TL;DR
MacBook Air
The MacBook Air is consistently recommended for programming due to its robust performance and build quality. The newer models with M1 or M2 chips offer excellent battery life and processing power, making them ideal for developers [4:1]. Purchasing from the Apple refurb store can also help save some money while still getting a high-quality product
[4:2].
Framework Laptop
For those interested in reparability and customization, the Framework laptop is a strong contender. It allows users to upgrade components over time, which can be particularly appealing for students or professionals who want to extend the lifespan of their device. However, if you require a dedicated GPU for tasks like running SolidWorks, the current Framework models might not meet your needs [5:1].
Ryzen vs. Intel CPUs
When considering CPU options, laptops with Ryzen processors are noted for their strong performance, even with older models. They handle multitasking well, such as having multiple browser tabs open, and offer good battery life [3:3]. On the other hand, Intel CPUs are praised for their efficiency in low power budgets, making them suitable for laptops where battery life is a priority
[3:2].
Considerations for CAD and Engineering Applications
If you're using applications like AutoCAD or SolidWorks, it's important to consider the hardware requirements. While integrated graphics and a decent processor may suffice for simpler models, more complex assemblies will benefit from a dedicated GPU [5:2]. This is something to keep in mind when selecting a laptop for engineering or design tasks.
In summary, the best laptop for programming in 2024 depends on your specific needs, whether it's portability, performance, reparability, or the ability to handle specialized software.
Also a good night for Pittmasters.
Finally an actual comedy series winning Best Comedy again!
Not a fan of Hacks?
Not a fan of The Bear. Forgot Hacks actually won last year.
This latest season was rough, big step down from the previously. Glad Jean Smart gets her recognition tho.
The Studio a real polite chuckle kinda show. enjoy it but it feels like it’s always winding up to better jokes that never come
Agreed. It's enjoyable, but this is such a circle jerk moment for the Emmys, awarding the show about the industry. And probably the runner up was Hacks... I like both shows quite a lot, but I'm kinda annoyed that they're the best comedies out there at the moment. Can we get more good proper comedies out, please?
I think Hacks is great but The Studio leaves me quite cold despite the involvement of so many people I really like.
Good for Rogen , but sad for the Rehearsal. Though perhaps the lack of Emmy's for giant puppet babies and dog clones only legitimizes them more.
He won for writing as well. Rogen won four Emmys tonight and Stephen Graham won three (Acting, Writing, and Show). Also found out that Stephen Graham's grandfather was Jamaican. Adolescence was a fucking juggernaut tonight. They won in every category they were nominated.
Well deserved for both shows! Pretty good list of winners overall IMO. I was delighted by the surprise win for Jeff Hiller. Somebody Somewhere is such a lovely show, I’m glad it got a little recognition.
I’ve never heard of the show but I remember him being funny as the hotel concierge in the high school reunion episode of “30 Rock.”
The Pittmaster taking a breath to shout out Background Actors is enough to make me watch the show.
The Pitt was crushing it last night, but it's a show I had zero interest in because hospital/first responder shows have been done to death. Is it really that good?

If you asked me 5 years ago if a show about Cassian Andor was a good idea, I would've laughed at you. If you told me that it would one day be my favorite out of all star wars shows I'd be rolling on the floor laughing and think you needed a psychiatrist.
Well here I am, firmly claiming that a show about Cassian fucking Andor is up there with the best shows of all time such as the Wire, Breaking Bad, and Deadwood. It's unreal, and I love it.
I enjoy the space wizards as much as anyone, but I also enjoy stories of the rest of the universe. The average guy as well as the exceptional hero.
Climb
Well, I suppose I can only hope that Andor leaves a lasting legacy on the creatives.
It may have not done absolutely amazing numbers, but the show is definitely going to have a very positive long-term effect on the franchise, and I think that's very important moving forward.
Very glad that the show won some well-deserved awards. I was slightly afraid this show was going to get the Better Call Saul treatment from the Emmys.
*Brief Kleya smile*
Pretty solid haul for a show that didn’t have a ton of crossover appeal in the mainstream and was going up against the phenomenon that is The Pitt (which is another outstanding show, hard to be upset about any award Andor lost to it).

Intel's CPU architecture is fine tuned for operating in low power budgets, it is greatly superior in laptops.
Unfortunately, AMD's GPU architecture is waaaay beyond what Intel achieves, and we're more often GPU limited than CPU limited in a laptop.
Gf got ap laptop with an ryzen 7 that is alrdy 2-3 yrs old.. and still absolutely crushes it performance wise… especially if you consider shes one of those people eho constantly got about 30 tabs open in her browser at all times… Also doing extremely well on battery life too. Cant say much about intel on mobile tho admittedly.
ryzen in laptops is fantastic...theres nothing really bad about em to say, other than i wish more super low power configs existed. (like sub 10w stuff) because rn, my favorite device is my surface with snapdrsgon in it because of its battery life.
i wana see more competition in this area.
I'm interested in buying a laptop that's good for a developer that will last for the next several years. Nothing crazy expensive but I also don't want to cheap out.
What are your suggestions?
MacBook Air are very nice. Maybe from the Apple refurb store to save a bit of cash.

I am a high schooler who is trying to replace their 10 year old 13 xps. I really like the ideas of framework and reparability and some upgrade path is something I find important. Right now I am a computer science and engineering student using solidwork, autocad and other engineering/coding applications. Should I get a framework, and if so which one should get?
Thank you if you decide to help
In my experience running autocad and solidworks for 10 years or so, you can run CAD in very limited hardware. You need at least integrated graphics and a decent processor with good single threaded performance, but even if you don't have that, you can still run things.
Model complexity is what kills performance and trust me, bloated models are hard to run even on towers.
Not sure which one should you get, but I am sure any i5 processor or better, 16gb ram or better will be ok for 90% of the CAD work you are going to be doing.
I run 3D AutoCAD and Shapr3D on a SurfaceGo2 ... that is a m3 processor from 5 years ago. Still does the job.
What do you mean by model complexity and bloated models?
Cad drawings with too many polygons/faces/lines. Drawings that have not been purged. Or full of loaded Xrefs. Or buggy. Things like that
If you are planning to use Solidworks with large assemblies on a laptop you need something with a dedicated GPU. The Framework 16 isn't available with high end Nvidia GPUS and won't be for a while yet so I'd recommend something else.
Why an Nvidia Gpu and not an AMD is their like a wattage problem or software issue?
Can someone recommend me a best laptop that I can use for longer years? plz plz
zephyrus g14
Only for coding no gaming? T480.
You should provide more info in what you are looking for in a laptop, then you might get some suggestions.
used dell lattitude or lenovo thinkpad
Thinkpad (Good Linux compatibility)
-GOOD Keyboard
-SOLID Build
Just find these specs (Min):
CPU: AMD (generally better for battery)
RAM: 16 GB
SSD: 512 GB
100% sRGB (Not required for programming but good for watching movies.)
Backlit Keyboard.

It sounds like you are trying to start a new hobby. With all new hobbies don't spend 1000s getting started. Get something for studying and then program on it. If you enjoy programming AND start getting bogged down due to specs then you spend the 1000s.
You saying you want to learn all languages tells me this is sometime new to you. Enjoy it but don't go into stupid debt for it.
💯
If battery life matters - consider Apple, if not - solid Windows machine like Thinkpad series, if you start and budget matters - buy cheap second hand, run apps on this and you will figure out what not working. Good second hand from business lines like mentioned before Thinkpad line can be used in future as spare laptop.
32GB AMD running Windows. You can put all sorts of VMs on it. Your target servers will surely run Linux unless you work for a Windows-centric org.
Or just use the native OS.
Both of those will be fine. But for the price you can find something better. I'd go for more ram.
You could use a 10 year old laptop for that. Definitely don't need something super fancy for programming in general. If you have money to burn, macs are fine. Plenty of sub-$1k laptops will do just fine...I like Asus
Hi, I am looking for laptop for my personal use and development. I need a light weight laptop even if it doesn't support gaming it works. Your recommendation will be very helpful for me. Ps: What are your views on Samsung ProBook. I found it a good option but got mixed reviews.
Thanks
You don't need anything crazy to program. ProBook is actually overkill.
EDIT: it depends on the programming you're looking to do, but at the same time, most programming languages don't require you to have the craziest laptop.
Okay, thanks. I want it to work smoothly when i will run LLms
If you're going to be getting into LLM then I wouldn't get a budget laptop. There are a lot of factors. You don't need a MBP though and drop like 3K.
Budget ?
80k
https://amzn.in/d/8BooIWh best laptop in this budget
Asus 16x oled
Bought a thinkpad e16 for my father 6 months ago, its pretty good overall and the build quality seems to be great as well.
I definitely would say to stay away from Dell inspiron series, i had one and the hinges broke 3 times until it finally was out of warranty and Dell quoted me 15k to fix it again.
I also have a HP 15s which is mediocre with a low quality shitty display with 45% sRGB TN panel
I think you should definitely go for a thinkpad
Edit: most thinkpad have a 45% NTSC IPS panel so its not the best you can get in terms of display quality. I'd recommend getting something with 99% or 100% sRGB if you will do any UI work or photo editing or watching movies
Thinkpad is what you're referring.
You can see Samsung laptop too if you're in Samsung ecosystem.
Budget is 80K
For coding and no gaming or video editing, get the Asus Vivobook with 13900H for 79k. Purpose built for those requirements.
I'm an engineering student looking for a laptop suitable for programming and technical work. My budget is between 70k-85k INR, but I can stretch it a bit if I find a good deal.
