TL;DR
Noctua NF-A12x25
The Noctua NF-A12x25 fan is frequently mentioned as one of the best performing fans available. It is praised for its quiet operation, running between 33.1 dBA at 500 RPM to 44.8 dBA at 2000 RPM, which is quieter than many competitors [2:4]. Despite its higher price, the fan delivers excellent cooling performance, making it suitable for those who prioritize noise reduction and efficient cooling
[3:7].
Phanteks T30
For those looking for top-tier performance without budget constraints, the Phanteks T30 is often cited as the best performing fan. It excels in high airflow scenarios and can operate at speeds up to 3000 RPM, providing significant cooling power [3:1]
[3:6]. Users have noted that even at high speeds, the fan remains relatively quiet, making it an excellent choice for demanding applications
[3:3].
Arctic P12/P14
If budget is a concern, Arctic's P12 and P14 fans offer a compelling alternative. They are recognized for their cost-effectiveness, providing solid performance at a fraction of the price of premium fans like the Noctua NF-A12x25 [2:6]
[3:5]. Available in multi-packs, these fans are ideal for users needing multiple units or those looking to balance performance with affordability
[3:8].
Considerations for Fan Selection
When selecting a fan, it's important to consider the specific use case, such as whether the fan will be used with filters, radiators, or in open cases [3:2]. Static pressure fans are better suited for restrictive environments, while airflow-focused fans perform well in open setups
[2:11]. Additionally, aesthetics like RGB lighting may influence some buyers, though the fans discussed here focus primarily on performance over looks
[3:7].
Overall, the choice of fan depends on your specific needs, budget, and preferences regarding noise and cooling efficiency.
You gotta respect a hater that dedicated.
An international hater at that.
Meadowlark Hatin
AJ Styles would be proud.
Give this fan a statue
Give this fan the team.
highjacking this comment...is the OP intending to say they flew 23 hours "to watch the Pirates and their sign on the Jumbotron"?
Side 1: I flew 23 hours to watch the Pirates.
Side 2: Bob, Sell the Team.
When the Jumbotron showed the guy he flipped the sign.
"I hope all the bad things in life happen to you, and to nobody else but you."
Not all heroes wear capes
I feel like it ’s not fair to include the Rockies with everyone else here.
Sure he isn’t a good owner, but as far as I can tell he’s tried more than any of the other guys you’ve mentioned.
You also missed the Twins owner I believe
What a legend
TLDR:
Caveat: all fans tested on a radiator, not as case/heatsink fans.
Better than a lot of fan reviews that test them in open air. A radiator is often a worst case because it has high static pressure caused by the high fin density. If a fan works well on there, it will only perform better in less restrictive uses.
>Who Actually Makes the Best PC Fans?
Best PC radiator fans you mean? The scythe kaze flex which he thought was bad, is actually pretty decent as a case fan.
Depends on the case, no? In cases with wide open fan vents, airflow focused fans probably do best. But with smaller openings or dust filters, wouldn't a static pressure focused fan work better? I wonder if this has been tested.
>In cases with wide open fan vents, airflow focused fans probably do best
I'm no fan engineer but that only sounds reasonable. This fan review (6:31) tests a variety of fans in a case intake configuration and the kaze flex performs 2-3c better on cpu/gpu temps (scythe fuma 2 as hsf) and 7c better on vrm temps compared to the a12x25 at a noise normalized 30dB.
What irks me is that noctua is marketing their a12x25 as a be-all-end-all jack of all trades fan, when it clearly is not. I own six a12x25s and I love them as rad fans but they aren't the best fans for every situation like noctua's marketing would have you believe.
Weird to not include other top fans like phanteks and arctic...

So the title is pretty missleading.
I have no doubts the NF-A12x25 are the best performing fans, but I am not convinced they are worth the cost.
The difference to some other fans is marginal at best and the cost is substantially higher.
I am interested in performance per dollar as well.
For instance putting 4 fans on a radiator, it's $120 for 4 NF-A12x25 PWM vs. $40 for 4 Arctic P12 PWM fans.
I am not sure it's worth $80 more for slightly lower temps, because I can certainly slow down the Arctic P12 to a point where they are very quiet.
Their F12 fans aren't bad, either. Significantly quieter than the Noctua Redux fans they replaced while delivery the same amount of performance.
Yes. $7 and is as quiet up to 1200-1300RPM and negligibly louder and worse performing above that. For most people it's 90% of a NF-A12 @ 1/4 the price. Or you can buy 5 for the price of one NF-A12.
I'm actually glad that they offer the chromax or whatever they call it because I can't stand the beige and brown.
I'll be grabbing the chromax and done of those white fan coverings they sell when I build my new PC
Phanteks no idea, but the Arctic P1X ones are insane, they are part of the reason why their CLCs are topping the charts at GamersNexus on the noise normalized testes (and the thicker radiator too).
That being said they probably are not better than Nocuta, but they are very close and super cheap. You can get 5 packs for under 30€/$.
The title says it all. I'm not interested in aesthetic stuff such as RGB and budget is not a problem. What do you think is the best performing case fan?
Thanks in advance for all the help, it is very appreciated.
Best performing case fan for what? Filter or no filter? Radiators or not? How large is the case?
Airflow, noise, cable management?
This is a cope used by people with inferior fans. The answer is that the T30 is the best performing fan.
As the owner of a 7xT30 machine, they are the bees knees. My 5800x3D and 6950xt machine is running on full use at low temps. I can crank it to 3000 rpm if I really want or need to cool everything off faster but the fans output like crazy at 1000-1700 just fine. The coil whine from my 6950xt is louder than the fans under load. Cushioning is good. If I could do it again I'd wait for the new daisy chain connection points they just showed off on the standard T30, I don't need rgb or reversed fans for aesthetics.
Nope. This hair splitting is a cope used by people with inferior fans. The T30 is the undisputed best fan currently.
https://www.arctic.de/p12pwmpstco
p12/14 if there is a filter involved, its a cheap and silent fan, that performs very well.
if there is no filter or noise is highest priority, arctics f silent series are great contenders.
Arctic knows their stuff and is very budget friendly. Their Liquid Freezer series is by far the best no frills no rgb AIO. And their thermal paste is the gold standard. And those cheap 5 fan 120mm fan packs are an amazing value. I once had a cooler compatibility problem and the back and forth with their helpdesk was top notch.
OP says budget is not a concern, there is no reason to consider Arctic fans. Phanteks T30s are straight up the best fans you can buy.
Yeah they're very good for the price, particularly in the 5 pack. I've had some issues with a high pitched whine on a set of older Arctic p14s in the 900-1100 range. That said you can just set a fan curve to skip this zone but some people lost their shit over it online (I know). They're a very hard recommendation to argue with from a P2P perspective. In the 5 pack, I'm not aware of an even vaguely similarly-priced fan that does the job as well.
will echo this. the Arctic fans use a really similar bearing tech to Noctua, so are, imo, better bang for the $$ than Noctua for case fans.
Noctua A12x25 is what you are looking for. Best performance per noise ratio, good performance in all use cases and no RGB. The only downside is the price.
Eh, I disagree. It’s important to understand that whenever sound is involved there actually is a level of subjectivity that you need to account for.
Higher airflow and lower dBs certainly gives the T30s the crown on paper… but after A/B comparing the two (any others) in person I still give the crown to Noctua any day. The noise profile on the A12x25 is simply superior, even when it’s slightly louder than a competitor.
Noctua fans in general, move a fuck ton of air.
Where did you get the fan?
it's on the sleep token uk merch store.
Spray through the radiator grills while keeping the bottle straight. Hold the fans so they don't spin. Clean the dust using a brush. Should be enough for a legion.
Hey man why do we need to hold the fans when cleaning (spraying) using compressed air? Just a dumb q
You can actually spin a fan faster than it was rated to spin.
A fan transforms eleectricity into movement. You can also generate electricity by moving manually the fan. Depending on your motherboard quality, you might break a component due to unintendend voltages to the fan pins.
Some fans were built to spin only at one direction. (For example let's say I have a fan that built to spin only on clockwise) If I use compressed air it can make fan spin counter-clockwise and break (or damage) it.
P.S. Sorry for my english, it's not my native language.
Tape the fans! You dont want them spinning faster than they are designed to. It will ruin them.
I cleaned my laptop like this thrice without ever disconnecting the battery. Not saying what I did was right, just that I didn't have any problems.
The proper way is to remove the fans and clean them separately.
It will have a better result. the only critical thing is if the paste is still pliable, great.if not replace it with something of OEM quality and you'll have as good if not better performance.
Checking CPU package power/clock during cinebench will tell you the story. before vs after.
If you can't take it off, then it doesn't matter. Do what you can I guesz
Well...I'm sure I'll get down voted but step #1 remove the fans then heatsink. It's the only way that doesn't force dust deeper.
...never ever use a thin paste like mx4 on these btw
Removing the fans is beyond my capabilities unfortunately
Was it easy or hard to pull out the connector? I haven't done it on mine yet.
I have on other laptops in the past. Desktops.
It's only suitable on desktops where 80C isnt seen.
It rapidly pumps out over 80 (where laptops occasionally venture during benchmarking)
Too thin.
Do not use on laptops. Many other better alternatives
I love it so much I bought another. 10ah battery lasts about 10 hours. Highly recommend the fan.
It's a 22w fan on max. So it's pulling about 1 amp at 20v. So every amp hour on a battery should be close to a 1 hour run time. 5ah battery = 5 hour runtime, 6ah battery = 6 hr runtime. Approximately of course, it will be about 5% below this rough estimate.
This is pretty much on point. I pulled the shite 20v 10ah batteries from my lawnmower and repurposed them for this fan. Much better use for them (because those batteries are insanely awful in that mower).
Can confirm I've seen these numbers for the most part. Can turn the speed down a bit and get a full 8 hr day out of a 5 AH battery if needed, but personally I just have another battery on hand for long days. On full speed I'm usually seeing 4.5 hrs per battery on the 5s, and a little over 6 on the 6/2 flexvolts.
$65 With a 5AH battery… I bought 2 last month. They last a while with that 5AH because I left it on overnight at a low speed and it didn’t die. 🤷♂️
Yes, they work great and last a long time. Use mine constantly. So many uses aside from just cooling off too.
$89 with 5ah and charger at Lowe’s a while ago!
I got three for work and two for camping
Just to throw this out there, you might consider the previous version, which could take AC power. I got mine for $50 used.
I have one of each. The new one blows a lot harder and it's a little quieter.
Got to like tools that are battery & 110
I bought one when it was still in stores, and have been looking for another one ever since, but have never found one for sale.
Hello Legionnaires
I have been a proud owner of the Legion Go for nearly a year now and just recently I began noticing my device heating up (and when I say Heat up, I mean skin burning hot). I live in Easy LA and I have a cat which sheds and due to where I live a lot of dust particles in the house. The intake on the top of the Legion go is so large I decided to have a look
I decided to unscrew the back panel and thought it took me a second to pop the plate off due to the notch being flush with the device. I was able to identify a dirty fan was the issue. Once cleaned, with office duster and a tiny plastic screwdriver I used to clean each between each blade, the over all performance the heating issue improved and even my most demanding games do not overheat the system. I hope this is helpful. I say clean this fan once ever 3-6 months for best results. Take care and game on.
I wanted to make you all aware that .
yeah this thing is like a propper hoover. i clean this thing every month
I’ve had my legion go for over a year and I haven’t had to clean it once. Inspecting the fan shows pretty much no build up. Do you have pets or something?
You have to clean it every month? I live in NYC with 3 air purifiers. My gaming PC and my Legion go has barely collected any dust in 6months(go) 2 years(desktop). And I have a dog that sheds. Might be time to invest.
Fortunately it doesn’t take an engineering degree to do this. It’s like six screws. Just be mindful of accidentally hitting the power button . It seems like A delicate fan
>mindful of accidentally hitting the power button
Disable the battery in the bios.
You guys must live in some dusty environments. My legion go is a year old and I cant see a single piece of dust on my fan.
Dont even know of my fan even has dust, but it works perfectly fine and cools my legion as it should
If you're using can air or other air source, hold the center of the fan so that it doesn't spin freely because then it turns into a generator creating electric charge that goes the wrong way into the system. Can kill electronics that way. Never let a connected fan free spin from can air duster.
Yeah
Prob a good reminder for anyone with any portable device (be it legion go, laptop etc etc)
What about switch 2?
If it doesn't use the fans often or much it might not be needed. My legion go gets more dust in a month than my switch OLED in 3 years.
It has a fan, eventually it will get dirty
Not sponsored or an ad, just sharing my journey with cooling pads. Threw a lot of money at this laptop so I wanted to maximize the vibes and cooling performance. I have bought like 6 or 7 coolers of varying sizes/types. The sealed coolers are obviously the best but lack portability + Very loud in my experience. I think they are great for at home use, but anywhere else, it is just a hastle for me. Most portable fan coolers I have tried, don't really move needle on cooling in my experience. If you want maximum cooling, while being super portable. Then try the zebay coolers one. I don't know how many he has left, but its a turkish guy on etsy who had a gaming laptop and just made these coolers for himself and some buddies. Its got RGB with all kinds of settings. It has a speaker in it (not good speakers, but has em lol). The biggest factor: Has 4, high efficiency 6200 rpm fans, which are placed exactly where they should be to maximize cooling on the Zephyrus. I would have to assume you could change or upgrade the fans too. You also get variable fan speeds, and its made out of metal. It is pretty expensive, but worth it if you already spent bands on your laptop 😂
Lmk if you have questions 🙂
>I wanted to maximize the vibes and cooling performance u/theoneandonlysauce
Nice! Am sure the RGB lighting drops the temperatures by another 5°-10°C for sure!
That cooling pad is not really compatible for your zephryus. You should get one with more fan surface, like ilano v10 or v12, which essentially puts your laptop above 1 giant industrial grade fan
When the designer cares more about aesthetics than performance:
I'm not familiar with this brand, but even if the fans are super-duper strong, the vents appear to be working against them 🫣
those cutouts are probably blocking about half the static pressure of the fans lmao
LLANO V10 for the G14 and V12 for the G16. The IETS is really the only other fan that does more than a few degrees of cooling for these laptops.
For reference my laptop is Lenovo Legion 5 Pro 16IAH7H, i7 12700H, RTX 3070 Ti 8GB
So my laptop was getting unreasonably hot. First about a half a year ago I bought a "better" cooling pad, but basically the typical 2 fans with a metal mesh. I put it on its legs so it would get more airflow. Didn't do much, then last week I opened it up and cleaned the whole thing, the fans, the fins and repasted with PTM.
Temps stayed the same, but the laptop had more airflow, because some of the fans and fins were clogged.
So i searched online ways to improve this. Came upon IETS and LLANO cooling pads.
Industrial fan up to 2800RPM (GT 600), sealed around the edges so the intake is only through the pad, 2 layer filters on the fan so no dust and in my case cat hair gets in.
Today my IETS GT600 came, had to order it from Amazon and pay for shipping, because I live in a European country and I couldn't get neither of them anywhere, no mention of them as well. When I would look online for LLANO or IETS, we only had the 2 fan style no seal no name brands.
Anyway, IT IS AMAZING. When playing on 2200 RPM the temps go from 85-90C to stable 65-70C on GPU and 60-70C on CPU. But also at 2200RPM it is loud, like kitchen hood loud. - Only usable when alone and with headphones.
At 1400RPM it is less loud and prolly gonna work with wife in the room watching TV (a more realistic use case). The temps go up by 10C on GPU and roughly stay the same on CPU, at least on AC Shadows, which uses more GPU. Which is still 76C on GPU, a huge improvement over my laptop being a heater.
This is probably the most impactful buy I had since owning the laptop and I wanted to share that with you.

Got the exact same laptop, but with the llano cooler. G9t the sane results as well, hella happy i bought this cooler. Side note, are you able to turn on your rgb through vantage or the command keys? I tried almost everything and i still cant get lenevo spectrum or have my keyboard lights turned on.
I have the arctic blue only (which I only knew after I bought it, but grew to love) so no RGB.
Picture for reference
If sound is a problem the flydigi 2 is out and I get better performances from it than I did with the iets with much lower sounds
Ah man that’s great! Not for me I just paid €150 for this so I’ll keep it for a while lol
Hello, I’ve been meaning to change the fan for such a long time but didn’t feel the need to cuz I thought I could bear the noise but the fan is so goddamn loud and I think it’s starting to get into my roommates head too😭. I’ve attached a photo of how the space looks like but let me know if any of y’all have any recs!! It’s also an ASUS case (pretty small too :/) I’ve added a link into both of the pics but I’ll also add the link here!
I bought "Arctic P-12 0db rgb pwm" to replace my stock exhaust fan. It's pretty quiet and was cheap too so i can recommend
Noctua NF-S12B, BeQuiet Silent Wings 3, Arctic F12, Gelid Solutions Silent 12, Scythe Kaze Flex 120mm. All of those are great if you want a quiet PC. Check out: https://www.quietpc.com/casefans
What? I don't believe you build pc. Don't you see it's a 92mm at most?
Fucking Noctua A9 then, Christ. OP just said which fans run quiet, they didn't specify a size, didn't specify where, not my job to measure. And you don't think I build PC's?? Yeah, who's page is this then? https://builds.gg/phreakwarpc dumbass. Now lets see yours. I don't believe YOU build them.
I highly recommend be quiet. Those thing move A LOT of air and are really, as the name implies, quiet 🤫
Arctic P12 is quieter and better than F12
noctua a12x25
Arctic P-12 PWM. You can chain link them together.
Also dear OP I found perfect topic for you from asus redit
Hope this will help you 😉
Well, this isn't stackoverflow, you don't really have to link old threads 🗿
It's relevant to what OP needs and with large description. Did you saw what's in it?
best laptop fan
Key Considerations for Choosing a Laptop Fan:
Compatibility: Ensure the fan is compatible with your laptop model. Check the size and connector type before purchasing.
Noise Level: Look for fans that operate quietly, especially if you need to work in a quiet environment. Fans with a noise level of 20-30 dB are generally considered quiet.
Cooling Performance: Consider the airflow (measured in CFM - cubic feet per minute) and the fan's ability to dissipate heat effectively. Higher CFM ratings indicate better cooling.
Portability: If you travel often, choose a lightweight and compact fan that can easily fit in your laptop bag.
Power Source: Some fans are USB-powered, which is convenient as they can draw power directly from your laptop. Others may require an external power source.
Adjustability: Look for fans with adjustable speed settings or angles to direct airflow where it's needed most.
Recommendations:
Cooler Master NotePal X3: This laptop cooling pad features a large 200mm fan for excellent airflow, adjustable fan speed, and a comfortable ergonomic design. It's suitable for gaming laptops and heavy-duty use.
Targus Laptop Cooling Pad: A budget-friendly option, this cooling pad is lightweight, USB-powered, and has dual fans for effective cooling. It's portable and great for everyday use.
Kootek Laptop Cooling Pad: This model has five fans and adjustable height settings, allowing for customizable cooling and comfort. It's versatile and works well for various laptop sizes.
Choosing the right laptop fan can help prevent overheating, improve performance, and extend the lifespan of your device.
