TL;DR: The best Barbarian builds in Baldur's Gate 3 focus on maximizing damage output and survivability. Popular choices include the Berserker subclass for high damage, the Wildheart subclass for tankiness, and multiclassing options with Fighter or Rogue for additional attacks and utility. Key feats like Great Weapon Master and Tavern Brawler enhance combat effectiveness.
The Berserker subclass is favored for its offensive capabilities. At level 3, you gain access to Frenzied Strike, allowing you to make an additional attack as a bonus action while raging. This can lead to significant damage output, especially when combined with the Great Weapon Master feat, which allows for powerful strikes at the cost of accuracy 1:1
5 (2:10).
The Wildheart subclass offers unique animal aspects that provide various benefits. For example, choosing the Bear aspect grants resistance to all damage while raging, making it one of the tankiest options available 1:1. Alternatively, the Tiger aspect allows for cleave attacks that deal bleed damage, effectively controlling the battlefield by knocking enemies prone
7:1.
Many players opt to multiclass into Fighter for the Action Surge ability, which allows for an extra action during combat. This can be particularly effective when paired with the Barbarian's rage mechanics, enabling multiple attacks in a single turn 2:5. A common build is Barbarian 8 / Fighter 4, maximizing both melee damage and survivability.
Another popular option is to dip into Rogue, specifically the Thief subclass, which provides an additional bonus action for more attacks or item usage. Combining this with the Tavern Brawler feat allows for throwing weapons to deal substantial damage while maintaining versatility in combat 1:3
5 (0:11).
Barbarians in Baldur's Gate 3 can be incredibly powerful when built correctly. Whether you prefer a straightforward melee approach with the Berserker subclass or a more tactical playstyle with the Wildheart subclass and multiclass options, there are numerous ways to create a fun and effective Barbarian build. Experiment with different combinations of subclasses, feats, and party compositions to find what works best for your playstyle!
How would you build a barbarian, would you pair them with fighter or maybe a paladin for some sites? Or is barbarian even really worth playing in this game, as they always seemed weaker to me.
Barbarians are great, pairing them with a caster capable of using Haste is pretty huge since it gives them 2 extra attacks at level 5. It might be kind of overpowered, but building a 'throwing' Barbarian and taking the Tavern Brawler feat is pretty broken (at 20 Strength you get +5 to attack and damage on throws, but you can also get to 22 permanent Strength for +6/+6 if you know what to do), you can get a thrown weapon which returns to your hands in Act 1 from a merchant (named Returning Pike or something), and there are a fair amount of items which boost throw damage and weapon damage.
Not only that, but thrown weapons can also deal 'fall/crushing' damage based on their weight and the height you throw them from (the returning pike is pretty heavy so is also decent for this)
Is the throw barb a good option to take over multiclassing to others like fighter or paladin? Is there a way to maximize shoving enemies.with Barb as well?
I would say so, my throwing Barbarian deals the most single target damage on my team by far and I was able to trigger the 2nd phase of the act 2 boss on turn 1 (before it even acted), and kill the 2nd phase in like 2 turns on standard difficulty.
My basic plan is Haste them, use rage, then throw 4-5 times per turn (I picked Frenzy so they would also throw attack as a bonus action if the combat lasts multiple turns)
Or is barbarian even really worth playing in this game, as they always seemed weaker to me.
I tried Berserker 12 and Wildheart 12 babarians. Berserker is just a more offensive version with 3 attacks per turn like a maxed out Fighter. Instead of spamming 3x normal attacks you get to use different weapon actions.
Wildheart 12, I went the bear route. Sure only 2 attacks per turn but near rage gives you resistance to all making this the tankiest frontliner.
I played both builds as a two handed melee build. Don't feel they are weaker than other melee classes.
Im new to the franchise and dnd aswell Ive played RPGs before so I get specializing in specific stats but as for abilities Im at a loss obviously picking what sounds fun is a good idea but my character still feels weak (to be fair he's only level 4) I just dont want to get burnt out because the combat is kicking my ass
Berzerker half orc all the way baby. Dump most points into strength then con then Dex. Other stats can be lowered to their minimum. Personally I put the remaining point into wis for the saves.
I did a zerk gold dwarf barb I’m only level 6 but I’m getting 4 attacks a turn and doing about 20-30 damage an attack. It definitely feels a bit broken already. A lot of it is how you use them.
How are you getting 4 attacks
u/AdFuture8876
Sorry haven't been on reddit in a minute. I was using an elixir for an additional aa. When he rages you get 1 action 2 bonus action and if you kill you get an additional action and or bonus. I since pushed into fighter as well for the action surge. Its a lot broken going that route so unless you want to be basically a God I would avoid being able to attack 5+ times in a turn.
Strength and Constitution are your main stats, followed closely by Dextarity.
Consider 2 levels of fighter for Action Surge, and Second Wind.
Early game Barbarian:
Starting Stats - 16 Str, 14 Dex, 16 Con, 8 Int, 12 Wis, 8 Cha
Subclass - Berserker
Level 4 ASI - Increase Str to 18
Weapons - Strongest 2H weapon you can find, keep a handful of throwing weapons in inventory (javelins, spears, handaxes, etc)
Armor - Any medium armor with at least 14 AC, or none.
Playstyle - Rage, attack recklessly, use throwing weapons if unable to get in melee range.
Mid to End Game Barbarian:
Starting Stats - 16 Str, 14 Dex, 16 Con, 8 Int, 12 Wis, 8 Cha
Subclass - Wildheart, Elk Aspect
Level 4 ASI - Polearm Master
Level 8 ASI - Great Weapon Master
Level 12 ASI - Increase Str or take Sentinel Feat
Weapons - Strongest Halberd or Glaive you can find (Sorrow/Harmonium Halberd/Halberd of Vigilance)
Armor - The Mighty Cloth for chest, Cloak of Protection, Bracers of Defense, anything that gives momentum, movement speed, or additional AC while unarmored.
Buffs - Bloodthirst Elixer, Potion of Speed, Longstrider spell if available
Playstyle - Rage, attack recklessly, use throwing weapons if unable to get in melee range. For bonus action attack use Great Weapon Master if its available, or Polearm butt attack if not.
Alternate End Game Barbarian Multiclass
Levels - Barbarian 5 / Paladin 4 / Fighter 3
Starting Stats - 16 Str, 14 Dex, 16 Con, 8 Int, 8 Wis, 12 Cha
Subclasses - Wildheart Elk Aspect, Oath of Vengeance or Oathbreaker, Champion
First ASI - Polearm Master
Second ASI - Great Weapon Master
Weapons/Armor/Buffs - Same
Playstyle - Rage, attack recklessly, use throwing weapons if unable to get in melee range. For bonus action attack use Great Weapon Master if its available, or Polearm butt attack if not. Use Divine Smite on Crit.
So I'm about to finish up my first playthrough(tiefling warlock) and considering my next character. I didn't enjoy warlock as much as I thought I would do I am probably going to make a barbarian, my favorite class from the one DND game I've ever played. What are the popular builds for them? Any decent multiclasses? I don't care about maxing the character and just want to play something fun
A Berserker 8/Thief 4 throwing build is pretty popular/optimised because it gives you 4 throws per round. With Tavern Brawler and returning weapon Nyrulna the damage gets insane.
Buuuttttt I want to whack stuff with a big sword. So while I'm running Bers 8/Thief 4, my strat is to hit stuff twice with my greatsword then chuck random crap at enemies with two enraged throws to knock them prone (I threw a broken Moonlantern at someone the other day).
I take GWM, Tavern Brawler and ASI. Because I have hag hair and Tavern brawler gives +1 Str this still gets my Str to 20 from starting at 16. It's not super optimised but I still get two attacks and two very strong, accurate throws per round...
In theory. I'm only Berserker 5, Thief 3 and haven't got Tavern Brawler yet
You’re going to want to absolutely maximize strength to improve hit chance if you’re going to use GWM on a regular basis. Although as long as you’re using reckless attack you’ll have advantage which is a huge help.
Although as long as you’re using reckless attack you’ll have advantage which is a huge help.
Yep I wouldn't have got it at Lvl 4 without reckless attack. The numbers are too low early game without advantage aye.
9/3 barb champ, your choice on barb sub but I like animal barb
A barbarian focused on throwing objects and enemies around sounds fun. Berserker 8/Thief 4 sounds like the most common build for that. Though I wonder if a Barbarian/Monk could be pulled off, or if the stat requirement for that is too high to be feasible.
What would the stat requirement be? I know nothing about monks
For barbarian monk, you go 3 berserker barbarian / 6 OH monk / 3 thief and use items/elixirs to boost your strength either permanently or temporarily
Your stats would have you dump charisma and intelligence and you’d probably want to max out strength and dex as much as possible (probably 17 and 16). For wisdom, I’d suggest having it at least 12. For items, you’d want a shield and a throwing trident. For your asi on tavern brawler, you’d increase strength. This build nets you decent AC and offers the ability to run in and punch for damage in addition to throwing. For your gear, I’d suggest wearing something like the helmet of grit on your head. This will offer a 4th bonus action for a total of 6 throws per turn OR 2 throws and 8 unarmed attacks without haste or bloodlust potions active. In sustained dpr, you can compete with the pure fighter throwing build, but you lose out on eldritch knight’s versatility with spells
Fun can mean a lot of different things. But if you want fun and crazy try wild magic barb. It’s chaotic and sometimes just amazing.
For melee, I love Wildheart (Tiger) Barbarian 5 / Battlemaster Fighter 4 / Thief Rogue 3.
I know it would obviously be Strength, but im also wondering what else i should put points into?
Also is the Barbarian and Fighter equal? Cause im really just looking for the most damage

Priority would be Strength, then CON.
Con because Barbarian is gonna get hit a lot. Reckless attack is great, basically giving you advantage whenever you want, but gives enemies advantage against you.
If you just want more damage output fighter might be better since they get 3 attacks per action in the late game and have action surge to get an extra action once per short rest, which is just more damage output.
Barbarian has solid damage output and can be a top tier tank. Reckless attack being pretty much free advantage is a great combo with great weapon master. I personally like beat aspect wild heart barbarian, which while raging resists all damage except psychic. It functionally takes the class with the most HP and effectively double's their health pool..
Open Hand Monk is also a great Melee DPS, especially if you build it around Tavern Brawler.
Currently a Barbarian build. I'm wanting to create some of the hardest damage builds. I'm currently in Act 1, where I just met Astarian.
What are the best skills, attributes and possible subclasses that aid in being a tank and a great Fighter/Barbarian?
Tavern Brawler Throw Berserker is one of the strongest specs in the game currently.
Tavern Brawler makes it so that your unarmed attacks, improvised weapons, and throw ability adds your strength modifier to both the damage and attack, twice. Berserker gives you frenzied throw, which allows you to throw with your bonus action while raging and knocks whoever you target prone at the expense of a stack of Frenzied Strain(-1 to attack) each time you use it. Taking a dip into thief rogue for the second bonus action can make this absolutely broken, allowing you to rage and frenzied throw on the same turn.
The build I'd most suggest is Berserker 5, Thief Rogue 4(for the second feat which you can either use to max your constitution or pick up another melee feat like polearm master or Great Weapon Master), Fighter Champion 3 for the crit. Though honestly Once you hit Berserker 5 it doesn't really matter how you build, you're going to be destroying everything.
There's some items you can get early on in act 1 that makes it even more bonkers, such as the Ring of Flinging, Returning Pike, Gloves of Uninhibited Kushigo, and the Caustic Band.
If you're really looking to min-max, you might also consider investing in Elixirs of Hill Giant Strength. If you take advantage of Auntie Ethel's early supply of them and vendor inventories resetting on long rest and every individual level up, you can keep your strength permanently at 21 and reallocate the points you would otherwise have put into strength into constitution and dexterity to increase your AC and turn you into an unstoppable juggernaut even at low levels.
heard multiple good things like aspect of chimpz being buffed. what do you guys think?
Still probably Barb 6/Lock 6 or Barb 5/Lock 5/Pal 2 doing tiger claw stuff.
The only one that matters.
8 barbarian Eagle/Stallion 4 Fighter.
Get Hamarhraft, get Reverb stuff, jump off stuff, murder enemies, profit.
isnt that just the oompa goomba build? dont even need to be a barb for it, in fact i think it suits clerics or anything that can fly better
Maybe {Wildheart 6, Open-hand 6}
Tiger cleave to cause bleeding. Then add 3x STR modifier on flurry of blows. Wholeness of body for more flurries.
Or is this what everybody was already using?
Yeah that class combo is straight up broken if you go tiger/wolverine. Tiger swipe bleed -> attacking bleeding enemy maims them -> use FoB to knock them prone -> they can’t move due to maim so they can’t stand up so they end up just skipping their turn.
isnt 8 barb 4 fighter better?
is this unarmed build?
The double str modifier from tiger aspect is only to attack rolls and not to damage iirc, and your attack roll bonus with TB is already high enough that you're basically never missing, even against bosses with 27+ AC. Could be good with mods that give enemies even more AC, but you aren't really getting a lot of value out of it in the base game imo.
I personally like the eagle heart 8 wolverine /4 champion. Only thing is you need to carry many crates in your inventory.
Probably still Berzerker/Thief TB
I want to play yet another playthrough but I am kinda bored of same kind of main character every single time.
I heard barbarians have some cool dialogue options etc. but I keep reading the only good barb build is the throw one. Could you please suggest me some viable melee build that would also be pretty fun to play?
On another note I am considering going 11 Barb 1 Hexblade. Would that even be a thing? :)
Any barbarian subclass + great weapon master is great because reckless attack offsets the attack roll penalty. Plenty of great weapons in act 1 and 2 to get a build going fairly early.
Giant Barb has access to thamaturgy making it an okay face character and Wild heart can talk to animals.
If you don't mind sacking a companion to boal then Wild heart tiger is actually a great class, especially if you use strength potions.
Barbarian as a melee is also quite fun, the penalty for the frenzy strike barely inconvenienced me cause shart keep using bless
You can also do the thing where you steal the sickle of booal using another character as soon as it appears in dialogue, then instead of giving you that the red cap gives your whole party Booal's blessing
https://www.reddit.com/r/BG3Builds/s/34uTrx96qv link about it here if anyone needs it
How do you switch characters in dialog?
Good old 9 Tiger wild heart barb + 3 fighter champion does wonders. Or 9Tiger 2fighter 1hexblade and do max charisma 0 str run.
Just cleave enemies with Tiger bloodlust + CC gear(boots of stormy clamour, mourning frost, winter clutches, coldbrim hat, snowburst ring for example should be pretty good CC/dmg while beeing rather unique).
This way every enemy you hit get encrusted with frost, bleed, reverberation, ice on the ground and probably some other cc's. Also decent'ish dmg(gwm mourning frost isn't bad). Wolverine aspect for additional CC(maim) or Tiger aspect for extra accuracy.
That build is now better with swashbuckler (and maybe a 1-level hexblade dip), bleed/main gives the enemy disadvantage on dirty tricks saving throws
Can you elaborate? Seems cool
6 Tiger Wildheart with Wolverine aspect has one of the most unique melee features in the game, Tiger's Bloodlust is a AOE cleave attack targeting up to 3 enemies that auto bleeds then maims even on miss (causing disadvantage on CON and DEX saves), if u pair it with reverb gear enemies who are prone for multiple rounds completely skip their rounds. Cleave AOE means u can bypass any honour mode sactuary.
Later levels are up to personal preference, i use 6/2/4 fighter/thief for action surge and bonus action to use consumables or extra attack from GWM, 8/4 u gain barb mini feat (7th lvl) another feat at 8th and battle maneuvers but a bit worse action economy.
Giant barb is a great main character and does not need throwing to excel. Just give him great weapon master instead of tavern brawler and you are good to go.
You can still throw, shove or kick enemies around but your main shtick will be hitting em in the face with a big sword / axe or whatever.
It's a strong class without relying on throwing or tavern brawler.
Rage is great, resistance to most damage, reckless attack is fantastic, frenzied strike is great, elemental cleaver without throwing is still good, and you get the cool kick, wild heart gives good options for utility too.
A popular build is the tiger bleed build. End up with 10/2 barb/fighter, taking wild heart tiger- tiger and wolverine. This is a great control build that can knock enemies prone and maim them so they can't get back up, stun locking whole groups. You get crazy accuracy against bleeding targets too.
Essentially running a zealot build is great, mix any paladin oath (crown would be interesting, haven't tried that) with barb. Smite still works during rage. I've done 5/2/5 barb, paladin, sorc just to get smite and as many spell slots as I can (and access to sorcery point jank if I want to).
Hexblade barb would be interesting. I'm thinking it could work nicely with wildheart tiger, cleave applying hex to 3 targets and then them all rising as spectres? That'd have to be 6/6. You could use armour of Agathys and you get shield (which you can use while raging). Could be pretty good actually.
Playing as a Barbarian and I love it, but I don't know what to do with the class later on. I was thinking of builds and am deciding between multiclassing into Paladin for Divine Smites and basic healing stuff, or Multiclassing and Respeccing into Monk for unarmed and throwing stuff. What would work better? Im torn between the two because I like the moves and stuff a Monk has, but I also really like being able to use different weapons and stuff(assuming as monk with Tavern Brawler you'd be hitting unarmed most of the time).
Why not be both Karlach (assuming you have her in your party ) you can play the one you don't, it's still you playing it after all. Then after playing both you can settle on which suites how you feel best and respec, it's only 100 gold the price of picking up some junk and trading it.
My party is pretty much going to be My character, Wyll, Astarion, Shadowheart. Karlach is cool but I prefer this party, so I probably wont have much time for Karlach to be running around in party and in combat.
Tavern brawler, throw stuff (returning pike, barrels ... And barrels .......).
After getting the second action at 5 switch to thief 3 for the bonus action and you'll be throwing for days.
Ngl I love this gameplay, so much destruction.
Mechanically speaking tavern brawler in its current form is better. I would argue it is too good if you know how to min-max it. While Barb + Paladin is strong, it's not balance shattering.
Any advice?
Max str, great weapon master, heavy weapon and use reckless attack.
Here's one option: https://www.aestusguides.com/guides/fallen-light-an-eagleheart-barbarian-build
I actually didn't take great weapon master in that build, but it's probably better with it. It just gets old putting GWM in every build.
Hoping for spear+shield+Polearm Master on my gnome barbarian at launch
Bezerker is really good imo, but eagleheart with the Hammer that let's you do lightning damage with a jump is fun
Also if you get the helm that gives you a bonus action when below 50%, and you're a bezerker, you get 3 swings per turn,
I wouldn't recommend GWM on a bezerker, only because it gives you an attack as a bonus action, and the amount of times you'll miss with GWM vs 3 normal attacks, I'd bet money the non GWM does more damage over all
The thing is that your bonus action swing can only be utilized once a turn so I found myself utilizing that swing on kill a lot. There have been a ton of testing around GWM and regardless of attacks it comes out on top if the individual can gain advantage...which barbarians can :).
I had a lot of fun with the Githyanki Eagleheart, jump spell plus leaping attack.
The one you make baby. *fingerguns*
BEAR BEAR BEAR
New ish to the game. I usually do magic related builds but wanted to try out the rage filled unga bunga. All I know is pick half orc and do berserker. Just looking for the "top" build I guess since every link I try to use on Google says something different and seems kinda odd. Also who would I be suggested to use as my other 3 teammates since it'll be solo run. If anyone could help point in the right direction or drop a link that's actually accurate I'd appreciate my friends.
Edit - I've always been shit at build making which leads me to always tryna look shit up 😂
Gnome with bear heart subclass. Grab great weapon master and polearm master for offense.
For best results, go something like barb 8/thief 4 so you can attack 4 times per turn.
Just go with the flow and experiment with it.
My own group is Tav (female Half Orc Berserk Barbarian), Karlach (Wildheart Barbarian), Lae’zel (Eldritch Knight Fighter) and Shadowheart (Bless-bot heal-bot Cleric).
Was about to ask how well an almost all melee team would go, lol. Yet I imagine the only way would probably need shadowheart to be a healbot like you have her
No problems, so far (beginning of Act 2, the group is lvl. 7).
All melee group is quite resilient. Shadowheart needs to be protected at times cause she is the squishiest member of the group. The newly acquired Adamantine armor is going to help her a lot in this regard, hopefully.
idk about min max.. I just throw my pike at enemies and they die, simple as that.
Ive seen some interesting builds online, but what do you think the strongest barbarian build is? Likely throwing, but wild heart bleed builds seem good, as do drunken bastard builds.
Barblock can reckless + double Tiger bloodlust in non-honor which is just a ton of fun. Go 7 barb for feral instincts, 5 goolock for pact of the blade, Bhaalist + crimson mischief more than makes up for the half base damage from bloodlust
Barblock was severely nerfed after patch 5
Only in honor mode
TB Throw. My guide on it will be out tommorow morning, keep an eye out.
Hell yeah!
I've beat the game a few times on all the difficulties, now playing with mods. It's on honor + extra encounters/enemies and such, but with feats at every 2 levels/fast XP. It's really fun and fresh!
The one class I haven't played at all really is barbarian. I tried on my very first playthrough but it just didn't feel fun? I liked fighter better for anything I got out of barbarian, it felt.
But, I had a similar opinion about druids and now I am running a Tav druid with a lot of RP stuff and it's great! What are some things I can do with Barbarian? What makes them really special?
Note: Not interested in throwing builds, TB or not. I find throwing infuriating because of how pathing works. It becomes way, way to tedious to reposition by one pixel so I can throw something, while the AI can throw grenades through cracks in walls.
I've had some fun playing 6 Wild-Heart (Tiger) Barbarian and 6 Battlemaster Fighter, with the focus on bleeding.
First you grab the >!BOOAAL buff either by sacrificing or the pickpocket method!<, to gain advantage on all bleeding targets. Tiger barb can bleed every turn during rage.
Second you grab the Animal Aspect that maims the target when they are bleeding.
Lastly you grab trip attack from Battlemaster.
Now you can bleed and knock them prone, but since they are maimed, they have no movement and cannot stand up. So as long as a target is prone and you hit them with bleed, they are kinda stunned!
Build works with 8 barb and 4 fighter, or 9 barb and 3 fighter depending on what you want. Both 6/6 and 8/4 works for 3 feats, I recommend these.
10/2 is also good if you want both Tiger and Wolverine aspects. It sacrifices a feat and no fighter subclass, but you still get Action Surge and an extra fighting style, and if you take GWM and one ASI you can still use items or elixirs to work around Barbarian's MAD.
Wild heart Barb was much more fun than expected. I think the big kicker is how well Reckless Attack smooths out those first levels where accuracy is dodgy (especially if you GWM at 4).
I played a variant of this with Open Hand Monk instead of Fighter and it was a lot of fun
Echoing what u/MrCreepday suggested, I also recommend a bleed focused barbarian, but combo it with the Blood Sorcerer modded class.
Blood Sorcerer is a modded subclass, but it is surprisingly well balanced, as far as modded classes go. You deal necrotic damage with bonuses for bleeding damage, but the spells cause self-danage in the form of necrotic damage and bleeding.
Some blood sorcery spells only work against bleeding enemies, or enemies standing on blood surfaces, and a tiger barbarian is the best class in the game at bleeding enemies. Tiger aspect barbarian with aspect of the wolverine doubles as a crowd control martial class, since your blood Sorcerer can make enemies bleed as well.
To round out your party, poison builds slot very nicely with this comp, for two reasons. 1) Wolverine aspect maims enemies that are bleeding or poisoned 2) Bleeding enemies have disadvantage on constitution saving throws, which most poisons and poison spells target. Your poisoner can be either an archer using powerful consumables like drow poison or crawler mucus, or have a poison caster if you're also using mods like 5E spells or feats extra.
I am really enjoying my support-ish barbarian build I’m running as Tav at the moment. He’s a wildheart barbarian with wolf as the level 3 choice and elk as the level 6. All my allies have extra movement and advantage on attacks against creatures close to me, which is particularly destructive for a GWM using lae’zel and/or a sneak attack using Astarion. Oh, and he puts out impressive damage numbers himself using GWM. I really like my Tavs to have builds that reflect their position as leader of the party and this one is definitely going for a wild, pack leader vibe.
I'm running an immortal retaliation bearheart tempest cleric in heavy armor at the minute. Beaten all content solo quite comfortably and haven't changed my gear since level 6.
Watersparkers, rippling force mail, phalar aluve, holy lance helm, belligerent skies, Callous Glow and peripat.
It just passively kills everything.
I really loved the "Holy Warrior" build I used on Karlach once. You can build this many different ways but the quick summaries of my favourites are:
1.) The classic: 4 Barbarian with your favourite Subclass, on ttrpg it would be Zealot, but that's not in BG3, so use whichever and the rest you take your favourite Paladin Oath.
2.) The more magical: 1Barbarian for Rage, 5 Paladin for Extra Attack and Spell Slot Progression, 6 of either Sorcerer or Bard. You can take Lore Bard for some really good Spells from Magical Secrets that continue to work in Rage if cast before raging like Armour of Agathys and Warden of Vitality and some utility/fun Spells like Feather Fall, Longstrider & Speak with Animals.
Or you can go Sorcerer for less Spell utility while keeping the same Spell Slot progression for more pure Smiting uses.
I realize the latter is pretty much the least amount of Barbarian possible and it's certainly not a classic Barbarian, but Rahe is still the cornerstone of the build and I had a lot of fun with it and I'm definitely making another run with this build.
Hello, I’m completely new to this type of game and to the dnd world in general. Waiting for the game to come out on PS5 and planning a build while I wait. Wanting to do a half orc barbarian berserker. Looking to just get as much damage and as many attacks per turn I can for maximum bonks. Would it be better to just go full 12 lvls as barbarian or should I multi class? Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Another great suggestion, go to barbarian lvl 5 make sure to choose berserker subclass. Then rogue 3 lvls to grab thief, finish with barbarian. Make sure your first feat is tavern brawler.
Get the returning pike from the goblin camp. The ring of fling from the Druid camp and the caustic ring for extra acid damage. Throw everything. Focus on clothing armour, like the mighty cloth or graceful cloth, depending on which, it’ll boost strength, Dex, or straight up more throwing damage. With this build you’ll be throwing 3-4 times per turn and wrecking your enemies. Late game weapon is the legendary trident you can get from tricking the genie in early act 3 where you get sent to Dino land. Keep the returning pike for 1 on 1 damage as the trident has a blast radius and will damage your companions. For the final boss, grab a bunch of javelins otherwise you will lose your returning weapons to weapon death.
For barbarian you'll prolly want to multiclass eventually in your build to keep up its strength. If you wanted to keep it simple you could just do 9 levels of Barbarian and 3 levels of Fighter(or 8 of barb and 4 fighter to get all your feats). Having action surge is pretty strong, but thats on level 2 of Fighter, so theoretically you could also just only dip into 2 levels of Fighter. From there you can do whatever else you want as well. A lot of people do 3 levels of thief rogue from what ive seen to get an extra bonus action. For Feats, most people get big damage out of 2 feats: Great Weapon Master and Tavern Brawler. GWM adds like a +10 damage to your attacks but makes it way harder to hit, so the trade off is spamming Reckless Attacks(gives you advantage on hit, but also makes you easier to hit for enemies).
Tavern Brawler boosts your improvised melee attacks/throwing stuff as well as unarmed attacks, so people who do that just abuse Berserkers Enraged Throw ability and throw literally everything for massive damage. You can also do Barbarian+ Open Hand monk with a few specific items to raise your dex and strength, and you'll be doing some of the most damage in the game(albeit, i find this multiclass idea kinda boring because your using your barehands rather than any cool legendary weapons you might find).
Im personally playing Barbarian and any martial class in that line of thinking will work really well. Im trying out 2-3 levels of Paladin on mine for Lay On Hands healing and Divine Smites on critical hits, as well as the extra dialogue and its pretty decent in having the ability to really pump out damage when I have to.
Looking to just get as much damage
For the most consistent damage, max out STR and rush the Tavern Brawler feat, and throw weapons with the Thrown tag (daggers, handaxe, spears, etc.) There's an auto returning pike in the middle of act 1, you can easily google where to find it. Put on any gear that increases your damage with throwing attacks.
Otherwise if you just want to melee attack, rush the the Great Weapon Master feat.
and as many attacks per turn I can for maximum bonks
Go Barbarian level 5 and take the Berserker subclass, then go 3 levels in Rogue and take the Thief subclass. This gives you an extra bonus action each turn, which you can use for another attack when raging. You can round out the build with something like Beserker 6 (extra rage charge), Thief 4 (for a feat or ASI), and Fighter 2 (for Action Surge for more attacks).
I've been doing this and it is so fucking funny. Especially if you max out strength and use the enemy as projectiles.
Is there a reason not to use the Illich if persuasion checks bg3
have a look at https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Barbarian
To see what barbarians get at which level.
They are a really front loaded class, especially the berserker which is basically finished as soon as you reach level 3.
After that level you don't really get that many usefull damage features from your class imo with the exception of extra attack but you can get that from another class. What you do get are a lot of features that make you almost impossible to kill. But if you want to bonk harder it's time to multiclass.
So my recommendation is go pure berserker barbarian until you hit level 8.
At that point it's time to respec. Try out different builds like
Barbarian 3 and fighter 5 with the battle master as it gives you some variety.
Maybe give different barbarian subclasses a try.
Combine it with rogue and so on. But do play around with the respecing feature, it's a lot of fun.
what do you guys think? is it the tiger barb with fighter multiclass? if so, what gear you'd use? If not, which one do you guys think is the strongest?
so this type of build is more like a ranged barbarian right? and go wildheart for a melee barb?
This (with fighter 3 for battlemaster) is also fun for a 2H GWM barbarian!
Use the bonus actions for dash, GWM, and frenzied strike. I occasionally also use frenzied throw to throw enemies around when I can’t do any BA attacks, but I haven’t used a single throwing weapon all game. I find this a very fun barbarian build (that also provides utility via skill expertise).
Definitely TB Berserker 5/Thief 3/Battlemaster 4 like others have said.
The best melee barb imo is Barb and Warlock with either a 5/7, 6/6, or 7/5 split, or Barb 5/Lock 5/Fighter 2 for action surge.
Warlock gets you upcast Armor of Agathys, great with the damage reduction from rage and non concentration. Great Old One gets you a fear effect when critting and 3 attacks per action at base with advantage gives you 25% crit chance per turn before any crit reduction gear or extra attacks from haste/bloodlust.
The stat for item effects is CHA for barbarian, which combos nicely with CHA based attacks from Pact of Blade.
Feats would be GWM and +2 CHA to get to 22 CHA after Mirror. You could use Birthright hat for more CHA, but I think diadem of arcane synergy for another +6 dmg per hit would work better.
Barb subclass is pretty flexible, I prefer Tiger barb for the cleave attack since riders like the +10 from GWM are not halved.
I think this works better than Barb/Fighter especially because you get three attacks and don't need to rely on Elixir of Storm Giant Strength and can use Bloodlust instead. With Haste, Bloodlust, and BA attack from GWM you're looking at 10 attacks per turn.
Imo the most fun barbarian multiclass build is 8 wildheart barbarian with 4 battle master fighter
Just getting 3 feats alongside being able to stack bleed, maim, and topple an enemy all in one turn is pretty ridiculous.
You don’t really even NEED the battlemaster levels, its just for more versatility in your actions after you inflict your aoe bleed (if you do sweeping attack, you can inflict aoe maim as well in the same turn)
I like to take the gloves of belligerent skies, the boots of stormy clamor, the raging heart garb, the bonespike helmet, and then use the glaive that deals radiant damage for the extra reach on my attacks so I can maim and topple enemies and keep them too far away to actually attack me back if I don’t manage to successfully topple them from reverberations or maneuvers
Trouble with Maiming, Toppling, Reverbating and so on is that... there's no reason to do this to corpses. Enemies shouldn't really survive being near a Barb with Tiger's Bloodlust aoe attacks.
Maybe except bosses.
Multiclass to Warlock for 3rd baseline attack, maybe also get Action Surge from Fighrter 2, buffed attack up to 10 times per round, cleaving up to 3 enemies with each... Few mob hordes should survive up to ~28 strikes in a round...
You’re doing half damage with your cleave attacks, and some ppl (like myself) play with mods to increase enemy HP in an effort to make the game harder.
When cleaving enemies, you likely won’t kill them in 2 cleave attacks unless you roll really high on your damage anyways even in vanilla because this isn’t a DPR barbarian, its a support barbarian designed for working on a team in higher hp settings
If you go with the warlock levels and fighter levels, you’ll lose out on maiming in the first place. You may have meant to take the 2 levels in fighter for action surge, but if you actually read my post, we’re already taking fighter levels. Imo, taking 5 levels in warlock IS viable if you want to use the callous glow ring for radiant damage and just run with the gloves of belligerent skies. This frees up your boots. That said, I feel that being able to avoid the warlock subclass in the event that the 3 attacks DO get patched out is a safer way to play until we have confirmation of whether or not it is intentional.
wouldnt in that case 8 wildheart barb 4 battlemaster be better since the extra attacks dont stack? or is there something else to 5-6 fighter? (since the third feat is gotten with 8 barb as well)
You’ll give up a perk (like GWM) and lose flexibility.
Definitely if you want to just throw, adding 2 fighter is great, but I liked melee +’thrower as hybrid. Plus, barbarians go BONK
For the rings I like the ring of absolute force and the ring of spiteful thunder, but they’re not necessary to the build. As for the amulet, there isn’t one that’s necessary for the build, so you could really go with anything
Yup, and the 3rd feat isn’t that useful, and barbs pseudo half feat on 7 is okay, but two extra throws each fight is way better.
I’d actually just go 5/4/3, and get battle master maneuvers, toss a riposte each round in there
so you'd say 8 barb 4 fighter is better?
You can also do 3 elk barb instead, the rush benifits from tavern
What is your favorite barbarian multiclass build everyone should try me included that’s why I’m asking :3
For a great party face and general RP fun - bearheart barbarian/moon druid. Not OP, but I don't care :)
I love this one, great with the force conduit halberd for even more DR.
My big dumb barbarian just loved his Everburn Blade - you would have to pry it from his cold dead hands LOL.
5 berserker, 4 fighter, 3 thief
This one is a killer, was a lot of fun. I did champion fighter and I was just dishing out crits.
8 Wildheart Tiger aspect/4 Battlemaster or Thief
The two "best" barbarian builds are probably just 10 wildheart (for the 2 animal aspects, I usually pick elk heart and elk aspect at 6 for an extremely large movement buff, then go something like tiger or wolverine at 10), with 2 fighter at the end for action surge, and the throwzerker (5 berserker, 4 eldritch knight, 3 thief)
Thinking about starting a new save as a raging dwarf barbarian but don’t know if I’m going to struggle unnecessarily with the fact that using armour is discouraged
Using armor isn’t discouraged for barbarians. They have light and medium armor proficiencies, they only have issues when using heavy armor.
Going unarmored is fine too, because barbs get their constitution modifier added to their AC when not wearing armor
I'm playing dwarf barbarian right now, and I've been really enjoying it! Both Dwarf and Barbarian add some cool dialog options
Tavern brawler throwbarian is sick
It is amazing. It's great at combat and has some really cool dialogue options.
Barb, specifically berserker is the strongest class in the game until at least level 5. Nothing can compete with its raw damage, survivability and control.
Drink hill giant pots to hit 20 str for key moments, get tavern brawler level 4 for huge damage on throws. With 20 str you can throw everyone in act 1 and do insane dmg doing it. U don’t even need to throw weapons, just toss ppl at others or offf cliffs and smash them with your big weapon otherwise
I'm 100% honest, this season i want to make the game easy. I'm currently running the maxroll ww eq build, but i heard maxroll has subpar builds, so anyone has like, the strongest build rn? I mainly want to do T4 content and i got lucky enough to get a ring of starless skies.
Maxroll Beatdropper here.
The clear winner of the season is minion EQ Barb as it got damage/pushing capabilities while remaining extremely fast and easy enough to play.
Older EQ builds like WW, lunging and leapquake are still high up there but if you wanna play something new, minion/zoo barb is where it's at.
And if you hate quakes, Mighty throw is decently fun despite being macro heavy
Minion EQ build? Any chance in heck for a link? This sounds wild.
hi Beathdropper if you see this i'm tryng to get this build rolling and i am having serious fury issues. i have all the unique pieces but i dont have the runes needed is that why? what could be my issue. sometimes i stand there for what feels like ages not able to do anything waiting for cooldowns to go off and having no fury.
Hey, i was having the same issue, so I have PocTec for eq(I have no luck with rune this season), and the resource rune with the rune that gives offering when you ultimate.
Personally I’ve been having fun with Rupture barb. I know it’s not scaling that high this season, but it’s strong enough to run through T4 with just 4/12 masterworks and suboptimal gear. I still don’t even have a GA crimson. This is the most casual I’ve ever started a season but I’m a die hard barb player however was sick of EQs after last season.
Rupture is bae, the blood blisters boss power (Lilith sub) definitely helps it a lot this season
Fun little thing I learned about the minion build: when you run Undercity tributes and hit those spirit braziers to kill the adds and pickup the little light orbs, something happens that basically gives Call of the Ancients like a .01s cooldown for ~30 seconds or so.
I've been absolutely using it to flood the entire map with hundreds of ancients and it clears like locusts on crops, it's crazy. I was prepping to return to the classic Leapquake build I used last season but after discovering how good the minion build is just in the Undercity alone I'm inclined to keep playing it.
Also, secondary fact on the minion build: it's actually annoying to use on easier content where things are dying faster than your rupture can hit them to reset CotA cooldown. It's great in the pit, great in the Undercity, and pretty decent on bosses, but meh for farming once your damage is high enough to 1-shot everything out in the world on T4.
Maxroll is fine. I ran their WW/EQ build last season and it was awesome.
Barb is all about sub abilities and not barb actual core kit... which I honestly am getting bored of.
Using shoutless lunge quake with rupture and the rune that give more ranks to all skills while Call of the ancient is active. Feel like EQs are still very strong. It is easy to farm with and If I won’t be able to clear pit 100 with it once upgraded I’ll have enough gear to try something else like rupture, HoTa or double swing.
I like Bac/Wat and Xol/Tec as my runes. If you just want to speed clear T4 all you really need are those runes, about 150 paragon, your seasonal powers, and you pretty much can't fail even if you dont attack at all and just run around
In both D&D and Baldur's Gate 3 I feel effective and familiar with the Barbarian class. I absolutely hate keeping up with spell lists at D&D, perhaps the only spellcaster I would go out of my way to play is probably Bard.
But I'm curious, send me your best Barbarian builds! What did you multiclass it with? What equipment did you equip them? What subclasses did you choose?
(P.S I meant to click the Barbarian tag, my bad 😭)
Half orc, Barb 9 Tigerheart/wolverine, Assassin 3… (Double brutal crits). dex gwm using any of the versatile finesse weapons or Dancing Breeze.
Fun guerrilla style fighting, Big alpha damage.
You can go with Thief for more bonus action attacks on crit or kill.
This is cool
Going Githyanki Wildheart Barbarian to wield the Silver Sword of the Astral Plane feels so satisfying.
If you choose the bear aspect, you gain resistance to every damage type except psychic while raging.
The Silver Sword gives Githyanki resistance to psychic. So now you’re able to be one of the tankiest frontliners in the game while also dealing incredible damage.
Normally, you can’t get that weapon until act three, but you can actually have Voss drop it in act one if you cast command on him.
Now Lae’Zel can let out her rage against Vlaakith once and for all!
Similar vein to this, I went wildheart bear with the stallion aspect and multiclassed into thief rogue. Resistance to all damage, while also gaining 16 temp hp every turn, with an additional bonus action left for whatever you can think to use it for.
Four levels of barbarian take berserker and the tavern brawler feat. 3 levels of rogue to get the extra bonus actions from thief. Put the rest in whatever you feel like. For a weapon, literally anything you can pick up. My personal favorite, hitting bad guys with other smaller bad guys.
I had a lot of fun with Eagle Heart on my first playthrough. It's far from the strongest but really fun. You can dash as bonus action, with fleet fingers gloves you get a free jump action (to reach high places) and then diving strike onto the enemy.
As a fellow eagle heart player, surely you know of the righteous glory that is two crates?
FROM THE TOP ROPE
my fav barbarian build is the typical wildheart with tiger&wolverine aspects. it’s very powerful, which may get boring fast (for some!), but it’s the only reliable and consistent source the bleed condition applied to your enemies
what u guys think
Personally I'm a Sussur Greatsword enjoyer. Something about a Barbarian hitting casters so hard they can no long cast spells just FEELS right.
This is what makes me sad that my throwing build karlach can't do the same with the sussur dagger.
for some reason, the dagger doesn't silence specifically when thrown.
My Karlach has clutched a lot of fights due to her shutting down an enemy castor before things got out of hand
I feel like Sussr is great for the maim builds. CC galore.
That’s every martial characters best spec
Try using "The Sparkle hands" instead. It procs on thrown as well. Giving you some insane benefits (lots of lightning charges - it feels like it double procs often - and advantage against stuff in metal armor). My karlach has been insane since she got those. Throwing enemies is fun too fcause .-P
Returning Pike, caustic ring, thrower ring, tavern brawler feat. It's filthy
That's what I did. Was frenzy barb, so that was 3 throws a turn. I really should have turned up the difficulty to make things fair. The computer just couldn't handle it
Unleash your inner great ape by taking tavern brawler and aspect of the chimp. Fling food at enemies to blind them. I still need to try rotten tomatoes and rotten cheese to see if they count. They can technically be eaten, but not used at resting. So, maybe?
If your str 20+ then most humanoid is good weapon.
Casting command drop weapon on the gith dragon rider in act 1 with some save scumming is the true min maxers answer.
Honestly barbarian does more damage with throw damage with returning pike and throw damage modifier ring and tavern brawler at level 4
This took me over 30+ hours to make, hope you all enjoy it! I really tried to make it easy for even a absolute newbie to the game to be able to enjoy it, and I tried to cover all major topics and be as helpful as possible all the way through ACT 1. Please note there will be minor spoilers. Let me know how I did and if possible toss the video a like 👍🏻 if you think 🤔 it’s anything worth a 💩. Hope you enjoy! 😂
Very nice video. I saw the runtime and was kinda discouraged but its very engaging. Thanks!
I really am glad you like it. I know my videos tend to be much longer then other YouTubers currently, I’m almost 32 so I’m a bit old school in that I try to really explain each step in case this game is someone’s first entry into the genre. I’m super happy you gave me a chance and thank you so much for that opportunity♥️
I am 35. I feel that way about a lot of stuff I do too. I do not mind longer content as long as its substanitive. You have most assuredly done that.
Over 130 hours now and I've not been beyond level 5 or the underdark - this comp is giving me renewed enthusiasm to start fresh and break the barrier !
I got Wyll and Karlach now before even starting on Withers, and I'm pretty much level 4 and about to hit the first (blighted?) village with goblins.
Killing both the mindflayer and demon dude for 150 exp was a nice boost to begin.
Totally agree dude, as a content creator I feel you so so much! I have no idea how people have finished the game already 😂. Hope you enjoyed the video and please consider subscribing and liking the video, it makes a world of difference!
Just subbed no idea why but I think your voice is dope
So quick question barbarian is the last class I’m going to play through EA with before going dark till August.
So before I create one I’d like to know is it possible to create a “Diablo” type barbarian by that I mean Dual wielding 2 great swords or is that not possible in the rule set
Important to note that a berserker with reckless attack is tailor made for wielding a great sword or great axe with Great weapon master. You’ll hit like a truck with pretty high frequency if you go that route. I haven’t really seen any dual wield setup outdamage a two hander yet.
I think a wildheart dex barbarian with the lightning damage weapons and wet condition maybe comes close, but is way more work than just going berserker with everburn blade or something similair.
Berserk with everburn and the gloves that set people on fire when they take fire damage is pretty op.
Great swords no.
Long swords yes.
Yeah have to take the dual wielding feat at level 4. This will allow you to dual wield weapons that are not 'Light'.
But you still cannot dual wield weapons that are 'Heavy'.
Thank you both for the replies see you all in august
Hey guys just wondering what your favorite barbarian build is? I don’t really play barbarian but on my current playthrough I wanted to try it out and after seeing what the berserker gets through all the lvls I decided I’m gonna do 6 barbarian/3 champion fighter/3 thief rogue. Just because the fear ability I get at lvl 10 barbarian doesn’t really seem like it would be that good for a main action ability. I know barbarians get a bonus to ac if I don’t do armor but honestly I really like how certain heavy armors look so I’m gonna go for the hell dusk armor set with the giant slayer greatsword
10 path of Giant Barb 2 fighter for action surge Tavern brawler STR + 1 ASI STR + 2
20 naturally, get drow in moonrise to bite Astarion, get potion of vigor for + 2 STR
Mirror of Loss for +2 STR.
24 STR, throwing literally everything, weapons at enemies, enemies off cliffs, enemies at other enemies.
I was literally beating a Death Shepard yesterday with a Winged Horror as my improvised melee weapon.
My favorite is still probably the reverberation tiger barb
Yup I second this. Just used it on my last run 10 barb 2 fighter get the boots of stormy clamor, nyrulna, drake throat glaive and just cleave everyone
Hey, just want to be clear on a few specific things:
•The AC bonus Barbarians get is for not using any armor at all.
•Barbarians do not get Heavy Armor Proficiency. Fighter does, but not if you multiclass into it - you'll have to start Fighter 1 for HA proficiency.
•Wearing Heavy Armor means you can't Rage, which is the single defining feature for Barbarians. Using Helldusk, regardless of how cool it looks, is going to utterly neuter your character. It'd be akin to playing a Sorceror without Metamagic or a Paladin without Smite.
> Wearing Heavy Armor means you can't Rage
Yes, you can. You also get any non-base rage benefits from subclasses. The only things lost are the base physical damage bonus and the base physical resistances.
Bear still gives you all resistances including a copy of physicals, berserker still gives bonus action throw and melee attack, giant still makes you giant and still gives you cleaver.
Rage 95% works in heavy armor in BG3.
Heavy armor master + skin burster bear barbarian in adamantine splint is a classic shenanigans build. 5 physical DR after resist - you can even run a retaliation build on this with armor of agathys.
This. This is very important, and people act like 2 damage on their melee attacks is the end of the world.
Ah damn so the rage just won’t activate if I wear heavy armor? That’s sucks but thanks for letting me know, you’re the first to say that
You can rage, but you don't get any of the bonuses from doing so. However, if you choose the Bear Heart, you still gain resistance to all damage but Psychic, but you don't get the extra damage.
Honestly, my favourite barbarian build aside form the standard throwzerker has been my warlock/barbarian built around armour of agathys, resistances and damage reduction. They hit you, they get smacked, you hit them, they get smacked. It’s really fun.
Throw on a fire shield and a slayer form, and you got my favorite evil playthrough build.
Skinburster + Bear Totem + stacking DR items is hilarious and fun.
it's actually coded as clothing, not armor, in order to grant all characters proficiency. So actually helldusk on a barb is perfect
I have been playing around with most of the classes, testing their builds and came with few I think are among the best ones. If you have your own favorite builds or think other builds might be better let me know :D. I have not tested Monk or Berserker yet, so I do not know about them. My best builds list:
Overall all the classes are extremely well balanced providing tons of different combinations :D. Tho there are some subclasses that felt weak for me. I think Wisdom / Spellcasting Cleric is a bit lackluster, the buffs are nice, but you have concentration issues, damage is not great and you do not need too many healing spells anyway. Ranger with Pet is also a bit weak compared to other classes I feel, its super fun for RP, other its subclasses are ok but fighting is kinda off for the pet one :D. Have not tried monks or barbs yet, but all else feels really good still. I think Fighter (2 lvls) and Wizard (1 lvl) are the best small additions for the most of the builds.
Any ideas on other good builds? Which are yours favorite builds?
9 open hand monk/ 3 thief. Tavern brawler. Max strength instead of dex.2 attacks and 2 bonus actions for flurry of blows. Extra damage added in. So many items buff unarmed attacks. Control with stagger, push, stun. Thrown weapon dmg if you somehow arent in range to melee. My minsc was broken with this build.
I am trying this on my second playthrough :D. I saw so many 'unarmed' items throughout the game, but had no time to check monks yet
Its so good. Add in the spear that returns on a throw...my god he cleared out 3 or more enemies a turn sometimes
What's the set up/gear for Cleric/Figther/wiz1?
How are you mixing the classes like this? From what I'm understanding you're char playing sometimes 3 dif accesses and still having all of the skills?
I believe you must be on Tactician difficulty in order to multi class though. If you have Withers at your camp you can reset your levels and build from level 1 again.
When your character levels you have the option to continue upgrading that class or choose to adopt another class in addition (options shown on the bottom screen). Multiplayer may have exceptions on multiclassing.
Ty ty!
Context: bg3 was my first turn based game I played. I had no clue what the game was about other than it was dnd based, so instead of trying to play like what I thought most people would play, I went with my gut: barbarian, grabbed the weapon that looked like it had the highest damage, and smashed everything I saw. It was a blast. Recently I upgraded to a desktop and am likely to get it on there too. I don’t have much desire to get super far into the game, but I do enjoy it enough to want to go another playthrough on there. I liked the big damage build I used but wanted to find something a little different. Are there any out there that are very brain dead and just consist of me either just smashing til someone drops, or has minimal buffs and takes little brainpower? Trying to stay very casual with this unless I really get into it.
Barbarian (Berserker or Wildheart) Fighter (Champion or Battle Master), Paladin (you just spam Divine Smites), Druid and just use the tankiest, biggest animal form. For melee classes, grab Great Weapon Master for +10 damage but -5 roll to your attack chance. Works well on Barbarians with Reckless Attacks and/or if you have someone to cast Bless on you.
Giant barbarian is the ultimate smash class. You can stack elixir of the colossus with your giant rage to become huge, then you throw everyone off the edge of whatever, and kick people to death. If you're not in range, you use giant cleaver to give your weapon return, and throw it at the enemy. The heavier the weapon, the more damage it does when thrown downward. Add two levels of fighter for action surge, and you can throw 4 people in one turn, and kick another. Each thrown person is prone, so they spend most of their action getting up. The kick also acts like an improved shove, so it's possible to send people to their doom with it. When you're huge, you can kick a minotaur off a cliff.
It's so powerful, I've been playing a solo durge murder spree run, and I haven't run into any problems so far. I just killed the last light inn by tossing all the harpers off the bridge.
You can stack three levels of enlarge, using mods (not sure you can in vanilla, because they overwrite by default) to go from medium to large, large to huge, and huge to Gargantuan - you weigh more than the nautiloid (though you don't appear that size). You can technically stack more increases I think, but they have no effect visually. You can do the same with reduce and become tiny, but it's only two stacks
All the fighters. With ranged weapon or with a melee. Just go fighter 12 and you will do crazy damage without any thought
Bear totem barbarian let's you tank absolutely absurd amounts of damage. I yeet into the middle of any fight and always come out on top
i played in season one, recently picked it back up these last few days, been really enjoying it.
just wondering what the overall best barbarian builds are? i have a good amount of uniques for different builds i struggle more with boss fights if anything links would be appreciated as well. i dont have the DLC so builds that dont require runes are best!
How’s this coming along? Find anything?
i did, minion barb has been very good for me, can solo bosses with ease too. did the grind to get the best pieces for it too so i’m in a good spot, might try out mighty throw barb too soon though
The top builds (minions) just use runes to increase damage and pull in monsters for better damage. So a build without is the same just without the damage bonus.
Most are going to require runes to be “complete” but I think your best bet is a minion build, probably WW
They are fairly powerful without the runes. I didn’t buy the expansion until T3
No builds “requires” runes, runes are just extra dps or defensive. All builds are unique affix/legendary affix dependant.
i looked into a build recently that required runes to spawn earthquakes, the whole bases of it was generating fury from earthquakes so i essentially had to tweak it myself. that’s why i said that
Then play dust devil which is the old version of ww.
You'll find that almost all guides out there are specific both current season, and VoH expansion. So you won't find hardly any guides for Eternal and/or base game.
Are you playing seasonal? If so, my guess is probably Minion EQ is the best build. It gets the huge 150%[x] multiplier from the Beastmaster's Training boss power, and doesn't require any runes since the earthquakes come from Call of the Ancients while using the Arreat's Bearing pants.
do you have a link for that?
https://maxroll.gg/d4/build-guides/minion-barbarian-guide
just ignore all the VoH-specific stuff (just runes + mercenaries I believe).
2024 rules? Berserker barbarian with greatsword for graze weapon mastery and you are the #1 single target damage dealer for most of the game. Depends a bit to which level you go.
As a pure Barbarian, it's a bit tough, you have to pick a subclass that boosts your damage, or gives you abilities to use.
Oddly enough, mixing in some Rogue can work surprisingly well, because your Reckless Attack gives you free sneak attack.
As others have mentioned, your party can help somewhat, but magical weapons and such are really your best source of stacking damage.
Ultimately, it's a bit tougher to rack up damage, as Barbarian really shines as being an HP sponge, by getting stuck in, raging, and keeping the enemies where you want them.
Think of yourself as one half of a tag-team, where you help set up opportunities for the glass cannons classes to unleash their fury from safety.
If you want some really abusive combos, look into feats like Sentinel and maybe Polearm Master, where you can use your weapons to really control the battlefield and prevent enemies from moving around.
Use your rage and rage abilities
Pick right weapons
Try to pick feats based on your combat style
Ask your teammates if they can help you insome way
2024 rules? Berserker barbarian with greatsword for graze weapon mastery and you are the #1 single target damage dealer for most of the game. Depends a bit to which level you go.
And when and with what class to multiclass him?
Thief/berserker work well, you get 2 expertises, use one for athletics for better enraged throw, i used the other for persuasion because its gosh darn useful, two bonus actions, so you can turn one rage and frenzied strike along with 2 attacks, and attack twice, frenzied strike and enraged throw on following rounds. You can generate adv for sneak attack with reckless attack. And you don't have to go with great weapon fighter to deal good DMG, just focus str. Fighter is a bit too bigger down relying on action surge to deal DMG, rogue/barb is more consistent. I'd suggest 1barb/1rogue/4barb/3rogue/3barb as you level up.
Multiclassing barbarians only after lvl 5,because they get their 2nd attack then.
As for subclasses:
Totem warrior bear is best defensively, by a mile.
Berserker has the greatest damage potential.
Wild magic has the best out of combat utility (can restore your parties spell slots and give another guidance-like effect that stacks with actual guidance)
Berserker has access to Enraged Throw
It's one of the most versatile skills in the game - you can do your regular attack slams and then unleash shenanigans every turn.
Bad guy out of reach, and you spent your attacks firing your bow/xbow? Spend a bonus action to hoik an axe in their face as well.
Just killed one bad guy, but don't have enough movement to get to the next one? Pick up his corpse, yeet it into the next target. Doesn't even have to be dead, if I'm fighting hordes of skeletons, goblins or other lightweight enemies I am spending every single turn hitting a motherfucker with another motherfucker.
Big cluster of enemies? Take out your stashed Smokepowder barrel and dunk it into the crowd, dip your xbow in a candle, fire it into the smokepowder.
For multiclass, you very much want 2 levels of Fighter after you hit 5 on Barb (and get Extra Attack). Action Surge is absolutely GOAT.
How much is the enraged throw on the Berserker? As for the Frenzy bonus action attack, wouldn't the best thing be to go three levels of Rogue/Thief for the second bonus action to hit 4 times a turn standard?
If you have the levels to spare sure
You want to dip Fighter 2 for Action Surge first though
"Doesn't even have to be dead, if I'm fighting hordes of skeletons, goblins or other lightweight enemies I am spending every single turn hitting a motherfucker with another motherfucker."
Made me laugh hard.
i read that in samuel l jackson voice. hahaha
Whelp, fuckin' sold on zerker now.. hahah
Defense: bear wild heart
Damage: berserker
You pick what you want more
IMO The best build atm is:
Half Orc 17 STR 16 CON 14 DEX
Barb to 5
Take Berserker at 3
Take Tavern Brawler + 18 STR at 4
Get extra attack at 5
Multi to Fighter to 3
Rest in Barb or Rogue.
You throw powerful weapons 3 times a turn + have Action Surge + high crit potential. Tavern Brawler is 100% the most broken Feat in the game right now.
So I'm fairly new to Barbarian, and just came back from a long break from Diablo.

What's the best set/build for Barbarians? A link to a good build would be nice :)
WW set got a buff to Rend, so Rend does all the dmg now and it's OP. Here is a good overview of both speed + push variants: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umZ-CY1yO7c
(build links in video description)
But he hasn't got Rend selected, hmm. How does this work? lol
For torment farming it's not as important, but to maximize your damage you do want to select rend on your bar so that Ambo's will apply your chosen rune. If you don't have rend on your skill bar then it will only apply a basic rend. Bloodbath is the rune of choice, since it can essentially double your damage whenever nearby monsters die (similar to area damage). Lacerate can be used for speed farming as it has a higher initial damage, but it does not jump to other targets.
Nvm I'm blind. It's Kanais power.
I recently got addicted to diablo 3 cause of my partner. We've been no lifing the game and now at paragon level 300+. I'm playing a barbarian, and employing a bash + spear throw build combined with the raekor set among other things that improve the build. However, I reached a point in endgame high torment levels or high greater rift levels where basically I am at a point where I can one shot every enemy but every enemy can also one shot me. So it's become a race between every enemy who can kill who first, doesn't feel skill based anymore. Altho my build feels like it's maxed out. Is this normal for endgame, or is my build not good enough? Would love to try other builds, suggestions are appreciated!
Maxroll.gg has build guides for all classes, including Barbarian.
Or if you prefer reading, and like playing Raekor, here is another guide: https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/d3/t/guide-raekor-ancient-spear/50370
Do you use the build guides on Maxroll? If not, try that first. Barb Guides Otherwise Barbs are absolutely able to do lvl 150 grifts, but you need the gear, paragon and skills. In the upcoming season 27 Hota Barb will be quite strong. Barbs are also fantastic as Supports.
I have a Ground Stomping, Avalanche Causing, Call Of The Ancients Summoning, Whirlwind Causing, War Crying Badass build.

Whirlrend barbarian
Barb has a ton of awesome builds that are both easy to play and strong. Try the maxroll guides for Raekor, Leapquake (though I recommend wielding the Mighty Weapon w/ a life-per-fury-spent roll), and Whirlrend will all see you in good stead.
Hello all,
Looking for suggestions for some fun barbarian sets to aim for. I'm paragon level 220, I have 4/6 wastes set, Bul-Kathos weapon set and lamentation so I'm aiming for a WW Rend build but unsure what other pieces I need to optimise to push some GRs and speedfarming.
Any suggestions?
Cheers!
Waste set with bul Kathos, the lightning legendary gem that lets you run faster and nemesis bracers in the cube is the first build to aim for. It is the fastest way to level gems for augmentation. Then go for finding the sword set that gives boosted dps when you are ready to start grinding higher.
The wastes set is probably the best all around build for barb. For guides you can use https://www.icy-veins.com/d3/, https://www.diablofans.com/builds or just do a quick search on youtube.
Other interesting builds to try out are in my opinion:
- Frenzy + Horde of the Ninety Savages Set
- Seismic Slam or Earthquake + Might of the Earth Set
- Hammer of the Ancients + Immortal King Set
WW seems like the best build for most situations, but bouncing around as Captain Earthquake using the might of the Earth set might be the most entertaining gear set in the game.

Recommendation: A Half-Orc Berserker build focusing on high Strength and Constitution will maximize your damage output and survivability. Equip a greataxe for maximum damage, and consider taking the Great Weapon Master feat to further enhance your offensive capabilities. This build excels in melee combat, making you a formidable frontline warrior.
