Boulder Beach, Simonstown
Boulder Beach is frequently mentioned as a beautiful beach destination in South Africa. It is located near Cape Town and is known for its stunning scenery [1:1]. The beach is famous for its colony of African penguins, making it a unique spot to visit. While not much detailed information was provided in the discussions, its popularity suggests it's worth considering for visitors to the area.
Kogelbaai
Kogelbaai is praised for its picturesque views but criticized for its dangerous waters due to strong undertows and cold temperatures [2:1]
[2:2]. While some people appreciate its beauty, others recommend exploring beaches further down the Garden Route or in the Eastern Cape for safer swimming conditions
[2:3].
Buffelsbaai and Smitswinkel Bay
Buffelsbaai, near Knysna, is noted for its proximity to Cape Town while offering a peaceful environment away from the city's hustle and bustle [3:1]. Smitswinkel Bay, another favorite, is appreciated for its scenic beauty and tranquility
[3:2]. Both locations are ideal for those seeking a serene coastal experience.
Durban Area: Umhlanga and Ballito
For those visiting Durban, Umhlanga and Ballito are recommended for their beautiful beachfronts and vibrant local scenes [4:1]
[4:2]. These areas offer a mix of relaxation and accessibility to dining and entertainment options, making them perfect for a laid-back vacation with plenty of amenities nearby.
Saint Lucia
Saint Lucia is highlighted as a gorgeous destination, though specific details about its beaches were not discussed extensively [4:5]. Known for its natural beauty and wildlife, Saint Lucia offers a different kind of beach experience, often appealing to nature enthusiasts.
In summary, South Africa offers a diverse range of beach experiences, from the penguin-populated Boulder Beach to the tranquil shores of Buffelsbaai and the lively atmosphere of Umhlanga. Each location has its unique appeal, catering to different preferences whether you're looking for adventure, relaxation, or scenic beauty.
That's beautiful!
Thank you!
What would you consider the most beautiful beach(s) in South Africa? Either ones you've visited or not
It's beautiful there, but best? You are sorely mistaken. That water right there is dangerous. This country has many better beaches.
Prettyish, but cold and unusable. Anywhere in the Eastern Cape is better.
You are right. This place is shit. No one needs to ever visit it. Stay away. Don't waste your time. The surf is never good especially in the summer. If you even think of swimming you'll be attacked by a shark.
Edit spl
Well said. Another minus point is that the parking here is up to shit
Let's not mention the baboons
Best if everyone avoids
Yes, indeed. No need for further investigation. Case closed
sure its picturesque... but to swim in? ...nottafuck.
i'm partial to warm, calm waters.. ie caribbean, hawaii, south east asia...
I like my warm waters with waves but yeah, warmer is better
Not even close...It is indeed a nice beach but dangerous undertow. Go a bit further down the Garden Route if you want to see some decent beaches.
We have our share of rip currents too. The stretch between Wilderness & Buffalo Bay is extraordinarily beautiful, but a death trap to inexperienced swimmers. Buffs is great though.
Opinion poll: which small, peaceful coastal town can you see yourself buying a property at? Either permanently or a vacation home.
Simon’s town, nice coastal roads and some international navy’s who come to say hello.
Absolutely, close enough to CPT to have the benefits of a big city, but far enough from CPT to avoid the people from CPT, it's fantastic. Also my favorite beach in the whole world is Smitswinkelbay a short drive away.
J-Bay, chommas, J-Bay. Daar gaan fokol aan, and if you want some city vibes, well, sometimes it feels like Bloemfontein.
Bloemfontein is essentially a city with a small town atmosphere. It is the largest small town out there
Definitely not any on the east coast with the sewage issues we have🙈
Natures Valley
Yes, just a bit out of reach price wise.
Buffelsbaai near Knysna. Near CT, Scarborough, Kommetjie
I’m looking to go on holiday for a few days in Durban. Looking for an area that’s not too busy but where I’m able to also chill on the beach and go grab a nice coffee close by. Would love a beautiful beachfront place for a couple. Any hidden gems out there?
Umdloti or Ballito.
North Star Hotel
Umhlanga Rocks
Close to my house and we often go there for breakfast
Just looked it up. It’s gorgeous
I love Ballito
Saint Lucia.
Looking into this. This was off my radar. Thank you.
Stay in Umhlanga. Close to the beach and lots of good eating spots and bars.
Definitely saw some beautiful beaches when I was there.
Can you tell me those beaches so I can add them to the list?
The ones I was referencing were in the Boulder Beach area, near Cape Town. Most of my time was spent inland, although I was eyeing up an adventure at the seaside parks in the Western Cape.

I read a lovely blog where the author described the beaches of Mozambique’s Quirimbas archipelago as being on par with those in the Maldives, and being some of the most if not the most stunning beaches he had ever visited! The white, powdery sand, gatorade-blue water, and essentially tourist free environment all played a role.
I hope Mozambique can one day capitalize on its natural resources! However, something to note is that nearly all of the islands in both Mozambique’s Quirimbas and Bazaruto archipelagos are privately owned. They need to introduce laws similar to the Seychelles where all beaches are public, but it might be too late for that if they’ve already been bought, I’m not sure.
The cleanest and clearest water i’ve ever seen
I want to go there
There’s an ongoing insurgency in Cabo Delgado, the islands were under Islamic State control for some time last year.
Yes, it’s very unfortunate😕
Absolutely beautiful
Mozambique coast is incredible. Amazing seafood as well

Where is this

As a durbanite, shelly beach in Kenton is something out of a movie. Absolutely stunning.
Just next to it, on the Kariega side, between Carriage Rock and the sandstone cliff, is the best body surfing spot there, but the sand has to wash in a little so you don't turn into mincemeat on the rocks. Just next to that is also an amazing pool that's perfect for chilled out snorkeling at low tide. Both those places are far less packed than Shelly Bay over December.
My hero
Shhh don’t tell people they might come
So glad to see my favourite beach not listed. Prevents it getting over crowded and preserves it as the perfect spot imo.
Shout out to Gonubie lmao. not sure how that made the list
Nahoon beach is better than Gonubie
Agreed, but the boardwalk gives gonubie some charm at least i guess
Best satanic rituals in the whole country in Gonubie.
Sick, thank you 🙏🏼
Governandor Celso Ramos - Palmas
Itapema - Praia da Ilhota
Porto Belo - Praia do Estaleiro

It looks awesome, sand, sea, and sky at its finest.
