TL;DR
Myeongdong Recommendations
Wangbijib (왕비집) is highly recommended for its quality meat, galbi sauce, and side dishes. The staff are well-trained in grilling and speak multiple languages, making it a great choice for tourists [1:5]. Shin Seoul near Myeongdong station offers excellent charcoal-grilled meats, though it might be on the pricier side
[1:2]. However, some locals advise against eating BBQ in Myeongdong due to higher prices and tourist crowds
[1:6]
[4:2].
Authentic Local Spots
For an authentic experience away from the tourist areas, 상수김치 삼겹살 near Sangsu Station is praised for its delicious pork belly and brisket, along with kimchi [4:1]. 서래 갈매기살 offers galmaegisal, a unique cut of pork that tastes similar to beef, and is available at locations throughout Seoul
[3:1]. 돈나라돈통령 near Yongdu Station is recommended for solo travelers due to its small tables and less crowded atmosphere
[3:3].
Neighborhood Options
Many commenters suggest exploring different neighborhoods as most have good BBQ options without needing to travel far [5:4]. Itaewon has several popular spots, including Pig Restaurant 2
[4:3], while Hongdae offers smaller BBQ places suitable for solo diners
[3:2].
General Advice
When searching for Korean BBQ in Seoul, it's often best to choose busy places, as they usually indicate quality and authenticity [5:1]. Additionally, many BBQ restaurants serve meals meant for groups, so be aware of minimum order requirements if dining alone
[3:4]
[5:2].
Any where i can try really nice korean bbq here? Teokbokki place as well if you know any
For Korean BBQ I would highly recommend Shin Seoul near Myeongdong station. They have great meat and serve it up charcoal grilled at your table. It's not the cheapest place but the quality is excellent. For teokbokki (spicy rice cakes), I love Hasook right by the Myeongdong Cathedral, they make it really spicy and sour just how I like it.
Thank you 😊
go to haebangchon hongo near yongsan if youre a solo traveller! good kbbq, nice owner + they have a dog! :)
Instead of recommending special places to tourists, I prefer to suggest common franchise restaurants that are widely accepted in Korea. Try going to a restaurant called Hanam Pig (하남돼지).
It's famous and can be found in any bustling area. They grill the meat for you, so even if it's your first time, it won't be difficult.
Can i go solo here? Also out of topic, do you know the walking tours or like hire a friend or exchange language thing?
I don't think you'll be stopped but I'm not entirely sure. Since Myeongdong is full of tourists, I don't think you'll get kicked out. I'm not sure if you can hire a guide, but if you have any question, feel free to send me a PM. I work near Myeongdong, so I know the area well.
I second this. We were in Seoul last week and tried this one in Gangnam. I’m not a huge pork kbbq fan but I am now after this place!
Wangbijib!! 왕비집 is one of the hidden gems for KBBQ in Myeongdong!!! Whenever I see a reddit thread asking this - i cannot suggest strongly enough. Wangbijib has the best meat, galbi sauce and side dishes. Honestly, all the staffs speak english and chinese by default and are highly trained to grill for you.
Their hanwoo is just insane and you can always book their table through instgram DM. They have many stores in Myeongdong area and they will MAKE SURE you will be seated and get your food.
I literally avoid myeongdong at all costs, I just go there for the cathedral. It’s literally so packed and everything is overpriced. Don’t go KBBQ in myeongdong. I personally liked the kkbq places I found near the places I always stay (sinseol dong and jamsil)
Hey all,
We used to live in Texas and used to love visiting different barbecue places.
While Seoul has awesome food all around, it's a bit difficult to find a good authentic barbecue place. A lot of places say they make "Texas Barbecue" but all the places I've been to...... have been extremely disappointing...
I think Koreans have a different idea of what "American barbecue" is?
Anyways, would love to hear any recommendations on some good and authentic barbecue places in Seoul! Thanks!
p.s. Also, if anyone knows any good and authentic Mexican or Tex-Mex restaurants, that would also be great!
Edit: I meant to say "Any good authentic Texas/US style barbecue places in Seoul". Didn't mean to offend anyone or imply one is better than the other. For me, "K-barbecue" is just "고기집" so it didn't even register as a barbecue place for me haha. I love Korean style "고기집" by the way :)
Not sure about the barbecue but as a H-town native, the Vatos Tacos in Seoul literally brought me back to the tex-mex cantina by my high school that never carded for margs and had half off nachos. There’s one in Itaewon but I prefer the one located in COEX Starfield Mall! Yummy place to eat and get tipsy to ease the pain from the money spent at the mall lmao
Bbq? In Korea? Never heard of it. .

Sorry - meant to say "Texas/US style barbecue places". To be fair, Koreans don't refer to "K-barbecue" places as barbecue places amongst each other. They call it "고기집" or "meat house / place". Anyways sorry about the confusion!
I'm from Texas!! Cent Grill is by far the best I have ever tried in Seoul! It's worth the price and the wait!
Seconded.
I've been to pretty much every hyped place and cent grill is by far the best (R.I.P. Sweet Oak)
whaddaya mean RIP sweat Oak. The place in Wonju? they closed down???
Looks like its still up on Naver though
Lived in Austin, TX for 7 years. The brisket at Austin BBQ here isn’t bad but Hill House is my current go-to for bbq:
[Naver Map] Hill House 경기 고양시 덕양구 동헌로 385-18 힐하우스 https://naver.me/G5QAZ7cC
Coffee is great too!
This place in Itaewon is really good: https://naver.me/GkKJEcVj, highly recommend.
Haven't been to the others but don't bother with JPs or Victor's. You'll be very orry you made the trip. Likewise, manimal in itaewon is very popular but very meh and overpriced.
Yes, Pyeongtaek and Osan are pretty far away but we have a big American community. You should come spend some time here! I'd appreciate your reviews of all these places to decide how authentic it is.
Yes this one! I'm not sure if they do reservations or if you can call ahead, when I went last time my BF and I had to wait like 30ish minutes? But I literally teared up when I tasted the food. Made me feel like I was back in Waller County, Texas!
There's a place in Itaewon and about 3 to 5 places in Pyeongtaek. You have to go where the Americans typically hang out, spend money, and start businesses.

Taking a solo trip to Seoul from Jeolla and obviously gonna want to hit up a spot for K-BBQ. I feel a little awkward taking up a big table meant for a group or ordering dishes meant to be shared, does anyone have recs for places that are good for just one person?
hongdae has good options for small BBQ places. I wouldn't worry about taking up a table. just do you.
You should definitely check out 돈나라돈통령 near 용두역. They've got small tables and are not crowded usually. Their pork belly is soooo delicious. You're welcome.
I wouldn’t worry about taking up the space. Most places have a minimum order though, usually you have to order at least three servings
서래 갈매기살. If you have never had galmaegisal, oh my god (pork, but tastes more like beef). It's so delicious, and this place has the best marinade I have ever tasted. 마포갈매기 is okay also, but not as good imo. They are both chains located all over Seoul.
Hey, am in Myeongdong area but willing to travel around as the train system is so good. We are here for a few days and want to go to some good BBQ places.
Don't eat in Myeongdong, everything there is overpriced. You're better off going to nearly any neighborhood for BBQ and can find plenty of great restaraunts all over.
Cheers. Only did the street food in Myeongdong. Thank you for this.
That’s the most over priced.

The best bbq I've had is 상수김치 삼겹살 right next to 상수역.
It's halfway in the basement, looks a bit dingy, but is ALWAYS popular and busy. Super super good pork belly and brisket, delicious kimchi, and good service. You don't normally see many foreigners there, so it's really a hidden gem.

Any recommendations for a good place to get some authentic Korean bbq? I'd rather get a recommendation from locals than from Google or yelp
If you go a bit north there's a place called Gowoondon and is pretty good. It's close to a rooftop bar (literally 10 seconds away) called "Saeseoul". Worth venturing out for both. Only downside is that they only serve in sets of 2+ people, if you're going alone.
Do you know what they call Korean BBQ in Korea?
BBQ.
fucking power move right there.
Pick a neighborhood. Very few BBQ places are worth traveling hours across town for. There'll be decent ones everywhere.
Most of the reviews on google are from locals.
In... Seoul? It would be difficult to find inauthentic Korean bbq, I would think. Just go to the place that is the most crowded.
hello! any good korean bbq places to recommend? with both beef and pork!! preferable near city centre cos im staying near jonggak and euljiro 1-ga :-) something like Wangbijib or Yuktongryeong etc
EDIT: with thick cuts if possible :-) (not too expensive)
Just go anywhere really. It's all good, it's all nice to experience. They all have the meat you're asking for and it's pretty clear which are cheap or aren't
This literally isn't helpful at all, at least give something, "oh I usually go here XYZ."
Maybe next time try and be helpful if you comment?
How is it clear which ones are which? The sign? Poster outside? Spare parts over here, sheesh.
Because they've done zero research themselves. There are thousands of bbq places in Seoul, if you run into one it's easy to spot for anyone
This website lists a lot of them
Hey, I'm looking for some recommendations on where to get the best Hanwoo in Seoul with a budget of 100,000 - 150,000 won per person.
Based on research I've done so far, these are some places I may consider:
- Samwon Garden
- Wangbijib
- Changgo 43
- 경천애인2237
- 일편등심 홍대본점
Born and Bred seems to be out of our budget and a little far, same with Mongtan. Another question I have is would I need to make a reservation for these places, and what would be the best way to do that as a foreigner without a Korean number?
I went to Mongtan yesterday and for two people it was 164k won. Just order the ribs (2-3 orders per person is plenty). It's 1000% worth going!
https://goo.gl/maps/VZ9ZM2eLNGmiQfST9 Majang Meat Market if it's not showing up properly for you
Have you thought about visiting here or is it too informal?
I'm definitely considering it! I heard the prices tend to be cheaper since it's a market and you're able to select your own cuts of meat from various butchers, but it does seem further away from most of the places we're trying to go to.
I heard you can contact Born and Bred through Instagram to make a reservation.
For reservations you can either try calling yourself or ask the concierge at the hotel/the host of your Airbnb if they could call/make a reservation for you.
Those places you listed you can just walk in. I've always recommended 2237, it's a good place. They age their beef.
I wouldn't go to Samwon, it's on the higher side.
If you have a choice just go to Born and Bred, the non speakeasy of course. Casual dining there isn't expensive. 300,000W for 2 is good enough.
Hi everyone, I will be in Korea next week and am on the lookout for BBQ restaurants in Seoul that serve chicken and/or seafood as neither I nor my boyfriend eat beef, pork, lamb etc
Your recommendations, insights and suggestions would be valued.
Thank you!
I think foreigners need to look up the actual names of meals. “Korean BBQ” is used abroad for a very wide range of foods which could be anything. Many times, y’all mean “samgyeopsal” 삼겹살 which is the most common type. But there’s also ogyeopsal, kalmegisal, etc. These are collectively known as 고기집 (literally “meat house”) but almost always its beef and pork.
For an alternative, I suggest you look into dalk galbi 닭 갈비 which is a chicken dish. Also 찜닭 is another awesome chicken dish. I wouldn’t call them “bbq” but have seen plenty of visitors call them this due to how it’s prepared in a central pot.
If you want chicken bbq (as opposed to stew, soup, fried chicken, etc.), then you wanna try dalkgalbi / 닭갈비. It has nothing to do with ribs. Some places do it on a pan, allowing you to get a fried rice after on the same pan. Other places do it on a grill, giving you a different expereince. One of my fav foods in the country. Very widely served, though not as much as fried chicken or bbq pork.
Look for 꼬치 restaurants. They're skewers cooked on a rotating grill. A lot of them are named something 양꼬치 (lamb) but you can often find places that also serve 닭 (chicken) and/or 새우 (shrimp).
There are also a few eel bbq places.
은화계 in Sinsa is actual grilled chicken like most meat places have pork belly
For seafood there are 2 that I recommend, one would be jogabi, and the other would be near Euljiro 1/3 or Myeongdong.

I posted some months ago about Korean BBQ recommendations, and a few people recommend Seoul House Restaurant. We have now stayed in Wellington a few times and we always make sure to visit Seoul House for dinner. Just posting this is making me drool for more of their steak and BBQ. For anyone else looking for a Korean BBQ establishment, don’t look past Seoul House. Great food and friendly staff.
Seoul house is great!
Every time we have walked away very satisfied, while feeling 2kg heavier because we always over indulge lol
If you like Korean food in general may I suggest Han River in Lower Hutt. I have Korean friends who also love this place.
That's our go-to. The food can sometimes take a while to come out, but its so good that we don't mind.
Absolutely love Han River, very happy they expanded next door!
Expensive
Thanks, I will add this to my list!
I used to go there a few times a year when my kids were little.
The pork + glass noodles combo was my #1 choice.
Our family will try this next time 😁
I walk past here all the time and never knew the food looked that good!
Besides the BBQ, the Korean fried chicken and steak are amazing.
No problem 😁 thanks to Reddit I also discovered this establishment
My wife and I spent a few weeks in Asia last month. Our final night in Korea we some of the best steak I've ever tasted. The 12 hour flight would be worth it for more of this steak.
The capital of South Korea is called Seoul btw
Ugh 💀
I’m sorry like genuinely but I couldn’t not do it 😭
This looks amazing! What sauces do they serve it with? Also, how much does this set you back in Souele 😊?
Shut up and take my money. Do they dash?
They did have Uber in Souele, so why not Uber eats lol.
Seoul?
I thought souele was the name of the fancy restaurant
