TL;DR The Buick LaCrosse and the Buick Regal are often highlighted as top choices for those seeking a reliable, comfortable, and feature-rich sedan experience.
Buick LaCrosse
The Buick LaCrosse is frequently mentioned as one of the best sedans from Buick. Owners have praised its reliability and comfort, with some users reporting high mileage with minimal issues [2:1],
[2:6]. The Avenir trim is particularly sought after for its luxurious features and durability, with some owners expecting their vehicles to reach 300,000 miles
[2:3]. Additionally, the LaCrosse is noted for its smooth ride and advanced features such as adaptive suspension and active noise cancellation
[4:11].
Buick Regal
The Buick Regal, including models like the Regal TourX, is another popular choice among enthusiasts. It is appreciated for its sporty yet comfortable ride, offering a balance between performance and luxury [3:7]. The Regal's design and engineering provide a driving experience that many find satisfying, especially when compared to other sedans in its class.
Historical Models
For those interested in classic Buicks, models like the Roadmaster and Electra 225 are often celebrated for their iconic designs and robust performance [3:2],
[3:3]. These models are cherished by collectors and car enthusiasts who appreciate the blend of luxury and power that Buick was known for during those eras.
Comfort and Features
Buick sedans are renowned for their comfortable seating and plush interiors. Many users have found Buick seats to be exceptionally comfortable, comparing them favorably to other brands [5:3],
[5:5]. The brand's focus on providing a smooth and quiet ride makes it an attractive option for those prioritizing comfort in their vehicle choice.
Market Position and Brand Perception
Buick has carved out a niche as a value-oriented brand offering premium features at a more affordable price point than luxury competitors [1:1]. While not as exciting as some other brands, Buicks are seen as solid, reliable vehicles that offer good value for money
[1:9]. Despite sharing platforms with Chevrolet, Buick maintains a distinct identity, particularly appealing to those seeking understated luxury without the high cost associated with brands like Cadillac
[4:4].

They’re extremely boring, but objectively good cars. Good features, solid reliability, reasonably comfortable, cheap. Just boring lol
So basically an American version of Toyota?
Ehhhhhh
I would say Toyota’s products are definitely more reliable, better built, and actually more exciting. Buick’s are generally decently reliable, Toyota is top-tier reliable.
What? No.
They're the same cars as Chevrolets and GMCs with a different badge, it's been this way for 30+ years.
With few exceptions, you can buy a Chevrolet version of any Buick for less money.
The pecking order is Cadillac, Buick, GMC, Chevrolet. Almost all of them sell the same cars with a few gaps here and there (no Cadillac version of a Trax or Blazer).
Buick is absolutely nothing special and the only reason I can imagine they still exist is because they USED to be a presigious brand in China. I'm pretty sure that's all done now however.
Realistically, when GM culled Saturn, Hummer, Saab, Oldsmobile and Pontiac, they should have killed off Buick too.
If you want a cheap Buick, buy a Chevy. If you want a fancy Buick, but a Cadillac. If you want a Buick, then you can be one of the eight people in your town who go buy one. Fine if you can get a deal on one, but nothing interesting (now that that TourX is dead).
I would say so but a little more luxurious and moderately less reliable
I work at a car dealership that sells three import brands (euro/japan/korea) and every kind of used car under the sun… I have driven everything on the road shy of supercars.
When my wife’s basic-ass Toyota got destroyed in a flood, I had to find her a vehicle quickly and decided to buy her the “best deal” on the lot
We got her a 2022 Buick Envision and she absolutely loves it. It is featured to the moon- (heated steering wheel & seats, 360 camera, blind spot, heated mirrors, park assist, great leather, proximity keys, power kick liftgate, wireless carplay, remote start, heads up display, adaptive cruise, etc). It’s very comfortable, it’s sufficiently peppy for her needs and it looks nice if not a little boring. The build quality is very good and the materials feel more premium than certainly Toyota and Honda. Hers is FWD and I wish it was AWD but she doesn’t drive in inclement weather anyway, so who cares- it gets better MPG than the AWD would.
They don’t sell a ton of these in the US, but they sell about a billion of them in China and the drivetrain is proven.
I will say the back up camera in this Buick is the best backup camera I have ever seen in any vehicle at any price period
Wow had no clue Buicks sold well in China.
My mom had a Buick Enclave for 12 years without a single issue. They’re not exciting vehicles but seem to be very reliable and quite comfortable.
They are mediocre cars at a good price. Value sells. Go test drive it and see for yourself! I personally thought the envista seats were hilariously uncomfortable. I think it was the headrest that sucked
And the Envista has one of the very smallest mass-production engines available 😁
They are actually the top brand for DUIs lol
It is value. Buick offers more premium features and comforts for a more affordable price than the competition. Plus they have some sharp looking cars recently
It’s odd to see such a gap between Buick and Chevy given 3/4 Buick offerings in the US are shared platforms with Chevy (Envista-Trax, Encore-Trailblazer, and Enclave-Traverse). I wonder if Chevy’s other offerings drag them down.
It’s a shame they stopped making sedans. Owned a 2006 and currently a 2013 LaCrosse. Night and day. Close to 100,000 miles, routine maintenance except for a vacuum hose and brake calipers(kept outside and NE winters), and an A/C compressor
If I can find one, next car will be LaCrosse Avenir trim. I feel current one is going to 300,000
My 2013 LaCrosse made it to 208k before it was taken out by a tree branch falling on it and impaling my engine bay into the air intake side. Best first car I could have ever asked for
Ahem, Buick China says 👋
They do, and they're gorgeous, look up the L7.
Chinese here, those new LaCrosse actually sell pretty well, I saw many of them in my hometown, which is deep Shanghai GM territory, I think the main reason is they only cost 25,000 usd for top of the line model.
Yeah legit, they need to start making sedans again. I’m sick of the abundance of crossovers everywhere they look like driving shoes
There are many ways to play these numbers. Some brands say change brake fluid over 3 years in the main guide... others don't. "Lifetime" trans fluid...
Most cars are similar. Do the brake fluid liste or not. Find out spark plug change interval as that varies. Don't rely too much on numbers. I owned a Buick, and Lexus, and Cadillac, and Lincoln. Cadillac XTS has been by far the cheapest over 9 years. No timing belt, spark plugs oncem coolant twice, etc. Even with AWD it has been a breeze. Even so, I needed new struts and to get OE (and they are magnetic ride control) they were a fortune.
Look for reliability with maintenance. Except EVs, all cars are similar: oil, brake fluid changes, trans fluid, spark plugs, coolant, air/cabin filters. Add extra for AWD and nmaybe cvts needing more fluid changes. Consider hybrid battery replacement risk if you keep the car ages. If a car still uses a timing belt (Buick Envista supposedly at 150k) factor that in...
I liked my Buick, but doubt it is inherently cheaper in the long run.
EDIT: I've read extremely mixed things about recent Buick SUV reliability... not enough to really have a sense, but if true, that matters too. Yes, Toyota paint if failing along with some of its V8s. Not slamming Buick, but watch out.
I couldn't tell you because according to the commercial, buick does not look like a Buick, and it is like a good thing. So everytime I look for a Buick, I never see one. "Is that a buick your driving". Of course not because it is a buick that does not look like a buick.
Unless you bought it used.
Press X to Doubt.
Edit: I'm totally sure a 2017 Lacrosse is worth more than it was new...
Damn some of y'all are dense, this doesn't take a genius to figure out that a nearly 10y/o Impala based sedan didn't age well when considering residual values...
Your local salesperson has a great day when you walk in the door, I'm sure.
Indeed. I have been in an Impala. The XTS AWD helps torque steer, and the car is comfortable. Having owned a Lesabre before, the XTS came closest, and other Cadillacs (CTS etc.) seemed less reliable. I tried a 2016 Lacrosse and it was very smooth but felt even smaller, with bad visibility. (17 didn't do it for me either). The MRC is unfortunate but the car has been good. I've had ct5s as loaners and they don;t do it for me, even if they are a "real" Cadillac. At 28k for a 1 year old XTS with 25k miles on it, it was in retrospect a great value.
Roadmaster 1991-96
Electra 225 mid 60s
Buick 6 Special, early 60s
Regal/Grand National/T Type 1983-89 (?)
Park Ave 1991-96
Lesabre (any, but I'm partial to 92-95 3800 Series I)
Buick roadmaster
Roadmaster Limited with the V92 "Trailering Provisions" package, all the luxury of a Cadillac with the handling of a 9C1
Anything with a 3800 in it.
100% this doesn't matter if it's 3.8na, 3.8t, 3.8sc It's the goat
3800 surpremacy
REALLY big in China and also Buick is for the mid level professionals that want to look sharp and have some luxury without the cost and pretentiousness associated with Cadillac
Does anyone under the age of 65 drive a buick?
I had an Enclave Avenir company car a while back. All my friends (25-30ish) joked about me driving it until they rode in it and they all really liked it. I liked it as well but outside of a performance car, our gm brands don't matter to me since many of our vehicles share a platform with another brand.
I'd take a Buick if they had a performance one. Personally I think some of them are the nicest looking cars we make.
I do! 2018 Lacrosse and I'm <25 lol. AWD, 310hp V6, adaptive suspension, active nose cancelling, massaging/heated/ventilated seats, and tons more. It feels like a tank that just happens to also be moderately athletic, no idea why they're slept on so much
It's the brand that won't die.
I bought an Oldsmobile, they killed it off.
Later I bought a Saturn, they killed it off.
Then I bought a Buick, and they just can't seem to find a way....
I was really surprised they killed Saturn. Saturn owners were a loyal customer base and it was their future brand.
It is the case. You can find varied datasets, this one is from 10 years ago so it’s a bit outdated. The average Buick customer was 60.3 in 2013. Only Lincoln had older customers
Huge in China! It’s a Status symbol if you own a Buick there. Maybe the equivalent to some sort of luxury foreign car here. I know for a while they were buying up all the classic Buicks they could get their hands on.
Old people fucking love Buicks
Not just them, but they've been a solid conquest brand from other premium brands, like Acura and Volvo, as well as strong with female purchasers.
Also, the average age has been trending downward
What is the envista then? I notice a lot of similar components with other GM vehicles. Among new cars (work at multiple dealers, mostly big 3 and little bit of foreign market, I love it. Makes me think of an upgraded Chevy trax which with the knee ones I wouldn’t complain of owning
I changed my older Lincoln for a Buick Verano two years ago. The Lincoln, to my surprise, was causing me butt and back pain.
My Buick seats have been just right. Good plush feeling under my buttocks, the perfect support for my back with no agressive poking parts. Just the head restraint a tad too invasive.
I went to the car show this winter. All the car seats I tested were horrible, including the new Buick Envista.
My dad's Subaru are awful.
And now, my beloved Buick is at the garage for a few days to investigate a vibration issue.
They gave me a Hyundai Sonata as a loaner. In 10 minutes, my buttocks and especially my upper back were in so much pain.
People who sit in these have not sat in a pre-2020 Buick...They would be like me and unable to sit in anything else apart from a Buick.
People rave about Volvo, but when I sit in them at the car show, it's like all the seat parts all trying to poke me or compress me.
Even the rear bench does it me. My first Buick was an 06 Allure, and the rear seat(s) had never been used. Like having a giant portable plush couch.
THIS. i have an 07 lucerne with the bench seat and column shifter option and it’s my pride and joy. i don’t think i’ll ever switch to seperated seats again
I've owned 2 LeSabres (98 & 2000) and a 99 Park Avenue. They had the most comfortable seats and the smoothest ride of the many cars I've owned.
Its varies from brand to brand, model to model, and person to person.
Here is a weird example:
Many years ago I had a 2004 caravan. Seats were nice, about at comfortable as a well supported office chair.
I got a Dodge journey following that, and I loved the seats. When It was totaled, I wanted to find a car with as comfortable seats. For some reason, I really liked Jeep Cherokee seats and Buick seats meet or exceeded my comfort.
Later, I lived in Germany an drove a Chinese Nio ET7, and it was perfect for me. Later in the trip I had a Mercedes EQA, and it wasn't bad, but it lacked the "omg this is comfortable" feeling of the Buick, and Chinese cars.
Tldr: I like Buick seats, but comfort is a subjective opinion, and it depends on who's sitting, what car they're in, and how they react to the seat.
Oh. If you want to get spoiled forever, sit in a Cadillac V sedan seat. Very good for driving sporty, but doesnt compromise comfort at all.
lucerne back seats are awesome, i just wish they were heated. i think they come that way on the super if i'm not wrong
yes they do
i love the seats in my enclave
Didnt really have a specific question. Just wanted to hear y'all opinion on the topic. Im my opinion, nothing is even close to touching the 72' Rivera Boattail.
Well I have a 95 Roadmaster, so I'll say Roadmasters. But I love a boat tail Riviera to no end. I've owned a few cars that have the 3800 engine and all have been great. I liked my 97 Regal more than my 05 Lacrosse with the 3800 though.
1987 GNX, thats my personal unicorn.

Yesss Thats what im looking for
Regal GS
If it ain’t got a straight-8, it’s not great! lol
I have enjoyed all the Roadmasters we’ve had, excellent tow vehicles.
Boat tail is definitely up there with the greatest.
I’d say anything with a 3800 shoved in it. Really great engine that never seems to quit.
Supercharged version please
L67 series 2 please
Solid lineup. I agree.
Coming up on 1 year with this vehicle! I never saw myself as a Buick owner but this has been an amazing vehicle!
The ST trim. I’m a heavy driver have done several roadtrips and almost 30K my first year between work commutes and other forms of travel.
I have the sister car a ‘24 2RS Trax with 30k on it, 18 months old and I am on the highway everyday 80 miles round trip, plenty of power. If the three cylinder continues to treat me well my next one will be the Envista ST. The Buick comes with more amenities than the Trax.
Nice!!! I hit 1 yr in early July. I am just hitting 37500 and needing oil change, prob tomorrow night.
No big complaints at all, and gas mileage is awesome.
I feel better about my mileage now! lol I feel the same! The ride, gas mileage is amazing. Just maintenance and going!
Wife and I drive the hell out of our cars. Her 2018 jetta is reaching 200k. Funny thing about that? I've never even touched the front brakes, and only did the rears at 170k.
We are looking at equinox ev to replace the jetta but sadly all the lt1 packages are gone since the ev credit got announced to be fading out. Gm sold 8500 evs last month, up 115% ridiculous
Its gorgeous! We are nearly at the one year mark with our ST and absolutely love it. No complaints. Tremendous value.
Yes! It is a tremendous value, a Buick fan.
Guys. Serious question for you. One concern I have is the speed. Is the Envista really as slow ‘some’ folks claim?
No, it is perfectly fine and picks up pretty good with the turbo. It’s not for racing it’s for getting you to where you want to go.
In my experience, no. I have let other people drive my car and many say it feels faster than cars they own with more horsepower. The car is light which seems to balance out the smaller engine.
If this color was in the preferred, I would've done this color
I fell in love with this color haven’t seen many with this one since getting it!
Yeah just wasn't gonna pay that much more money to get the color
Buicks are underrated if you’re not into speed or performance imo. Go for it!
It's Buicks best model, apparently quality control on China is better than American models
I'm not a huge fan of Buick, but my wife's folks has a 2017 of one of these and its held up great. The interior is very comfortable too.
We hit up almost every good, top pick from consumer reports and had her drive it (if we could find it in the lot...) and her top 3 ended up being lexus, volvo and buick! No crv 2023 yet, also no rav4 which she can test drive. did not like benz and the attitude of the salesman. Did not try bmw x3 yet. She said she was really impressed with Envision Avenir! And the price is pretty attractive compared to the other luxury suvs, plus all 5 stars for crash ratings too...
All those are going to be significantly more expensive, and the Buick does have a much more luxurious feel than any Rav 4 (if you could even get one).
That’s a story and a half lol. The Buicks a steal. Most people buying a German car for the badge anyway
You had 9 Buick dealerships close to you?
American car manufacturers must be desperate. Dropping below MSRP is unheard of in this market
How did you manage to negotiate that deal? Lol I'm interested in a Buick now.
The actual American vehicles folks want (Maverick, Bronco, trucks, etc...) are going for msrp or well above msrp. Buick just isn't a brand folks are clamoring for.
That's crazy- I would have thought it was made in MX alongside the Blazer. Buick's line in China has been in production for something on the order of 22 years, because Buick is probably one of the most important brands to GM in that market.
$5200 off of MSRP? Go for it! I'm not too big on GM, but the Buicks are a decent amount more reliable
People think Buicks are more reliable than Chevrolets because they're more likely to be driven by elderly people who don't abuse them, and can afford not to neglect maintenance. There were Impalas with that 3.8-liter pushrod V6 that is still pretty tough, in the same way that there were Buicks with the 3.6 DOHC V6 that had huge reliability problems upon release.
Trivia Time!!
Buick is the most popular American car in China because it was the preferred car of famous Chinese political figures back in the 1950's.
Can confirm. I visited china in 2017 and was astonished by the number of Buicks.
I used to go four times a year for work … never noticed any Buicks. In over a decade. I wasn’t really looking, but yeah, never noticed a single Buick.
when i went to china in 2002, i was shocked to see that the official government car was a black buick century. i was thinking, the target market in the usa is probably some korean war vet who hates commies, and here it’s the official ride of the CCP.
Buick frequently tops reliability charts next to Lexus. You don't know what you're talking about, especially calling German cars reliable. 😂
I bought one of these for like $4200 equivalent when I still lived in the UK. Seems this Buick model has barely changed since the 2009 versions we had in Europe!
buick pretty much just imported & rebadged vauxhalls/opels for the past couple decades, decent cars but weird to position them towards old people.
especially when they had just killed off saab, you'd think they would want to use these for an "import" brand of some form instead of trying to american-ize them.
Yeah, it’s too bad they got rid of the Saab brand instead of Buick but I guess it was Chinese sales of Buicks keeping Chevy alive.
I’ve got a 2012 Buick Verano base level, and it gets going pretty quick for what it is.
GS still commands a premium in many markets. If you can get one, go for it. The final spec GS cars on the last generation (with the V6) are excellent too.
To be clear, I would have recommended GM RWD at the time they were made. G8, Caprice PPV, Camaro, ATS/CTS. They're all better...
... But today they're also much more expensive.
I daily a 2016 Regal Turbo Premium that I bought 4 years ago for $17k with 30k miles on it. I've put a little over 40K on it and it's been a very good car, only needed basic maintenance aside from a bad coil pack that failed, which that was a cheap fix.
The 2.0L Turbo is a zippy little engine, plenty of power for the size of the car (259HP, 295FT Torque), great on the highway, and honestly she's no slouch when you step on it! It does get mediocre gas mileage and you do notice a difference in power if you don't get premium fuel (it's not required, but recommended). The interior is a step above a Malibu, the backseat is cramped for adult sized humans, but heated leather seats and Apple CarPlay are standard features on that trim.
If you're thinking this car will be a couch on wheels like older Buicks, you'll be disappointed. Like others pointed out, this is basically a rebadged Opel Insignia with a few extra niceties to make it "upscale", so you can expect a more firm European ride and handling from it.
I don't have any brand loyalty or favorites, so I look at the Regal as a solid European car with an American car depreciated price tag. I'm happy with mine and I'll keep it until it's a rusted pile of crap that isn't road worthy. Hope this helps!
My dad bought a brand new 1972 Buick Limited when I was a kid. Fanciest car I'd ever seen. Power everything, leather, all the gadgets. It was eventually stolen and burnt to a crisp by some gangsters my dad pissed off.
What y'alls favorite Buick of all time? I'd have to say for me it's 1973 Riviera or a GNX
1964 Skylark
Metallic mint green paint?
Powder blue. Mom drove me to the hospital in it with my appendix about to burst. Made it with time to spare. Lol.
Haha!
1965 Riviera GS
GS 455
A friend had a 1970 GSX. Bought it for $20k, did a frame-off restoration, won a ton of awards, and then sold it for $200k. That car was amazing!
Jesus, talk about an investment 🤣. Thats awesome
That's awesome!
best buick sedan
Key Considerations for Choosing the Best Buick Sedan:
Model Options: Buick primarily offers the Buick Regal and Buick LaCrosse as sedans. The Regal is sportier, while the LaCrosse focuses on comfort and luxury.
Performance: Look for engines that provide a good balance of power and fuel efficiency. The Regal offers a turbocharged option for a sportier drive, while the LaCrosse typically has a V6 engine for smooth performance.
Interior Quality: Buick is known for its upscale interiors. Check for materials, comfort, and technology features like infotainment systems and connectivity options.
Safety Ratings: Review safety ratings from organizations like the IIHS and NHTSA. Features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking can enhance safety.
Space and Comfort: Consider passenger space and trunk capacity. The LaCrosse usually offers more room and comfort for passengers, while the Regal is sportier but slightly less spacious.
Recommendation: The Buick LaCrosse is often regarded as the best Buick sedan for its combination of comfort, luxury, and spaciousness. It provides a smooth ride, a well-appointed interior, and a strong focus on passenger comfort. If you prefer a sportier feel, the Buick Regal is a great choice, especially with its turbocharged engine option and agile handling.
