What Redditors are Saying

Best Lenovo Laptops Under $1000

TL;DR

  • ThinkPad L14 Gen 2/3: Business-oriented, durable [1:1]
  • ThinkBook 14 Gen 4: Good value with Ryzen 7 CPU and 16GB RAM for under $700 [3:1]
  • IdeaPad 5: Lightweight, suitable for general use [3:4]

Business and General Use

For those seeking a business-oriented laptop, the Lenovo ThinkPad L14 Gen 2 or Gen 3 is highly recommended. These models are known for their durability and performance, making them a solid choice for professional environments [1:1]. Additionally, the ThinkBook 14 Gen 4 offers excellent value for money, especially when configured with a Ryzen 7 CPU and 16GB RAM, available for less than $700 after discounts [3:1].

Lightweight and Portability

If portability is a priority, the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 is a great option. It weighs only 1.43 kg (about 3 lbs) and is equipped with an Intel Core i5 processor, making it suitable for everyday tasks like browsing, streaming, and document editing [3:4]. This model strikes a good balance between performance and portability.

Student and Academic Use

For students, particularly those who might benefit from touchscreen capabilities, the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 is worth considering. It offers flexibility with its 2-in-1 design, which can be useful for note-taking and organizing documents in applications like Microsoft Notes [4:1]. However, if more power is needed for simulations or video editing, the Slim Pro 7/7i with an RTX 3050 GPU could be a better fit [4:4].

Considerations for Tech-Savvy Users

For users who require a laptop capable of handling programming languages such as Python, the Legion Slim 5 is a viable option if gaming is also a consideration. Otherwise, the Slim 7i or ThinkPad series provides ample choices for non-gaming needs while staying within budget [5:1].

These recommendations cater to various needs, whether for business, education, or general use, ensuring that you can find a Lenovo laptop that fits your requirements under the $1000 mark.

ORIGINAL POST

Cannot exceed 14" screen... I am looking for something business tailored. I don't do any gaming... Just typical internet searching, emails, video streaming etc... Touchscreen and 2in1 doesn't interest me.. I would rather have a better cpu and more ram verse a touchscreen or 2in1 capability... Any help is greatly appreciated.

Have you considered an m1 MacBook? I’m pretty sure it’ll get you through most of your required task easily, not to mention it’s lightweight and the thermal is really good.

This is great value for money after applying codes THINKOUT and SUPERTHINKAUG at checkout - the base model is $480 after the codes but you can configure it with a Ryzen 7 CPU, 16GB RAM and touchscreen for less than $700: https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/laptops/thinkbook/thinkbook-series/thinkbook-14-gen-4-(14-inch-amd)/21dkcto1wwus1

why?

CabinetDifferent5009 · 1 year ago

Because they is so much inconsistencies in so many of their products. I bought one of their products and only saw positive reveiws. And then i realised that it has battery issues and the battery gets consumed really fast. So i would say if you know perfectly about what your getting then only get it

If you're going to have annotations with digital documents, the yoga series is a good option.

If you need to do simulations, design/video editing, a laptop with a dedicated GPU should be within your priority.

Best Lenovo gaming laptop for $1000 USD budget?

Posted by LaMaquinaDeSerFeliz · in r/GamingLaptops · 2 years ago

Hey, I'm probably going to buy a lenovo legion in the next few days and I'm looking for the best bang for my buck.

I'm looking for:

  • Good performance on preferably 1080p, as I think it would last longer
  • Silent fans when idle
  • Good thermals

I've this one in mind as it is the best deal I found but I fear of the cooling system as it is a Slim laptop. I don't really care of it being slim for portability, I'd rather have a cooler laptop. (How much cooler would it be?)

Any other options you guys know?

I have been in technology for 27 years, including a decade of that in higher education. In my opinion, anyone who needs a new laptop in 2025 should begin with a single question: why should I not buy an M4 MacBook Air? Because it is the best value for money, with great performance, excellent battery life, top build quality, and very portable. There are only a few good reasons not to buy one. The most common one would be "I'm a gamer and I want to game on my laptop." If that's not you, go for the M4 Air.

For around $900ish you can get a very good refurb p14s g5 AMD/Intel at Lenovo Outlet, example:

- P14s Gen 5 AMD: https://www.lenovo.com/us/outletus/en/p/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpadp/lenovo-thinkpad-p14s-gen-5-14-inch-amd-mobile-workstation/21mex002us

Great keyboard under $1000?

Posted by FueledByFlan · in r/SuggestALaptop · 3 years ago

Hi lovely peoples. I'm finally buying my first real laptop and I have no idea what I'm doing. To add to the fun, I need to purchase it this week and I hardly have any time to research. I am super grateful for any suggestions for laptops with great keyboards. Thank you in advance!

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

$1,000 USD max, purchasing in USA

  • Are you open to refurbs/used?

No

  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

I have no idea. I just want a great keyboard. Gorilla glass would be nice but not a deal breaker.

  • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Not important at all. I will usually be carrying this in my car.

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

N/A

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

No. Will primarily be used for typing. I will be using this for college, so I have no idea what programs I'll need in the future.

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

n/a

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

In order of importance: great keyboard, usb ports, hdmi port, durability, reasonable price

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I hope you have a freaking beautiful day!

Hi, if you want a good keyboard, I'd go for a ThinkPad. The Lenovo ThinkPad E14 is my recommendation. It comes with a 4-core i5-10210U processor, 16 GB RAM, a 256 GB SSD, and a 1080p 14" IPS display. This combination should easily handle general use tasks. Battery life is around 7-8 hours for light use and weight is around 3.8lbs.

I would strongly suggest to go to the store and decide for yourself which keyboard you find comfortable to type on and then add it to your post as everyone is different. Like people praise thinkpads and legions but personally, even having legion 7 myself, I'm not the biggest fan of the keyboard when typing and much rather prefer the steelseries one on my msi ge 73.

PalmTree888 · 3 years ago

Keyboards are subjective. Most people who define a good keyboard as one that has a lot of travel would find a ThinkPad keyboard great. The same can be applied to HP Envy/Spectre laptops as they have a similar high travel (for a laptop), and a high actuation force required.

Personally, I do not fall into that category, and don't enjoy Thinkpad or Spectre keyboards as I find them fatiguing. I personally like a middle ground between them and superflat keyboards like Apple's doomed Butterfly keyboards, but retaining large keys with less gaps, and low backlight bleed- so for me my favourite keyboards are Apple's current Magic Keyboard and the Dell XPS 13 keyboard I am typing to you now on. Surface Laptops are also a good contender.

Just as a side-note, outside of keyboards alone, the best overall laptop for this price point is the M1 Macbook Air. More performance, better battery AND better thermals than anything in the 3 figure price range, plus with a better-than-1080p Quad HD type screen, great trackpad and build quality. As a student buying through Apple Education you will get it for $100 less at $899, and from there you can claim free AirPods and if you sell them you will effectively getting the laptop for even less. If you happen to enjoy typing on the M1 Air's keyboard, you are set.

Note all praise going on in reviews and such are only for the M1 models, not Intel Macs

The M1 air also has a pretty good keyboard. It’s not thinkpad levels of good but it’s still great.

Yea again its subjective. To me the M1 Air's keyboard is far more enjoyable to use than a Thinkpad one.

palmtree88 has it right in that keyboards are highly subjective. The best way to know if you will like a keyboard is to type on it. Go to your local computer store, and try out the keyboards. Open up notepad and type out, "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog" and other such nonsense until you get a good feel for the keyboard.

What other people say about a keyboard does not matter. Yours is the only opinion that matters.

best Lenovo laptops under $1000

Key Considerations for Lenovo Laptops Under $1000:

  1. Performance: Look for models with at least an Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 processor for good performance in everyday tasks and multitasking.

  2. RAM: Aim for a minimum of 8GB of RAM. This will ensure smooth performance when running multiple applications.

  3. Storage: SSDs (Solid State Drives) are preferable for faster boot times and application loading. A 256GB SSD is a good starting point, but 512GB is ideal if you store a lot of files.

  4. Display Quality: A Full HD (1920 x 1080) display is recommended for better clarity and viewing experience, especially for media consumption.

  5. Battery Life: Look for laptops with at least 6-8 hours of battery life for all-day use without needing to recharge.

Recommended Models:

  1. Lenovo IdeaPad 5:

    • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 or Intel Core i5
    • RAM: 8GB
    • Storage: 512GB SSD
    • Display: 15.6" Full HD
    • Battery Life: Up to 10 hours
  2. Lenovo ThinkPad E14:

    • Processor: Intel Core i5
    • RAM: 8GB (expandable)
    • Storage: 256GB SSD (upgradeable)
    • Display: 14" Full HD
    • Battery Life: Up to 12 hours
    • Durability: Known for its robust build quality.
  3. Lenovo Yoga 7i:

    • Processor: Intel Core i5
    • RAM: 8GB
    • Storage: 512GB SSD
    • Display: 14" Full HD touchscreen
    • Battery Life: Up to 10 hours
    • Versatility: 2-in-1 design for tablet mode.

Recommendation: The Lenovo IdeaPad 5 is a great all-rounder for general use, while the ThinkPad E14 is excellent for business users needing durability and performance. If you prefer a convertible laptop, the Yoga 7i offers flexibility and a premium feel. All these options provide solid performance and features within the $1000 budget.
