What Redditors are Saying

Best Korean Skincare Brands

TL;DR

  • Popular brands: COSRX, Missha, Dear Klairs, Pyunkang Yul, Beauty of Joseon [1:1]
  • Olive Young is a great place to find popular products in Korea [4:1]

Popular Korean Skincare Brands

Several Korean skincare brands are frequently recommended for their effectiveness and variety. COSRX is highly praised for its low pH wash and hydrocolloid patches [1:1]. Missha is noted for its Tension Pact and Time Revolution Ampoule [1:2][5:1]. Dear Klairs offers products like sesame oil cleanser and night calming cream [1:1]. Pyunkang Yul and Beauty of Joseon are also well-regarded, with Beauty of Joseon's Dynasty Cream being highlighted for its luxurious feel [1:1].

Specific Product Recommendations

For those seeking specific product recommendations, users have suggested the Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum and Missha Time Revolution Ampoule for hydration [5:1]. Medicube's Triple Collagen Cream and Overnight Mask are recommended for achieving glass skin [5:2]. Sulwhasoo is another popular brand, particularly for its First Care Activating Serum and Ginseng Cream, though it is on the pricier side [5:2].

Shopping Tips

Olive Young is a popular store in Korea where many top-selling skincare products can be found [4:1]. It's recommended to check out their best sellers for popular choices among locals. Additionally, visiting flagship stores such as Sulwhasoo's in Bukchon can offer unique shopping experiences with added perks [5:2].

Considerations for Different Skin Types

Different brands cater to various skin types and concerns. For dry skin, Beauty of Joseon and Dr. Jart's products are recommended [1:1]. For oily skin, Holika Holika and Biore might be more suitable [1:1]. Anua's 2% BHA Toner and Azelaic Acid are good options for exfoliating and acne treatment [3:2].

Additional Insights

While some users emphasize the importance of individual products over brands, it's common to try signature products from a brand first [2:1][2:3]. Exploring different products and finding what works best for your skin type and concerns is key to building an effective skincare routine.

I tried the Bazzaal winter K beauty box and I am obsessed. What are your favorite Korean skincare brands?

Missha, Innisfree and Glow Recipe. Missha’s Tension Pact, IF’s Volcanic Clusters pore clearing masks, and GR’s watermelon line are my K-beauty holy grail products!

Beauty of Joseon is great for dry skin. Others have said COSRX, Missha, Dear Klairs, and Pyunkang Yul. Another few I’d recommend is Dr. Jarts, I’m From, Holika Holika, and Biore if you have more oily skin.

I’d absolutely recommend COSRX’s low pH wash and hydrocolloid patches. Dear Klairs sesame oil cleanser and night calming cream. Beauty of Joseons Dynasty cream is amazingly luxurious feeling.

These days, people mix with olive young products + korean pharmacy items

Each brand has a main product, and if you like that one, you tend to try more from the brand. But just because their signature product is good doesn’t always mean the others are too. In my case, my friend said Cosrx products were good, so I tried their cream, but it really didn’t work for me. On the other hand, I had no expectations for Mary&May’s mask pack, but I ended up loving it and even bought their toner. As for Roundlab, I loved the sunscreen, but the toner wasn’t that great.

Ive been to Korea couple of times and use Korean skincare since 8+ years. It’s not really about the brands its about the actual product. You can enjoy one product from a brand but dislike everything else.

Best Brands for Skincare???

Posted by Any_Papaya_5985 · in r/KoreanBeauty · 4 months ago

I have recently started using korean skincare and found it is amazing for my skin. However, there are just so many options that I don't know what is even good or worth trying? I have combination skin and acne prone. I am trying to clear up my acne (primarily on my chin) and then strengthen my skin barrier.

Any recommendations for brands or products? Or a simple routine for skincare?

Anua 2% BHA Toner is good for exfoliating once or twice a week. Anua 10+ Azelaic Acid is a good active to add to help clear up your acne. You can use it daily as tolerated. For hydration, I prefer COSRX Full Fit Propolis Toner over SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Asiatica Ampoule Facial Serum. SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Poremizing Fresh Ampoule also have a better formula but I never tried it. I don’t know what you like or don’t like about your foaming cleanser and moisturizer so I don’t have any better recommendations for that.

Theres no one best, we’ll all have our own personal favourites. For me (F, 40, Caucasian, Oily combination) I love S.Nature, Needly and Ma:nyo. I love anything hydrating and moisturising and stay away from over hyped, trends from TikToks because influencers are paid to say they love something. Sheet mask wise the Abib heartleaf gummy masks will always be a winner.

Yeah, I try to avoid the Tiktok recommendations. The one I have been using is Skin1004, but I don't feel like it is doing anything for me.

The brand in general or a specific product? I don’t know what people with acne tend to need. I think we all need hydration both skincare and with drinking enough water. Reducing caffeine really did wonders for my skin. Needly is a nice simple brand, their daily toner pads are so refreshing and juicy!

4 upvotes on reddit
cumin_sacrifice · 4 months ago

I tried the Ma:nyo oil cleanser, and it gave me a gnarly case of perioral dermatitis that I needed antibiotic for almost three months to clear. 🥲

Needly is a new brand for me— I’ve never heard of it! Are there any specific products from them that you like?

GlitteringCarousel27 · 4 months ago

Your username is brilliant 🤣 Perfect example of why theres no one best brand or product because ours skin and bodies are so different but I’m so sorry that happened to you! Sounds nasty! I tried Needlys Daily toner pads last year because the ones i usually bought were out of stock and i keep buying them because they are so juicy and moisturising. No fancy ingredients or fragrances, great size too. S.Natures Aqua Oasis toner is my holy grail though, that has hands down been my best find and I have a stock pile of it so I never run out. It comes with a squalene moisturiser and that burned me so bad, i don’t think my skin likes squalene. Mediheals Madecassoside pads were another no no for my skin. BePlain’s mung bean foaming cleanser is another fave of mine. If you’re ever looking lip tints I will always recommend Peripera.

I recommend óngredients skin barrier and calming lotion as a moisturiser/lotion. It’s lightweight and calming, so it might be a good option for hotter weather.

If anyone here knows - what top 5 products would you recommend I pickup while in Korea? Ideally lower priced here - effective. Your can't live without. I'm hoping for better exfoliation, glass skin, aging skin, some redness, neck treatments, under eye treatments etc. etc.

For glass skin look at Medicube triple collagen cream. Medicube overnight mask.

I’m a big fan of Sulwhasoo but they’re expensive. Cheaper in South Korea. I have oily skin and their gentle foaming cleanser works well for me. Most people like their first care activating serum and their ginseng cream. If you do get this though go to their flagship store in Bukchon. You get treated to snacks and tea if you purchase from them there.

Korea is literally skincare heaven! You should grab the beauty of joseon revive eye serum, Missha time revolution ampoule and abib sheet masks for hydration. Olive Young usually has the best deals, so check there if possible and have a good trip!!

My Go To for this is Hwahae Korean Beauty App. 'Hwahae - analysing cosmetics' is a beauty app from Korea (and in Korean language, yeah that's the catch). It mostly showcases the ratings of skincare/makeup products.

'The app became an immediate hit and it’s recently been reported that over 80% of Korean women in their 20s and 30s are HwaHae users' source online webpage.

As far as I've experienced, this is the platform where we can get to know what products are actually loved in Korea. To an extent the Korean products/companies that are a hit internationally don't always make it to the list top rated products in Korea and such ratings can be viewed in this app. Hope this helps.

An easy way to see what's trending in Korea is to look at the Olive Young rankings on the Korean site: https://m.oliveyoung.co.kr/m/main/getBestList.do if you use google chrome it will automatically translate web pages into English.

These product rankings are totally different from the global site so it's really interesting to browse through it.

Some of the most popular brands right now are Torriden, Round Lab, Be Plain, Aestura, and Real Barrier.

bring green, keenoniks (particularly the cleansing toner pads), d'Alba, cellfusionc (the sunscreen is a staple amongst cheongdam salons)

sometimes i translate the word 'skincare' into korean and search it up on youtube. or watch videos of people visiting salons in korea and see what products they use.

Sunscreen: skin1004 hyalu cica, Purito wonder releaf centella daily sun, round lab birch juice, isntree, APLB glutathione niacinamide sunscreen (great for acne prone oily skin), Haruharu wonder black rice airyfit sunscreen (the chemical one)

Retinol: SCINIC - Ksecret Seoul 1988 retinal for beginners, Cicanoid Retinal Cream for novice users

Eye cream: depends on the type of dark circle

The only things from BOJ I’ve tried are the relief sunscreen which I love and the retinal eye cream which hasn’t done anything.

From COSRX, I personally love the snail mucin 97 power essence but I have combo skin so it might be a lot for oily folks. I did not like their vitamin e sunscreen it’s super greasy. I love the 6 peptide booster

Probioderma lifting moisturiser! It has probiotics, prebiotics, ceramides and anti-aging peptides. It’s THICCC, a little goes a long way.

Beauty of Joseon isn’t actually that much cheaper in Seoul, I think Olive Young doesn’t mark it down because it’s so popular with tourists. I can get it for the same price or even cheaper in my home country (Singapore) 👀, or if StyleKorea, YesStyle etc are doing sales, it might be cheaper to buy there. The trick with Olive Young is there’s always stuff on offer/sale/bundle deals - that’s what you wanna hone in on.

Korean living in korea here. My entire routine is from aesthetician and not readily available unless you can order from naver, so idk if that is gonna be helpful but for a brand that’s easy to find, uiq is my favorite. Their stuff is really simple, probiotic based, and their cream mist is my personal favorite. And another brand i like is abib. I like their sheet masks and you can find them in any oliveyoung (korean sephora).

Key Considerations for Korean Skincare Brands:

  1. Ingredients: Look for brands that use high-quality, effective ingredients like hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and natural extracts. K-beauty often emphasizes hydration and nourishment.

  2. Product Range: Consider brands that offer a comprehensive range of products, including cleansers, toners, serums, moisturizers, and sunscreens, to create a complete skincare routine.

  3. Skin Type Compatibility: Choose brands that cater to your specific skin type (oily, dry, sensitive, etc.) to ensure the products will be effective and gentle on your skin.

  4. Reputation and Reviews: Research customer reviews and brand reputation to gauge effectiveness and customer satisfaction.

  5. Innovation: K-beauty is known for its innovative formulations and unique products, such as essences and ampoules, which can enhance your skincare routine.

Top Korean Skincare Brands to Consider:

  1. Laneige: Known for its hydrating products, especially the Water Sleeping Mask and Lip Sleeping Mask.

  2. Innisfree: Focuses on natural ingredients sourced from Jeju Island, offering a range of eco-friendly products.

  3. COSRX: Popular for its effective formulations targeting acne and skin concerns, with standout products like the Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence.

  5. Dr. Jart+: Known for its innovative skincare solutions, particularly the Cicapair line for soothing irritated skin.

Recommendation: If you're new to K-beauty, starting with a brand like COSRX can be beneficial due to its focus on effective ingredients and targeted solutions. For hydration, Laneige is a great choice. Always patch test new products to ensure compatibility with your skin!
