TL;DR
Minion Earthquake Build
The Minion EQ Barbarian build is a standout choice for those looking to maximize damage and efficiency. This build utilizes Call of the Ancients combined with unique gear like Arreat's Bearing pants to create powerful earthquakes without relying on runes [1:6]. It has been praised for its ability to clear maps quickly, especially in areas like the Undercity where spirit braziers can dramatically reduce cooldowns
[2:5]. The build remains effective even without expansion-specific runes, making it accessible for players without DLC
[1:4].
Hammer of the Ancients (HotA) Build
The HotA build is favored for its straightforward approach to dealing high damage. It is particularly effective for progressing through higher difficulty levels like World Tier 4 [5:1]. Players recommend focusing on aspects that enhance fury generation and reduce cooldowns, such as those related to shouts
[5:2]. This build is less reliant on gear compared to others, allowing players to succeed even if their equipment isn't optimal.
Rend and Bleed Builds
Rend builds focus on sustained damage over time through bleeding effects and are recommended for leveling and early game progression [5:5]. These builds often incorporate skills like Flay, Rend, and Iron Skin to maintain survivability while dealing consistent damage
[4:1]
[4:2]. While not as dominant in late-game content, Rend and bleed builds provide a solid foundation for transitioning into more powerful setups like HotA.
Whirlwind and Other Variants
While Whirlwind (WW) builds were popular in previous seasons, they have seen a decline due to nerfs [4:5]. However, variants such as Lucky Hit Chance WW and Dust Devil offer alternative playstyles for those who enjoy the whirlwind mechanic
[3:3]
[1:9]. Mighty Throw is another option for players seeking a fun but macro-heavy experience
[2:2].
Considerations Beyond the Discussions
When choosing a Barbarian build, it's important to consider your personal playstyle preferences and the type of content you wish to tackle. Experimenting with different builds during the campaign can help identify which setups feel most comfortable and enjoyable. Additionally, consulting tier lists and guides from reputable sources like Maxroll can provide further insights into current meta trends [5:4].
i played in season one, recently picked it back up these last few days, been really enjoying it.
just wondering what the overall best barbarian builds are? i have a good amount of uniques for different builds i struggle more with boss fights if anything links would be appreciated as well. i dont have the DLC so builds that dont require runes are best!
No builds “requires” runes, runes are just extra dps or defensive. All builds are unique affix/legendary affix dependant.
i looked into a build recently that required runes to spawn earthquakes, the whole bases of it was generating fury from earthquakes so i essentially had to tweak it myself. that’s why i said that
Then play dust devil which is the old version of ww.
The top builds (minions) just use runes to increase damage and pull in monsters for better damage. So a build without is the same just without the damage bonus.
Most are going to require runes to be “complete” but I think your best bet is a minion build, probably WW
They are fairly powerful without the runes. I didn’t buy the expansion until T3
How’s this coming along? Find anything?
i did, minion barb has been very good for me, can solo bosses with ease too. did the grind to get the best pieces for it too so i’m in a good spot, might try out mighty throw barb too soon though
You'll find that almost all guides out there are specific both current season, and VoH expansion. So you won't find hardly any guides for Eternal and/or base game.
Are you playing seasonal? If so, my guess is probably Minion EQ is the best build. It gets the huge 150%[x] multiplier from the Beastmaster's Training boss power, and doesn't require any runes since the earthquakes come from Call of the Ancients while using the Arreat's Bearing pants.
do you have a link for that?
https://maxroll.gg/d4/build-guides/minion-barbarian-guide
just ignore all the VoH-specific stuff (just runes + mercenaries I believe).
I'm 100% honest, this season i want to make the game easy. I'm currently running the maxroll ww eq build, but i heard maxroll has subpar builds, so anyone has like, the strongest build rn? I mainly want to do T4 content and i got lucky enough to get a ring of starless skies.
Maxroll Beatdropper here.
The clear winner of the season is minion EQ Barb as it got damage/pushing capabilities while remaining extremely fast and easy enough to play.
Older EQ builds like WW, lunging and leapquake are still high up there but if you wanna play something new, minion/zoo barb is where it's at.
And if you hate quakes, Mighty throw is decently fun despite being macro heavy
Personally I’ve been having fun with Rupture barb. I know it’s not scaling that high this season, but it’s strong enough to run through T4 with just 4/12 masterworks and suboptimal gear. I still don’t even have a GA crimson. This is the most casual I’ve ever started a season but I’m a die hard barb player however was sick of EQs after last season.
Rupture is bae, the blood blisters boss power (Lilith sub) definitely helps it a lot this season
Fun little thing I learned about the minion build: when you run Undercity tributes and hit those spirit braziers to kill the adds and pickup the little light orbs, something happens that basically gives Call of the Ancients like a .01s cooldown for ~30 seconds or so.
I've been absolutely using it to flood the entire map with hundreds of ancients and it clears like locusts on crops, it's crazy. I was prepping to return to the classic Leapquake build I used last season but after discovering how good the minion build is just in the Undercity alone I'm inclined to keep playing it.
Also, secondary fact on the minion build: it's actually annoying to use on easier content where things are dying faster than your rupture can hit them to reset CotA cooldown. It's great in the pit, great in the Undercity, and pretty decent on bosses, but meh for farming once your damage is high enough to 1-shot everything out in the world on T4.
hi Beathdropper if you see this i'm tryng to get this build rolling and i am having serious fury issues. i have all the unique pieces but i dont have the runes needed is that why? what could be my issue. sometimes i stand there for what feels like ages not able to do anything waiting for cooldowns to go off and having no fury.
Hey, i was having the same issue, so I have PocTec for eq(I have no luck with rune this season), and the resource rune with the rune that gives offering when you ultimate.
Which version of it are you running ? (Ancestral ,mythic, boss killing etc)
If you need to contact me, you can ping me on the maxroll discord, might be easier :)
Minion EQ build? Any chance in heck for a link? This sounds wild.
I like Bac/Wat and Xol/Tec as my runes. If you just want to speed clear T4 all you really need are those runes, about 150 paragon, your seasonal powers, and you pretty much can't fail even if you dont attack at all and just run around
Maxroll is fine. I ran their WW/EQ build last season and it was awesome.
Barb is all about sub abilities and not barb actual core kit... which I honestly am getting bored of.
A good barb ww, bleed build for t4? I been having problem for dmg amd looking for advise

I have been enjoying Lucky Hit Chance WW build. Fists of Fate plus Lucky Chance on Hit to do damage. Works really well.
I'm currently building a ww bleed barb and can leave you maxroll.gg link as soon as I'm back on pc, right now it's working well for t3 and it's still wip
Will add a Pre-Mythic Version to it
I'm not sure that exists this season.
Currently enjoying my Barbarian a lot. Been trying to find different builds for it, so I'm interest in what's yours?!
Lunging Strike (maxed out with bleeding option) Rend (maxed out with fury gen) Iron Skin (maxed out with heal option) Challenging Strike (maxed out with fury gen) Death Blow (maxed out with fury gen) Call of the Ancients (maxed out) Gushing Wounds
Passives Imposing Presence and Martial Vigor Heavy Handed and Brute Force Thick Skin and Counteroffensive
Foundation of this build is focused on keeping you alive with Iron Skin and Challenging Shout. You’ll rarely need to use a healing potion.
Offensively, you’ll do plenty of damage with Lunging Strike, Rend,Death Blow, and CoTA
Up to level 40 and this build never fails. I’m sure I’ll continue to tinker with the build as I level up.
I'm only level 23 and I'm new to the diablo series but I've been running:
Combat Frenzy, Furious Upheaval, Tactical Iron Skin, Mighty Kick, Power Leap, Fighter's Death Blow with Imposing Presence and Swiftness.
I have no clue if it will be viable with endgame stuff but I don't care lol I'm having a blast kicking, slashing and leaping in and out of combat. Like some one had commented before, I want to find out if my build can be viable later on with the help from gear and what not.
I want to do a stomp, leap, hota and chain built, stomp apllies earthquake, hota with range and chain with more chains and slow on it
Was going for whirlwind but switched to hota after the nerf, managed to do the nightmare capstone dungeon 1st try no deaths at lvl 49 right after finishing the campaign. I'm liking it so far.
Also the unique that recoups resource if the skill hits 5 enemies is fantastic, as long as you clump mobs together and either have the shout on or berserking it's unli hotas lol
Flay, rend, iron skin, war cry, death blow and wrath of the berserker
Haven't hit paragon yet but I've settled into this as the core, rend does amazing and death blow gives great fury generation and burst boss dps to help it along
It's a work in progress ATM but it seems solid
What the best build I just started and have no clue
Thorns/Hota but i hate how whirlwind plays. i can do nm 50s easily at level 78 and my gear is far from perfect but it isn’t the “best” build. i just stack as much damage reduction and armor % as possible, max life is good too and you need strength. be watching for an aspect that says something along the lines of “reduces the cooldown of your shouts by 1.0 - 1.9 sec for every enemy nearby up to 6 sec” and also “gain 1-4 fury each second your shouts are active” those are the two most rare barbarian aspects and they are crucial for your class so get started early looking for them. pretty fun in PvP too the only class you need to fear is a druid.
Whichever build you have fun with.
I enjoy Hammer of the Ancients.
Bonk
The class is extremely gear dependent, so it doesn't matter what you pick honestly, but if you want something that will get you all the way to wt4, regardless if you do or do not have good gear, you want to go with a hammer of the ancients or rend build.
What would you say is the best class then
If you are chasing the meta, you can find tier lists on Maxroll.
I've only played Barb and Sorc so far. Barb is kind of rough early on and gets better as you go. Sorc is the opposite. It's good during leveling and kind of falls off later on.
From what I know on the other classes:
Rogue is very good all around and is what I plan to run in season 1. Druid is quite gear dependent, but is very good if you have the gear. Necro has a broken OP build, but is otherwise not in a good place.
Hands down the rogue is the best class in the game.
Thorns and Bleed a nice for Leveling and ez to play.
For WT4 just try out the HotA Build.
During campaign, just experiment especially for your first few levels.
I used HotA early on and transitioned to Rend to finish the campaign.
My very first character in Diablo 4 pre-season was Barb.
I’m 28 now, and hadn’t played a Diablo game since Diablo 2 when I was like 10 years old. Since launch, I’ve played S2, S4, S5, S8, and now S9.
I always started the season on a Barb, until S5 when I took the full plunge on a Druid.
Just now returning to Barb 5 seasons later, about level 35 now. I decided to plan out a build since I’m Paragon 260 from playing my main. I want to play a Third Blade build using Death Blow. Sounds super fun. As I’m looking through the Paragon boards on Maxroll, I’m realizing that nearly all of the Legendary Nodes are garbage! There are maybe 2-3 good ones, the rest are very marginal and uninteractive stat increases. 15% attack speed here, 15% crit chance there.
What’s the deal? Druid, Sorc, and Necro (Necro suffers a bit too ngl) all have pretty damn good Legendary Nodes. What gives with Barbarian?
Barbarian has the option for 7 offensive aspects more than any class. Force of Nature and Decimator were the two broken legendary nodes that were busted on Barb but required you to hit caps on dmg while berserking and vs close enemies and locked him into one type of build, i.e EQ. They removed these cap requirements and nerfed their damage. Now almost all barbarian build are centered around having mythics and max rolled Ramaladni to scale off the max resource which you get from paragon nodes and tempers.
Barbarian legendary nodes (and arguably some of the boards themselves) are a little underwhelming compared to some other classes, but “trash” overstates it.
Druid sorc and necro get the equivalent of 2 weapon aspect slots.
Barb gets 6. Comparing only pieces of a class without considering the whole is pointless.
You sound like a sorc. Not like a barb. Maybe that is the problem.
"Skinny magic man say too much word. Should try lifting sword. Is good workout."
I have rolled 3 characters in Diablo 4 - Druid, Barb, and Necro. For a while my Barb was my worst one. In S9, I decided to just make him strong enough to do Torment 4 content with a Lunging Strike build. He is now my strongest character. Stronger than my seasonal Minion necro.
I think having 4 weapons provides a lot of options to make you stronger, as D-cyde pointed out. My paragon board is decidedly defensive because my only concern was staying alive.
Just getting back into the swing of things from a 2 year long break since I last played this game. I mainly play barbarian but im curious how he stands compared against the others this season. Also any build recommendations because I mainly run two handed, potion chugger, axe specialist, iron will.
Barbarian is in the same spot as always been in with some decent buffs with with this new season. Below is my opinion on how it fares against each class in a solo standpoint. In duos and trios it still does his job as the class with a lot of HP and that can f*** you up.
Fighter: Slayer fighter is a toss-up matchup where if you can outdamage them before they hit you too many times you'll win but it's very scary. Their attack speed is very oppressive and can feel like a swarm of swords hitting you simple as that.
Tank fighter with running taunt has such a high PDR value that it makes it where it's uncomfortable fighting them because of all the extra tankiness they have as a barren you may not have much armor pen. It's doable but you'll notice it if they're holding a long sword and defensive stance and them not dying as you hit them and then finally them two tapping you with a parry. Winnable just unfun in a sense.
Rogue: double jump rogue is a very hard counter to barbarian in my opinion as they are jumping above your head hitting you in the head while you're hitting their feet and legs. Even with weapons like the bardish, You still have a very annoying fight ahead of you if you see one and with poison weapon and throwing knives it doesn't get better. Again winnable just you have to try really hard to hit them when they make a mistake versus going for ape mode on them.
Warlock: with the buff to warlock you have a very interesting matchup depending on what variation you're playing against. It can just be a battle of Dodge the curse of weakness and curse of pain and blow of corruption and outdamage them.
Wizard: Unless you're playing against a very good player most wizards die from 1d4 intimidation damage when you look at them. This is different when fighting a magic staff wizard as they can shred your physical PDR and do a lot of damage.
Ranger: either they hit you with a lot of arrows and then kill you with a spear at the end of it or they mess up and you bumped them two times and you laugh as the body flops the ground.
Sorcerer: one of the easiest classes to kill his Barb as they have no way to get away from you if they make a mistake as iron will counters their entire classes counters to you running at them. Just make sure you dodge their lightning ice spell that freezes you in place and You are golden.
Bard: If they are geared and get a shriek of weakness on you then it's going to be a hard fight as you're going to be fighting debuffed otherwise you win.
Druid: 75/25 match up in your favor most of the times you can hit them while they're in bear or catch them when they try to dash at you with panther. But those very few times you will be putting a bad spot and it will get you killed by bear headshot or panther swipes.
Barbarian: whoever playsmarter or if it hits harder wins simple as that.
Cleric: If they have smite and divine protection it can be a very hard fight as they do a lot of damage and are very tanky otherwise you should be able to outspace them and do more damage to them just watch their cooldowns.
Missing a few key points. Ironwill against sorc does not protect you against their levitate combo which can let them get a free frost lightning into eruption/flame strike or elemental bolt. Any good sorc knows this and will change their entire approach once they ironwill check you with wind blast.
Unless they changed something you can't be levitated as barb with iron will. Been on the receiving in of a barb not giving a fuck when I tried it and I know I didn't miss it.
A very thorough reply, you didn't have to go the extra mile but you did and I respect that.
This game is hard as it is. I try and help anyone who asks for it. So I'm happy to help.
I've been experimenting with barbs new perk buffs this season. For those that are unaware, Treacherous Lunga got a buff. Now it makes shouts last 50% longer and reduces the cooldown by 10 seconds. That means War Cry (25% extra max health) now lasts 20 seconds. With a squire kit barb that means you only have a 7ish second cool down. I've been running Rage with warcry, so I get 12 seconds of rage as well. 150 HP barb using both abilities gets you to about 200hp.
I've ran this with CD reduction gear and made it so I can almost have war cry up 24/7. With gear+rage and war cry I'm running around with 230 hp a majority of the time.
This build is great for classes that want to face tank you, not so good for the ones that want to kite. I haven't had the chance to run this in duos or trios but I'd imagine it would be great.
One last thing, War sacrifice+Blood exchange is another interesting combo. War sacrifice now gives +8 all attributes. Which is a lot of HP, move speed and action speed. The health lost is only 1% over 8 seconds. Which can be completely negated if you drink a potion with potion chugger before using the ability. WC and BE together give 25%ish action speed. The one big issue with this build is it only lasts 8 seconds and if the enemy kites it out, your in trouble.
I'd love to see more barbs experiment with these changes. If we went even farther and tailored our gear to the weak spots of the abilities it could make for some insane builds.
Definitely strong. If you play any duos or trios the new carnage perk is very fun
carnage perk?
Its okay, not bad not great. I think fighter is in a much better spot right now but its still solid.
thank you
Barbarian is still very strong, specially in solos. Meta perks are iron will, berserker, robust and potion chugger. Possibly swapping chugger for axe mastery if you run an axe build. Meta skills are aquiles and rage.
thank your for the solid advice bro
Lvl 40 Barb, so i’ve mainly been trying to run a bleed build with my barb lately. It’s actually not as bad as i thought it would be but i’m wondering if anyone else has found some cool different builds.
I found this Hammer pf the Ancient build, because I was displeased with my own build. Works great and are having fun! Completed the campaign yesterday.
Thanks i will check it out!
Second on hota. Huge numbers.
I see people mention Hota, but I've been using a frenzy / upheaval build with maces. It stuns, and kills elites in one hit, and I don't have problems finding gear with skill increases for upheaval.
Plus there are two uniques that this build directly benefits from.
I run hammer of the ancients with death blow and I’m having a ton of fun. There’s an aspect that grants an additional charge to weapon mastery which helps keep it up and as long as you kill a mob or 2-shot an elite you can keep triggering deathblow.
I usually start with lunging strike to clear the space and then follow with death blow. This lets me “snap” to the next mob and then kill it. Super fun
Better figure it out now before your respec costs millions
Actually not that bad to reapec fully, switching gear fully though can be insanely expensive
Full paragon reset is like 9 mil
that’s why i’m asking now. lol
I'm using WW, but its backed up with Leap, Leaping strike and Death blow (with 2 charges thanks to legendary aspect) iron will and with call of ancients (but contemplating taking that out for rend for a more consistent damage source and sustain)
Basically setup to leap in, usually on whatevers providing damage resistance, generate the 40 fury from that, use that to WW which has been setup to generate nearly infinite fury until I've spent 100 fury by which time the mobs are nicely gathered with the WW gathers enemies legendary. Pop iron will if needed which will allow you to WW for a long time.
They're also bleeding which affects enemies with a 10% slow so the enemies are now affected by the additional damage modifiers for damage to bleeding, crowd controlled, slowed. There's also a very high chance at least one enemy is below 35% health for damage to injured.
Then it's a simple case of unleashing death blow into the pile, which has a 200% bonus to damage thanks to the 'spending 100 fury makes your next weapon mastery skill do 200% more damage'. If this hits an enemy it makes you beserk, if it gets a kill it alsp resets the cd, use it again until your first charge is gone and you have one left.
The first death blow unleashed triggers beserking and also makes your next core skill apply vulnerable for 3 seconds it also has a decent chance to stun enemies.
When you've only got 1 charge of death blow left either risk using it to get a kill and reset both charges or you can now break out the fully beserking WW, which will apply vulnerable (thanks to the first death blow) and use that to whittle down enemies as much as possible so that when you've spent another 100 fury your 2nd charge of Death blow is ready to do 200% more damage and get the kill for reset OR if you've managed to WW long enough your first charge is back and you can use it without worrying about getting a kill to deal massive damage to something, if you've got everything piled up nicely you can usually achieve both results.
From there you just alternate WW to provide vulnerable and Death blows to do huge chunks until you've killed the vast majority of stuff. Popping iron will whenever you need to be unstoppable or whenever you become injured/you feel like you need to. Use leap to either generate 40 fury if you run out or to get away from the action if you're struggling and need a few seconds for iron will/death blow to reset if you've messed up.
Drop call of the ancients whenever you pull a huge group of elites and have no fury and you've got no leap.
At lvl 72 tonight I crit a normal t4 dungeon boss for 809k and have been comfortably clearing +32s while carrying 2 friends (haven't tried higher yet as friends are only lvl 68 and its painful enough watching them get 1 shot to a wraith or something)
If you've not got the fury for WW or the density to sustain it/make it worth it, leaping strike is there to 1) give you mobility, 2) apply a bleed on hit, which again triggers all the associated damage boosts to the point that if you're beserk your death blow should be able to 1 shot most normal enemies and 3) will line you up with whatever you hit so that death blow will hit it and not waste the charge.
Once you get a feel for the HP thresholds you need to guarantee the execute on death blow its a lot of fun just mashing out super big crits everywhere.
Downsides to this build are 1) you don't have an initial source of beserking until you've hit your first deathblow, 2)if you put both death blows on CD because you've either missed or not triggered the reset on kill it takes 16 seconds to get both charges back (one every 8 seconds). 3) doesn't really come online until t3 (although I did fully level up and do the whole campaign with it, but it was rough at times early on)
Upsides 1) super easy to play, 2) no downtime waiting for shouts 3) doesn't require many super niche gear rolls or massively hard to find legendary aspects/uniques to work. However if you do get the unique 2h mace you're actually laughing. 4) very very high survivability and damage (depending on how you've built) 5) beserking and fortify are basically always active once you've got them. 6) very flexible on which legendary aspects you want to use/skills you want to roll.
If it sounds interesting to you (or anyone else) let me know I can go into more specific detail about aspects/paragons and stuff if you want. It's still a work in progress and I'm refining it as I go, but its working very nicely so far.
I'm doing a basic cleave build rn and still collecting the required unique armor pieces there's one for every slot on the barb for this build but even now I'm walking t2 with only the pants boots and sword lol so fun to use
I mean you ask for umph but have absolutely nothing upgraded, no gems or ruin combos and I’m just going to assume you got no affixes and stock tempers
Im new to Diablo 4 where do u get gems to socket?
There is a jeweler in town. They charge gold but you never lose your materials if you salvage with blacksmith or un socket them with jeweler.
I'll play with you, I'm a newish player, but think I have an ok build. What difficulty are you on?
Lets play
Farming pit 85 now on my lunging strike build to level up my glyphs. Might make a mighty throw build for bossing since I've had some nice 2GA items drop for mighty throw build recently. Currently clear everything faster than my pulverize druid and just waiting for upgrades while I farm pits and undercity for runes.
Barbarian has always been a favorite of mine since D2 so of course id end up making one in D4 🤣
Hey guys. So I’m new to the Diablo world but I played POE til end game with a friend that guided me through. I was a cyclone build in that game and I want to bring it over to D4 but idk what’s the right skills to get besides the basics. So any recommendations would be awesome thanks!
People will say Whirlwind, but honestly just play whatever you think is fun. Pretty sure the devs will make sure multiple playstyles will be viable. Sure, there always be one build that can push a little further than the others. But if you aren't having fun playing it, then it's not worth it. I like playing hota because I like smashing things with a hammer. I might not be able to clear as fast as Whirlwind, but at least I'm having fun. Just my 2 cents.
I would check out the maxroll guide for reference if you're not using it yet. Use the barbarian whirlwind Leveling guide and once you beat the campaign and hit 50 switch over to the endgame barbarian whirlwind guide. Hopefully that helps as a good starting point.
I’ll be sure to check it out thanks
It changes daily. Nerf bats galore.
Whatever you enjoy playing
Fair answer lol
best barbarian builds diablo 4
Key Considerations for Barbarian Builds in Diablo 4:
Skill Trees: Focus on the skill trees that enhance your preferred playstyle—whether that’s melee damage, area-of-effect attacks, or survivability.
Weapon Choice: Two-handed weapons typically offer higher damage, while dual-wielding can provide faster attack speeds. Choose based on your build’s focus.
Core Skills: Prioritize skills like Whirlwind for area damage, Rend for bleed effects, or Charge for mobility and initiation.
Passives and Enhancements: Look for passives that boost your damage output or survivability. Skills that enhance your Fury generation can also be crucial for maintaining your abilities.
Gear and Stats: Aim for gear that increases your Strength (for damage), Vitality (for health), and any specific damage types relevant to your build (like Bleed or Stun).
Popular Barbarian Builds:
Whirlwind Build:
Rend Bleed Build:
Brawler Build:
Recommendation: Experiment with different builds to find what suits your playstyle best. The Whirlwind build is particularly effective for both solo and group play due to its area damage and mobility. Always keep an eye on gear that complements your build, as the right stats can significantly enhance your effectiveness in combat.
