Best Places to Buy Cheap Manga

Online Marketplaces

Ebay and Mercari are frequently mentioned as good places to find cheap manga, especially if you're open to buying used copies. Many users have found great deals on these platforms, though it may require some digging to find the best prices [1:1], [2:2]. Some caution is advised when using Ebay due to the presence of bootleg copies [2:1].

Retailers and Websites

Amazon is a popular choice for purchasing manga, both new and used. Users suggest keeping an eye out for deals or using tools like CamelCamelCamel to track price drops [5:2]. Other websites like RightStuf and InStockTrades are recommended for their competitive pricing and frequent sales [5:4], [5:2]. Book Depository and Wordery are also noted for having good prices, with the added benefit of free shipping from Book Depository [5:5].

Local Options

Checking local thrift stores, used book stores, and library sales can yield unexpected finds at low prices [3:4], [5:1]. Comic shops and conventions might also offer unique opportunities to purchase manga at a discount [2:1], [5:6].

Digital Alternatives

For those who prefer digital manga, services like Viz's Shonen Jump offer subscriptions for as little as $2 a month, allowing access to a vast library of titles [4:1]. BookWalker is another platform that often has sales and offers rewards in the form of coins for future purchases [4:1].

General Tips

When searching for cheap manga, it's beneficial to be patient and persistent. Checking multiple sources and being open to buying used copies can significantly reduce costs. Additionally, setting up alerts for sales or price drops can help you snag the best deals.

I've been looking for sites that sell manga for cheap because I am dirt poor can you help a brother out.

Even cheap manga is pretty expensive, even if you get lucky and find a good deal the volumes still cost way more than they do in Japan.

If you truly can't afford to buy physical manga, just read it online for cheap. A Jump subscription is only a couple bucks or you can read anything for free on various sites.

I’ve found some good deals on Mercari. Just be prepared to do some digging to find the deals!

If you live in the US try Ebay and buy used collections, usually the volumes will be in great condition, even new with the plastic baggie still on. Facebook marketplace is your friend too, a lot of people buy whole series and sell them eventually when they move or have read it once already. Even if you don't like/want to buy used manga look in those sites for any resell deals.

For buying retail I suggest you find the website of the distributor of any given series you'd like to buy and search if they have sales regularly. Even bookstores and apartment stores put discounts in manga from time to time.

Manga prices in Amazon rarely deviate from the retail price so I wouldn't use it to buy in bulk. Check out Bookwalker EN site to buy at a "lower" retail price and you'll probably will get a discount in your first purchase.

Does anyone know where I can buy some cheap manga? I recently started collecting manga but they get so expensive it hurts my wallet 💔. I want to be able to build my collection up and NOT become poor.

Ebay and fb marketplace

Look around.

The others gave some good suggestions, but don’t forget to check locally too. I’ve gotten some amazing scores at local anime/comic conventions. Places that sell 2nd hand books/comics and library sales are great options too. I’ve gotten great deals at my local Bookmans, Zia Records, and Hastings (RIP). There’s bound to be similar shops where you live. (There were alot of Christmas sales you missed could have taken advantage of, next year maybe.)

I would be careful with EBay though, I’ve noticed there has been an increase of bootleg manga sellers on there. Try and buy from sellers based out of the US, Canada, and Japan (Australia and UK are usually fine too, but shipping is bound to be expensive). If they are based out of Malaysia, avoid! Most bootlegs come from there. Buying bootlegs may seem like a good deal, but the quality is a total gamble. Fortunately eBay also has their special program that will refund you if you do accidentally by a knockoff.

I'm talking about those used manga bundles where you can get like $2-a-volume prices. Most likely eBay, but I haven't been able to find any good deals on eBay.

This is borderline asking it for free but if ebay don't have them then try your local library or letgo, facebook marketplace, etc.

Yeah Japanese manga sells for hella cheap. The only time you find manga for $2 a volume is if its damaged to hell or of it's Naruto, and even that's a stretch.

You can check a goodwill or thrift store near you as well. Its not guarenteed youll find anything much less something youd want, but when I go to my goodwill bookstore, I tend to leave with at least 1-2.

Like u/JosephTheDreamer said those places that are which used, but if they are that cheap then a lot of the times the quality of them is really poor so be wary of that. Its very rare to find them for so cheap.

Around the holidays... watch B&N for manga/light novel sales Rightstuf has them as well. As someone else said the shonen jump app is worth every penny. Amazon has on average some really really good daily manga prices.

2 upvotes on reddit
Squill_N · 6 years ago

You could buy used from amazon, or get a library card lots of manga at libraries these days.

2 upvotes on reddit
Aleril_Antarai · 6 years ago

For only 2 dollars a month, you can read 100 chapters a day on https://www.viz.com/shonenjump from a ton of Shonen Jump series like MHA, Naruto and the such.

Bookwalker: https://global.bookwalker.jp/ often has sales and each purchase gives you coins which can be used to buy future manga/light novels.

Also I know know where you live, but try your local library. It might have way more manga than you might expect. I've read a TON of stuff from mine.

Used book stores, FB Groups/Marketplace, InStockTrades, RightStuff, /r/mangaswap, /r/comicswap, BookDepository, eBay, Amazon.

I usually find that IST and RightStuff have the cheapest, but sometimes you can find great deals in subreddits and dedicated FB groups, or get lucky on eBay. BookDepository is great for single volumes because they have free shipping and sometimes their prices beat every other place. Also keep an eye out for RightStuff deals. I also recommend setting up CamelCamelCamel price watches on more expensive stuff on Amazon.

I buy as much as I can from local comic shops or book stores, both because of frequent shipping damage and I just want to support them.

If I'm buying new online, I recently switched to Indigo from Amazon because of better packaging. If I'm buying used, I'll buy it from wherever I can find it cheapest. Usually from one of the Amazons or eBay.

I'm curious about where others get their manga at when buying online? Any special places that might be a bit under the radar to look into? I'm especially interested in buying older manga myself, so that's where most of my curiosity lies (90s and early 2000s).

I've been just looking at ebay, amazon, and halfpricebooks, but I'm not sure if there are any better places to be looking.

The only online place I've bought manga from is Amazon. There are some really good deals there (for example, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 2 Volume 1 is only $8.38 with Prime, instead of the $20 retail price), but sometime this week or next week I'll probably buy some manga off of r/mangaswap like mentioned in another comment. You can find some amazing deals there if you sort by new and look every day.

Onde posso comprar mangas baratos?

Posted by JobertZx · in r/animebrasil · 7 months ago

Ebay, Mercari, Amazon-(great for some single volumes), half price books, r/mangaswap , and Facebook Marketplace.

I personally go with the used section on Amazon. Haven't received a bad condition one yet even with most of the volumes I've gotten being ex-Library books and only had one volume that really needed a heavy cleaning. I almost prefer the library ones because it makes it feel like a well-loved thing that a lot of other people got to experience before it found its home in my personal library.

I mostly get my manga from cdjapan, everything is great. They have material that you can't find elsewhere or are just hard-to-find. Packaging is great, too. Plus they have a point reward system based on the amount you spend so you get discounts on future purchases. They also do a great job with promoting collectibles and announcing offers.

AI Answer

🤖

best places to buy cheap manga

Here are some key considerations for finding cheap manga:

  1. Online Retailers: Websites like Amazon, Right Stuf Anime, and Book Depository often have competitive prices and frequent sales. Check for discounts on bulk purchases or special promotions.

  2. Digital Manga Platforms: Services like ComiXology, VIZ Media's Shonen Jump, and Crunchyroll Manga offer digital versions at lower prices, sometimes with subscription options for unlimited access.

  3. Used Bookstores: Local used bookstores or chains like Half Price Books can have a great selection of second-hand manga at reduced prices.

  4. Library Sales: Many libraries sell used books, including manga, at very low prices. It's worth checking your local library's sale events.

  5. Manga Swap Groups: Look for online communities or social media groups where fans buy, sell, or trade manga. This can be a cost-effective way to expand your collection.

  6. Sales Events: Keep an eye out for seasonal sales, Black Friday deals, or special events like Free Comic Book Day, where you can find manga at discounted prices.

Recommendation: For the best overall value, consider using digital platforms like VIZ Media's Shonen Jump, which offers a subscription for access to a vast library of manga for a low monthly fee. This way, you can read many titles without the upfront cost of physical volumes.
