TL;DR
Kohler
Kohler toilets receive high praise for their flushing power and reliability. Many users have installed Kohler models like the Cimarron and Wellworth in their homes and report not needing a plunger since [1:1]
[1:5]. The Kohler Highline Classic and Gerber Ultra Flush are noted for their pressure-assisted flush, which is louder but effective for tougher loads
[1:3].
Toto
Toto is another brand that stands out for its powerful flushing mechanisms. The Toto CST744SG Drake toilet is particularly well-regarded for its ability to handle large amounts without clogging [1:11]. Although some users express disappointment with recent changes to the Drake line, Toto remains a popular choice among architects and clients
[1:9].
American Standard
The American Standard Champion 747BA107SC.020 is highlighted as a top-performing single-flush toilet available at Home Depot [1:3]. While powerful, it is noted that these toilets can flush larger objects, potentially leading to plumbing issues
[1:4].
Glacier Bay
Glacier Bay offers budget-friendly options with decent performance. However, some users have reported wear issues with the enamel at the bottom of the bowl [1:12]. Despite this, the Glacier Bay N2428R-DF is considered a best buy for dual-flush toilets
[1:3].
Innovative Features
For those seeking advanced features, the Toto Neorest AS is praised for its self-cleaning capabilities and futuristic design [5:3]. This model requires an electric outlet installation, which may add to the cost but provides convenience
[5:10].
Basically, we have old toilets that are small and struggle with even the slightest poops.(1940's)
Id like to get a larger more powerful toilet that will just destroy the turd in question. Kinda like an episode of "Will it blend".
Thanks for any help!
We've got very hard water and ours is still fine after 7 years, although I had to replace the entire flush mechanism after 5 because my wife apparently goes hulk on the flush lever.
My library has a Consumer Reports subscription.

I've only used kohler Cimarron in my past two homes, 6 toilets. They work great and have an attachment system which does not have bolts through the tank to the base unit. So never have to deal with disintegrating grommets in the tank and mystery leaks.
Yeah, I have been very pleased with my Kohlers I have installed over the last few years in my home. Haven't grabbed a plunger since.
Disappointed to not see a Toto anywhere on the list
Edit: so much love (for Toto). So much hate (for Toto). I’m not a plumber, just a dumb architect. I usually specify Toto and my clients love them. I practically only specify ADA toilets. The legato has been particularly popular lately.
As I understand it, Toto absolutely fucked up by retiring their CST744 Drake toilet and shoehorning less-good toilets into the "Drake" name. Also, Toto inexplicably seems to be moving away from toilets that are actually a reasonable height in favor of stupidly-high ADA bullshit.
I have a Toto CST744SG Drake toilet and it's fantastic, it only clogged once from a friend who has a toilet-clogging superpower; it's a testament to how good the toilet is that the friend only managed it the one time. (Edit: this friend also tends to wad up huge amounts of toilet paper; I have since installed a BioBidet bidet.) I'm looking to upgrade the toilet in my other bathroom, and Toto's current lineup is surprisingly disappointing unless I want to get an ADA-height unit and do some annoying thing like raise the floor around the damn thing after installing it. The Kohler Wellworth K-3575 has a 1000 MaP score, only uses 1.28 gallons, and is actually a reasonable height, so I'm rather considering jumping ship and getting one of those.
Supposedly, Toto's newer CST776 model Drake (replacing their poorly-regarded CST746 model) is promising, but I am a little skeptical at this point.
One problem with big flushers like Toto and American Standard, they will flush big things like toys and such that can clog your plumbing
If you ever visit Kohler Wisconsin there's a factory showroom that's a must see. All the high end fixtures that you've never even heard of they're so advanced. They also have one wall where they hang and display every toilet they make. It's called the great wall of china.
I have the same one. Eats big poops like nothing. Even the little flush can handle your average poop.
I have one. Such a pain to troubleshoot. Air intake, water pressure, cartridge problems
It flushes nicely when it works though
Basically the Cadillac of toilets.
I have a couple of those Glacier Bay toilets. Had the "original to the house 1970's robins egg blue" toilet tank spontaneously crack a couple years ago and decided to replace 2 at the same time to take advantage of my city's rebate program (got reimbursed $50 per toilet and no dump fees to dispose the old ones).
We haven't had any issues with them EXCEPT it looks like the enamel has been worn away in the very bottom of the bowl. My husband is from California and has a habit of not flushing so I think a combination of over-exuberant brushing and letting things mellow has caused the damage.
But I haven't had to plunge either that I can recall.
John Lewis toilets - 4/5
Quiet and out the way, brought down slightly by the weird fabric pull hand towel.
Argyle street - 5/5
John Lewis was my go to at Uni and my first thought when I read this title. It's interesting that fellow toilet connoisseurs have identified the same place.
Those are some good quiet toilets in princes square, 3rd floor. Although if you want really quiet, try the Jury's Inn toilets on the 1st floor opposite the meeting rooms, always dead.
Also you guys realise this post is literally naming every 'cruising' spot in town right? I mean who else is looking for a quiet toilet where there's no-one about? 🤤
The disabled toilet in queens street station. Looks nicer than my flat. My mum unironically sent me pics of it she was so impressed.
They reinstated the fee for the queen street toilets which enrages me. ITS A BASIC HUMAN NEED, FS!
You should be able to get in with a valid train ticket. Who has 30p on them anymore!
A bit of old Edinburgh lore was how to get into the Waverley toilets without paying.
(There was a gate for the cleaners/service people halfway down the barrier dividing the "In" and "Out" lines, and the turnstiles were at opposite ends. So you could walk down the "Out" walkway and just go through behind the "In" turnstiles. Stole many a shite from Network Rail that way.)
I almost took photos of a toilet I was in at a funeral parlour recently, on Shettleston Road. Massive. It looked like an IKEA showroom.
Only the ones right at the back of the top floor (i.e. that serve the restaurants) are open, I think they've shut the others for this very reason. Still a good option, though, if you can be bothered trekking up three floors
Rating **** : nice and clean bogs, pretty quiet, but deducting a star as most of the taps don't work
Source: needed a shite
Second level of cineworld, right past the starbucks, literally, the most out of the way toilet I've ever visited, not for a shite granted, but still. Bonus it actually has free wifi there also. Solid 4.8/5 from me.

Edit: also it's only one stall, so perfect if you're wanting privacy for your jobbie.
If you didn’t go for a shit but had time to notice there was free Wi-Fi, you must’ve went in for a wank!!
Mate that is a challenge my sphinx cannot partake in.
Aye, bar the door and wait for the automatic lights to go out then hold your phone really close to your face for that full IMAX experience. Throw in some AirPods Pro for surround sound too.
Button flush is meant to be a water saving measure. The small button releases only a fraction of the tank volume. You can open the tank lid and see for yourself how it works.
These are for sure the superior method for our modern world.
That’s why I have one in my home.
I love that they’re to save water but as someone with longer nails, I HATE THEM. I end up having to curl my finger and use my knuckle to press them down, otherwise I risk breaking a nail.
I wish they were like the handles that you either push down or up
Not if a majority of people don't know how to use them correctly.
Eew. I fucking hate it when people kick the handles. Don’t get your peepee feet on it. We all wipe our asses, and that’s why you wash your hands after flushing.
Use your feet to reduce contact with your hands. Just don't try to kick it like you're breaking down a door.
But...if you wash your hands?
Look at this fucking peasant that's never seen a floor mounted flush that you can just depress with your foot.
I bet you clean your ass with dead tree fibers too
I was holding out for the pull chain flush to feature 🥲
Yeah I thought that was gunna be the top spot
this guy is an idiot
We saw a commercial on TV for this product and my wife balked when I said we needed this. Today at the store she is all about getting one. 🤣
Fuck this is a reach mate
Bruh… that’s very obviously a vibrator that attaches to a poop brush…
just checked the subreddit because of your comment lol and yeah, what is OP implying?
The “POCKET VAC” kinda SUS too!! 🤔👀🤣
“It sucks up EVERYTHING”
Come, Ride the Unicorn™
She saw the ad & thought it was silly............then she took some time to think about it! 👀
Tell her it's gonna spin poo particles into her face :(
The rechargeable part is detachable, for 'convenience'.
gets ideas and grinds like an idiot
(Grinds=grin but the typo was too right to change(
Thumbs up though for cleaning toilets. It’s a great time to remind her how sexy she is. Take her to dinner. Splurge on dinner and then splurge at home in the bedroom. Don’t worry, be happy.
19" and it spins, huh.
How is cleaning it compared to a regular toilet? People say they’re hard to clean?
PS did you add the electric outlet? (I just got an estimate for that).
Thank you !
How much was your estimate to add the power outlet? Do you already have one nearby or will it be a big project?
I just got an estimate for this; I have a little room like this with NO nearby power. My electrician is pulling a line up from the crawl space and only charging about $200. And no, I can’t give out his number.
Nice pooper
Hah.. I was looking for the repair to your Neorest! Butt I see the Neorest is the repair!
What’s it like to poop in the future? I thought there was supposed to be seashells?
There are! It’s magical.
Demolition man reference. Solid
Toto the ONLY way to go💪🏼
Our powder room toilet is about 20 years old and keeps getting clogged. It’s also the main toilet myself, husband, and 2 kids use the most throughout the day.
My plumber recommended replacing it with a new one.
I want to be prepared about the fact that I have a husband who enjoys eating and a son who is already a big kid at 5 yrs old and will likely grow to be a large man as he ages.
So I’m looking for a toilet that can withstand years of abuse and can flush with some power 😅
I don’t know how to search for that though. Anyone know?
Just had to replace one at my house. My plumber recommended Kohler or Toto, but he preferred Toto. So that’s what I got. Never heard of them before, but it’s obviously a much better quality toilet than the one it replaced.
Toto is very good. Japan made. We have three. Replaced all in our house.
Our current toilet is a Kohler so I was thinking about replacing it w that
Is it a powerful flush??
TOTO toilets have power!
We have 3 of these in the house and I can definitely agree. They have a stronger flush. We had clogged toilets with our previous toilets but not one since we’ve had the memoirs.
Post this question to r/askaplumber Their answer will be TOTO brand toilets hands down.
Indeed the difference between a $150 no name Home Depot brand vs $500 ToTo is night and day. Ordered from Costco delivered. Easy to install yourself. Will last another 20 years
My plumber highly recommended Toto as the top of the line for toilets. He had nothing good to say about Kohler. Apparently the innards are proprietary and hard to replace.
I went with American Standard because it's a guest bath and I honestly didn't care. It's a fine toilet. Flushes and everything.
You're thinking of the American Standard Champion Four. I recently bought one. It's an excellent toilet.
We went with Toto in our upstairs bath Reno and we absolutely love it. Except if you aren’t prepared it’s loud. But it’s fast and easy to clean. We do handheld bidet systems not seats.
Starting our downstairs bathroom Reno this year and will be going with another Toto.
I am thinking about buying the American Standard Champion 4 toilet. The toilets at our house clog frequently.
That's normal with any modern 1+ gallon flush toilet, assuming your old toilet is a 3+ gallon toilet. If you want to save slightly more water, you can go with a dual flush model that has one flush setting for pee and a more powerful/more water use one for poo. Unfortunately, most of the dual flushers are good flushers but not great ones.
Honestly, I wouldn't mess around with a Toto or Kohler. Some Totos flush decently but are hard to repair when parts fail. 2 specifics: It's hard to find the correct replacement 3" flappers for some models, and the side mount handles tend to fail fairly quickly because they aren't engineered well. Kohlers are more expensive for the same quality and performance, often slightly harder to assemble, and sometimes use non-standard parts. The only reason to buy a Kohler is if you like the styling - Kohler makes some unique looking potties.
I've used the Glacier Bay Power Flush https://www.homedepot.com/p/Glacier-Bay-Power-Flush-12-inch-Rough-In-Two-Piece-1-28-GPF-Single-Flush-Elongated-Toilet-in-White-Seat-Included-N2450E/308702440 in several applications where users' massive loaves were clogging their existing toilets, even some decent quality newer toilets. No complaints yet. Decent plastic slow close seat, no reason to buy an upgrade. I use the elongated chair height ones, but available in round if you can't fit an elongated, and in extra tall if you need it.
BTW, don't mess around with a wooden seat either. Eventually the paint chips off and they get rotten. And the wood technology makes for a flatter, less comfortable seat because they don't curve down below the plane of the bowl top.
G-Toilet, Chief Scientist Mech, and this guy
OMG I kinda forgot about him lol I wish he was still alive with Astro ark upgrades even tho he is a astro
Imagine he got the Flamethrower treatment.
We need a new g-coy, g-titan is here, mech is getting upgrades and we need someone for jimmy to use his nukes on
Hopefully they can use what's left of my GOAT G-coy and hopefully revive him I mean mafia could survive acid and 3 slaps so G-coy might have survived the bombs
OUR Goat my friend
What about G 5.0, Scientist mech (astro arc) and DJ?
(oh and btw this is before the Astros ark is what I mean)
(and mafia is just a semi-titan but I understand)
Better than g coy imo ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I feel like dutchess is also considered a Titan
But yes I think they qualify as titans too (rip scientist mech and g-coy 😔)
Rip indeed
Basically what title says - ideally it would be a toilet that we could source from Lowe’s/HD/Costco as that is what is around me. In terms of budget we are probably thinking somewhere between 100-200 but can be a bit flexible.
I looked online but it feels like every website is an “advertising” website and makes me feel like I can’t trust/rely on their information.
Edit: wow - thank you for all the tips and advice...who knew people were so passionate about shit (hehe). We ended up going with the American standard champion 4 toilet. We looked at the Kohlers and ToTos but unfortunately they are out of the range we are comfortable spending at the moment (house flooded and so we have other expenses we are prioritizing like redoing floors). I posted in one of my comments but for anyone who can’t get a new toilet but has lots of clogs I do strongly recommend “The Beehive” plunger... it works wonders!
Spend more. Buy a Toto.
The first time I had to have a plumber out to our current house he commented that the Toto in our powder room was a Japanese Toto- There's nothing that indicates to me that it's Japanese, but the damned thing IS the best toilet in our house.
Yes, this. Our plumber recommended it and we had no idea a toilet could work so well. Really helps with the vegetarian diet.
Our house has 4 toto's and honestly I still haven't figured them out. Like, the water level is so low in the bowl that whenever you shit it just sticks to the sides. Like, you have to perfectly center youre dooky to hit that straight shot or you're fucked. We have to constantly scrub the bowls out. I can't find any information on how to raise the water level (builder didn't leave the manuals) and honestly with everything else I haven't had much time to dedicate to it.
Definitely a Toto. I have no idea if it’s water efficient, or not. Don’t care. My kids used to clog the goddam toilets like once a week. Switched to Toto Drake in all three bathrooms.....,hasn’t happened since.
A Plumber told me the best toilets in his opinion were American Standard Cadet toilets
Totally agree. Cadet is the way to go. We have one with a round bowl. The other is elongated. The elongated one sometimes gets toilet tissue stuck near the forward edge. That doesn't happen at all with the round one. But they both flush beautifully compared to the toilets we used to have.
Try the commercial version, the super-flushers?
We didn't get that, but got a Kohler--I think Corbelle. I wanted a skirted base because I didn't want to have to dust the crannies on the outside. It has a swirl flushing--I haven't had a problem with it.
I second kohler
I have very strong opinions on toilets. I didn’t know this about myself until it was time to replace the toilets in my house.
We bought these ones: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Jacuzzi-Primo-White-WaterSense-Dual-Flush-Elongated-Chair-Height-Toilet-12-in-Rough-In-Size/1000181997
Top Features:
Under $200 and available at Lowe’s
Push buttons on top of lid instead of traditional handle. One button is “low flow” and uses less water
Chair height and elongated bowl
Slow close lid
The toilet is “one piece” which means the tank is attached. So no gross corner/edge that is difficult to clean.
Edit: words are hard
Just flush 10-15 times.
Master Plumber here:
The correct answer is Toto. However, don’t buy them from a home improvement center. Find out which local plumbing supply has them in stock. You’ll generally get better customer service from a local plumbing supply house.
Kholer is absolute junk.
American Standard Cadet 3 would be a solid #2 pick. Their Champion toilets (flush a bucket of golf balls) have a weak link in the seal on the flush tower… it develops blisters over time which prevents a solid seal, leading to “ghost flushing” or “ghost refilling”.
Mansfield is… ok. Not the best bang for your buck in my opinion. The Mansfield summit can get the job done.
If you want a budget friendly toilet, I’d suggest the Toto Entrada. It’s cute too! And fits in smaller spaces.
If you want a powerful flush, with good bowl cleaning action, I’d suggest The Toto Drake. It has a strong Tornado flush and has 3 large jets that spin the water in a powerful vortex.
Hope this helps.
Is the Toto Drake a good choice for flushing lots of waste? We have several family members who are toilet cloggers.
Yes. The Toto Drake is the best choice for constant clogging. Make sure to get the 1.6 Gallons per flush toilet.
Project manager for a plumbing supply house here. Toto is my #1. I have 3 in my house. Nothing special, just drakes. Love them completely. Great look, easy install, maintenance and or repair parts if needed are very easy. All around my favorite. I prefer Proflo over Mansfield in that category. Mansfield seals etc seem to decay immediately.
Another vote for toto, as we had zero repairs in our previous house for more than 15 years. On the other hand, I personally think Kohlers internal parts are junk, having to replace them multiple times within a few years compared to a cheapo Beamis from home depot.
Toto here as well, been selling them for years and have them in my homes, nothing better imo
Opposite experience. Have went through two American standard toilets in past 15 years that discolored and required double flush most of the time. Replaced with Kohler that are near vacuum powered.
I can't recommend TOTO enough! I've had the TOTO Drake FLUSH Toilet for a solid two years and it's been reliable.
Hi, I’m Vetted AI Bot! I researched the TOTO Drake Two Piece Elongated 1 6 GPF Universal Height TORNADO FLUSH Toilet with CEFIONTECT Cotton White CST776CSFG 01 you mentioned in your comment along with its brand, Toto, and I thought you might find the following analysis helpful.

You are not lying there. 99% flush every time, little maintenance.
You need better water filtration if your fixtures are corroding that bad. Also, kohler will replace anything after 1997 for free.
How many bowling balls will it flush?
I have always used Costco Kirkland brand toilet paper since it’s always been in my life. I feel as though there my be other brands that are better. Would you have any toilet paper suggestions for the best toilet paper available? Thanks!
Charmin Ultra... hardest to find for a reason. It's soft and strong.
If you don't care about strong, Cottonelle and Charmin Soft are pretty good. They really round out the top 3.
Angel Soft is popular but it's not very good. It's better than the generics.
Kirkland Signature (Costco's brand) is usually pretty good, but I'm not familiar with their TP. Most generics are good in a pinch but not that great, but I'd assume KS is at least as good as Angel Soft.
I really like Sam’s club’s Members Mark. I’ve used both Kirklands and Sam’s and I think Sam’s is far superior.
Let’s talk actual optimizations. Get a bidet from Amazon and/or flushable baby wipes instead of toilet paper. You’ll never go back.
99% of flushable wipes will clog your pipes in an instant.
Been using them for years and never had a problem. This is pure toilet paper propaganda!
Quilted norther is where it’s at
Yep, the 3 ply ultra plush.
Only use free range, gmo free, organic TP.
best brands for powerful flushing toilets
Key Considerations for Powerful Flushing Toilets:
Flushing Technology: Look for toilets with advanced flushing systems, such as dual-flush, pressure-assisted, or gravity-fed systems, which provide strong and efficient flushing.
MaP Score: Check the Maximum Performance (MaP) score, which measures how well a toilet can flush waste. A score of 1,000 grams or more is considered excellent.
Water Efficiency: Consider models that use 1.28 gallons per flush (GPF) or less to save water while still providing powerful flushing.
Bowl Design: An elongated bowl design typically offers better comfort and can enhance flushing performance compared to round bowls.
Ease of Cleaning: Look for toilets with a smooth, easy-to-clean surface and a design that minimizes the buildup of waste.
Top Brands for Powerful Flushing Toilets:
Toto: Known for their high-quality toilets, Toto offers models like the Toto Drake II and Toto Ultramax II, which are highly rated for their flushing power and efficiency.
Kohler: Kohler toilets, such as the Kohler Cimarron and Kohler Wellworth, are recognized for their innovative flushing technologies and stylish designs.
American Standard: Models like the American Standard Champion 4 are praised for their powerful flush and reliability, often featuring a high MaP score.
Gerber: Gerber toilets, particularly the Gerber Viper, are known for their strong flushing capabilities and affordability.
Niagara Conservation: For eco-friendly options, Niagara toilets, such as the Niagara Stealth, provide powerful flushing with minimal water usage (0.8 GPF).
Recommendation: If you're looking for a balance of performance and efficiency, the Toto Drake II is a top choice due to its powerful flush, high MaP score, and water-saving features. For a budget-friendly option, consider the American Standard Champion 4, which offers excellent performance at a reasonable price.
