TL;DR When selecting a projector for watching movies, consider factors such as image quality, brightness, resolution, and connectivity options. Popular choices often include brands like Epson, Optoma, and BenQ, known for their high-quality home theater projectors.
Image Quality and Resolution
For an immersive movie-watching experience, prioritize projectors with high resolution and excellent image quality. Look for projectors that offer at least 1080p Full HD resolution, though 4K projectors are becoming increasingly popular and affordable. High dynamic range (HDR) support can also enhance the viewing experience by providing better contrast and color accuracy.
Brightness and Contrast Ratio
The brightness of a projector, measured in lumens, is crucial, especially if you plan to use it in a room with ambient light. A projector with 2,000 to 3,000 lumens is typically sufficient for most home environments. Additionally, a higher contrast ratio will ensure deeper blacks and more vibrant colors, enhancing the overall picture quality.
Connectivity Options
Ensure the projector has multiple connectivity options to accommodate different devices. HDMI ports are essential for connecting Blu-ray players, gaming consoles, and streaming devices. Some projectors also offer wireless connectivity features, allowing you to stream content directly from your smartphone or tablet.
Sound System Integration
While some projectors come with built-in speakers, they often lack the audio quality needed for a cinematic experience. Consider pairing your projector with a good sound system or soundbar to enhance the audio quality. As one user noted, having a good sound system cranked loud can significantly improve the movie-watching experience [1:5].
Popular Brands and Models
Brands like Epson, Optoma, and BenQ are frequently recommended for their reliable performance and quality. These brands offer a range of models catering to different needs and budgets, making them popular choices among movie enthusiasts. While specific models were not mentioned in the discussions, these brands are known for producing some of the best home theater projectors on the market.

The second label might be the vendors label.
Yves and Marilyn have an affair, Arthur doesn't know, Simone knows.
He was too busy off fucking Inge to notice.
Ok what are the cartoon thought bubbles saying?
You can almost choke on the cigarette smoke.
How does a playwright score Marilyn Monroe?
She desperately wanted a family and to be part of his. She was besotted with him for a long time. Terrible man to have a child with in the end so she lucked out there.
In a world where a guy like Jesse James can score Sandra Bullock, anything is possible. When I was a kid, I often daydreamed about being a successful and well respected race driver and car builder, in a relationship with Sally Field or Nicolette Larson.
Repost due to not enough body text in first post there...
Not looking for anything particularly scary but enjoy a good jump scare. I'm newer to attempting to enjoy horror and don't want to "scare"myself away from the genre. I enjoy films like: The Night Eats the World, Blade, Silence of the Lambs, John Carpenter's They Live, Shaun of the Dead, Zombieland. Ideally nothing longer than 2½ hours but it's not a deal breaker.
So far I've got...
Shutter Island
From Dusk Till Dawn
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Scream (1996)
If you liked Zombieland and Shaun of the Dead try Tucker & Dale vs. Evil
Thanks, I have it on my streaming list.
And Cabin in the Woods
Definitely check out Scouts Guide to a Zombie Apocalypse and Dance of the Dead both great fun.
A limited series but The Haunting of Hill House has some good character development and one of the best jump scares I’ve ever experienced.
Midnight Mass is also a limited series but really good
Abigail (2024)
The Lost Boys (1987)
What We Do in the Shadows (2014)
Warm Bodies (2013)
The Craft, The Witches of Eastwick
I found an app and I genuinely think is the best free way to watch movies & TV shows. It combines both Stremio-like add-ons and CloudStream-like plugins (most Stremio add-ons work here; torrent add-ons planned). Highly recommend trying it and sharing honest feedback.
✨ Highlights:-
🧩 Supports both plugins & add-ons (Stremio add-ons mostly work — torrent add-ons coming)
🎯 Trakt integration for scrobbling & library sync
🔤 Subtitles customization
🏠 Lots of homescreen customization
⭐ Hero / Featured section (highlights/spotlights)
🌐 HTTP stream support
📊 Improved rating system (when using MDBList API)
🤖 Built-in AI assistant — ask questions about content (when using the OpenRouter API)
🛠 Planned:-
TV release
Catalogue grouping
Torrent streaming
And more of your popular requests
🐞 Current limitations:-
Early development = bugs & instability (please report anything you find)
Some features still incomplete (torrent add-ons not available yet)
🙏 How you can help:-
Test features, hunt bugs, and send honest feedback (and in return we'll priorities community's most requested feature or any feature that is considered a good suggestion)
📥 How to Get the App:-
💻 GitHub: https://github.com/tapframe/NuvioStreaming
💬 Discord: After installing → Settings → scroll down → Join Discord (for suggestions & bug reports)
❗Note:-
--> It may seem like I’m the developer of this app, but I’m not. I’m just working on it together with the actual developer
--> I would like to clarify that most stremio add-ons will work in this application but none of the cloudstream repos will work here (you have to use our own repos in the app)
www.sudamericatv.com Try it!
Please consider adding "save to device"
Sorry what is that?
Allow us to download movies/shows so that we can watch when we are offline
After installation the app freezes every 5 seconds, I have to turn it off and open it to be able to walk around in it, and it refreezes etc.
I will try again later to see if one of your updates has fixed this bug. THANKS
Interesting yes some users are facing this issue please make sure to try again later (when there's a new update) and let me know if you still face the same issue
No worries, it will be done. Thank you so much.
Not ready to be promoted
Why not? I mean I did mention that users can expect bugs and besides that we do need more users to ensure that the app is as optimized as possible
RemindMe! One week
Lol hopefully if I remember by then

This is a spam ad by AWOL trying to sell their crap projectors. There has been a lot of these recently.
DO NOT buy their crap
I smelt fishiness the moment I saw "short throw" mentioned in the headline as if that had anything to do with experience quality rather than just ease of installation. :D SEO optimization much?
I don’t even own an AWOL, but I did preorder a Valerion Max and I’ve been sharing my experience in a little series here. So what now? anyone who posts about either brand automatically gets labeled as marketing? Or maybe you’re just another hired shill yourself?
Thanks, it seemed off. But will the big question be answered... does anyone in r/projectors, watch movies on projectors?
The problem with short throw projectors is that the screen is usually so "small" due to the need of expensive UST specific screens. This looks about the same as a 100" TV, which is a similar price point and will provide a better picture.
TVs have gotten so big and cheap, if you are not going 130"+, do not bother. I suspect this number will keep going up.
The streaming quality of the Marvel movies (Guardians and Avengers especially) movies on Disney are leagues above the streaming quality of anything else on other services I've seen so far. Your setup looks great.
Have you used Real Debrid?
lol haven’t used that in like ten years, just scrapes ddl links from premium providers.
I haven't heard of it. Do you mind telling me more?
Great job. Now consider investing in a 4k bluray player and some discs. you wont regret it i promise
are short throw the way now? i have epson 5050ub and have been looking around for an upgrade
Im looking for a well rounded projector for a mix of movies, video games, and an occasional out door movie. my budget is about 700 but flexible if the difference is that great for a few extra bucks. Any advice would be super appreciated. I am a US buyer.
At around the $700 mark and because you have an occasional outdoor movie I really like my XGIMI Halo+ New. I I usually use it as my home projector but as it's so portable and battery powered it can pack up and go really easy too. Native Netflix too.
How large is the room op?
How large is the area outside?
What size screen are you going to use inside? Screen size outside?
Placement inside the room?
My room is a cube 9.5 ft by 9.5 ft projecting from one wall to the other that wall is pretty much open
Since your room is 9.5ft in length. Where are you going to place the projector in the room?
Check out JMGO N1S 4K as well. Best 4K triple laser projector under $1000. More info @ https://youtu.be/aXn7TFaisds
I’m looking to buy a projector for a 120 inch screen in my living room. My place has lots of windows and is bright even with blinds so I’d like something with high lumens (2700+) and a high contrast. I’d prefer 4k as well.
I plan to use a separate speaker and a Roku plug in. I plan to use this really just for watching tv and movies, not gaming or conference calls or anything. Ideally, I’d love to able to move this between rooms or bring on trips as well.
I’m getting very overwhelmed in my search and I’m struggling to figure out if some higher price points are worth how I’m planning to use it. I welcome all advice and/or recommendations please!!!!!
High contrast and lots of windows and is bright is just not happening.
First of all you need to address the room. You need blackout shades at a minimum on the windows to get a high contrast picture.
Honestly you may be better off getting a 100”+ TV.
What is your budget?
Agreed. Projectors just don't work in bright places. Enormous TV is the way to go if you can afford it
Hi. What speakers or home theater system would you be using with the projector? I have a room very similar with a lot of windows. Around 6pm the projector looks very good, before that there is a lot of light too
Hi! I’m looking for a 4K projector around $1200 (13,000 SEK), mainly for movies and some light gaming. I can darken the room quite well, but I’d still prefer something bright with great image quality for cinematic use.
The wall where I’ll mount the screen is 2.35 meters wide and 2.15 meters high. I’m planning to go with a 100” screen, and I’ll be sitting about 2.65 meters (8.7 feet) from it.
I prioritize image quality and movie experience over smart features. Any recommendations?
Valerion don’t go anywhere else. For the money best projectors out there
I currently have an denon projector bought around 13 years ago. But it’s dead, like even after servicing twice.
It’s been so long i totally lost my knowledge on projectors. And the evolution since then has been crazy.
I need suggestions for which is the best right now in market. I’ve seen few in google and their reviews, but it’s still better hearing it from someone here!
Really need to set a budget as brand name units go from $500 to tens of thousands of dollars.
budget ain’t much of a problem i just wanna put something thats worth the money
Arguably the best JVC DLA-NZ800 https://www.jvc.com/usa/projectors/procision/dla-nz800/
thanks! lll have a look on it
best projector for watching movies
Key Considerations for Choosing a Movie Projector:
Resolution: Aim for at least 1080p (Full HD) resolution for clear and detailed images. For a more cinematic experience, consider 4K projectors.
Brightness: Look for a projector with a brightness of at least 2,500 lumens for a well-lit room. If you plan to use it in a darker environment, you can go lower.
Contrast Ratio: A higher contrast ratio (at least 10,000:1) will provide deeper blacks and more vibrant colors, enhancing the viewing experience.
Throw Distance: Consider the throw distance based on your room size. Short-throw projectors can project large images from a short distance, while long-throw projectors require more space.
Connectivity: Ensure the projector has multiple input options (HDMI, USB, etc.) for connecting to various devices like Blu-ray players, streaming devices, or gaming consoles.
Sound Quality: Built-in speakers are convenient, but for the best experience, consider using external speakers or a sound system.
Recommendations:
Epson Home Cinema 2150: This 1080p projector offers excellent brightness (2,500 lumens), great color accuracy, and a good contrast ratio. It's versatile for both movies and gaming.
BenQ HT2050A: A highly-rated 1080p projector with a low input lag, making it great for gaming as well. It has a good contrast ratio and decent brightness.
Anker Nebula Capsule: If you're looking for portability, this compact projector offers 720p resolution and is great for casual movie watching on the go. It has built-in Android for streaming.
Sony VPL-VW295ES: For a premium option, this 4K projector delivers stunning image quality and is ideal for a dedicated home theater setup.
Takeaway: Choose a projector that fits your specific needs regarding space, budget, and viewing preferences. Prioritize resolution and brightness for the best movie-watching experience.
