quest Dai no Daibouken (2020 version)
One Piece (I don't like this one but everyone else loves it)
Pokémon
My Hero Academia
Shenmue The Animation
Demon Slayer
Kenichi The Mightiest Disciple
Goblin Slayer
Jujutsu Kaisen
Inuyasha
The Rising of the Shield Hero
Mob Psycho 100
Overlord
Noblesse (first, The Awakening, then the normal one)
Black Clover
Yu Yu Hakusho
Dr. Stone
Tokyo Ghoul (another one I don't like but people seems to like it)
Macross (the "continuation" Robotech is not good, though)
Kingdom
The Irregular at Magic School
>Bleach (the beginning is not good but I promise you it gets better)
What are you talking about, the first arc of bleach is the best arc of the entire anime
I didn't mean that.
I mean that it's kind of painful to wait for Rukia to give him her power, than to be I troduced to Chad, Innoue and to the Quincy dude which name I forgot.
I do agree that everything starts to get interesting with the "duel" about who kill more grand hollows.
Kill la Kill is good
Demon Slayer
Fate/Zero
Log Horizon slaps lowkey
