What Redditors are Saying

Best Affordable Hotels in Singapore

TL;DR

  • YOTEL Singapore Orchard Road: around US$150/night [5:2]
  • V Hotel Lavender: convenient location, 300 to 400 USD for a stay [5:3]
  • Holiday Inn Singapore Orchard City Centre: upscale value [5:1]

Budget-Friendly Options

For travelers seeking affordable accommodations, several options have been recommended. The Ibis Budget hotels are mentioned as budget-friendly choices [2:2], with locations such as Geylang, Bugis, and Paya Lebar offering relatively cheaper rates due to their proximity to red districts [4:1]. Hotel 81 is another option, although it has a reputation akin to motels among locals [4:2].

Mid-Range Hotels

YOTEL Singapore Orchard Road is a popular choice for its central location and reasonable pricing at around US$150 per night [5:2]. V Hotel Lavender offers convenience with an MRT station right below, making it easy to access various parts of the city. Prices range from 300 to 400 USD depending on booking dates [5:3].

Upscale Value

Holiday Inn Singapore Orchard City Centre provides an upscale experience at a value price in Asia [5:1]. Another Holiday Inn location in Clarke Quay offers clean rooms and a rooftop pool, with close proximity to public transport and dining options [5:4].

Location Considerations

When choosing a hotel, consider the area you wish to stay in. Orchard Road is a prime shopping district, while areas like Clarke Quay offer vibrant nightlife and dining options [5:4]. Staying near MRT stations can greatly enhance your travel experience due to Singapore's efficient public transportation system [4:2].

Additional Recommendations

For those willing to stretch their budget, upscale hotels like JW Marriott provide a luxurious stay [5:9]. Airbnb might also be worth exploring for unique accommodation experiences [5:12].

ORIGINAL POST

Hi! I’d like to ask if anyone can suggest a decent or nice place to stay in Singapore considering also that it’s affordable? I’m planning to visit for leisure in May.

Thank you!

EDIT: Better to ask if there are any travel requirements as well.

Where are you from?

As to whether it's a good hotel, it's subjective to your taste but, as to the location, it's near bugis and farrer park mrt which is a good area as its in town and close to Mustafa centre which is a 24hour departmental store with a money changer and groceries and relatively better deals than else where. If you do spend more than SGD100, you can get a tax rebate but you have to have your passport with you. You can buy souvenirs there too. Police presence in the area is quite high as well.

You should also be able to explore town center with just a single bus ride and/or Mrt(subway/metro). You should be able to use your bank card which has visa or Mastercard, to board the public transport system thats linked to the airport, so don't worry about buying an ezlink card. If you do need a sim card, try to purchase it outside of the airport as the ones there are expensive.

Cost effective options for food can be found at hawker centres. These places are open air food courts that serve a wide variety of cuisines and one of the cheapest options for food available. Do note that most if not all of them only accept cash.

Don't worry about hygiene as these stalls a regulated by the government for cleanliness but of course don't take that for granted. Tap water is safe to drink and most residents in singapore drink the water straight out of the faucet.

If you do have any issues, don't be afraid to ask us locals as we are more than happy to help. We may seem nonchalant or aloof but some of us are more reserved, yet still more than happy to help.

PS, you can dm me for any other queries and I will try my best to help you out as much as possible.

Hotel Suggestions for First-Time Visitor

Posted by jliu_99 · in r/askSingapore · 6 months ago

I'm a solo traveller visiting Singapore for the first time in early June for 5 days. My budget is ~250 SGD/night (flexible) and was hoping to get some suggestions on hotels in more central areas. I'm perfectly fine with walking/biking around if a hotel is not super close to an MRT station.

After looking through previous posts, it seems like people have had great experiences with The Warehouse Hotel. It's out of my budget cash-wise (over 400 SGD/night), but it's more reasonable with Marriott Bonvoy points. If anyone has stayed there and can chime in on their experience, I'd appreciate that. Thanks in advance!

Honestly, sg is so small and their public transpo is one of the best. it is so interconnected you really cant go wrong as long as there is a nearby mrt or bus stop to your hotel, commuting wont be a problem. Ibis hotels are budget friendly. Hotel 81 hotels are cheap but amongst the local, parang “motel” ang reputation nya.

1 upvotes on reddit
healthyrecluse · 3 months ago

Una sa lahat, decide na agad whether you want to go with the 15k or the 35k. Ang dami dami kasing hotels kaya narrow it down. So anyway, usually we stay at Robertson Quay or Studio M kasi I like staying at clarke quay, so I would recommend to check those out. V Hotel Lavender I hear is also good. For even cheaper options, yung mga Hotel 81 daw. Sayang at nag close na yung favorite budget hotel namin dati, 5 foot way inn in clarke quay, but the one in chinatown is still open yata.

Hanap kayo ibis hotels if you're in a budget. I can see hotels ranging from 3-5k per night for ibis properties.

Look for hotels along or near Joo Chiat Road sa Geylang. Madaming makakainan na walking distance. Malapit sa Paya Lebar MRT station and bus stops pa-airport and papuntang downtown.

Mura relatively hotels dyan dahil red district pero hindi naman cheap looking. Maganda pa din.

Any tips in choosing a good hotel in Singapore?

Posted by Return_Equivalent · in r/travel · 2 years ago

My so and I are planning to go on an adventure sometime this year. We decided Singapore would be a good start. I have been to Singapore for more than a few times but it was beacause my parents work there. When we visit, we stay at the flat that they are renting. This will be her first time visiting Singapore and I wanted to make it feel really special so I didn’t want to cheap out on the hotel. Because I feel that where you stay is a big part of the experience. For the guys who recently been to Singapore, do you have any advice on where to stay? I don’t wanna splurge all my budget so that we can stay in a luxury hotel.

I think you could check out YOTEL Singapore Orchard Road. It's a 4-star hotel located in Orchard Road, as the name suggests, and costs around US$150/night. I brought around some guests from the US back in 2019, and they loved the hotel for its location (situated right smack in the main shopping district and near Orchard metro) and cleanliness.

Your price range, to be honest, is at minimum. If you want a nicer hotel, you'll have to bump up your budget a bit more, and you will want a nice room to put up your feet after walking the whole day.

V Hotel Lavender is the last one I stayed in. I've stayed there twice. I prefer it because the MRT station is right below and a lot of food stuff is accessible. It's about 300 to 400 USD depending on when you will book. But this just my preference. 🙂

First, decide on area…

Although Holiday Inns in NA are a joke, they are upscale-value in Asia. Check out Holiday Inn Singapore Orchard City Centre. I have stayed there - great hotel, good location.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Clarke Quay this summer and really liked it. We chose a room on the cheaper side so it was small but perfectly clean with really nice new furniture. The bath was also spotless and very new. They have a rooftop pool which was a huge plus. Also, the location wad great. Public transport was pretty close, the Singapore River area with restaurants and bars was a 5-minute walk, and I also walked to the center with the National Gallery once. Look for the free English-speaking tours at the National Gallery and the Museum of Asian Civilization (you need to buy a a ticket ofc). I got so much more out of my visits than I would have without the guides.

What’s the best area to stay in Singapore for a bit of everything? (Helping my friend plan a balanced trip)

Posted by JustHereInSG · in r/SingaporeTravel · 1 month ago

Hey all - I’m helping a close friend plan her first trip to Singapore and we’re trying to figure out the best neighbourhood to stay in that offers a good all-round experience. She’s not the type to splurge on a luxury hotel, but wants to be somewhere central and safe, with a mix of local vibes and convenience. So far, we’re trying to find a place that checks these boxes:

  • Great food options - hawker centres, casual eats, and maybe a nice cafe or two
  • Walkable - something that feels like you’re really in the city and not just stuck in a hotel district
  • Easy MRT access - she plans to explore from morning till late, so connectivity is key
  • Some evening atmosphere - maybe bars, night markets, or just somewhere that doesn’t shut down early
  • Mid-range accommodation - think boutique hotels or clean, comfy Airbnbs. Not hostels, but also not Marina Bay Sands-level

We’ve been eyeing Chinatown, Bugis, Orchard, Little India, and even Tiong Bahru (though that one’s a bit less central). Each has pros and cons, but it’s hard to tell from Google alone. If you're a local or someone who’s travelled here recently, what’s your pick for the best base location in Singapore - especially for a first-timer who wants a mix of everything without bouncing between hotels? Open to hotel recs too if you have them! Thanks in advance

i feel like chinatown would be a great idea!

- tons of cafes and bars around, TONSSSS!!

- hawkers: maxwell, honglim market, PPP food centre, amoy street food centre etc

- chinatown mrt connects blue and purple line, and walkable to outram (green & brown line), super easy to get around!

- pretty sure chinatown has budget to high end hotel options ;)

recomm bugis
Excellent Food Scene: From Golden Mile Food Centre to Haji Lane cafes and nearby Arab Street eats. A balance of local and hipster.

Walkable & Vibrant: Feels alive with colorful shophouses, street art, indie boutiques, and night buzz.

MRT Access: Bugis is on the Downtown (Blue) and East West (Green) lines, making it a fantastic launchpad.

Nightlife Light: Haji Lane has cool bars and live music spots that stay open late, but it’s not rowdy.

Accommodations: Plenty of boutique hotels like:

Hotel G Singapore (stylish, compact rooms)

Andaz Singapore (higher end but walkable nearby for rooftop bars)

Hotel NuVe Heritage (quirky boutique vibes)

Heritage Collection on Arab (serviced apartments with privacy)

Number one for me is Bugis and area around Arab St is lively,  Haji/Bali Lane is usually very busy till late.  Its Only a short stroll to Raffles and The Atlas Bar and the courtyard full of art installations outside is a highlight.

Chinatown or Bugis would be great options. I would prefer Bugis myself, because there should be more accomodation options compared to Chinatown especially if you're not too tight on budget.

If first time visit to Singapore, highly recommendable to stay at city Center like in Boat Quay and Clarke Quay.

We booked at a hotel in Boat Quay to be near to tourist attractions like the Merlion. But a stay at Clarke Quay is ideal because it is nearer an MRT Station- Clarke Quay Mall specifically.

check agoda and filter your preferences..you can also check trip and booking but i still prefer agoda..

some of the hotels I searched before which I think will suit you are hotel bencoolen and oasia novena..the hotels and rooms look good and there's nearby mrt station (for oasia, you can go via basement of the hotel if im not mistaken)..there's also pool..

some near bugis such as hotel calmo (no pool i believe), you can check it out..

if you are not particular with shared bathrooms, noisy neighborhood and just really after nearby mrt stations, i believe you still can find good and cheaper ones..

enjoy singapore! :)

You're expecting a hotel near a MRT station (that is presumably a convenient MRT station to begin with) and a pool, for a last minute booking, during the Christmas holidays, for SGD200-250/night?

Tough in Singapore. Why do you even want a pool for a 2 night stay?

Housed in a circa-1895 building on the banks of the Singapore River, this upscale hotel is a 14-minute walk from the nearest metro station, 4 km from the waterfront greenhouses at Gardens by the Bay, and 2 km from the bars and restaurants of Clarke Quay.

Chic rooms have minibars, free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs. Upgraded rooms add windows and/or river views; some are bi-level and/or retain original architectural features. A suite adds a living area.

Amenities include a sophisticated restaurant and a lobby bar.

Look up the hotels in Balestier, hopefully there are a few that would meet your budget. This one for example costs about $60-70 per night iirc, and the condition of room (bed, showers, AC) is pretty decent for the price.

Also, this area is about a 10-minute bus ride away from TPY. You can take either bus 145 or 139. Hope that’s considered alright for you. Have a good time in SG :)

best affordable hotel in singapore

Key Considerations for Affordable Hotels in Singapore:

  1. Location: Choose a hotel near public transport (MRT stations) to easily access attractions. Areas like Little India, Chinatown, and Bugis offer affordable options with good connectivity.

  2. Amenities: Look for hotels that provide essential amenities like free Wi-Fi, breakfast, and air conditioning, which can enhance your stay without additional costs.

  3. Reviews and Ratings: Check online reviews on platforms like TripAdvisor or Booking.com to gauge the quality of service and cleanliness.

  4. Room Size: Be aware that hotel rooms in Singapore can be smaller than in other countries. Look for options that maximize space and comfort.

  5. Promotions and Discounts: Keep an eye out for special deals or discounts on hotel booking websites, especially during off-peak seasons.

Recommendations:

  • Hotel G Singapore: A trendy hotel located near Orchard Road, offering modern rooms at reasonable rates. It has a vibrant atmosphere and is close to shopping and dining options.

  • Ibis Budget Singapore Joo Chiat: This hotel provides clean and comfortable rooms at a budget-friendly price. It's located in a culturally rich area with local eateries.

  • Capsule Pod Boutique Hostel: If you're open to a hostel experience, this capsule hotel offers a unique stay with privacy at an affordable rate. It's located in the Chinatown area.

  • Hotel 81: A budget hotel chain with multiple locations across Singapore. It's known for its affordability and basic amenities, making it a practical choice for travelers.

By considering these factors and options, you can find a comfortable and affordable place to stay in Singapore!
