Best Laptops for Students in 2025

TL;DR

  • Budget Options: HP Pavilion 14, Dell Inspiron 15 [4]
  • Mid-Range Options: Asus Vivobooks, Lenovo T14 [5:1][5:2]
  • High-End Options: MacBook M4 series, ASUS Vivobook S 14 OLED [5:3][5:5]

Budget-Friendly Choices

For students who need a laptop primarily for notes, assignments, and basic coding, budget-friendly options like the HP Pavilion 14 or Dell Inspiron 15 are recommended. These models are lightweight, offer good battery life, and are generally affordable [4]. They are suitable for students who do not require high-performance graphics or extensive processing power.

Mid-Range Recommendations

If you have a slightly higher budget and prioritize build quality and portability, consider the Asus Vivobooks or Lenovo T14. The Asus Vivobooks are praised for their reliable build and portability, making them a great option for students who need to carry their laptops around campus [5:1]. The Lenovo T14 is another solid choice known for its durability and performance, ideal for students who need a dependable machine for daily use [5:2].

High-End Options

For those with a larger budget, the ASUS Vivobook S 14 OLED offers advanced features such as an AMD Ryzen AI 9 processor and customizable RGB keyboard, providing excellent performance for more demanding tasks [5:3]. Additionally, the MacBook M4 series is suggested for students who prefer macOS and require a high-performance device for creative work or software development [5:5].

Considerations for Choosing a Laptop

When selecting a laptop, it’s important to consider what you will primarily use it for. If your coursework involves heavy computing tasks like video editing or programming, investing in a laptop with a powerful CPU and ample RAM is crucial [3]. For general use, prioritize aspects like battery life, weight, and form factor to ensure the laptop fits seamlessly into your student lifestyle. Additionally, decide whether you prefer a Windows PC or a Mac based on the software you plan to use and your familiarity with the operating system [5:4].

I used to spend more time troubleshooting streams than actually watching them. That’s when I realized I just needed something simple and stable. The first provider that gave me that was BINGETRAX , which didn’t crash during NFL games and even had a solid on-demand section. It’s the one I’ve kept.

1 upvotes on reddit
Old_Knowledge_7771 · 13 days ago

It’s been stable enough that BINGETRAX is the one I’ve kept.

Odd-Translator-4181 · 13 days ago

The on-demand library works flawlessly too.

Leviathan_works · 14 days ago

What I learned pretty quickly is that having thousands of channels means nothing if the streams don’t hold up. Too many providers talk big but can’t handle peak hours. The only one I tested that managed to balance sports, movies, and live TV without freezing was BINGETRAX, which has been surprisingly steady.

At first I assumed every provider was a scam waiting to happen since two shut down while I was still subscribed. That made me extra cautious moving forward. The only one I’ve stuck with longer than a few months has been TVNADO, mostly because it didn’t buckle when traffic spiked.

Stability under high demand is why TVNADO has stayed my choice.

Over the years I’ve tried a mix of budget and “premium” IPTV services, and most didn’t even last through a season. Some froze constantly, others disappeared with no warning. The one that I didn’t expect to keep but ended up sticking around with was FLIXTRO. COM, mainly because it never failed during fight nights.

I just had to share my experience with "highiptv4k. com" because it's been a total game-changer for my entertainment needs. With a diverse range of channels and a seamless streaming experience, it's already impressive. But what truly sets it apart is the affordability

The best laptops of 2025, tried and tested by our tech critics

Posted by theindybest · in r/laptops · 1 month ago

There has never been a better time to buy a laptop. The best tablets and phones are all well and good, but some tasks need a proper keyboard, excellent storage, and a large, high-resolution screen.

There are hundreds of laptops out there, from dozens of manufacturers. As storage and AI features become better than ever before, the performance of the best laptops is much better than it was even half a decade ago. But which is actually best?

Before comparing machines, consider what you need from a laptop. If you want to do creative work like video editing, you need a good graphics card as a bare minimum. If you travel a lot, a great keyboard and battery life are a must. Alternatively, if you just need something for shopping and the odd bit of life admin, something simple like a Chromebook might be just the thing for you.

Which laptops are best for PEC freshers in 2025? Here’s a breakdown 👇

Posted by Saatvik2006 · in r/PECChd · 1 month ago

Hey everyone, Since a lot of juniors have been DM’ing me about which laptop to buy for college, I thought I’d drop a quick guide here. I also wrote a full detailed breakdown on my blog (with specs, pros/cons, and price ranges) — link at the end.

When you’re starting out in college, your laptop choice really depends on what you’ll actually use it for:

For notes, assignments, and basic coding → A thin & light laptop without a GPU (like HP Pavilion 14 or Dell Inspiron 15) is more than enough. They’re lightweight, have good battery life, and usually come with MS Office pre-installed. Perfect for non-tech branches or if you don’t plan on doing heavy stuff.

For gaming, video editing, 3D modelling, or ML model training → You’ll need a dedicated GPU. Options like HP Victus or ASUS TUF Gaming A15 are solid budget gaming laptops. They’re heavier but way more powerful, so if you see yourself working on projects involving AI/ML, simulations, or CAD software, a GPU laptop will save you headaches later.

For students who want something super portable & reliable → MacBook Air M1 is still one of the best picks. Insane battery life, very lightweight, and perfect for CSE/IT students who are into programming, app development, or design work. Downside: not ideal for AAA gaming.

Balanced options → Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 and Acer Aspire 5 give you the best of both worlds — good performance, portability, and fair pricing for students.

💡 General advice:

If you’re in CSE/IT/ECE → consider something with at least 16GB RAM + SSD.

If you’re in Mech/Civil → go for a GPU laptop if you’ll use AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or simulations.

If you’re in non-tech branches → save money and get a thin & light laptop without GPU.

For a more detailed breakdown with prices, weight, and full specs comparison table, I’ve written a complete blog post here: 👉 Best laptops for college students

Hope this helps freshers make a smarter choice before investing!

Best Laptop for a College Freshman 2025? Need Reliable Student Laptop Recommendations [Budget $800–$1,200, US]

Posted by mimamolletje · in r/SuggestALaptop · 1 month ago

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
$800–$1,200, US

Are you open to refurbs/used?
Prefer new, but open to refurbished laptops if they’re a great value for students

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Battery life and build quality are top priority for college use, followed by performance; ultrabook or slim laptop style preferred

How important is weight and thinness to you?
Very important — I’ll be carrying it between classes and around campus daily, so a lightweight laptop is a must

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
13–15 inches for portability and comfort

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Primarily note-taking, research, online classes, and streaming, plus light Adobe Photoshop and Premiere work

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
Not a gaming laptop priority, but light indie or casual games at medium settings would be fine

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Reliable build, comfortable keyboard for long writing sessions, responsive touchpad; touchscreen optional

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I’m looking for the best laptop for a college freshman that can last through all four years without constant repairs. Strong battery life for all-day use, portability, and durability are essential. I’ve seen student laptop recommendations like the MacBook Air, Dell XPS, and Lenovo ThinkPad, but I’d love to hear from people who’ve used them in real college settings.

Since a reliable build and portability is a big factor, I would suggest a Lenovo T14. It is very portable at 2.9 pounds and has a battery life of around 10 hours doing general tasks like schoolwork. These T series laptops are especially durable and has great reliability. If you have any questions lmk :)

I was totally panicking about which laptop to get before starting college there are so many options and I didn’t want to waste money on something underpowered. This guide seriously saved me! Super helpful breakdown by use case, and now I’m leaning toward the Acer Aspire 5 or Lenovo Slim 5. Thanks for keeping it clear and real!

there are so many choices out there, and it’s easy to end up with something that looks good on paper but lags in real life. Both the Acer Aspire 5 and Lenovo Slim 5 are solid picks, especially if you’re looking for reliability without overspending. If you lean more toward typing-heavy tasks or portability, the Slim 5's screen and build will treat you well.

Best Laptop in 2025? Student Edition

Posted by yvo_knows · in r/Tech_Philippines · 6 months ago

Hello po. Planning to get a Laptop worth 30k-40k. Suggestions would be highly appreciated 🥰

  • For school purposes mainly, main reason yung storage of files talaga (kaya I opted for laptop kaysa tablet w keyboard kahit mas madali yun dalhin anywhere) + With a little bit of Netflix n chill (good graphics is 🤩)
  • Smooth and can do good with multitasking
  • Will last long 3+ years (awa na lang po, di ko keri bumili ulit in a year or so lalo I have enough savings lang for this purchase)
  • If possible lightweight??

Kung may masuggest po kayo na slighter higher price okay lang din po pero kung around 30-40k much better hehe

Salamat po!

I pre-ordered the Lenovo Yoga 9i 2 in 1 Aura Edition 2025. I haven't used it yet, but I looked for a few days and decided on this one. I get a free laptop through a grant every 4 years because of my disability. I chose this one due to Lunar Lake having better battery life and it has an OLED touch screen with 500 nits and a nice keyboard and track pad. It's also light weight and I dont need it for gaming but it is capable for light gaming.

Just found this awesome guide for the best student laptops for 2025 and it's seriously a lifesaver. I’m in graphic design and constantly on the go, so I really need something that’s powerful but won’t empty my bank account.

They've broken it down from budget options to the really high-end stuff. I'm leaning towards the Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i since it flips into a tablet and that Mini-LED display is perfect for my design work.

Anyone else checked out these models yet? Would love to hear which ones you’re using and what you think

Flipping it into a tablet for quick sketches is super handy, plus that Mini-LED display is a treat for the eyes during those marathon design sessions.

If you end up getting it, I'd totally love to hear how it suits your graphic design needs, especially with the software you use.

Anyone else here tried out any of the laptops from the list? Or maybe you've found another gem that's perfect for your study needs? Let’s keep this thread going with some real talk on what’s working for us!

I pre-ordered the Lenovo Yoga 9i 2 in 1 Aura edition. I didnt get to use it yet but I like the lunar lake processor should improve battery life. It is light weight and has a 2.8K OLED touch screen with 500 nits(capable of 1100 nits hdr i think) I dont use it for gaming but it is capable of light gaming. The keyboard and track pad are nice too. I can't wait try it out for myself.

The brightness levels and HDR capability make it perfect for both work and entertainment, and its lightweight design is definitely a win for portability. First impression is the screen is absolutely gorgeous and the sound is incredible for a laptop. Media consumption will be fantastic. Touch screen works great and keyboard and trackpad feels great. The build quality feels premium as well. Never used resource heavy games or apps yet but I am impressed on first look.

Which Laptop Is Best for Students and Gaming in 2025? - Need your help

Posted by Forward-Classic7795 · in r/Laptop_PC_Help · 9 months ago

I’m looking for recommendations for a new laptop in 2025, and I have two needs: one for study and productivity and another for gaming. Ideally, I’d love to find one that can handle both, but I’m open to separate suggestions.

For a student laptop, I need something lightweight with great battery life (8+ hours) and strong enough to handle tools like Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and light creative work. My budget is around $800–$1200.

For a gaming laptop, I’m looking for good performance with a dedicated GPU (RTX 4060 or better) and a high refresh rate screen. My budget here is around $1500–$2000. Portability is a bonus, but cooling is important for long sessions.

Some models I’ve been considering:

Student: MacBook Air (M3), Dell XPS 13 Gaming: Asus ROG Zephyrus G16, Alienware x14 Does anyone have experience with these or other suggestions? Any models that balance both study and gaming would also be awesome.

Thank you so much for the detailed recommendations!  The additional options like the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro and Razer Blade 15 sound amazing, especially for balancing study and gaming. I did come across some reviews mentioning a potential drawback with these models—like the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro being a bit heavier for portability and the Razer Blade 15 having slightly higher temperatures during extended gaming sessions. Do you think these concerns are significant, or do the performance benefits outweigh them? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

You’re absolutely right!  These are valid concerns, and here’s why these issues might arise with these laptops:

  1. Lenovo Legion 5 Pro: The weight is primarily due to its robust build quality, larger chassis, and advanced cooling system. These features ensure durability and efficient performance during intensive tasks, but they do add to its heft. If portability is a key concern, this might be something to weigh against its excellent performance capabilities.
  2. Razer Blade 15: The higher temperatures are a result of its slim design paired with powerful hardware. Packing an RTX 4060 or higher into a thin chassis can create thermal constraints, especially during extended gaming or rendering sessions. Razer’s vapor chamber cooling system helps manage this, but it’s worth noting if you often game for long hours.

Key Considerations for Student Laptops:

  1. Performance: Look for laptops with at least an Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 processor. This ensures smooth multitasking and performance for various applications.

  2. RAM: Aim for a minimum of 8GB of RAM. If you plan to run multiple applications or work with large files, consider 16GB.

  3. Storage: SSDs (Solid State Drives) are preferable for faster boot times and application loading. A minimum of 256GB SSD is recommended, but 512GB is ideal for storing files and applications.

  4. Battery Life: A laptop with at least 8-10 hours of battery life is essential for all-day use on campus without needing to recharge.

  5. Weight and Portability: Lightweight laptops (under 4 lbs) are easier to carry around, especially if you have a busy schedule with classes and study sessions.

  6. Display Quality: A Full HD (1920x1080) display is recommended for better clarity and comfort during long study sessions.

    • Pros: Sleek design, powerful performance, and stunning display.
    • Cons: Can be pricey, especially with higher specs.
  3. HP Pavilion x360:

    • Pros: 2-in-1 versatility, good performance, and affordable price.
    • Cons: Battery life may vary based on usage.
  4. Lenovo IdeaPad 5:

    • Pros: Great value for performance, solid build quality, and good battery life.
    • Cons: Slightly heavier than others in its class.
  5. ASUS ZenBook 14:

    • Pros: Lightweight, good performance, and excellent battery life.
