TL;DR
Full Coverage Options
For those seeking full coverage, several concealers were highlighted as effective. The IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye is frequently mentioned for its ability to cover even the darkest circles, although some users find it too thick [2:1]. MAC Pro Longwear Concealer is another favorite, known for its durability and non-creasing properties, making it suitable for long wear without setting powder
[2:6],
[5:10]. Additionally, Clio Kill Cover Liquid Concealer is noted for its exceptional coverage
[4:3].
Hydrating and Natural Finish
For those looking for a more natural finish, the Haus Labs Triclone Skin Tech Hydrating + De-Puffing Concealer is praised for its natural, dewy look and ease of application [1:1]. The Dior Backstage Concealer also offers a medium coverage with a luminous finish, ideal for a more natural appearance when layered over a corrector
[5:1]. Glossier Stretch Concealer is another option for a lightweight and seamless finish, particularly appreciated for its flexibility in coverage
[5:8].
Budget-Friendly and Versatile Options
For those on a budget, the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer is recommended for its effectiveness against hereditary dark circles [2:5]. Milani Conceal & Perfect is noted for its excellent coverage and affordability, making it a frequent repurchase for many
[3:2]. Sephora Collection Bright Future Gel Serum Under Eye Concealer is another affordable option that provides light to medium coverage with a hydrating formula
[5:5].
Application Techniques
Application techniques can significantly impact the effectiveness of a concealer. Warming up products like the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye between fingers before application can help with blending [2:1]. Using a color corrector underneath, such as the Bobbi Brown Corrector, can enhance the concealer's performance, especially for severe dark circles
[5:1]. Setting the concealer lightly with powder can prevent creasing, although some products like MAC Pro Longwear are designed to minimize this issue without powder
[5:10].
Best concealer for dark circles that doesn't crease
Hi all!
Newbie here. I'm sure this has been asked a million times, so apologies.....
How come celebrities under eyes always look flawless?!
I have had semi noticeable circles since I was a teenager as I'm pretty pasty, but as I getting older (42 and 3 kids later) it seems harder to cover. I am not very wrinkly. I have a good skincare routine. I use retinol, gly acid, peptides, spf day cream, etc but around my eyes are starting to get a little creased.
I have tried most of the top rated concealers - Nars, MAC, It Cosmetics, Maybelline, Benefit, Becca...but it always seems to show through.
I have colour correctors, but this just helps with creasing.
I use It Cosmetics CC cream or No 7 hydraluminous foundation and bye bye under eye most days.
Does anyone have a super duper product/technique that you swear by to cover dark circles?
any Tarte concealers are genuinely a gamechanger!
I hardly ever see anyone post about Dermablend Cover Care concealer but it’s been my holy grail for about 5 years now, I use it all over as my base and it’s great for covering dark circles and hyperpigmentation
Tarte clay color corrector is my new holy grail. As with all concealers, application is key. Apply to back of hand to warm up and prime the brush. Lay down one (MAYBE two) very thin layers. Let set for a few minutes. Crinkle your eyes and clean up any excess that forms within your natural creases. Lay down a very light layer of loose powder to prep, then apply pressed powder (or loose powder if your skin has deeper-set lines or just doesn’t play nice).
Adityamadiraju on TikTok has some absolutely amazing tutorials on application (and they’re done with enough sass that you’ll never forget!)
I use the haus labs concealer and have natural creases under my eye. What I learned that works best for me is to apply a dot, sheer it out with a metal spatula, tap in with a concealer brush, let it set, and remove any excess that creases, and I’m done.
The haus labs concealer is also my favorite!
The TRICLONE™ SKIN TECH HYDRATING + DE-PUFFING CONCEALER is unbelievable. I tested on a whim and was blown away. Super small dot, patted in and beautiful, no crease, natural, dewy luminous coverage. The color match was easy and flawless blend. So happy I tried it. I have all the concealers. Glossier, Amazing, Catrice, Nars and they’re not bad but the Haus is on another level.
Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion is highly, highly underrated.
Hello everyone! I have extremely dark hereditary dark circles. Like no matter what I use you can still see them. I do not have deep set eyes! I have tried to colour correct them as well.
I have tried:
NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer
Wet n Wild photo focus (Current)
Jeffree Star Cosmetics Magic Star
Tarte Shape tape
I am down for any suggestions!
EDIT TO ADD: I have very pale skin, I been told my entire life to “sleep more” I sleep more than the average person probably haha! My eye circles are so dark that it really does look like I got punched in both eyes. I have never felt comfortable wearing 0 makeup as the comments I get make me feel self conscious.
IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye will cover anything. I find it a little too thick and tacky for me personally but you wouldn’t be able to see even the darkest circles through it.
I use to work at Ulta and IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye is the best for concealing dark circles. It has been my go to for over 5 years. I recommend warming it up between your ring fingers before applying. Makes is easier to blend and cuts down on the tackiness.
Can you wear this without any other makeup? I want to cover dark circles but I don’t want to wear foundation everyday 🙃
I am cursed with the same dark circle affliction so I feel your pain. I've tried all of the expensive brands + some of the ones you mentioned (Jeffree *, Tarte, and Wet n Wild), but none of them completely concealed my circles. Like, you could always see them even if it was annoyingly barely visible. On a whim I bought this one on Amazon and it works better than any of the expensive name brands for me. I hope you find what you're looking for because it was such a confidence booster for me to finally completely get rid of my dark eye circles (even though the only one who probably cared or noticed was me lol)
Dark circles can be tricky to cover up, but I've found a product that has worked wonders for me. jane iredale's Under-Eye Concealer is what I consider my 'Holy Grail'. It manages to provide high coverage without feeling heavy or cakey and is great for those annoying dark circles. Plus, it's hydrating so it doesn't settle into fine lines. But remember, skincare is just as important when dealing with dark circles so ensure you're well hydrated and getting enough sleep!
Drak circles are hard to hide, i see that you tried many concealers just to hide those dark spots, personally I like the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer. It's a game-changer, even for hereditary dark circles. Give it a shot and embrace your natural beauty....
Omg you have to try Mac Pro longwear concealer in the pump. It smells like paint but it’s my freaking holy grail. You can come personally sue me if you don’t love it. I’m telling you. I have tried so many things. This concealer is the absolute best.
Agree with above commenter about it cosmetics bye bye under eye but two things- it creases like a bitch and it stays sticky. It also feels so, so heavy. It also tends to break me out. It’s almost too brightening too. But I mean I can see the appeal. Especially during colder weather.
For lighter makeup days I like using Bobbi brown brightening concealer.
Edited to add a pic of me with the pro longwear concealer. I have super dark circles naturally also and am very fair! I never set the concealer either.
I'm now searching for this concealer 🤣 is it especially made for under eye, or just a general concealer? When I Google it I find 'MAC pro longwear concealer' Is that it?
I honestly haven’t tried anything by MAC since highschool. I think I am totally gonna try this one out.
I also completely forgot I did try the IT cosmetics as well and I experienced the same as you. Super greasy feeling and creased.
Thank you for your input!! 💗
Lmao "That is smeels li ke paint" and "that you can sue me if it does not work"
You are so sweet. I am going to order some ASAP! You are also very pretty and you cannot see any under eye circles!
Hi. I’ve been looking for a concealer that is medium-full coverage. I’m currently wearing MUFE self setting concealer in 33 since it’s peachy enough to cover my dark circles but it does run kinda dark on me and instead of making me look awake, I look even more tired.
I’ve tried Maybelline Fit Me in shade 20 sand but it’s really light in coverage. Age Rewind in Sand works better but tends to crease terribly and wears off within 2-3 hours.
In my options I’m considering Nars Custard and Dior Forever Concealer in 2WO but I’m open to any suggestions.
For reference I wear: Maybelline Superstay in 128 Estee Lauder in 2W2 Rare Beauty in 230N
Thank you!!
Milani Conceal & Perfect has excellent coverage with or without a color corrector -- I use Light Natural best as a Medium to Light Medium Neutral Olive. Not heavy at all and a frequent repurchase for me.
Kosas's concealer is very nice and can be layered in coverage -- moisturizing formula.
Does Milani lean yellow or peachy? Have heard great stuff from Kosas but sadly I don’t have access to it
I would also say it's a brightening shade for Light Medium to Medium depths.
Contrary to what most mua recommend, i find using peach tone concealers somehow accentuate my dark circles instead. Not sure if its due the peachy tone clashing with my olive skintone, making the discoloration appear even more obvious.
I was using the catrice camouflage cream concealer previously. The slight yellow tone looks way more natural against my skintone. Its highly affordable too so might be worth a try.
Maybe you need a different color to correct/neutralize, like the yellow you mention. I know dark circles have an undertone and perhaps yours don’t need peach. If yellow works for you, amazing then! Yellow pulls gray on me btw.
I use too faced btw multi-use concealer. It has great coverage and is not drying under eyes.
The only reason I bought the concealer from MUFE was because I panicked on choosing the shade from Too Faced 😂 I was between golden beige and vanilla (for brightening effect) but I can’t make returns where I live, specially while buying online and MUFE was 70% off and I made my choice right there.
You should try bobbi brown corrector in an appropriate shade (maybe peach) and get a concealer that matches or is 1-2 shades lighter than ur face.
Yeeees! I had thought of it but couldn’t make up my mind on the shade but definitely peach was my first choice. Thank you so much!!
No worries! I have included a swatch of bb peach in a concealer swatch post I did recently, if you need to see one. :)
I have very bad genetic dark circles and lately I’ve been covering them with a coral colored lipstick, then I blend it in with my BB and then on top I do maybelline age rewind concealer and bake it with banana powder and it covers my circles really nicely.
I tried that and it got messy 😂 i cannot bake for my life, even if I hydrate my undereyes it looks awful. But good to know you found a technique that works for you!
I have MAJOR dark circles under my eyes; to the point where you can even see tiny veins. I haven’t tried or own many concealers and am quite inexperienced with makeup. Any brand suggestions for full coverage (and preferably long lasting) concealer will be appreciated!❤️
Shake hands! I also have major dark circles under my eyes that defies every concealer I’ve tried EXCEPT for innisfree concealer stick. It has very very good coverage and sticks to my skin all day long. Other concealers I’ve tried include Nars radiant creamy concealer, MAC concealer stick, seam liquid concealer, Maybelline fit me. These all failed to hide my dark circles completely. Only innisfree. Literally my savior
The Clio Kill Cover Liquid Concealer is the most full coverage concealer I've ever tried!
The Saem Cover Perfection Ideal Concealer Duo :) My undereyes are quite dry but the stick end of the concealer works really well to cover up and it's not dehydrating. I go in with the cream concealer side for extra coverage too
Onomie is the only undereye concealer in the world worth a damn imo
I really like the Skinfood Salmon concealer, it lasts a long time. It is in a little pot to be applied with your finger and I keep it in my purse for touch ups. I have the same dark circles as you.
I don’t wear a ton of makeup anymore, but have severe dark circles that I’d like to keep covered. What concealer would be best for a natural look while still actually covering? I’m 40 with semi-dry under eyes and a few fine lines. I also currently use the Bobbi Brown corrector stick, but looking for something to put on top of it. Thanks!
Sephora Collection Bright Future Gel Serum Under Eye Concealer. The coverage is light to medium, looks like skin, and is actually hydrating under the eyes. It's a very thin formula and would be great for layering on top of a color correcter.
Easily the best concealer I've used!
I love it so much. I’ve been even using all over my face (dotting it on forehead, cheek area, neck etc) when I don’t feel like using foundation fully.
The fenty color corrector is my FAV for layering under lightweight concealers. The packaging sucks though so be careful not to squeeze too much out on the first use lol
It only creases if you don't set with powder, but so does every non-matte concealer
I like the glossier stretch concealer
I had high hopes for it but was so extremely creasy on my 50 yr old undereyes. Didn't dry down and my efforts to set were futile.
This is what I use! The dewy finish helps. Go a bit lighter than you normally would!
Honestly MAC prolong wear. Just use the tiniest amount. It will last you forever! I never set it with a powder and it does not crease. Go to the MAC store and have them color match you. It’s great natural coverage.
That stuff is great, it’s so concentrated one pump (maybe a smidge more) can take place of foundation completely.
Yes! And if you put it on in a very light layer and blend with a sponge it can be lightweight and seamless. I feel like the people that don’t like it cake it on like a normal concealer.
A vote for Dior backstage concealer. It’s medium coverage and luminous. When I pair it with the Bobbi Brown corrector, it looks marvelous.
Hi all, I need some advice on a concealer for dark circles that won’t cake or settle into fine lines. I have tried the Tarte Shape Tape (it cakes on me) and I have tried Nars Radiant (I like a bit more coverage). Would love to hear what you use, along with any other products or brushes that you would recommend with it since I am in need of a new one! Thanks in advance. ❤️ Edit: Thank you everyone who has responded! So many good recommendations, I appreciate it!
try the caliray color corrector!! been hearing great things about
Second this. Also Bobbi brown concealer stick.
I just returned it! It didn’t do anything for my dark circles 😞
This color corrector is amazing. I struggled with the huda beauty color correctors not being the right shade and being too much (too pink or too orange) and caliray was AMAZING
Yes I was about to suggest this, for me in cool sunrise (it's a peachy pink tone), then I put bobbi brown stick concealer in a fair shade over top to get my "skin" colour back.
It's not sephora but my HG concealer is Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Multi Use Concealer.
Same here! I prefer it to almost every luxury formula I’ve tried.
Too faced born this way concealer
NARS creamy radiant or elf hydrating camo with a little bit of pinkish powder (I use eyeshadow!) on top
Dior forever skin correct. Light weight, full coverage and hydrating
Hi, basically I’m almost 38, have lost 11st and have SUCH bad deep, dark circles under my eyes. I’ve tried Lumi eye and tear trough but due to my weight loss it doesn’t work ☹️. So I need a miracle concealer! I currently use MAC but it doesn’t seem to be doing a thing. I’m desperate.
I have these too, unfortunately they're hard to cover because it's also the shape as well as the colour, but I find using a good colour corrector, a more 'dewey' concealer, and setting spray keeps the area looking bright when wearing makeup 😊 anything too heavy doesnt look right there for me personally.
I recently tried the soap and glory kick ass concealer and colour corrector which I'm loving at the moment!
I also find dark eye makeup make it look worse, so I tent to stick to lighter colours, and bangs also make it look worse because of the shadow it can cast under your eyes.
You need to colour correct first (I have the same problem) for my skin tone I use orange - papaya from Huda Beauty - but I think you would need pink. Set it with translucent powder and then put your concealer on top.
Thank you- I’ve tried colour correction and currently have a pink-ish Elf one. I’m sick of my bags making me look like I don’t sleep or drink water when I do both plenty! 🤣🤣
My circles look a lot like yours (and also first appeared after some weight loss, although menopause has certainly contributed!) and I use LA Girl pale pink corrector followed by KVD Good Apple concealer. Jones Road neutraliser pencil in pink also works and is good for getting into the inner corners, but the LA Girl is a lot cheaper.
It's also worth checking you don't have any vitamin/mineral deficiency contributing to them before just covering them up. Can sometimes happen with a big Wright loss
Thank you- what’s the best way to do this!? I’m clueless 🤣
You can ask your GP for a blood test but they might not do it unless you have any specific symptoms. I had one done last year as part of a general health check after joining a new practice. If they won't do it, you could pay for one privately with a firm like Numan - they send you a kit to send a sample back and then test it.
I would love some advice on a concealer to purchase. TBH I’m very likely going to purchase from Ulta because I have a 20% coupon right now but if it’s a really amazing product that’s only at Sephora I will highly consider it.
So I have very dark circles under my eyes and just generally all around my eyes is very dark and has been for my whole life. I have used the Becca under eye color corrector for years underneath my concealer and it does help. I’ve used the tarte shape tape concealer for many years now and I really like it but I’m wondering if something new might be even better? I’ve tried the kosas super creamy concealer and it covered pretty well but it creases pretty badly on me. I’ve also tried the rare beauty brightening concealer and it doesn’t cover super well and it also creases pretty badly.
I have very oily skin that breaks out easily and gets irritated. I’ve considered the tarte shape tape radiant concealer and the maracuja ceaseless concealer but I don’t know if they’ll crease badly on me. I’m open to any brands and suggestions and if there’s a mini size that I can purchase to try something out that’s even better!
A concealer alone might not do the trick if you’re not colour-correcting first to cancel out the darkness.
Since dark circles often stem from genetics, you could also look into skincare specifically formulated to brighten the under-eye area.
From Ulta- Bobbi brown color corrector stick. Natasha Denona concealer. Possibly the new Double wear concealer depending on your dryness.
I love the Kulfi concealers. I have so many shades. They are amazing and SO underrated imho. One thing I have found is that if I pat it into my skin with my fingers, I avoid creasing (like if I used a beauty blender). Then I set it with powder right away. (Oh, I also use two shades of the Huda Beauty correctors beforehand!) 🫶
I love these and the Huda correctors as well. I have two shades of the concealer and two shades of Huda’s correctors.
So happy to hear that another fellow Sephora girlie feels the same way! 🥹💖🥰
Natasha denona
I have a Natasha denona sample and that is going to be my next purchase concealer. I did also get the Live Tinted concealer and love that as well. Very light and hydrating but covers my bags well.
Nars soft matte concealer
I really love this concealer with my whole heart. It will always be a rebuy.
Do you think it would work well on dry eyes? I'm between this and the glossier concealer.
First you need an orange or peach color corrector. You apply that to the whole area and then you can apply medium or full coverage concealer depending on the look you’re going for. Any concealers will Work once you have a good color corrector base! Once you blend it out set it with a setting powder and brush it off immediately so it doesn’t look cakey. You should be good after that! Some really good color correctors I’ve found are Huda beauty faux filter, fenty and LA girl is a classic cheap but amazing quality one!
came here to say this, you need to correct the blue/purple tone first with the orange or peach THEN conceal
I apply the anastasia one you see there as a color corrector because it has a light and blendable formula, then I apply concealer. Sadly in my country we have little to no brands with color correcting products. No Elf or L.A Girl or else. That L'oreal infallible palette disappointed me to the core, and surprisingly so because I LOVED the infallible concealer-which they now discontinued. The latter is the only thing that worked for me.
You can also try a peach colored lipstick if you can’t find a color corrector!
It cosmetics bye bye undereye is my go to
Bye bye undereye is a great product! Once my skin started to get “mature” I switched to NARS under eye brightener.
Make sure you use a good primer based on skin type. My favorites are Smashbox or Laura Mercier.
How do you use the under eye brightener from NARS? I have it, and it’s been ending up patchy throughout the day. I use an IT cosmetics brush to apply to my undereye.
MAC pro longwear concealer is what we were trained to cover bruises with when I worked there. + a color corrector for underneath.
hello, if you have very big dark circles, start with an orange corrector and then, try the Huda beauty concealer, for my it’s the best and it’s not cakey :)
Should I get the Nars radiant and creamy concealer, or the elf camo concealer or the tarte shapetape?
For dark circles, a color corrector is probably better. It would take so much product to cover mine that it would be cakey if I was relying on concealer alone. I use a peach color corrector and then only need a minimal amount of concealer to hide everything. I’ve been using Ulta’s corrector fluid, but tons of brands offer options.
Yeah, I also use peach color corrector or else’s my undereyes look grey. Which concealer do you use over the color corrector tho?
Usually the Bare Minerals liquid concealer, sometimes their Barepro stick version but it’s a little dryer than the liquid.
I prefer the Laura mercier flawless fusion. The nars is great for brightening lightweight under eye coverage, but I don’t find it super great at concealing dark spots. The Tarte is too heavy imo for everyday use unless you wear a full coverage face everyday. Haven’t tried the elf.
I personally really like the Tarte shape tape! The trick is really to not use a lot of product. I like to dab a bit on the back of my hand, and then use my fingers to pick up just a tiny spot and then tap it over my dark spots/dark under eyes.
I've been using the shape tape for a while now, i tried their newer creamy version it blends out even better. You still have to use as little product as possible but the finish is even nicer.
Elf camo and shape tape are very similar, the downside to elf camo is that the shades are weird to figure out.
I use LOreal Infallible, also extremely similar to shape tape. I actually only use this for my base, don't use foundation at all.
I haven't tried Nars Radiant Creamy but I want to because my skin is getting a bit drier as I get older. I'll probably try it out this winter once my skin needs it.
Personally, tarte shape tape is my favorite! I have normal to dry skin but it’s the only concealer that covers my dark spots/dark circles and STAYS. I have a lot of acne scars and cystic acne pit scarring. A lot of concealers can look really heavy and or don’t stay put but shape tape works so well for me. I have tried so many concealers that are great initially but don’t have the staying power like shape tape. For hard to cover spots, I’ll dab a little concealer on the spot, leave it for 30 seconds before blending and I achieve more coverage that way. I actually find it lasts me a lot longer than other concealers because a little goes a long way! You could pair it with an under eye corrector. Something peachy under the eye to color correct then a little concealer! The elf camo concealers are good, but they break me out. I have sensitive acne prone skin though!
best concealers for dark circles
Key Considerations for Choosing Concealers for Dark Circles:
Formula Type: Look for creamy, hydrating formulas that won't settle into fine lines. Liquid or stick concealers are often best for under-eye areas.
Coverage: Choose a concealer with buildable coverage to effectively mask dark circles without looking cakey. Full coverage is ideal for severe discoloration.
Shade Selection: Opt for a shade that is one or two shades lighter than your foundation to brighten the under-eye area. Yellow or peach undertones can counteract blue or purple tones in dark circles.
Finish: Consider whether you prefer a matte or dewy finish. A dewy finish can help reflect light and make the area appear brighter.
Ingredients: Look for ingredients like caffeine, hyaluronic acid, or vitamin E, which can help reduce puffiness and hydrate the skin.
Top Recommendations:
Tarte Shape Tape Concealer: Known for its full coverage and long-lasting formula, it effectively conceals dark circles and has a wide range of shades.
NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer: Offers a creamy texture with buildable coverage and a radiant finish, perfect for brightening the under-eye area.
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser: A budget-friendly option that provides good coverage and has a sponge applicator for easy application.
Too Faced Born This Way Concealer: This concealer is hydrating and offers a natural finish, making it great for dry under-eye areas.
IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer: Full coverage and infused with skincare ingredients, this concealer is excellent for covering dark circles while also treating the skin.
Recommendation: If you're looking for a balance of quality and affordability, the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser is a fantastic choice. It’s easy to apply, blends well, and effectively brightens the under-eye area without breaking the bank.
