TL;DR
Recommended Brands
Clinique is frequently mentioned as a top choice for individuals with sensitive skin due to its hypoallergenic products [1:1]
[5:2]. Almay is another brand that users have had positive experiences with, particularly for those prone to eczema and hives
[4:1]
[5:3]. Neutrogena and Pur also offer products that cater to sensitive skin, with Neutrogena's Sheers and Pur's pot concealer being noted for their gentle application
[4:2].
Asian Beauty Brands
Korean and Japanese makeup brands are praised for their emphasis on skincare in their products. Stylenanda and Missha are two brands that are often recommended for sensitive skin [1:3]. However, it's important to note that some Missha products may contain fragrances that could trigger reactions in sensitive skin
[1:4].
Fragrance-Free Options
For those with extremely sensitive skin, avoiding products with fragrances is crucial. Fragrance can be a common irritant, so opting for fragrance-free or low-fragrance products is advisable [5:1]. Tower 28's new SPF foundation is suggested as a potential option for sensitive skin
[4:3].
Quick Application Products
For individuals seeking quick and easy makeup routines, products like Supergoop glow screen, NARS tinted moisturizer, and Daness Myricks blurring balm tinted primer are recommended [2:2]
[2:3]. These products can be applied quickly with fingers and provide a natural look without extensive blending.
Additional Tips
Ensure that makeup products are not expired, as they can harbor bacteria and lead to skin reactions [5:5]. It's also beneficial to maintain a simple skincare routine to support the health of sensitive skin
[2:2]. If you're new to makeup, consider starting with minimal products and gradually experimenting with different brands and types to find what works best for your skin
[5:4].
I have very sensitive skin and eyes, especially when it comes to makeup. I'm looking for makeup products that are safe for someone like me. Everytime I use eyeliner, mascara, or eyeshadow then I start tearing up like I just witnessed the cutting of an onion. And some products can leave my skin feeling dry and itchy, and the worst is when I start getting red skin or pimples from products. Because of this, I have abstained from wearing makeup for years, but I want to get back into it again and have fun with my creativity.
Any suggestions?

Honestly, I love Korean and Japanese brands. They're great for sensitive skin, since Asian countries put more emphasis on skin care in everyday products than most western countries, but they can be tricky to find if you don't order online. Stylenanda and Missha are 2 very goods brands that come to mind
To be honest, as much as I like Missha BB cream and sometimes use their primer, because of quite a fragrance I wouldn't recommend it to someone with sensitive skin and/or nose. Ingredients that make it smell as much as it does, may trigger skin reaction, and smell itself may cause headache :(
Honeybee Gardens has never irritated my eyelids. Great, affordable eyeshadow pallettes.
I'll take a look and see :) thanks!
Clinique is great for sensitive skin!
Thank you! I'll check it out :)
For reference I have very dry and sensitive skin and find that because my skin is so difficult it takes forever to make foundation and concealer look okay. I have my skincare routine down so I an happy with that. Honestly the more time I spend trying to make it look okay, the more it effects my mental health. I just want something I can throw on that I don't have to spend ages on perfecting.
I have very dry, sensitive skin, and when I'm running out the door (after I've cleansed and moisturized) I use Supergoop glow screen, let it sink in a little, then do NARS tinted moisturizer, all just applied with my fingers. I have to do concealer because I have very dark, sunken circles, so I do Haus Labs on my undereyes. But if you drink plenty of water, eat your fruits and veggies, and maintain a simple skincare regimen, that will be enough!
Daness Myricks blurring balm tinted primer. It functions as a primer but also as a foundation! I typically just slap that on with my fingers, caliray mascara, Ami Cole multistick sachu lipliner in hay-zel and whatever lipgloss and I'm good to go.
I absolutely recommend the DM blurring tinted balm as well for this. After that I was add mascara, blush, colored lip balm and maybe some eyebrow pencil.
Missha Perfect Cover can just be slapped on with your fingers and it looks very natural.
This!!! So affordable. The only con is that it has a floral scent
Sunless tanner or spray tan
Skincare prep
Sunscreen - supergoop or TJs dupe
Touche eclat under the eyes
Clear brow gel
Clear mascara
Benetint lips and cheeks
Clinque black honey lip balm or Burts bees lip balm (inside inner rim of bottom lip is most natural color)
That routine sounds gorgeous!!! I am a little worried about touche éclat not being enough coverage. I know they make a "high cover" version of it so that may be more suitable.
I actually did have benetint but I think I lost it during an international move so idk where it is now. I might look at the other colours they do as I remember not loving it on my skin tone
Fuller coverage = more blending and seeing more of an "edge". Your description calls for nearly transparent makeup
Tinted spf
Any one in particular?
It’s what you like. My favorite right now is the hero one. But it is barely there tiny. Eucerin has a tinted one that is perfect coverage, but it’s too dark for me. I love the IT cosmetics c c cream nude glow, but if you use enough for SPF I don’t like the way it looks. Naturium has a new tinted one. I will try that when I am buying my next tinted one. I tried Misha BB and the shades were too not right for me. I love the untinted Naturium. So I hope the shade works for me.
I’ve been basically makeup-free since 2018 (bad depressive/suic**al/eating disorder/etc) and have finally been finally up to experimenting again or at least looking more presentable. I’m not comfortable using foundation as I’ve FINALLY gotten my skin clear after years of acne & constant breakouts! However, eye makeup, eyebrows & lips are what I ’d like some suggestions with! I like to focus on my eyes, they’re green/hazel & I like to have them stand out :) Any tips/product recs are appreciated! I work with babies on the daily & I sweat a lot at work lol so nothing too heavy!
I am MUCH older but also have extremely sensitive skin, as I’ve aged. I’ve struggled to find simple cleansers and moisturizers that did not cause some type of negative reaction over the past several years! Even the ones that claim to be specifically for sensitive skin have still dealt me misery. I’ve wasted more $$$ than I care to add up, but at the same time I haven’t been able to afford a large amount for a single purchase…..if that makes any sense. If it were more affordable for me, personally I would still be using the Roden and Fields brand cream cleanser in the tube with the green label, the moisturizer in the tub/jar with the blue label. Those two combined worked best for my skin to eliminate the dry, red, patchy, burning and inflamed areas on my face. That was also after I had gone to a dermatologist for help, bought the expensive products they had prescribed and it only made worse! Luckily I have family members that are aware that I can’t afford certain skin care that have proven helpful and beneficial so I was gifted at Christmas a large tub of the Clinique moisturize surge which is my current moisturizer. I also recently discovered a gel cleanser that is working amazingly well! Plus it was a dollar general buy so not expensive!
Your beautiful girl just keep smiling....
I have super sensitive skin too!! I like to just do eyeliner and mascara. I comb and shape my eyebrows, but I don't usually use product. And a moisturizing tinted gloss will almost never steer you wrong!!
Congrats on starting to feel better and more on top of things!! Don't let yourself become ego-chained to makeup or tie your self-confidence to it. I feel like I'm constantly learning and unlearning to like how I look both with and without makeup.
My skin is very eczema and hives prone. Any little thing sets me off. I've been to many dermatologists and doctors but like many others, they just say I'm sensitive. I LOVE makeup but most of it makes me flare or I can only wear it like twice a week before it begins to bother me. What are some brands of makeup, specifically for like foundation/concealer and eyeliner/mascara that is favored for people like me? I can't use anything with any smell or at least lasting smell. Thanks!
I’ve had good experiences with Pur and Neutrogena. I prefer to use Neutrogena’s Sheers on my face and Pur’s pot concealer sparingly in the areas I need extra coverage.
Try tower 28s new SPF foundation!
Almay
This question is for all my sensitive skin besties or people who just wanna share.
About a month ago I used my favorite eyeshadow pallet (which I have never had issues with before) and I broke out severely around my eyes, lips, and cheeks. I used eyeshadow, a highlight, blush, eyeliner, and clean brushes. It frustrated me so bad and I want to put makeup on again, i'm just very scared I will have another reaction. I will admit I probably did something wrong, granted im not very knowledgable on makeup and application.
If anyone knows any tips or brands that is hypoallergenic i would really appreciate it!
clinique! all of their products are hypoallergenic, their mascara is the only one i’m not allergic to and i’ve never broken out from their eyeshadows, foundations, or lip products. if you’re having a reaction to a product you’ve used in the past no problem it’s possible it’s gone bad. this is less common with powder products like eyeshadows but they can still get moldy. if the brushes were new, it’s also possible that they were treated with chemicals during the manufacturing process that were never washed off, so if you wash them with a gentle cleanser it’s possible that could fix it too.
Almay, Clinique, Eucerin, cetaphil, Cerave
Are you sure it was the makeup that caused the reaction? You don't list any lip makeup but list your lips as breaking out as well. It almost sounds like more of a skincare product reaction since the irritation was on the majority of your face.
In my experience, what is irritating/sensitizing to your skin is somewhat personalized. If you have sensitive skin def stay away with things with fragrance and unnecessary ingredients, but you could also be sensitive or allergic to specific ingredients for no particular reason (eg niacinimide, pigments like carmine, preservatives, lack of preservatives/stabilizers, etc).
I actually put blush around my chin and lips. I don't use any skincare products either. Thank you for the advice as well, a lot of this is new to me and very confusing 😅
So how do you remove makeup?
I don't use any skincare products either.
I strongly recommend rectifying this ASAP.
Your makeup is likely expired. They have expiration dates because they will start to harbor bacteria after that!
Clinique
I recently had issues with my eyes, so I had to stop wearing makeup. My doctor gave me the all clear that I can wear makeup again but I’m still having issues with sensitivity even after deep cleaning my brushes/everything. Can anyone recommend any makeup that is good for sensitive skin.
Clinique cosmetics are allergy-tested, might be a good brand to try.
Just a word of caution, I reacted to every Clinique product I ever tried, so your mileage may vary.
Thank you for the recommendation, unfortunately I’ve tried Clinique and it just doesn’t work for me.
Estee lauder double wear is great. I have sensitive skin as well. The foundation does not have any parfum nor fragrance so it does not irritate.
I found a mascara that works!! It’s from ilia.
Going to find eyeliner/eyeshadow next
Hi! You might want to checkout SkinSAFE. They rate products on how free they are from the top common allergens. I make sure all the products I use are 100% SkinSAFE + EyelidSAFE. Because I had really bad eyelid dermatitis for awhile.
What sensitivities have you had before? Breaking out? Redness? Burning?
Stay away from anything "illuminating". It can cause a burning sensation.
I’ve had the occasional stye, but that would go away after a warm tea bag on my eye. But this was different, it was actually after someone did my makeup for a friend’s wedding.
A week after i noticed the skin around my eye to be extremely sensitive and painful that i stopped wearing makeup and had to go to the doctor.
The feeling was more along the lines of a sharp stinging.
I am also starting to wonder if it could have been eyelash glue
Did they use your mascara or did you share a mascara? If you shared a mascara, that's 10000%%%%% the problem. Find a good mascara and never share it with anyone ever. You can go cheap but good with Essence Lash Princess line and more expensive but amazing would be YSL Lash Clash. Those two are my favorites.
I’m a 19-year-old female and my relationship with makeup has always been a challenge. I have extremely sensitive skin. Even the doctor was amazed at how sensitive skin is even as a newborn. I suffered from severe acne at the ages of 13 - 16. I use to cover it up with super heavy foundation and that made everything 100x worse. I went to a dermatologist and finally got everything cleared up and I’ve had a good skincare routine for about three years. My skin is definitely not perfect but I am starting to feel confident enough to try to wear makeup again. I was wondering if anyone had any foundation brands suggestions for super sensitive acne-prone skin. Fragrance and squalene I know for a fact break me out. I am also looking for a good contour set suggestion. Thank you!
Hi, I also have really sensitive skin! I can't even use hand sanitizer most days because it will make my hands crack & bleed.
I have used Urban Decay's Stay Naked foundation for a decade and loved it, but recently decided to try Rare's weightless foundation and I am really enjoying it. I will be trying Rare's tinted moisturizer when it arrives as well!
I won't lie though, ever since getting my skin into a good place, I often go without foundation/concealer and just do blush, highlighter, mascara, brows and a lip balm after my morning skincare routine. The fresh face look is in right now!
What would you recommend for face cleanser and moisturizer? I've been trying to find products.
I like IT cosmetics celebration foundation. I have dry, sensitive skin. Everything else I haven’t been allergic to has been discontinued.
Look into Korean makeup, they make really sensitive skin friendly products with sun screen and loads of skincare products in them.
I have pretty sensitive and oily skin myself; I've always been a huge fan of Bare Minerals' Liquid Foundation! The only slight drawback is that while it is buildable, you have to build it quickly because as soon as it dries (and it dries fairly quick) it'll pick up off your face if you try to add more
I'm 46 and have very sensitive skin with acne and rosacea. (It should be against natural law to have wrinkles and acne at the same time!) I use Alima powder foundation almost exclusively and have for over a decade. They have a fantastic shade selection as well as a number of other products. I have a number of blushes, eyeshadow, bronzer, and highlighters. I plan to get a shade of foundation a few shades darker to use for contour but just haven't yet. Every now and again I try a drugstore or even higher end liquid foundation, but I usually regret it. I recently purchased Catrice and wore it twice without an obvious issue, but I believe that has fragrance, which would rule it out for you. I also tried L'Oreal True Match Serum foundation and the ELF Halo Glow and noticed CCs and had a small breakout.
Good luck!
So I have very sensitive eyes and as a result, if anything gets in them they water pretty significantly. This means that if I'm wearing makeup, it starts dissolving in patches around my eyes, especially around the outer corner. I've tried to deal with this by finding super heavy-duty waterproof products, but nothing has ever really been good enough for my super-tears. I've tried some of the "hypoallergenic" drugstore options like Marcelle and Almay and they don't seem to do the trick either. At this point I've stopped wearing eyeshadow and eyeliner altogether, which is a bummer because I love makeup.
I'm wondering if I'm approaching this the wrong way. Is it perhaps my generic drugstore/sephora makeup thats causing the sensitivity in my eyes? Has anyone ever discovered a brand of eyeshadow, eyeliner, etc. that doesn't irritate super sensitive eyes?

I also have decently sensitive eyes and I figured out that a decent shadow primer and then setting spray really helps cut down on the fallout. I don’t remember what brand I use for shadow primer but it’s in a little clear container with a light purple lid, it’s kind of like a creamy consistency but still super easy to put on with a brush or just with a clean finger. And then some setting spray
Thanks for the tip! Does this help with longevity as well, esp when it comes to water/tear exposure?
For me personally it does! I’m not like a super fancy makeup artist but I know it helps me, mine stays on when forget to take it off before I nap sometimes 😅 eyeliner and mascara are a different ballgame tho because they come off a lot easier if they’re not waterproof, so I’ve got no ideas there, your shadow should stay put tho for the most part tho!!
Does anyone have any makeup or skincare that’s for sensitive skin that you love? I’ve been feeling a lot of burning from new products Ive been trying so I want to try switching to more sensitive skin friendly products.
You rang? 📞 lol this is my fave topic. I have very sensitive, acne prone, clog prone, combo skin. Everywhere. Neutral/olive skin tone and veryyy pale

If any of this gets discontinued I will be unwell 😭
Could you not find a comparable brow pen in a similar color (I’m genuinely curious as someone who uses exclusively cool toned brow products)? I was also wondering if the Fenty Eazy Drops emphasizes dry patches? I saw it in my shade in my local TJ Maxx recently but I didn’t pick it up because I’ve never tried the formula before.
I want to try the new L’Oréal brow pen. I like the NYX ones but the color was never right for me :/ the eaze drop tint can cling to patches, you have to moisturize and prep really well.
FWIW Kevyn Aucoin is the only brow pen I've spotted with ingredients that I'm not sensitive to. The blonde and gray shades are very cool-toned.
Keep in mind that allergies and sensitivities vary significantly from person to person and there is no truly generic option for sensitive skin with anything. You will get the best results by keeping track of ingredients that may be potential issues for you, personally. When trying new products, introduce them one at a time spaced several days apart so you can positively identify what is causing any new adverse reactions.
My skin is pretty reactive and I have eczema, but most of my specific contact dermatitis triggers are not among the most common ones so many products specifically marketed for sensitive skin actually are not viable options for me.
-Prequel Gleanser
-La Roche Posay Toleraine Hydrating Gentle Cleanser
-Kate Somerville DeliKate moisturizer
Super reactive with rosacea here. Skincare: deliverance serum and instant angel from Dieu. Beauty of Joseon rice probiotic sunscreen. I've found avoiding full coverage makeup is okay for my skin. Kosas concealer, rare beauty liquid blush. I haven't found a mascara that doesn't bother my eyes, but I'm still searching!
I have increasingly sensitive eyes and have had great luck with the Merit tubing mascara. I order it online as the tubes in store tend to be older & dried out.
Thanks! I've tried Thrive tubing mascara but it's still irritating. I'll give Merit a try next.
I love the Avene Cicalfate range, I use the serum, eye cream, and moisturiser most nights since I had a bad reaction to an exfoliator a few months ago. For my extremely sensitive skin, I test everything before I incorporate a new product into my routine. Also, the combination of active ingredients can cause irritation, so be careful when layering
There is also a sunscreen that serves me well when my skin barrier is compromised! Love the whole line as well
I am obsessed with the cicalfate serum - I didn't know there was an eye cream too!
