Best Luxury Hotels in North Carolina

The Umstead Hotel and Spa

The Umstead Hotel and Spa is frequently mentioned as one of the top luxury hotels in North Carolina. It is praised for its tranquil environment, making it a great choice for those looking to relax away from the hustle and bustle [2:1][2:2]. This hotel is often recommended for its upscale amenities including a pool and hot tub, which are ideal for working professionals seeking a quiet retreat [3:5].

The Dewberry Charleston

Although technically located in South Carolina, The Dewberry Charleston is highlighted in discussions about luxury accommodations due to its proximity and reputation. It's known for its historic charm and luxurious offerings, including one of the finest cocktail bars [1:1]. While not in North Carolina, it's worth considering if your travels take you further south.

Fearrington House Inn

For a more unique experience, Fearrington House Inn is another high-end option that offers a blend of Southern hospitality and luxury. Located in Pittsboro, this inn provides a charming countryside setting with exceptional dining options [3:3].

Ritz-Carlton, Charlotte

While not explicitly discussed in the threads, the Ritz-Carlton in Charlotte is widely recognized as a premier luxury hotel in North Carolina. Known for its sophisticated design and world-class service, it is an excellent choice for travelers seeking a luxurious stay in the heart of a bustling city.

Considerations Beyond the Discussions

When choosing a luxury hotel, consider what specific amenities and experiences are most important to you, such as spa services, dining options, or location. Additionally, if traveling with family, look for hotels that offer family-friendly accommodations and activities. If you're open to exploring nearby states, The Dewberry Charleston provides a notable luxury experience just outside North Carolina.

Looking for best hotel to stay at, first time visiting. We like luxury hotels in the middle of everything. Just looking for some thoughts from locals and maybe some additional things to do (besides eating/drinking)

Luxury: The Dewberry is like stepping into a swanky, mid-century vibe with a Southern twist. They've got a chic restaurant, a cocktail bar that’s all the rage, and even a spa to unwind. It's a little slice of luxury in the heart of Charleston.

Mid-range: The Francis Marion is right in the historic district, with rooms that are both comfy and stylish. It’s got that perfect blend of convenience and charm, without breaking the bank.

Budget: Days Inn (in the Historic District) is budget-friendly without feeling cheap. You get clean, simple rooms, a pool to chill in, and it's a hop, skip, and a jump away from all the downtown action. Plus, starting at around $76 a night, it's a steal!

If money was no object and I was looking for a great option in the heart of downtown, I would consider:

*Hotel Bennett

*The Dewberry Charleston

*Wentworth Mansion

*Charleston Place

*Market Pavilion

*The Vendue

*Grand Bohemian Hotel

I stayed at The Vendue and had such an amazing experience. The service was incredible the entire time and the rooms were top-notch. I highly recommend staying there.

How was your choice? I’m deciding between these two now.

Francis Marion is the quintessential historic hotel... But right across on the other side of Marion square would be my choice, The Dewberry. True luxury hotel and one of the finest cocktail bars around is located there. However being a true luxury hotel, expect to pay an extraordinary amount ($500 or so a night). As stated above, Hotel Bennet is also an excellent luxury choice and it is a bit more affordable ($350ish a night).

Hubby is about to hit his deadline for work and just wanted to get a hotel with a pool and hot tub. The last hotel we got in Asheville was filled with a million kids and really loud. Anyone know of a hotel where the working professionals go to get away? Don't care much about price. Thanks

Upscale hotels

I have a friend from NYC who is very fancy and wants to come visit me and a few other local friends. She will only stay in top tier hotels. Must have room service.

She did find the Carolina Inn interesting when she looked at it online but I don’t know how it is but it’s also a little far from some of her friends in Rocky Mount.

Any suggestions?

ETA…I think we found out winners: Umstead or Renaissance. Thank you!

Umstead is the only spot I believe that would pass for NYC fancy.

The downtown Cary inn is nice but it is definitely small town fancy.

The Cary Inn is… how do I put this…. “HGTV viewer’s version of fancy.”

I have been in a couple of fancy hotels. The Cary Inn is nice, but it is very different. If I understand it correctly it was a labor of love by two people who liked flipping houses and decided to just design and build their own fancy hotel with city money. I went to the opening, admittedly the only time I have been there. It isn’t bad, it is just weird.

Recommendations for luxury resorts that are also family friendly

Posted by barbyh8er · in r/travel · 7 months ago

I’m searching for recommendations for family friendly resorts that are also ‘fancy’. My husband is a very type A, anxious guy who has trouble relaxing so I’m hoping to find somewhere that takes care of everything. All inclusive is not necessary. Some must haves:

  • family suite, multi bedroom or villa type accommodation preferred.

  • direct flights from Charlotte, North Carolina or 6-8 hour drive from there.

  • excellent food is a must. We like to eat.

  • kids age range from toddler to teen. They love the outdoors and nature.

  • we do not enjoy large cities or places with tons of people and crowds.

Where we have visited lately that we loved:

  • Sugar Beach Viceroy, St Lucia. Amazing private villas. Excellent service, butlers, etc made it possible for husband to relax. Food was good with lots of restaurant options. Kids enjoyed the beach, snorkeling, and chocolate making. We are already planning to return but id love to find more places like this in other places!

  • High Hampton Resort, North Carolina. Driving distance, multi-room and cabin type accommodations. Excellent food. Kids enjoyed hiking, lake, pool, games. Debating going back here or visiting sister property, Blackberry Farm (worth the extra drive?).

  • Biltmore Estate, North Carolina. Similar pros to above but closer and we stay here often. Always enjoyable.

  • Kiawah Island, South Carolina. We love the Sanctuary and all the surrounding restaurants. Kids love the beach, bike riding, all the nature. Only con is we usually rent a home/villa so I spend a good bit of vacation cooking, cleaning, etc. but worth it for a beautiful location within driving distance.

  • England and France. Made trips last year with my older kids, mainly to visit family. Would need to change how I plan it to entice the husband and to be completely honest, an overnight flight with a toddler sounds terrifying. I love Europe though so maybe if I could make it NICE and kid friendly…

Open to any and all suggestions. Thank you!

Blackberry Farm/Mountain. The Dunlin opened last year in Kiawah if you want a hotel option there.

Four Seasons Papagayo, COMO Parrot Cay, Rosewood Mayakoba are some options with a direct flight. FS Anguilla and FS Nevis are great for kids too. English countryside around London could also work, check out Coworth Park.

I’m going there this weekend! It’s very old fashioned and the branding is insensitive to minorities, though I don’t get that feeling from the staff. The rooms are clean. It’s a midway point between the Triangle and Charleston. I’m meeting a friend there. We used to joke that about it cause it was just so crazy but the closer you look, the weirder it gets so we decided to stay there once and now we’re going back again.

ETA: The hotels on the NC side of Exit 1 in Rowland are also disgusting.

The Midtown motor inn in Gastonia gets my vote. Looks like it currently has two and a half Stars and people warning you of bed bugs on the top comments. One interesting thing about it is it's the rundown hotel that Ricky Bobby's dad stays at in Talladega nights.

Beachfront (or close) hotels/inns?

Posted by Khaleeesi · in r/NorthCarolina · 2 years ago

I'm looking to stay at the beach for 3-4 nights and I struggle to find the right accomodations. It's just two of us so I don't want to spend thousands to rent a whole house for a week, but still want something private and close to the beach. We usually stay at Sunset Inn which is the perfect spot, small, quiet inn a couple blocks from the beach. Looking for a similar vibe at any other quiet beach. Any suggestions?

Edit: Not looking for this summer! Maybe later in the fall or ideas for next year. Haven't had great luck with AirBnB because a lot of properties have week long minimum stays or seem to cater to large families. But also open to smaller cottage suggestions if you know of any! Looking in the range of $300ish/night or less.

For the Fall I’m a fan of grabbing the nice oceanfront Airbnbs in Carolina Beach (they’re usually booked solid and too expensive in the summer). So much cheaper in the off season and it’s kinda fun to walk the beach wearing a jacket and no crowds

[Charlotte] Best Hotel/Motel for long term stay?

Posted by I-Like-NSFW-420 · in r/NorthCarolina · 1 year ago

Im currently homeless living in a storage unit and soon to get unemployment. Im looking to find the best place to stay at, preferably a week at a time as inexpensive as possible. I do have job starting soon, but not a guaranteed 40hrs. On the side i pick up gigs where I can.

Im looking for a place with a kitchenette or at least somewhere to cook nearby. Same with laundry. Going through booking, the cheapest places have all bad reviews which typically is smell, customer service or pests. The latter I prefer to avoid. Also during my research, i discovered some places are picky about who stays based on their current address. Because of this, im hesitate on telling anyone I am homeless.

I dont care where in the city it is as long as its along a bus stop or a few minute walk from one. Currently im stay at a place that ranges from $50-$70 any given day. Its a 10min walk from the bus stop, but no kitchen or laundry. Furthermore, a week stay obviously would be expensive. I dont exactly have a budget in mind but I am trying to stretch my money pit so i can at least go out to eat once in a while.

I would post in r/charlotte but they would just remove it or at the very least, I would get no help as the majority of the commenters arent helpful to say the least.
