I've tried BLUEAIR purifiers, they are the worst, do not buy!

I own both a Coway and Blueair 311.

The Coway is in my living room and the Blueair is in my kids' nursery.

Between the two I prefer the Blueair. It is easier to maintain, looks better aesthetically, and I've been a bit turned off by the fact that the Coway is a bit of a pain in the ass to really clean (besides just replacing filters).

I have blue air 211s they’re solid and going strong 4 years in now.

I buy the filters directly from Blue Air.

They look nice too and you can buy different color pre filters if that’s something youre worried about.

Be careful with the grey prefilter bc it’s almost impossible to tell if dust has accumulated

Very quiet in my opinion but I tend to like white noise but I don’t notice them at all

I have the Coway for several years (3 or 4 years I think) now. Works great. But does get loud when i shifts to higher speeds. I have two one downstairs which is usually on auto during the day. And one upstairs which is on auto during the night. My partner has hayfever and most of the time it works very well.

I would buy one again if needed but i would also look into building one myself(just for fun).

Easy to clean and replace the filters. Haven't had any problems yet.

But if you into smart home things. These things don't have any way to make it smart or anything. Just turn it on/off, timers and auto/speed. I think that's a good thing but some people like ro have that option. A friend returned it because of it wasn't smart. He wanted an app or be able to work with smart hub. Not sure why he didn't check that before buying one....

I also have a BA 211. It works well and helps considerably with car hair.

Just buy a CR box kit. It’s the cheapest, quietest, most effective, and most BIFL option. No proprietary filters; no gimmicky electronics to break. If you don’t like this kit, just google “cr box instructions” and find the one that works for you.

Also, for better google recommendations, put “Reddit” in with your search terms to find the dozens of posts on this topic.

I'm another ditto on this model. My household has two asthmatics, up to four cats, and this purifier has held up to hard use for many years.

I keep one in the master bedroom and one in the living room (small two-storey house). They run 24 hours per day, and the white noise they make is miniscule to me. The outer filter fabric catches visible hoards of cat hair and is laundered weekly. The inner filter is replaced whenever indicated, appropriately every six months.

Would recommend.

The best air purifier is the one you can afford multiples of. Air doesn’t move well through doorways or around corners, so you need a separate purifier in every room/area of your home (except the bathroom and halls unless you spend a lot of time there).

People rag on Levoit because they are inexpensive, but they are also efficient and quiet. Because they are cheap, it’s easier to afford multiple units. They work very well.

The most important factor though is not brand so much as getting a purifier that is appropriate for your room. Most people buy purifiers that are undersized for their space.

Not Dyson or Shark. Complete junk.

Coway, Winix, or Levoit are all great brands.

IQAir HealthPro Plus.

Used in medical clinics during Covid. Excellent performers but expensive, filters are pricey.

Overall, Id say the Coway airmega is the best, but Blueair has some great models if you're looking to spend less

I recommend going with this Coway. I still have mine that I bought 4 years ago and it's still working great. It uses a true hepa filter.

I have the winix for pets and it has been running on turbo in our bedroom for 7ish years and it's still going strong.

Size of room and your budget would be helpful.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: Levoit 💯

The Levoit Core Mini has done wonders for me. Perfect for rooms or small spaces. I bought it a year ago, some time before I started collecting. I have really bad dust allergies and my room is in the least circulated part of the house so dust was an out of control nightmare. After I bought this the purifier does the heavy lifting and I usually only have to dust twice a month. Filters are about $20-$25 and I only had to replace them twice during the year. If your place doesn't have issues with air circulation than the purifier will likely be even more effective. I plan to buy more for other parts of the house.

Winix 5500, moves lots of air at low noise. Pellet Carbon filter and hepa isn’t needed for just “dust”, but it’s still a good choice.

So I did research on this subject (edit: last) year and it is quite the rabbit hole. I'm going to try to distill it down to a few considerations:

• The number 1 way to fight household dust is a quality air filter. There are like dozens upon dozens of YT videos but this one has guided my purchase decisions. Keep in mind that quality home filters aren't cheap, so you will have to go with what you think best fits your housing situation and your current budget.
• Besides that, you have already been introduced to air purifiers. They are not the end all be all of dust collection in a room, but its important to know which one would best fit the rooms that will have them. If you don't want to have 10-20 bookmarks on various databases and review sites, just check out NYT's Wirecutter section periodically for the latest and greatest models.
  • Avoid any models with forced ionization (specifically Blueair). To keep it short, ionization will mess with your local ozone level and may mess with your health in the process. Models with ionization modes that can be turned off are good to use. (Blueair models can have their ion modes deactivated manually, but it basically requires disassembling a pricey device. There are enough quality models on the market now to make the hassle of owning a Blueair unnecessary.)
  • You should educate yourself on the following terminology:
    • CADR - clean air delivery rate
    • CFM - cubic feet per minute; CFM provides insight into the efficiency of air purifiers, namely how many cubic feet per minute an air purifier can clean and scrub
  • There are other terms like VOCs, activated carbon, etc. but you established that you are only interested in fighting dust so its all irrelevant at the moment
  • Once you settle on a few air purifier models (that have hopefully been sighted on sale recently on Slickdeals), check for how much official replacement filters cost for each model at Amazon or your favorite e-commerce site and then factor the cost for replacements into your buying decision
  • Also keep in mind that the best recommended setting (per r/AirPurifiers) is the highest setting available. The next best setting is the one you can live with, because these things can be very noisy.
• Lastly, buy an electric handheld duster or stock up on duster cans. Technology is not at the level where all dust can be captured, and you will have to do manual cleaning eventually.

This thing has been a literal game changer for me. My room used to be so dusty it was insane (I live in the desert). I pretty much do a light dusting with a microfiber rag once a month now. I still air can my figures at that point as well but I feel like it’s more for just peace of mind because there is literally no visible dust on them when I do. This is in a bedroom though so your mileage may vary if your displays are in a larger room. I also basically don’t have allergy problems anymore. They have 3 different types of official filters but I just use the basic type.
