TL;DR Armor in Elden Ring is mostly about aesthetics and defense, with few pieces offering minor stat boosts. Choose armor that fits your style and doesn't cause a fat roll.
Aesthetic Choices
For faith builds, many players prioritize the aesthetic of their character over specific armor benefits. Sets like the Crucible Axe chest piece paired with the Great Helm offer a holy warrior or crusader vibe [1:1]. The Godskin Apostle armor is another popular choice due to its striking appearance, although obtaining it can be challenging
[1:5]. Other suggestions include the Nights Cavalry Set and Blackflame Monk set, which provide a unique look while maintaining a dark theme
[2:4]
[2:6].
Stat Boosting Armor
While most armor does not significantly impact stats, there are exceptions. Helmets from the Halig Tree sets provide small faith buffs [2:1]. The Imp Head also boosts faith, though it may not be visually appealing
[2:5]. Additionally, some chest pieces offer faith increases
[2:2], but these boosts are generally minor and should not heavily influence your armor choice.
Defense and Poise Considerations
For those focusing on defense, heavier armor sets like the Bull Goat armor can provide substantial poise, allowing you to tank hits during combat [1:4]. However, this requires higher endurance to avoid fat rolling
[1:6]. Medium armor sets with good magic resistance can be found in areas like Raya Lucaria and Stormveil Castle
[4:4]. These sets strike a balance between protection and mobility, making them suitable for faith builds that rely on incantations.
Fashion Souls
Ultimately, many players agree that Elden Ring is a "fashion game," where the visual appeal of your armor is as important as its stats [4:8]. Finding armor that complements your character's style and theme can enhance your gaming experience, regardless of its defensive capabilities
[5:1].
Been scouring this sub and online to try to find some better options for armor for a faith build but really haven’t come up with much. I’m a confessor around level 160 and I’m still rocking the original confessor armor. Anything I find that seems somewhat comparable or better is either too heavy and makes me fat roll or still doesn’t have overwhelmingly better stats. Anyone find some good armor sets that work well with a faith build with low-ish endurance (my equip load is only around 65) ?
I’m rocking the Juno Hoslow armor set, also confessor lvl 152. Honestly though, armor is pretty much for aesthetics unless you’re rocking heavy armor for poise. But since we’re not often just standing and swinging as a confessor, just rock whatever you think looks the coolest. And if everything is making you fat roll it’s time to put some points into endurance
Haha that’s a good point about poise and stuff not mattering quite as much. I’m currently trying to get the godskin apostle armor cause I think that set looks awesome but that boss is a tough one. Yeah I’m slowly pumping a few points into endurance just in case lol. Thanks for the feedback 👍🏻
Yeah I've been using the bull goat armor on my faith warrior wielding dual faith halberds (tree sentinel and gargoyle halberds) and got the poise boosting physick. Weaker bosses I can just swing wildly and sometimes kill them before even needing to heal
Yeah Godskin Apostle was tough, not sure what your loadout is but at 160 you should be alright against him. You could also try summoning in coop players to help
Have a look at fightingcowboy on YouTube he has a 30 minute faith build video that is very cool looking armor. It involves altering a set which has a cloak, when it's removed it has a really clean golden armor.
Awesome, I’ll check it out. Thanks 🙌🏻
I’d pump up my equip load and wear something hefty like crucible knight set
Multiple talismans can raise your equip load significantly but at 160 I think you could afford moving some points to endurance without sacrificing too much.
Good call - I think I’m at the point with some Of my main attributes where it’s diminishing returns anyways so I’ll be pumping up my equip load so that I can wear some more hefty sets without sacrificing my my agility during fights
Happy days! Hope it works out
If it helps, I’ve found very few weapons that scale consistently after 70 in their main scaling stat. (A handful of boss weapons are the exception) So if you’re a pure of some kind, id say 70 is a good place to stop the main attribute at if you’re looking to PUMP your numbers
Whatever looks cool
For my faith build I've been rocking the crucible axe chest piece. It's looks really nice for a holy warrior imo. Not terribly heavy but I am using the jar talisman
Edit: also been using the great helm with it, has a bit of a crusader vibe
Hi, got this game a few days ago and loving it. I’m rocking a faith confessor build with a winged scythe and godslayer seal. Is there armor available that either matches the look of the default confessor armor and/or buffs faith/ other relevant stats? Thanks!
Edit: if I should aim for fashion, which armor sets look similar to the default confessor set but cooler (black cape and stuff)?
Only helmets provide stat buffs. The halig tree armor sets all have helmets that buff faith.
there are some chest pieces that increase faith fyi
Such as??
Aim for fashion. There is an imp head that boost faith but it looks bad.
It works for my decrepit faith heretic build, so I love the look. But niche.
Nights Calvary Set with any black hood you can find, including Confessors hood.
I'm doing a similar build and just got the blackflame monk set. Might be worth checking out.
Just based on looks. Mausoleum knight set: The plate is dirty steel looking and the cape is dark with a white a sun design.
Trying to do a run with just a pure faith build and was trying to find any sort of armor at all that could help me with this. Couldn't find anything searching the internet so I came here to see if anybody here had an idea for armor or something.
I just started the same one, for now I'm going with the knight's spear that you find when you leave the crypt. I think the armor depends more on the heaviest you can carry at any given time without preventing you from dodging with agility. Those that improve attributes often do not pay off. What weapon and enchantments do you carry?
I just use the beast crest heater shield, and the Erdtree seal with the black flame incantation. Its pretty good but I would focus on getting like 60 faith and then focusing on health because its a pretty big issue for me right now especially because I don't have good armor for this build yet
The black flame monk armor looks great. You can go tree sentinel for a more paladinish look, without helmet it looks sick.
Whatever gives you at least 51 poise
Robes
Armor isn't really tied to builds in this game. For most pieces it really only matters that you have the Endurance to carry the weight. There are a few exceptions (the White Mask boosts Bleed builds, the Raptor's Black Feathers boosts jump attacks etc.) but for the most part armor is just for defense. There is the Haligtree Knight Helm which gives +1 Faith but that is an incosequential buff when you get it (very late).
I’m still using the beginning prophet robes, and they aren’t holding up, I’ve beaten Godrick, I also don’t mind if Armor requires a large quest line to get. So is there any good defensive Armor for an incantation faith build?
Armor doesn't care about your stats aside from End effecting your weight limit, so anything you can find that works is good. You can buy the knight set in the Roundtable hold, it's pretty good.
Doesn’t some Armor boost your incantation or sorcery damage though? Or are they not relevant to me right now?
Some helms will boost faith by 1 or 2, but by and large it’s only defensive stats
Very slightly, but it almost never matters unless minmaxing, and some of them penalize other stats anyway. If you are trying to minmax for PvP or one shot builds and you're already good at dodging then yeah you can build for them but by then you'd have enough knowledge to know about that stuff anyway.
You'll encounter a decent set of medium armor with good magic resistance in Raya Lucaria. It's a bit hidden so don't be shy to interrupt some of the enemies worshiping their dead lord-knight.
This set should make the remainder of the second area a bit easier.
You can also farm Godrick's knights for parts of their armor. That's one of the lighter medium sets that offer adequate protection.
Or you could farm the big knight in Stormveil castle for a heavy armor set (Banished Knight set)
You can farm the Godrick Knight Armor set at Gatedront Ruins. But rather spawning from its grace, I spawned at one further south. This way I could agro only the knight.
It's a fashion game bro
I don’t know how to interpret that
You dress to impress, not so much for stat/poise bonus
I haven’t really focused on armor just my weapon, wondering if there was a really good armor set to focus on for my build?
Thanks for the replies, I also just realized you can can’t upgrade armor lol.
You can alter some armor with the gold sewing needle, but I’m not sure how/if it effects any of their scaling or your attributes. If at a site of grace and you have the needle, scroll to the bottom and their should be an option to alter garments.
This is a common and not very good question tbh.
The only thing that really matters with armor is can you equip it without fat rolling? Theres no stats tied to armor and outside of a few specific pieces they don't do anything special for your build so there is no 'best' armor for a dex build or a faith build or whatever.
Wear whatever you want that doesn't make you fat roll and has the best defences. Or just wear what looks cool.
there are several pieces that are low weight and increase your faith, so they would do something special for the build tbf.
What are those pieces?
Like what
Apparently Haligtree Knight set boosts faith.
Tree Sentinel's and Crucible Knight are both good in the base game.
For DLC, I quite like the Death Knight and the Oathkeeper Knight Set.
Ledas armor
Crucible knight or Crucible tree
Do you ask reddit when you go clothes shopping?
Loretta's set with the Veteran helmet.
Banished Knight chest (with the cape) and the Veteran legs, gloves and helmet.
I'm doing a faith build and was wondering if there's an armor set to complement my incantations or if I should just get something with good defense.
There are some helms that adds faith points. Haligtree helms for example.
Ash of war scarab is a viable option if you like blasphemous blade spamming. Aside from that nothing stands out, so just aim for good defenses and 51/56 poise.
Crucible boosts their incants, but that's about the best I've found.
Goldmask mask boosts golden order incantations
I used Haligtree Helm for my Faith build. Armor is personally preference. Tree Sentinel Armor is a nice thematic choice, what I used.
Hey! I‘m starting my first Elden Ring playthrough soon and have read a bit into the matter, I kind of want to do a Faith Build. While I‘ve watched a couple of videos I thought it might still be a good idea to ask here and get some opinions, too. I‘d love to hear what recommendations you guys have to offer (and any other tips for Elden Ring are welcome, too)!!
If you want to just cast incantations, which are the Faith-based spells, then it's pretty simple: 40 - 60 Vigor, 25 - 38 Mind, and 80 Faith. You'll also want some amount of Endurance, but that's a matter of personal taste. Prophet is the best starting class for this. The strongest sacred seals (the things you use to cast incantations) are Finger Seal, the Godslayer's Seal, and eventually the Erdtree Seal when you get to 70+ Faith.
You can modify this somewhat, of course! Feel free to throw in some Intelligence or Arcane if you find spells that require those stats. Or you can invest a bit in Strength or Dex to try out some melee weapons.
There's also Strenght/Faith builds, which let you be good at melee and cast strong incantations. Vagabond is a good starting class, tho Prophet lets you start casting right away. There's a seal called the Clawmark Seal that you can get pretty early on that scales with Strength and Faith. This build also has a ton of options for melee weapons.
General advice:
IMO, your first run is exploring the world and finding out what you like about the game. Don't worry about being "optimal" or having a perfect build. Try to just have fun instead!
I hope this isn't too confusing. Feel free to ask more questions if you have any!
I really want to do a mix of Strength and Faith I think, I don’t want to only cast! I‘ll keep in my what you told me, it’s already super helpful. I think I’ll go with Vagabond just so I can take a bit more damage, I think that’s good for the beginning! Thank you so much for the advice so far!!
Without really spoiling anything, you can use your faith as the damage stat on your weapons too. So you can have high faith, cast spells good and have strong weapons as well.
Than you just need as much strength/dexterity as you need to wield the weapon. If you are late game and have all the other stats the way you like them, you can put more points into those stats to uo the damage.

start as a vagabond for better starting stat spread if you care about optimization. your first goals should be lightning spear and bloodflame blade, then 27 faith, godslayer seal and black flame before you start upgrading seals. upgrading the finger seal is a waste.
Okay, thanks a lot!! I’ll try and do that ^^
while most people would rightfully preach vigor before anything else, faith builds can get away with it by having an excessive amount of healing to recover from mistakes.

This is what I use. It’s multipurpose but I use some fundamentalist spells so I need the int. Note: This is mostly holy damage which is suboptimal but it can use lots of different incantations and be set up in different ways.
Thanks, I’ll give it a look!
Looking to run a good faith build for the beginning of my NG+2 run before all the bosses get holy damage negation and need some good faith build suggestions, can be a hybrid build, incantations build or just anything faith centered. Just curious what talisman and weapon combos people use as well as their specs
2 hand a heavy str weapon with 54 str (80 when 2 handed) then pump faith and buff with lightning armament/FGMS/Golden vow. My vote is for the claymore. Find a fun AoW and go to town.
Thank-you! I just found my build for Shadow!
Nice! You can also do an int version. Claymore + glint blade phalanx staggers like no other. Heavy infusion with the scholar's armament buff.
"before all the bosses get holy damage negation" Is this only in NG+?
Lategame bosses all have bullshit high holy resistance.
You can do very high damage even with holy build to them if you set all buffs and stats right, I managed to beat game on ng+7 with marika hammer and holy incantations
While I am a strong proponent of str/faith and an enjoyer of the dex/faith, if you're just getting into it for the first time then I suggest just a full faith build the first time.
60-80 faith depending on budget (sometimes I settle for 70 for a 150 build).
60 vigor, as usual.
About 25 mind is comfortable, but this again depends on point budget.
Last is the decision on what weapons you use. 16 strength is enough to Flame-Art infuse yourself a number of weapons like Claymore and Knight's Greatsword, whereas 22 strength is needed for heftier specialty weapons like Envoy Longhorn and Blasphemous Blade (though one could argue that you can use 16 strength and just 2-hand). You can go ~16-20 dex instead if there's a particular weapon you like -- I ran a Flame Art Antspur for awhile, accompanied by other dexy weapons like Flame Art Uchi and Flame Art whips, but that was personal preference. You can also opt to pick neither and go for stuff like dual Coded Sword and Cipher Pata, or other low-requirement normal weapons.
For your casting seals, you tend to want to match your seal to what you cast most, so Giants' Seal when casting pyromancies and Sacred Gravel if you're sticking to lightning. If you have more than 70 faith, there's an argument for the Erdtree Seal instead, as it tends to be around equal to specialty seals at their own spells at high faith.
Now, there's a few ways to approach casting. You can either do the more 'hybrid' style where you switch your offhand to the seal of your choice whenever you want to cast, or else you try for a 'pure' caster with two of the same seals in each hand in order to stack their bonuses.
Generally useful casting talismans include Flock Canvas, Fire Scorpion, Lightning Scorpion, Godfrey Icon, Radagon Icon, and Old Lord's if you like buffs. However, all the normal solid talismans like Shard of Alex, Dragoncrest, Erdtree Favor, and even Green Turtle are just fine based on your goals and preferences. There's some nice cross-synergy between some like Fire Scorpion and Shard of Alex for Blasphemous Blade, or between Fire Scorpion and Godfrey Icon for big hitters like Giantsflame.
You generally stick Flame Art or Sacred on all your weapons as needed to skirt around resistances. Similar with casting: you tend to use fire and lightning most, but don't be afraid to use holy, physical, or even magic-types as necessary -- also, any Blackflame spell will ignore most defenses, and is a good pick against bosses resistant to all elements.
Thank you for this, although I consider myself a pretty advance player, I wasn't sure how to coach my older sister who may start playing ER soon (after 2 years of seeing me play). I was afraid to accidentally make her build into something I would want and nothing something that would fit her. This was very useful, thank you!
Not often I get a response to an 8 month old post, lol.
Good luck with your sister. If you want an early recommend, get a simple weapon or even just stick to starting weapons, and find Sacred Blade for her. Having an early ranged attack on a weapon is really comfortable for first timers so they don't get surprised by Stormhawks and have something to poke with.
Dex/Faith duel wielding Halo Scythe and Winged Scythe was pretty fun.
I'm loving curved gs(flame arts) with all the snap casts(pocket sand, flame, and discus as my main 3)
Best armor for faith builds in Elden Ring
Key Considerations for Armor in Faith Builds:
Poise: Look for armor sets that provide good poise to help you withstand hits while casting spells or attacking. A poise value of 50 or higher is generally effective for tanking.
Weight: Balance your armor choice with your equip load. Staying below 70% of your maximum equip load allows for a fast roll, which is crucial for dodging attacks.
Resistance: Consider armor that offers high resistance to physical damage, as well as good resistance to status effects like bleed and poison, which can be common in PvP and PvE.
Aesthetic and Roleplay: Choose armor that fits your character's theme and your personal aesthetic preferences, as this can enhance your overall gaming experience.
Recommended Armor Sets for Faith Builds:
Bull-Goat Set:
Lionel's Set:
Blaidd's Set:
Radahn's Set:
Giant's Set:
Takeaway: For a Faith build, consider the Bull-Goat or Lionel's sets for maximum defense and poise, but be mindful of your equip load to maintain mobility. If you prefer a lighter option, Blaidd's or Radahn's sets can provide a good balance between protection and agility.
