TL;DR
Defense Operators
Rook is frequently recommended as the best choice for beginners on defense. His gadget involves placing armor plates that help teammates even after you die, allowing new players to focus more on learning the game rather than complex gadget mechanics [1:1]
[2:8]
[5:1]. Kapkan is another solid choice with simple traps that can be placed in common routes, and his gun is easy to control
[2:1]
[2:3]. Mute offers a straightforward "fire and forget" gadget that blocks enemy drones and electronics, making him a useful team player
[4:1].
Attack Operators
Sledge is highly recommended for attack due to his user-friendly guns and straightforward gadget, which allows him to breach soft walls easily [2:2]
[5:3]. Thatcher is suggested for those who prefer a less aggressive play style; he has great guns and his EMP grenades are crucial for disabling enemy electronics
[5:6]. Lion is also mentioned as a good beginner attacker with a simple ability that helps coordinate team pushes
[4:2].
Stealth and Tactical Play
For players who enjoy stealth, operators like Nokk and Caviera offer abilities that enhance stealth gameplay. Nokk becomes invisible to cameras, while Caviera can use silent step and interrogate downed enemies to reveal their teammates' locations [1:4]
[1:5]. These operators might require more advanced map knowledge but can be rewarding for players interested in stealth tactics.
General Tips
It's important for beginners to focus on learning the maps and understanding basic game mechanics rather than worrying about being at the top of the scoreboard [2:10]. New players should experiment with different operators to find what suits their playstyle and gradually learn the intricacies of the game
[3:4]. Avoid operators like Ash initially, as they might give a misleading impression of the game's tactical nature
[5:10].
So I'm getting into Rainbow 6 Siege and I don't know who to play. In most shooter games, I typically like stealth over firepower, but not sniping. I tend to roll with a silenced FMAS and a SPAS-12. I am open to trying any character.
Edit: After playing for a while, I found that Blitz is really fun! I wasn't expecting to love a character who doesn't follow my usual playstyles but his flash shield is so much fun to use.
Rook is the best choice for defense. You simply lay down the plates and you've already helped your team. His gun is very good as well. Thunderbird is also a good choice since she can put down boxes that heal you or your team. The Spear is the best weapon for her.
Offense is a bit more tricky. Fenka is a good beginner choice because uyou get heals that can revive someone who is down-but-not-out, which can be a game changer. You simply need to watch the team's health bars. She has the spear assault rifle as well. Don't get grenades as a newbie. I see people killing or hurting their teammates all the time because of grenades. (Also, since the nerf, grenades aren't that great anyways.). You could also go with Thatcher and follow around the hard breachers (thermite, ace, hibana) and EMP any schockies on walls for them, but he's best when on of those other characters is being played.
Some of the easiest ops for beginners are to play are rook, lesion or thorn for defending. And lion or sledge for attacking.
Ignoring “meta” ops and considering that you lean towards stealth I would recommend Nokk and Zero for attack, Cav and Vigil for defense
Some of those may not be SUPER beginner friendly (I’m not positive since it’s been a while since I’ve been a beginner) Overall best “beginner op” would probably be Rook simply because his gauge is a set and forget type gadget and he starts with solid guns. Allows you to focus more on learning the maps ect rather than figuring out a complex gadget.
Spas-12 cav (she has silent step and interrogates to reveal enemy location)
FMG-9 Nokk (invisibility to cameras and stuff)
Both on and off topic, off topic is that sound is almost everything in siege since it’s inside a building with a bunch of walls and doorways and also vigil cavierra and knock are great for stealth
Hello! I’m somewhat new to this game but I kind of struggle in ranked and most times appear on the very bottom of the scoreboard. Is there any recommendations for beginner operators?
on attack I would say that sledge or thacher is good for attacking because they both have the L85 which is a very easy gun to use and both have useful abilities which are also simple. on defense I would say rook or mute since they both have easy gun to use mainly the mp5 and mk5k and there abilities are also useful even after you die.
Yea I have played sledge the most because he seemed easy but I was thinking of trying buck out because I read he does what sledge does but better. Thatcher seems interesting but he seems to get banned a lot
Kapkan is a good start on defense he's who I started with, and you can put his trap almost anywhere by popular routes and someone will hit em and his gun isn't very hard to control
Kapkan. Easy gun and simple gadget. Place the traps spread out from each other at various heights. His smg has low recoil and the shotgun is pretty good as well
Like I said in the other comment I feel that lesion is better than him. Better guns and a more versatile and faster gadget. I feel like if you can, you’re gonna wanna go Lesion over Kap.
I'd generally agree with you, but someone else made a good point regarding new players. Kap can help teach the map more than Lesion can, and his gadget is easier to understand.
He’s also really fun because he’s a great beginner op and as you get better and smarter with the game he can become even more useful to you.
I found rook to be quite good when I started playing
Yea I tried him I like him a lot, and I like that his gadget I don’t really need skill to use I just plop it on the ground lol
Mute is a great choice, he's usually my go to operator when I'm getting stomped on
There’s a pro with a 0.5 k/d ratio, don’t worry about being at the top of the scoreboard just have fun and enjoy the experience of learning the game.
I honestly miss when I knew nothing about siege, such a fun game with so much to discover.
operators with abilities that help the team after your death.
The question is actually to help my friends that are starting in r6 and a couple of them been playing a while but are just buns lmao . I’ve been playing since year 1 but now that am starting to play with new people I forgot how was to start and which operator are best to start with . Any help ?
On attack, the AK-12 used by Ace and Fuze is easy to use for a beginner.
On defence, Kapkan’s 9x19 basically has no recoil. Mute’s MP5K is also a good choice, but mute’s gadget is important, so I’d suggest he looks up how to use the jammers properly if he chooses that OP. It’s a good way to get him into team play too. You mention multiple friends so you can have them do mute/castle combos, etc.
Obviously flash hider and vertical grip attachments for all of them.
I’m a new player and I’m having a good time with the AK-12 and the 9x19
I feel like the ak12 is harder to control (at least on console) than a lot of other guns. The L85 on sledge and thatcher for example is super easy to use. This is coming from somebody who is very new (well returning from when the game first came out) and very bad. I bought Ace and am not sure if I’m a huge fan of his gun tbh
The game has an absolute mountain of knowledge to learn. And being "good" at lesion isn't going to allow them to beat a veteran anyways. Tell them to read the abilities and play whoever sounds the most interesting. Play solely to have fun while slowly learning the game. And the match making should (as long as they aren't queued with a smurf or a veteren) get matched against other noobs.
People also greatly exaggerate how "important" it is that certain operators are played well. Play mute and put the jammers anywhere. It doesn't matter. Mute is not an operator that is essential to any site in the game. Majority of my games in emerald don't even have him present. If that stuff doesn't even matter in emerald then it sure as heck doesn't matter for a new player in standard, casual, or copper ranked. Azami is another example. I've never in my life looked up where the barriers are "supposed to go". I place them wherever I feel and I still have a 60% round winrate with her over 260 rounds. The only exception I can think of off the top of my head is Goyo and maybe clash. People love to police how their teammates play the game. Just let people have fun in a digital toy.
I would argue against Smoke until they have better map knowledge and learn common breach points, etc.
playing smoke/mute, you will HAVE to learn breach points, lineups, drone holes, etc.
Smoke is actually a great way to learn common chokes and experiment with what you can/can't break in the maps. Maybe for a returning player it'd be okay, for a new one you're right it's a bit too much
yes. good gun, lots of utility. a very flexible op.
Valkyrie's mpx is easy to handle imo just gotta find good spots for cams and lion is pretty simple he has a good dmr and i pretty much wait until right after breaching or during the chaos to use his scans and help the team
If you want really safe options for new players, IMO...
Attack: Ace, Grimm, and Nomad
Defense: Lesion, Kapkan, Melusi, Doc / Rook
Fett is a bit more difficult, use Blackbeard, you may be called a bitch but it’s a good stepping stone to improvement
Good luck if you want to play him in ranked though, at least in my games he's basically perma banned.
If you’re very new to the game, I’d recommend Rook on defense and maybe Lion on attack, just until you catch your bearings. With Rook you literally just place your ability (body armor), on the ground behind some cover, and defend from a good spot. No needing to upkeep and monitor your ability and all you really should be doing is chilling in the obj behind some good cover with a good angle. With Lion there is some depth to his ability, mainly that it’s best to coordinate when your teammates want to push an obj, but there isn’t much else to him. Both ops have great guns that will get you up to speed. Have fun!
Give a tip that doesn’t require paying for an OP. Rook, thumbs up, but you gotta pay for Lion. Any tips for an attacker OP other than Lion?
That’s true, I didn’t even think about that. Id recommend sledge since not much is required of you.
Defense: Rook, kapkan, mute, jager (his recoil might be too much for you and that’s ok)
Attack: sledge, thatcher, iq, fuze
Sledge and lesion, they’re good everywhere have very easy guns and you probably won’t hurt your team while using them.
Expecting too much of them with sledge. You have to understand vertical play which beginners don't know.
Best way to learn tho, you’ll either figure it out or have mates help you, putting them on ash zof or buck just has to much possibility to waste utility
The less chance you give a new player to hurt the team the less chance of them having a toxic experience which I think is worth accounting for
Mute is easily the best starting defender. Thatcher or ash are good starting attackers
Ash probably isn’t good to start currently
why? r4c is controllable even for newbs, g36 is also good.
Site setup and jammer placements are probably to much to put on a new player
Someone who is brand new doesn’t have to care about site setup at all, and will probably just be either anti-droning or placing jammers near reinforced walls.
Mute has a useful fire and forget gadget as well as a solidly mid-tier SMG with easy recoil, plus other utility like C4. He’s also a 2 speed which is ideal.
Of course if you ask a level 1 to play a ranked level shotgun, anchor mute they’re going to struggle but he’s a great op for new players to just mess around with in newcomer / casual.
I like tactical shooters and team play if this helps for suggestions for operators.
Rook for defense, even if you die early on you still helped your allies, and has a good smg, dont use the p90 tho
Sledge is good on attack his guns are extremely noob friendly, his gadget is easy to use he just busts through soft walls, use the L8 rather than the shotgun
Yeah sledge is the most balanced operator in the game, I don’t really like his gadget that much, not really my thing but he’s extremely user friendly
I hear sledge is a very offensive operator but I’m new, should I go a little less offensive for an attack operator?
If you’re feeling passive try thatcher, he has great guns all round and is a big help to the team
If you’re feeling aggressive in your play style go for kills, learn how to fend for yourself before travelling deep into ranked
If you play sledge just break shit cause behind those walls are opportunities for wall bangs once you remember what it looks like without a wall. Also floors are destructible too. Wood, dry wall, marble are destructible. Also when hiding make sure you know what bullets can penetrate through.
Its not bad. Simply the mp5 is better in most cases. Plus for a new player its much easier to control.
P90 is a high fire rate/mag capacity low damage weapon. Its oly good if you can pick off headshots. Otherwise the MP5 is a better option
It's just goofy, some people swear by it but those are the same people who main recruit and think real gadgetsvarent useful
Don’t stick with Ash too much. She may give you the wrong understanding of the game.
Rook is definitly the best defense choice. U press 1 button then even when u die u still helped ur team. Plus his mp5 is a nice gun to start with.
I played siege back when the beta came out and then never really touched it again until recently. I've always been a better than average FPS player so i'm not too worried about aiming or learning the maps I know that just comes with time. Im more wondering about the operator meta. Which operators should I be looking to unlock first and which are most useful? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Siege is a lot different than most other shooters in that good aim will only take you so far. There’s so many different positioning things to learn and when to be aggressive vs. passive through the course of a round, etc. the top comment has the good ops in there. You also can’t go wrong with simple ops that always have good utility like mute, Doc, bandit, any hard breacher, thatcher, Nomad, Maverick.
yeah right i’ve seen people in champ rank just sit on their phone during prep and run in with ash every round. the game takes a lot of skill but people who are good enough or lucky enough because of the shitty rank system can easily make it to the highest rank if they play enough games
Well yes, there are problems with ranked 2.0 but that doesn’t change how the game of Siege is played. There are definitely cracked aim bot players out there that can outgun over strategizing. But that person against a coordinated team that is working well together and positioning themselves well is almost always going to be able to handle the cracked aim players. There’s only time I really see cracked fraggers pop off without stratting at all is because they’re in solo q and the enemy team is not working together. Or their own team is stratting well and they are playing off of them for kills which also helps them a lot.
Defense: Fenrir->Aruni->Deimos->Maestro->Kaid. Attack: Deimos->Skopos->Ace->Finka->Kali->Osa Fenrir so you can learn how to swing off of intel, Aruni to practice entry denial, Maestro to gather intel, and Kaid to understand wall denial. Deimos to encourage better droning, Ace to learn what walls should be opened, Finka to learn how health mechanics work, Kali to enhance long range aim (or simply be a rat), and Osa to practice a defending role in an offensive position.
Thank you!
Np. If you have any questions, just ask.
The operators I like are Lesion, Castle, Melusi, Zero and castle. It depends on how you play though. Also, something I usually forget is too pre-fire a lot. If you think someone is around the corner. Wall bang him and shoots while you check around the corner. I get a lot more kills now that I pre fire more.

There’s a lot of useful operators in the game. Definitely the best currently are:
Defense: Fenrir, Tubarao, Azami, Melusi, Doc, and Goyo
Attack: Ace, Brava, Dokkabei, Ram
But there’s still so many great ones. So do your due diligence.
Tubarão is so underrated literally nobody in low ranks uses him
And it’s so easy to trick walls with someone running kaid
Thanks for the help
Just picked up the game and was wondering what operators are good and what is good for both defense and offense.
Pretty much all the base ops, it really depends on your playstyle.
For my my favorite starter ops were
Defense: Rook, mute, kapkan and jager
Offence: Fuze (I know he isn't great but he is fun), Twitch, Thatcher and sledge.
Buy both the breachers, Thermite and Hibana. Also, Thatcher (you could technically run Kali if you're a pr0 gam3r gurl, since her gadget will drop the Bandit batteries behind walls which is what Thatcher uses his gadget on 95% of the time). Those are the main attackers that a good team comp will want, and you'll always be good picking one of those three.
For defenders, Rook is a big one. As a new player, you'll probably anchor sites since it's a more comfortable role holding corners. He has a drop and forget gadget, and it's arguably the most important to the team. Otherwise, play what looks interesting to you. There a lot of useful operators, so find your niche, and ask again what operators fill that niche.
Sledge is easy af to play for attacking and for defense I’d go with rook or doc while you get used to the game
Try each one out then you’ll find it who your good with and who you’re not the best with
Attackers like Sledge, Zofia and Buck are all pretty well-rounded Ops without much intricacy in their roles. Finka is also a player-friendly Op in that her gadget temporarily heals/overheals the whole team and reduces weapon recoil for its duration. Popping it before an engagement can give new players confidence to push objective and take gunfights.
Defenders with camera gadgets like Valkyrie, Echo, Maestro and Mozzie are generally safe picks, but there is learning curve in terms of knowing where to place them, albeit a slight one (a quick YT vid can help). Rook is also a great team player by providing the squad with body armor while trap Ops like Lesion, Kapkan, Ela and Frost will always slow an opponent's push, if nothing else, and can even net you a free kill now and again.
Ash, cuz just use her broken hitbox/weapon and speed to win every gun fight, no strategy require Jager, it's basically an Ash on defense Rook, if you manage to use his ability incorrectly you should unistall cuz its literally placing down t-shirt Sledge, he's like a basic character, not too much recoil, 2 speed, a very useful gadget. And some decent weapon
Ashes r4c is easily countered, if you complain about it you my good dude, are just bad. Same goes for Jager.
For beginners, Ash weapon is amazing for beginners cuz it have no recoil and a decently fast firerate. Also Jager is amazing, i love Jager don't say hes bad please );
Sledge, lion, rook, and mute are very bigger friendly
I wouldnt consider Rook one, 80% of new players who use Rook, don't understand his "unique" ability.
This is a joke, right?
Any that doesn't require you to throw things down, put things in place or that a team needs from you.
Rook and Sledge. Rook is great because even if he dies within ten seconds he’s still been useful for the team by placing his armor plates and Sledge has a low recoil heavy hitting primary in the L85A2.
Hey all,
I recently started playing Siege on PC(as in today) and I’m currently around level 2 or 3, still unranked. I have very little map knowledge so far, and it’s safe to say I’ve been getting stomped most games — but I know that’s part of the learning process.
From the gameplay I’ve seen, I’m really interested in Nøkk, but I know I’m nowhere near ready to use her effectively yet, and I definitely don’t have the Renown to unlock her right now.
My main questions are: 1. Which operators should I prioritize unlocking on attack and defense? Ideally, I’m looking for beginner-friendly operators that still help me contribute to the team. 2. Once ranked unlocks, should I jump in right away or wait until I have more experience? I’m not sure if the ranked matchmaking will place me with similarly-skilled players or if I should stick to the trials by fire of quick play for now.
I usually try to communicate with my team during matches, but I rarely get responses.
Because of that, I’ve been playing with a friend who’s on console who’s also new. We keep team chat open but rarely get anyone willing to engage(similar to our experience playing with a random third on apex legends lol)
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
For attack I'd say Thermite and Thatcher so you can breach and help breach.
For defense I'd recommend camera operator like Echo, Valkyrie or maestro. So that if you die early you can still look at cameras and help your allies.
Echo and Maestro are both difficult to play, since they have to manage cameras + gadgets. For a newbie I'd rather recommend Kapkan, Lesion or Melusi, all very solid ops.
Thermite and Thatcher are two of like the 4 free operators I got. So def going to start using them more often.
Echo and Valk were also two operators that were on my radar to get. Good to know I was on the right track lol.
Maestro is really good can do damage with his cameras and gets a lmg as defense
You can get Ace instead of thermite. He's the best hard breacher in the game
idk echo and maestro are kind advanced id say like valk smoke mute for defense or any of the trap ops
Nokk is the worst operator in the game right now and even if her gadget wasn’t nerfed you shouldn’t buy such an operator.
Buy bandit, Kaid, thermite, Ace. Learn those four before you think about buying anything else
Next is Mute and Thatcher
If you’re new, it doesn’t matter who you buy tbh. It’s going to take you a few hundred hours to get a light grasp of the game. Don’t buy any alpha packs, just keep buying more ops. 2.) jump in it right away. Even in low ranks, there’s a massive difference between casual and ranked. You won’t become better or get a grasp playing casual. 3.) if you want some help learning, hmu. I’m ex champ on both console and pc.
Thx thx. I appreciate the advice, makes sense that I just need time in the game. especially in a game like this where most people have been playing for way longer. I’ll jump into ranked once it’s unlocked and see how it goes.
Also, thanks for offering to help, I sent you a DM with my Ubi name if that’s cool.
If you have gamepass you can link your Ubisoft account and get a bunch of operators for free! Just wanted to make you aware if you have gamepass and aren’t utilizing it
Below Diamond fs
Just check the operator guides and see who you would like and who would you think would be useful for the type of role you play.
Don't listen to people saying one operator sucks, because every operator is good in some way. Try to watch some tutorials so you can actually understand.
Siege is a lot more than you think it is. You might think you know everything, but you will learn new stuff every single day. Just keep playing and try to do your best.
Best of luck gamer 👍
I’ve started playing the game but i don’t know which operators are best for beginners. Any suggestions? :)
Sledge and rook
For me i say sledge on attack and took on defense.
I like kapkan and thatcher
Sledge and kapkan
Sledge or Ash for attack and rook or Jäger for defence
