What Redditors are Saying

Best Snowboard Bindings

TL;DR

  • Burton Cartels are widely praised for their versatility and reliability.
  • Union bindings, particularly the Force and Atlas models, are popular among aggressive riders.
  • Rome Katana and Ride A-8s are recommended for specific riding styles.

Burton Bindings

Burton bindings, especially the Cartels, are frequently mentioned as top choices. They are known for their quality and have been a favorite for many years [1:3][2:1][5:1]. The Cartel X is an upgrade offering more stiffness, suitable for those who prefer a more responsive ride [4:6]. Burton Malavitas are also noted for their comfort and flexibility, making them a good choice for freestyle riding [3:5].

Union Bindings

Union bindings are highly regarded, with models like the Force and Atlas being popular among riders who enjoy aggressive and all-mountain riding [3:1][5:6]. The Union Falcors are noted for blending freestyle capabilities with charging responsiveness [3:2]. Riders appreciate the durability and performance of Union bindings, though some mention issues with longevity [5:4].

Rome and Ride Bindings

Rome Katana bindings are favored for their comfort and adaptability to different riding styles [2:2]. Ride A-8s are recommended for aggressive riders looking for stiff bindings that can handle high-speed carving and glades [1:1]. The new line of Ride bindings has received positive feedback for their versatility [1:2].

Specialty Bindings

For those interested in unique binding systems, Nidecker's Supermatics offer a strap system that accommodates various boots while enhancing board engagement [4:2]. NOW bindings, designed for Jones snowboards, utilize skate tech to improve board feel and reduce foot pain [5:9][5:11].

Considerations Beyond the Discussions

When choosing bindings, consider your riding style and preferences. Freestyle riders may prefer softer bindings for flexibility, while all-mountain and aggressive riders might opt for stiffer bindings for better control and responsiveness. Additionally, ensure compatibility with your snowboard's mounting system, such as Burton's EST or channel systems.

Definitely my go to bindings for real aggressive riding.

A-8s are a great binding! What board are you riding them on? i just purchased the C-8's in time for nutty jersey pow day and have the on my pow board. (Chamonix Chemin 149) It was between the A-8s and C-8s. The deciding factors was simply the sale discount on the C-8s and they were in my local shop as oppose to ordering the A-8s on line. I love the flexibility of riding style you can cater the binding too. I really like the new line of bindings they re Ride manufactured for this season!

Have you tried the cartel x or just the regular cartels? If you’ve tried the cartel x, how do you like them compared to the malavitas.

I have not tried cartel x, but they just appear to be upgraded cartels. Cartels are nice and I wouldnt mind riding em, but I don't really have a need/desire for the extra stiffness.

Nice, I think I saw that post you made with a pic of your hardboots, it was interesting reading the articles about the history of snowboarding boots since I came from skiing as a kid.

I have a couple sets of the NX2-GT's one Hybrid and one Fusion and I really like them. I dunno if that rubber front toe webbing strap on the hybrid will last that long so the Fusions without it may last longer

TBH I feel like if I take that hybrid out into nasty -30 weather that webbing is likely to snapped in places once it gets super cold and starts to get brittle but who knows.

Bindings what should I look at

Posted by snobrder540 · in r/snowboarding · 6 days ago

Hi and thanks for your feedback.

I'm looking for a new set of bindings and I'm looking for recommendations. I'm a very aggressive rider, boarding for 22 years, spending a lot of time hauling ass through glades. I charge down groomers and find myself in the park and back bowls regularly as well. I ride the whole mountain, love powder, and trick off little jumps everywhere. I spend almost as much time riding switch as regular and edge control is important.

I have been riding the Burton Malvita reflex bindings for the last 3 or 4 years I loved them but they are tired so time for something new. I've ridden a couple sets of Burton Cartel bindings but also had a set of the high end Flow bindings that were ok.

I'm looking for a set of higher end bindings and expect that they can have the highback rotated to align with the edge of the board. Also want a flat footbed and straps that work well. All of my boards use the standard baseplate.

Let's hear your recommendations. Thanks!

As someone who owns a LOT of bindings, and rides similar to how you do, the new (as of last year) Union Falcors are by far the best binding for blending freestyle and charging. They are super responsive and yet cushiony as hell to land on. Board feel and pop is great too.

Bindings i own:

Old falcors: less playful than the new ones, not as much shock absorption. Rails carves the same, but new ones seem to have more flex laterally for tweaks.

Union atlas: feels dead compared to falcor.

Union Strata: probably too soft for your charging

Union Ultra: same cushion as the new falcors, but definitely too soft for your style

Burton malavita: haven’t ridden these in years but I ditched them for the old falcors, which were more responsive.

I ride 15/-15 and can get the high backs aligned perfectly.

Assuming based on your description you ride a mid-stiff board?

I've been researching bindings for the past two years and this is kind of what i've gathered lol I can tell you that Burton Cartel Xs are the safest bet as you can be anywhere in the world on a mountain and find some parts for it. I've ridden these for a while and I've always enjoyed them. Then Union Atlas and Stratas get lots of love. Some people say it has issues with longevity. I wouldn't know. Now and Jones have a very interesting base of fans. It seems once you go skatetech thats it, you are a convert and nothing ever feels the same again. I myself purchased Mercury Jones bindings literally last night on Evo for my 2022 Jones MT. I had the 2021 MT but gave it to my cousin for the new graphic since I'm not a fan of the red and yellow. Lastly, theres the Rome Katanas. I've heard that these are the absolute best in terms of adjust ability. I was deciding between Katanas and NOW/Jones but in the end since I have a Jones board I thought going with Jones bindings seemed like the perfect fit especially since Jones and Now are the same tech but Jones just uses better straps from my understanding.

Switch on the Orca is more for butter style points in powder or groomers, rather than actual switch riding due to the high volume nose and set back stance. It’s fairly directional for a reason though, crushes powder and carves trenches!! Love my orca!

Binding recommendations

Posted by Qiusp · in r/snowboarding · 5 months ago

I have three boards, each for a different kind of riding. The left is for cruising the resort, middle is for carving, and right is for park. The only pair of bindings I have are the ride C-6’s and they just broke on me today. So I thought I’d capitalize on the end of season sales and buy 2 pairs. Looking to get one pair to share between the resort cruiser and the carving board, and another pair for park.

Anybody have any recommendations? (Anything but Ride bindings, severely underwhelmed with their performance this season)

2026 Binding Discussion

Posted by Amazing-Location6299 · in r/snowboarding · 2 months ago

I know a lot of people look at bindings as just what holds you to your board, but what bindings have you found exceptional? I've demo'd a lot of boards and bindings, I've found the following to be my most enjoyable, but looking to source some thoughts.

For some context, I'm a warranties manager at a locally owned snowboard shop. I have had far too many discussions about people breaking their gear and blaming the manufacturing.

I hate any of these gimmick bindings. Step ons, supermatics, and flow's are all pretty bad in my opinion.

I wear a 9 Vans Infuse and only ride medium bindings.

Elephant in the room is FASE bindings. I tried the ThirtyTwo T32M bindings but didn't get the opportunity to try any others. First day of the demo I got a little annoyed trying to step into them, but by the second day I got used to it and was thoroughly impressed. It's a fast(er) entry without compromising the anatomy of a binding. They don't have an outrageous price tag, the engineering philosophy is well executed, you don't even need a special boot, and they just feel like good bindings. A tad bulky, but not enough to ruin your day.

Fix Block 5 - Fix fully redesigned their bindings and the new ones are comfy, supportive, responsive, and don't weigh a lot either. Also a Canadian company so extremely cost effective.

K2 Bond - I've ridden these since they came out, they're more structurally secure than most Union bindings. Feel kind of like the old Forces but without the worry of breaking your board. Most of my homies ride them too and are overall stoked.

K2 Program - Also ridden these since they came out. The "stiffest" offering from K2. I'll keep it very simple - these are a Union Atlas killer. They cost less, perform better, and have better straps and board feel.

Ride Drone and Specter - Wildly well reviewed - aluminum chassis however so it may scare the park kids away.

Bent Metal - Nothing changed, always been good, always gonna be good.

Salomon Hologram - Very popular choice for park kids, a great price point for what it is. They're comfy and forgiving but I just found their response to be a little slow. When I was going faster they didn't give me any extra potency.

Arbor bindings - Improving a little bit every year. The Hemlock isn't bad, just way too soft. The Cypress is okay, the straps are the problem. They just change material instead of changing the design (which is the problem)

Share your thoughts! What gear are you hyped on for next year?

Other day in a shop had a Union Force in one hand, weighed right at 2lbs (900g), Nidecker Supermatic in the other hand, weighed right about 97lbs (1,712,000,000g).

My Union Force M are about 2.4 lbs and are the heaviest bindings I own (also have Ultra and Strata, both ~2lb). The Force ride nice but are noticeably heavier on the chair lift and I have old knees / ligaments so I don’t like the extra weight. So I’ve only used them twice. Always Ultra now.

For the longest time I used Flow’s rear-entry system. I GET IT, not the best. I never had issues with them. Before I get flamed on here though let me explain my purpose; 1 - family/friends all skiers so it allowed quick entry off the lift. 2 - for what I was doing on the mountain it worked.

Last year decided I wanted to push myself more and be better on the mountain so I went with Union. Going back to traditional bindings was the best decision I made. The connection to the board, response, etc all made it worth it.

Not sure I will use any other brand other than Union.

3 upvotes on reddit
Amazing-Location6299 · OP · 2 months ago

Union's are awesome but don't close yourself off to trying anything new! So many companies make such good bindings that even surpass Union at a lower price point. I haven't owned a set of Unions since 2023 and every time I try a set again I think "meh, not insane but still pretty good". Stratas are very dank though

2 upvotes on reddit

Better, it's still not perfect but definitely easier. As long as your size is set right, you can get your foot in and out pretty comfortably while moving. That said, I hate sitting down to get my bindings on. It makes me feel like a beginner. I never had to sit working with the FASE bindings, but you do need to be weary of stepping on your strap.

Burton Cartel. A do everything anytime binding. Timeless like the Forces but more give to go freestyle.

Strata’s are the best binding I’ve ever personally rode. +1

I rode Stratas all season this year. Mostly rode them on my huck knife but I also took out my outer space living with them a few times. Stratas and an OSL like OP has are a very solid pairing, can't recommend em enough

Union force is always a safe bet. Works for everything, easy to adjust. Their gen 3 is releasing this fall, might want to check those out if you have the patience.

The atlas is a quite rigid and responsive binding, might be a bit much for that board.

Rome/bataleon also makes decent bindings, lots of adjustability.

Great board btw, perfect for someone getting into snowboarding.

I ride tm2 thirtytwos, love them. A bit stiff, but also tweakable. Vans also makes good boots, same with burton. As many will point out it is wise to try the boots on before buying, as many believe the best boot is the one that fits your foot.

Union bindings are great, that would be my recommendation as well.

Ultras are advertised as such, but they are honestly a great all mountain bindings that is extremely comfortable and plenty responsive enough for your new board. I bought both Atlas and Ultra this year, and I ride the Ultras on basically every board that’s below a 8/10 stiffness. I only bust the Atlas out for laying down deep carves, riding super steep stuff (this is where the adjustable high back is more needed,) or on pow days with my big stiff board.

Came to second this. I ride an Outerspace Living and I just got the Ultras this past season. I would recommend 100%. It’s the most fun for a setup I’ve ever had.

Also, whether or not you get Ultras, I can’t recommend Union enough. I’ve ridden I think 5 pairs of them now and they are the best bindings out there in my opinion. With the Ultras this last season I lost a piece (100% my fault). I emailed their customer service and I had a response the next day with the part arriving a few days after that for free along with some stickers and patches. I’ll never buy a different brand of bindings for as long as I ride.

I got a pair of Now bindings and I'll never go back to a different brand. The skate-tech made a noticeable difference in leg/foot fatigue and I feel like it takes less weight transfer to get the same amount of edge as other bindings. Worth checking them out as they are the only brand that's really doing something unique and changing the way bindings actually work.

I have the same bindings with a 2021 outerspace living. This combo is butter 🧈

Yes, as u/billionaireXtinction stated, the Union Ultra's flex will match the Outerspace Living board nicely. The new Ultras have Unions newest technology and everyone is raving about how awesome of a binding they are.

side note: I am a Capita and Union fan.

If you want something to put a little more power into your board, then the new Union Forces (2024) are a complete redesign of the Union Force binding. I heard Angry snowboarder comment on a live stream that they were way better than the previous force. The Atlas will be to strong for that board IMO, also i am assuming you are still an intermediate rider.

I have the ultras on one of my boards and I love them. They're comfortable all day and very responsive. The flex in the cushion isn't noticeable to me. If you were on a powder board or something really big, I wouldn't recommend them because the mini disc is too small of a footprint and you put a lot of stress on your board mounts, but to me an outerspace living + ultras is the perfect set up

I'm an absolute Union stan. I've only purchased Unions since the first set of Force bindings I bought 8 or 9 years ago. The only type of Union binding I ever bought that I didn't like was the Atlas. It seemed waaay to stiff in a bad way and it was uncomfortable for some reason the way it tightened around my boot. That was like 4 or 5 years ago, so maybe it's changed. But you can't go wrong with Force, Ultra, or used Contact Pro's (they are Ultra now). I also have the falcors on my Orca, but I don't think you'd want those on an Outer Space Living.

Summarize

What bindings do I get?

Posted by Huge_Wish3402 · in r/snowboardingnoobs · 5 months ago

I'm finally getting my own set up this year and I've been so focused on the board I've completely forgotten about my bindings and boots. I've settled on the Salomon Huck Knife for my board so maybe that will provide insight into my riding. Mainly all mountain with park/trees sprinkled in there. I've also started to learn flat ground tricks but whatever.

What bindings do you all recommend. I've mainly been dealing with them cheap burton ones with the huge straps so I think anything will be a step up. I want something that will last for years on end though, upwards of 5-7 years.

Boots I know I should go to a shop for, but I'm not sure if theres anything special about them? Or are they just all the same.

TIA!!

Boots are certainly not all the same because our feet aren’t and because like the rest of the gear they have their own features. With that said, first and foremost buy the boots that fit the best, don’t rush the purchase and avoid getting pressured in buying something if you are not sure. If they are not comfortable in the shop they won’t get better even if you heat mould them (to a degree)

For the bindings I’d probably go for the Union Str, Strata or Flite depending by your budget.

Get the new fase bindings. They work like step ins but majorly improve on the things other companies did shitty. They partnered with I think 4 different brands so you can choose based on those I believe it’s nidecker jones thirty two and batalleon. You can use any boots with them and they don’t put a bunch of stress on your ankles on the lift. They’re also reasonably priced in comparison to step ons and clews.

Not hugely different , but of course lower end models will have less features and may not last as long.

Another consideration is the fit to your future/current boots. When I used to work at a store I would put the customer boot if available into a display binding. Sometimes if they are buying a full set I will let them try a demo setup with one binding on left and a different one on the right. It’s amazing the difference in feel and performance between bindings.

Otherwise people generally buy based on looks and come back next year wanting a different pair!

Boots are not all the same. I fact they are the most important part of your whole set up, if you feet hurt anfove around in the boot you tend to have a poor time sniwboarding. Definitely go to a reputable shop and try on lots of boots with someone who knows what they are talking about.

Boots vary in fit by width, instep height, ankle hold, flex. If you buy the wrong boot you can end up with pain, loss of control, heel lift etc. Take your time buying boots and spend the money to buy the right boot.

As far as binding so there's so many good options. If you got a mid range or above binding from any major brand they will last for years.

Union Nitro Salomon Flux K2 Ride All have great options.

Get boots first though so when you buy bindings you can sit the boot in the binding and ensure it's a good fit and the correct size.

Listen to him OP, I tried around 30 pairs of boots in 10 different shops before buying a pair.

Key Considerations for Choosing Snowboard Bindings

  1. Flex:

    • Soft Flex: Ideal for beginners and park riders, offering more forgiveness and easier maneuverability.
    • Medium Flex: Good for all-mountain riding, balancing comfort and responsiveness.
    • Stiff Flex: Best for advanced riders and those who prefer aggressive riding styles, providing maximum control and support.
  2. Compatibility:

    • Ensure the bindings are compatible with your snowboard's mounting system (e.g., 4x4, 2x4, or channel systems).
  3. Strap Type:

    • Traditional Straps: Offer a secure fit and are adjustable.
    • Rear-Entry Bindings: Allow for quick entry and exit, great for convenience.
    • Step-On Bindings: Provide a hassle-free experience by allowing you to step directly into the binding.
  4. Cushioning and Comfort:

    • Look for bindings with good padding and cushioning in the footbed and straps to enhance comfort during long rides.
  5. Adjustability:

    • Features like tool-less adjustments for strap length and highback rotation can help customize the fit for better performance.

Recommendations:

  • Burton Cartel: A versatile choice with medium flex, suitable for all-mountain riding. Known for its comfort and durability, it features a responsive highback and cushioned footbed.

  • Union Force: Offers a great balance of performance and comfort with a medium flex. It's durable and suitable for various riding styles, making it a solid all-around option.

  • Ride EX: A budget-friendly option that doesn’t compromise on quality. It has a soft flex, making it great for beginners and casual riders.

Choosing the right bindings depends on your riding style and preferences, so consider trying them on with your snowboard boots to ensure a good fit before purchasing.
