TL;DR
Popular Organic Brands
Several brands are frequently mentioned across discussions as top choices for organic makeup. Inika Organic is praised for its customer service and quality BB Cream [1]. 100% Pure mascaras are highlighted as performing well without flaking or smudging
[1:1]. Other popular brands include Elate, RMS Beauty, Kjaer Weis, Well People, Honest Beauty, Ilia, and Pacifica
[2:1]
[3:1].
Product Recommendations
Specific products that users have found effective include Alima Pure blushes and powder products [2:3], Tower 28 gloss, and Well People mascara
[3:3]
[2:1]. Tarte blush is also a favorite among users
[2:5]. For sensitive skin, Dime mascara is recommended as being free from harsh chemicals
[4:1].
Performance and Expiry
One consideration with organic makeup is the potential for faster expiration due to fewer preservatives [3:3]. Users have noted that while organic products can be more eco-friendly, they may not always match the performance of synthetic alternatives
[5:3]. It's important to weigh these factors against personal priorities such as skin sensitivity and environmental impact.
Understanding Labels
There's a distinction between "organic" and "natural" labels. In Europe, organic labels have precise criteria and independent verification, offering some guarantee of authenticity [5:1]. However, "natural" lacks legal definition and can often be used as a marketing claim
[5:1]. When choosing products, consider looking for certified organic labels to ensure credibility.
Environmental and Health Impact
Organic makeup is generally considered better for the environment due to less harmful manufacturing processes [5:3]. However, the environmental benefits can vary depending on specific practices, such as water usage during production
[5:3]. Additionally, while organic ingredients might be perceived as safer, historical use of natural substances like arsenic and lead highlights the importance of understanding ingredient definitions
[5:2].
Hi all!
I use almost exclusively natural/organic makeup products for environmental and health reasons and I thought I'd share my experiences with them in case it's helpful. They can be pricey (although pretty comparable to higher end brands like Too Faced, Urban Decay, etc.) so hopefully my experiences can help you pick before you buy.
Face
BB Cream
Inika Organic - v. pricey, but they have excellent customer service and sent me a bunch of free samples when I didn't like the shade of something they had sent so that was awesome. I think they are an Australian based company, but you can order on Amazon. The consistency of this BB cream feels quite thick and it's a bit shiny, but it goes on smoothly and blends nicely. I have oily skin and it has not made me break out. I don't like using powder foundations and I was really looking for something lighter than a foundation and this is the only BB cream I could find that was relatively chemical free. Does not have SPF though. I really do not like Mineral Fusion's liquid foundations because they feel even thicker.
Primer
Inika Organic - I got this as a sample. So soothing and cooling. I love it and it does make my makeup colors stand out better.
Contour
Mineral Fusion, powder foundation - I just use a darker foundation powder for my contour. Works well, blends well.
Blush
Alima Pure, satin matte blush - very nice. Alima Pure is one of my favorite brands because they have the least ingredients in their products and free shipping. And compared to other organic/natural brands they have so many color options. The application is kind of weird - it's a loose powder that I shake out of the container and sometimes that I means I get too much on my face if I don't swirl it around a bit on the lid - I don't know how others do it. Mineral Fusions blushes are also nice and easier to use, but I don't think they have matte versions.
Concealer
Alima Pure, cream concealer - no complaints. I don't use concealer very much so don't have much to compare to.
Eyes
Mineral Fusion Eyeshadow Palette - some of these are lovely if not a bit too glittery. I wish they had a matte palette, and I've had to resort to Too Faced instead for my matte eye looks.
Burt's Bees Eyeshadow Palette - they're a budget brand and definitely feel like one, but these eyeshadow palettes are not bad at all. Not a ton of options though
Dr. Hauschka eye pencil - oh my gosh this eyeliner is SO SMOOTH. I tried W3ll people, Pacifica, and Mineral Fusion and none of them were as buttery as this one. As someone who likes to do smokey eye, this is so good for blending.
Mascara - I haven't found a good organic/natural brand for my lashes.
Lips
Burt's Bees - Their lip shimmers are nice, but have limited colors. I don't like their lip gloss or lip sticks. Kind of sticky.
Bare Minerals - I don't love that they have lots of chemicals in their brand that I'm sensitive to, but I love the color of their nude shades, so this is currently my go-to when I want to look extra nice.
Make-up removal - I'm sensitive to most all makeup removers, even the so called natural ones, so I just use some oil and wash it off. Then finish with toner.
Hope this is helpful!
Wanted to chime in that 100% Pure brand mascaras are my holy grail. They're the only natural mascaras I've found that perform like "standard" mascara and don't flake or smudge on me. And you've convinced me to try Alima Pure now!
ooh, haven't tried them before actually. I've had bad experiences with 100% pure as a freelancer, but that doesn't mean their products aren't good! I hope you like alima pure and that I haven't led you astray! The only thing that irks me about them is that I find loose powders hard to get used to, but they have other options as well. And of course, they're online so it can be risk when choosing a color!
Unfortunately so many awesome natural brands are online, so I'm kinda used to the constant struggle of color matching! I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience with 100% Pure. That's totally worth factoring into your decision on whether you're willing to try them or not. Being a "better" company doesn't just mean being gentler on the environment. They should also be nice to people!
Hello my makeup mavens!
I am staring down the gullet of the natural and organic beauty world and am lost! Specifically, I'm looking for amazing blush, mascara, and lipstick recommendations but the only natural brand I've used thus far is Kosas (and only their skin oil!).
I would love to know if anyone here has any experience, HGs, or general recos for natural or organic beauty. It doesn't need to be vegan, just mostly looking to try new things!
Burts bees makeup
Alima Pure has a wonderful assortment of blushes/powder products in general, Jane Iredale and Lily Lolo are also awesome!

Check out Tarte blush, it’s my favorite!
Elate, thrive, rms, Kjaer Weiss, well people, honest beauty, salt New York, clove and hallow, ilia, Pacifica, nabla, ofra
Lipstick: axiology
Detox market website is a good place for samples. The well people mascara works really well for me.
Great clean youtuber: Kackie loves beauty (her voice can be kinda annoying at first tho lol)
I’ve been researching clean beauty a lot so lmk if you have any questions
Wow you are a ROCKSTAR for providing this ❤️
Hi everybody. Based on the news today about a new study on makeup ingredients, I was wondering what’s your take on natural brands. What are your favorite brands and products? Which ones should I stay away from? Are they worth the money? Any help is appreciated as I’m completely ignorant about organic makeup. Thanks so much and stay healthy!
Pacifica is a wonderful natural based makeup and skincare line - not sure if it’s organic though.
Thank you! Available online or at Ulta?
Both - they have good sales on their website and I’ve also bought various Pacifica products at Ulta and Target.
I like the tower 28 gloss and products from 100% pure. I do find that many clean beauty products expire alot faster because they have less preservatives.
The articles I read about this topic yesterday told me this: fluorine was found in products advertised as : :long wearing": liquid lipsticks, foundations, waterproof mascaras, etc.
What that told me is ok, this scary ingredient would probably not be in many of my makeup products since I do not wear things advertised as longwearing/ with high staying power.
*Note: I am not a scientist this was just my interpretation based on a few articles I read.
Thank you! Thai is helpful!
Np! This is from r/science as well I found it helpful!
I know there really isn't anything natural about makeup, and I hardly ever wear it. But on occasion I would like to dress up my eyes with a little bit of mascara, eye shadow, or even eyeliner.
I do have very sensitive skin and eyes, and would prefer trusted, high quality brands, that are cruelty free.
I saw some burts bees mascara on Amazon, which is a brand I normally love, but the reviews talked about alot of issues and eyes burning.
No MLM brands please!
Dime mascara is great and free from harsh chemicals #nontoxicmakeupe
So while ‘organic’ may be better for both consumers and the environment, I see this term as more of a marketing gimmick, a clever way to lure in customers who are trying to make more ‘sustainable choices’. They see the words ‘organic’ or ‘natural’ and are immediately willing to buy it, usually without thinking twice. But I guess it wouldn’t be fair to blame them. They think they’re being kinder to the environment by making a smarter choice as an individual. But is this actually a smart choice? I think this completely depends on what you expect from an ‘organic product’. I mean sure there are some genuinely good organic brands out there, made completely out of natural and simpler ingredients. But sometimes the term "organic" could simply mean more eco-friendly practices. So when it comes to effectiveness or performance, it’s better to overlook the words organic or natural. Because they have nothing to do with the quality or functionality of a product. Instead, maybe try to get a better understanding of the ingredients involved in a product and how they function. This would probably help you make a better choice. Just because some natural ingredients may work for you, doesn’t mean that ‘natural’ and ‘organic’ products are always better.
They had lots of natural make up in the 19th century full of arsenic lead mercury all natural. So consider definitions.
I work in drug and cosmetics manufacturing, and a lot with organic cosmetics, since it’s the motto of the brand I’m working for … honestly, it’s a “little” better in terms of manufacturing for the environment and such, like using less harmful detergent ( but we end up using more water to clean… so is it worth it ?). As a professional it’s really conflicting me, but it’s more eco-friendly than anything else. As for efficiency, it’s more of trying to replace the synthetic stuff with organic ones but it’s never really a success (for instance, aloe water is considered organic when it’s aloe powder restructured with water cause water is consider a natural product)…
I think there's a major difference between organic and natural (at least in Europe). There are labels for organic with very precise criteria and independent verifications. So if you have an organic label there is probably at least some sort of guarantee behind it. Obviously it's not perfect, and zero impact doesn't exist, but the claims have to be substantiated. On the other hand, "natural" has no legal definition and no precise criteria, ie a marketing claim.
Another thing that I noticed about organic brands is that they tend to have far less inclusive shade ranges. Most of them have 5 shades of foundation max. They can also have more natural formulas that, because they contain less preservatives, expire faster. Some organic products even contain ingredients like essential oils that some people are allergic or have a sensitivity to. Obviously, there are different brands and not all of them do the same products, but there are definitely upsides and downsides.
As someone who's on a low-buy, I think that the main issue is over-consumption rather than non-organic products. What I mean is that owning one foundation or one eyeshadow palette from a conventional brand does entail environmental impact, but what is even worse is having 20 foundations, or a full drawer of eyeshadow palettes.
So the "right choice" is definitely a mix of educating ourselves on environmental and social concerns, and making more conscientious choices about our purchases :)
(Please don't think I'm being a 'pick-me', I'm certainly not. These are my genuine concerns)
Well, call me brainwashed , but at this point in life, I'm leaning towards an organic, sustainable way of living and makeup is one among them. I watched few Youtube videos which talked about the harsh chemicals, parabans used in makeup and Im paranoid about that.
The top few brands which claim to make organic makeup (as in makeup which is paraban free, and cruelty free and the main ingredients are natural ones) are RUBY ORGANICS, DAUGHTER EARTH AND JUST HERBS.
My questions :
Daughter earth is painfully expensive, but if you have tried and have any suggestions do let me know!.
Any products you tried from the above brands which you didn't like? All these products are way beyond my budget, but I'm willing to go an extra mile for safe organic products. So please share if you didnt feel any product which isn't good.
Talking about the elephant in the room, Are these products actually natural? Organic? Or are these yet an other marketing gimmick.
I tried reading the ingredients list, and compared it with a non-organic brand, certainly the number of chemicals used are way less. But still I want some second strong opinions on this.
But atleast are they decent? Especially for the premium price they're demanding.
For context, A little about me:
I have never tried my hands on makeup. A few times even when Ibwore basic makeup, I felt uncomfortable.
But now that I'm going to corporate meetings, I want to look little presentable. Also I'm a main bridesmaid for my upcoming friend's wedding.
So I'm looking to buy some good organic makeup products, which performes decently good and are also not harmful for skin & health.
Please don't ignore my post, I genuinety need help with this. Thankyou.
Daughter earth concealer is very good. I don't like makeup that's too visible on the skin. It's expensive but a little goes a long way and the finish is good and it doesn't wear off even though I sweat a lot. The shade range is limited though. I had to buy two and blend to get my skintone.
I see..how long does these concelor stays on your face? And whats their shelf life? Do they get molds easily?
It lasts for the workday. Shelf life is okay but I do keep it in the fridge in an airtight container because it's marketed as organic and my state is very humid, didn't want to take chances. I had travelled with it though and even if I don't keep it in the fridge for days it doesn't have any effect. I do use clean fingers or brushes to touch the product and wipe down the sides before putting it back. I had no mold issue.
I've been using various products from Just Herbs since 2020. I love their eyeshadow palette. My recent favourites have been a red matte lipstick and mascara that comes in 2 styles.
The only thing I do not like about the brand is their insistent calling to get reviews. I've confused "JustHerbs" with "JustDial" and even asked them not to bother me lmao. I mean yes I do buy from them every 4-5 months (1149 deal is good and I restock my shampoo) and as a previous small store owner I understand the need for reviews but I can't leave a review very so often for the same product.
Paraben is a preservative it's necessary for products to have a decent shelf life. It's just demonised by some brands to sell their paraben free product range in the market, which is very gimmicky.
+1
Replied on your other post too but will drop the link here too. Please check out this page , it checks out all your concerns.

Girl, it's ok, you aren't a pick me but you're definitely brainwashed and should read more (science/chemistry more specifically and also about green washing since you said you're leaning towards sustainability). But since you're hung up on the "labels", I suggest you check juicy chemistry's makeup line. Heard they perform well.
You should be more worried about heavy metal contamination than the so-called "non-organic and chemical". Please only buy from reputed brands.
I know people have mixed feelings on this subject but looking to incorporate some more organic products in my regime. Wondering if you have any suggestions?
Body Deli (cleansers, scrubs, day/night moisturizer are good, not fan of serums) Not sure how organic but I love: Helan Naturals (only tried the Ginkgo Biloba, Blackberry, and Butcher's Broom Ointment - this will make your face so soft) Jurlique (moisture replenishing cream-cult fav for a reason) Chidoriya (hinoki water-smells like dill just fyi- and rose cream, which smells nice) Fitglow Beauty (lots of good stuff)
Tata Harper is AMAZING. I’ve tried a good 70% of their products so if you have any questions let me know.
Someone mentioned Eminence, but personally I found Eminence products really meh and the textures can be super weird… Definitely recommend testing in person if you can and getting trial/travel sizes before full sizes!
Love the Odacité blue balm and have heard good things about their other products but I can’t vouch.
Haven’t tried Kypris but it looks super appealing.
Agent Nateur has great options. Love the Holi Bright mask.
Juice Beauty tends to not get much hype, but they have a lot of lovely products.
LIVING LIBATIONS!!!! BSE Seabuckthorn… Thank me later.
Moon Juice has a few simple and nice products.
Osea makes nice stuff. Haven’t tried but have heard great things.
Pai Skincare. Love the Light Fantastic oil.
Lush! Currently obsessed with the Beauty Sleep mask. Used Angels on Bare Skin and Let the Good Times Roll for a while, Herbalism too. Gorgeous moisturizer is lovely if you want something really nourishing.
hey I am interested in her moisturisers?
Are there particular ones you’re interested in?
I’ve tried:
fortifying moisturizer (superkind): it pills very easily which is super annoying, but it’s a nice night moisturizer. it’s hydrating but not suuuuper hydrating. I personally wouldn’t repurchase due to the pilling but ymmv
illuminating moisturizer: this is my favourite! pretty hydrating (I have dry skin so I’m a hard judge on that haha), smells great and sort of fruity, and it makes you glow! I get a lot of compliments on my skin when I use it.
creme riche: had a sample and found it meh… I’d spend this money on other lux moisturizers instead. it’s not that rich IMO, but again my skin is dry so I’m a hard judge. it is good, just not good enough that I feel it’s worth the price.
water lock moisturizer: it’s basically like the tatcha water cream! very nice for oilier skin but if you’re dry it definitely won’t do the job.
I only swatched the repairative and hyaluronic gel moisturizers:
the repairative feels nice and pretty hydrating, but again I only swatched. if I were to try another tata moisturizer it would be this one!
the hyaluronic gel one is similar to water lock, but slightly more hydrating. I don’t think it would be enough for dry skin, seems good for normal skin types.
haven’t tried the clarifying. I love the clarifying cleanser and I’m sure it’s a great option for acne prone skin but I can’t vouch whatsoever. haven’t even swatched!
Evan Healy is one of my favorite brands - I love the clay masks, and several of the oils and balms. Their moisturizers/HydroSouls didn’t work for me personally.
Ahhh thank you so much!
Eminence Organics - all of their toners and masks are really nice and have made a difference in my skin when I use them.
100% Pure for body lotions and even some makeup like their blush and lip tint.
Any in particular?
I like the eminence stone crop mist and the mangosteen mist. For masks, yam & pumpkin enzyme peel, Hungarian herbal mud, citrus & kale mask c&e, and stone crop mask.
All the body lotions by 100% Pure smell amazing and actually hydrate your skin!
Thank you for this!!
Banish - made fresh once u order

Greetings MuA! I’ve long been embarking on a DIY journey for just about everything hair, hygiene and household related. Initially it was just a cheaper option that made so much sense! Then I realized how much enjoyment I got out of it. There is a real sense of pride in creating from scratch and seeing results!
I’ve naturally lightened my hair to a full on balayage, 3 years of chamomile and lemon juice and I’m several shades lighter! I use ACV and baking soda for everything I can and love essential oils.
I love creating useful things for around my home, but even more so, I love playing with Makeup. Makeup is the only thing I haven’t been ambitious enough to start dabbling in creating, however I think I’m getting close to confident in giving it a whirl! Basically to get a feel for how it wears, I’ve been trying out lots of different natural/organic makeups.
HOWEVER, I have a lot of issues with blending and getting most of these products to stay on my face and look half decent for the day. So that’s where I’m left, just looking for some advice on application and generally just getting the most out of natural products. As a bonus, I’d love to hear from any DIY makeup crafters in this sub if your out there!
TLDR; Organic makeup tips and tricks for application and longevity! Bonus: DIY makeup recipes and/ratings of different bases/emollients etc
Pay attention to the ingredients in each product you use and make sure they all blend together. Water and oils tend to separate unless bound together, so using an oil based concealer, I like to use an oil based moisturizer.
Practice different application techniques, using your fingers, brush, beauty blender etc... as well as all the different blending techniques, blending as you apply, or applying then blending, using different brushes etc... I’ve found that I use different techniques for various products, what works for one brands concealer is not the same for the other (I think this is pretty true for most makeup, but for me it’s especially true for organic)
Most makeup I’ve used needs to be warmed up first. Just rub it on your wrist or hand.
Skincare is most important, invest in the base products, cleansers, toners, moisturizers etc... if your skin is at its upmost best, your makeup will apply fabulously (again true for most makeup, but with organic makeup being so light coverage, I’ve found that prepping and caring for the skin is very important)
The Hertiage Store Rosewater and Glycerin face mist.
Don’t freak yourself out so much trying to make sure everything is perfectly organic etc... taking care of your skin, using appropriate to you organic skincare, washing your makeup off everyday, can go along way in keeping your skin healthy, using a good organic base/primer can help to protect your skin and then you can use products that work that may not be all organic. Just don’t use products with ingredients that are your absolute no’s.
Ok so I’m very pale and I see girl with gorgeous natural rosy lips and mine are pale pink bordering on being skin colour 😂 Does anyone know of any super natural rosy lip tints? Thank you!!
Benetint!! Get the mini size, and start with just a little bit if you're on the pale side, since it builds up. But I love it, and find it to be the most long lasting out there.
This is THE answer. Love that stuff and it's good to use on the cheeks too
what’s the texture like? i tried lovetint and it was too opaque and thick but i’m interested in the og benetint
It’s very watery and blends incredibly easy!!
I like the Burt’s Bees tinted lip balms!
Burt’s Bees Tinted Balm in Rose is such a flattering shade on a lot of different skin tones.
Same here. They’re super moisturising too! I also really like the pawpaw tinted balms - you can get them in red, pink and some other shades.
Etude House Dear Darling Water Gel Tint PK003 is my secret weapon
it's kind of a dusty, slightly mauvish-pink
gives me that naturally rosy lips look, and is wonderful as a natural blush as well
Romand! They are comfortable, and come in a variety of shades / finishes. Specifically I love Glasting Waters and Juicy Lasting Tint, but lots of people love the Velvet tints for a matte finish. If you're state side, I recommend buying on YesStyle. Tons of swatches on /r/AsianBeauty too.
Hear me out…Nivea tinted lip balm that you buy at a drugstore. I think it’s better than Burt’s bees and affordable so you can grab a few!
Came here to say this! Bought it on a whim and now I can’t leave the house without it.
