TL;DR
Comfort and Walking Support
Comfort is a top priority when selecting travel shoes, especially for long days of walking. Asics GT2000s and Kayano's are highly recommended for their comfort and support during extensive walking [3:3]
[3:6]. New Balance 530 also received praise for its reliability on long walks
[3:2]. Merrell shoes are another option mentioned for good walking support
[3:4].
Water Resistance and Versatility
For those expecting rainy weather or needing versatile shoes, Blundstone boots offer comfort and lightweight water resistance [2:3]. Hoka Transport GTX shoes are slip-resistant and waterproof, making them suitable for various conditions
[2:2]. Norda 001 shoes use Dyneema fiber for water resistance and comfort, although they may run small
[2:5]
[2:8].
Durability
Scarpa shoes are highlighted for their durability and almost waterproof nature. They are described as indestructible and have lasted over a decade for some users [3:5]
[3:7]. These Italian-made shoes are expensive but considered a worthwhile investment for their longevity.
Style and Ease of Use
When considering style and ease of use, Adidas Ultraboost and Johnston Murphy XC4 were noted for their stylish appearance and comfort [4:2]. Allbirds were mentioned for their versatility and comfort, although individual experiences may vary
[5:1].
Additional Recommendations
Other brands like Tevas and Lems Boulder Boot were suggested for specific weather conditions or personal preferences [4:6]
[4:2]. Trail runners are often favored for their ability to handle both city exploring and occasional hikes
[5:2].
Sneaker shoes it’s super comfortable
Travel for work, mostly internationally. (from the US) 20-35 hours of travel time, +/-15k steps. Looking for recommendations and experience on different types of shoes?
Order of importance
hi I’m in need for some new travel shoes any recommendations will be helpful
so I'm going to be going to Ireland and Canada - therefore expecting some rainy weather and then hot summer, any mens shoe recommendations that are comfortable as Im probably going to be walking in them all day and still is somewhat water-resistant and breathable?
Hoka transport GTX!!! They're slip on, slip resistant, and waterproof!!! I work 12hr days on my feet and love them!
Water resistance and breathable are really two different things, and they don’t normally come in same shoe. For me, I normally wear my Norda 001 (Dyneema fiber) for water resistance, it is super lightweight and comfortable.
When I mean water resistant I mean as in if I walk out in rain to get to somewhere probably a bus or indoors I really don't want my feat wet. I'm not stepping In a puddle or anything lol Thanks for the rec will check it out
In that case, Blundstone boot is good option, super comfortable and lightweight, give you more water resistance.
How do you like your Norda’s and how do they actually fit? Debating grabbing a pair, but am a 14 in standard US size and thinking they’ll be small.
I like it but I feel it is overpriced (although I grab it from around 50% off sale). For the fitting, they run small, so I size 1/2 up and fit well. Based on the official website, I believe they recommend to order 1/2 - 1 size up.
Mine have all ran about 1/2 size too large. Normally I’m a 11, in Norda I’m almost always a 10.5

We have no budget. We have no use case. We don't know if you are a man, woman or attack helicopter. We don't know your current location so we might recommend a local source.

What do you consider to be "travel shoes"?
Tbh anything goes
Hey people! What shoes do you reco to use when you go out for long walks or travel? Currently I use either crocs or a nike airmax since they are comfortable to use for me but I’m curious to what other footwear brands are the best.
Thanks!
My new balance 530 never failed me even if I go for long walks during travel.
I take Asics.
Either Kayano's or GT2000's.
They are comfortable and good to walk in for many km.
Second this! I switched to Asics GT2000s a couple years back after my feet were killing me from all-day touristy walks in Europe. They seriously made all the difference, super comfy and supportive, especially if you’re doing 20k+ steps a day.
thanks mate! ill look into these
Merrell. ASICS have good walking shoes. New Balance are good.
If you want a pair of indestructible walking shoes that's light and almost waterproof, Scarpa. Italian, expensive but 12 years oj still eff all wear. Black magic I tell you.
Still got some 18 year old scarpas. Bulletproof.
I tend to favour lightweight trail shoes because they can do double-duty in town or if you head-out into nature. I usually bring a pair of Birks (e.g. Arizonas) or something sportier like Chaco’s, depending on what I plan on doing.
Considering comfort for walking all day, style and durability.
I think it depends on weather. For me if it’s raining or snowing or cold, I want boots. If it’s hot I want sandals or light sneakers.
Favorite boot: Lems Boulder Boot, waterproof. Favorite shoe: Adidas Ultraboost or Johnston Murphy XC4
Hoka
I have heard people in the row in front of me on a flight talking about Hokas. Happy 🎂 day
Running shoes from Asics.
I stick to runners mainly
Tevas!
What’s the community’s take on the best shoes for travel that can handle lots of walking, occasional hikes, and still look decent for city exploring? Are there any truly versatile options that pack well and don’t hurt your feet after 10k+ steps a day?
Still hunting for the perfect pair, but my current go-to is a lightweight pair of trail runners
For me it's Allbirds but ymmv.
Does anyone have a versatile shoe they LOVE for business travel? I love my loafers but they don’t hold up well in rain. Trying to travel with as LITTLE as possible, so would love to hear what you use, as I am new to the travel worker life. Thanks!
For non-summer trips, I toss my slip ons or sneakers in my bag and travel in Chelsea boots. My work attire is on the more casual side so my day to day work shoes are all black sneakers.
The ones I love don't hold up in rain all that well either but I swear by dr scholls madison slip ons. I've walked 10+ miles in a day, consecutively, with them. Done 6+ hour days working retail in them. And they're great for travel because of the easy on/off.
I wear short booties when I travel for work. They're both comfortable for longer walk and looks sleek for work. It is also acceptable in my work to wear sneakers and tennis shoes for work too so I sometimes wear monochrome On Cloud or Vans. Especially if you're going to do a lot of walking, something that is comfortable is the most important.
hi all! i've been on the look for the "perfect" travel shoes, especially for the fall/spring. during the winter i basically live in my llbean chelsea boots, so i'm not looking for something that needs to stand up to a ton of snow, but definitely want a shoe that's not going to fall apart in rain.
my ideal shoe would be a "smart" sneaker, something that i could wear in a city without it looking like i'm about to head to the gym, but also are comfortable for walking decent distances. i really like the look of allbirds, but i'm not sure how good they actually are in rain and for walking longer distances!
thanks!!
Ecco Soft 7 sneaker boots! So comfy, breathable, and look good with shorts, jeans, dress pants, and skirts!
Love Ecco! The shoes I have are really comfortable.
They’ve never let me down!
>Ecco Soft 7
Ooh I really like the look of the all-black ones. How good are they for walking long distances? Do you think they would hold up for a hike? Are they completely waterproof?
I'm looking at these, in case these aren't the boots you meant.
I have these these
They are fabulously comfortable. As far as your other two questions… I hike in whatever is on my feet because I have no common sense, but these have great grip so I think you’d be fine for moderate hikes. I live in a dry area so I can’t speak to waterproofing, but I suspect yours will be better than mine because the ones in your link look like they are a bit higher.
I’m going to take mine to Seattle in a couple weeks so I can report back how they perform if that’s helpful! They are my ride or dies so I’m hopeful they work in a rainy climate!
I once had a pair of all birds as work shoes. Their sole is very cushy, but I found it didn't offer very much support. I often had back pain at the end of the day from being on my feet.
I believe I have the vegan ones and they were just straight up fabric, so not really good in wet conditions
Same here! I just got a pair of Allbirds for a recent trip to Austria and found that they left me really tired out with aching feet. I‘ve since switched to shoes by the brand on and love them.
What style did you have? The Runners for me don't have enough support for walking all day, but the Dashers do.
That said they seem to have changed their sizing and no longer fit my feet right (6.5 is too short and 7 is too big all over).
I like Cole Haan”s Oxford sneakers and Birkenstock’s Low Bend leather sneakers. Both are comfy, but attractive.

I love the comfort in the zero grand. I often wear men’s clothes and shoes but this shoes are a more pointy than I’d like; super comfortable except I feel they look odd when a woman wears them.
In warm climates, chacos have brought me everywhere I’ve wanted to go!
Have a look at Clarks. Had great luck with them on a three week summer trip and have worn them at home too.
I’m planning a solo trip to London and Paris in late spring. my whole life, for travel, I’ve always worn comfortable but hideous shoes (like those Keen sandals with the massive toe bumpers). this will be my first solo trip, and also my first big trip as an adult, so it’s important to me that I’m dressed well and feel good about myself. I’ve been looking at updated mary jane style shoes, I’m absolutely obsessed with the Doc Martens Polleys, but they only come in whole sizes (not my usual 5.5 or even 5 wide) and I hate the break in period for docs. I’d love to find shoes that look similar, and are comfortable for all day walking. I’d also just love to know what you guys would buy for this kind of trip!
Vionic, birks or allbirds
I would second birks! I also solo traveled a few years ago in Europe for 6 weeks (summer), and the birks were literally all that I wore! I destroyed them but they were so comfortable and fit with everything I wore. I ended up getting a second pair (same color and design) because I love them so much!!
Which type of Birks? I have a few pairs of Arizona’s that I love but I can’t imagine traveling/walking miles in them, would love to know if there’s another option!
I am going to Europe in June and I plan to bring a pair of Veja sneakers, Birkenstocks and a chunkier heeled sandal (that I probably won’t wear because I heard the cobble stone streets are not kind to heels).
I was in Europe in the fall and I saw so many people in France wearing Veja sneakers. Didn't see them as much in Italy, but very popular in France.
I’m planning a similar trip and considering Vejas- have heard conflicting things about their comfort! What is your experience with them?
I bought my first pair in hopes of looking less like a tourist in Europe! I think they're called Samara. Looks like similar styles are on sale at Nordstrom right now. Enjoy your trip!
blundstones - wear for everything. i work, party and hike in mine.
I am in love with my blundstones
Seconded, thirded, etc. Loving how stylish they’ve become too. When I bought my first pair ~5 years ago, my Australian friend told me that Blundstones were for bogans (rednecks). Well, LOOK AT THEM NOW!!
I genuinely think Blundstones are the perfect travel shoe. If I had to travel the world with one pair of shoes it would be Blundstones!
All birds are very comfortable but little to no support anywhere on the shoe (arch, ankle, or otherwise). I wear them for running errands or short walks, but if I wore them for a (standing) work shift or out all day shopping or something, my feet hurt.
Ironically I bought them specifically for a trip to Spain. They were fine... I brought significantly more uncomfortable shoes so maybe it was in comparison. My feet hurt at the end of every single day from just the amount of walking so hard to tell what was just the sneakers!
Another option IF YOU HAVE TIME TO BREAK THEM IN could be Cole haan grand Crosscourt, they’re super simple and cute and after a few months (long, I know) they’re my favorite cute-but-comfortable walking shoe. But they do have a thin sole, so maybe not the most supportive choice.
Hi guys just wanted to hear mga reccos niyo for travel shoes? Looking for something na kaya ipaglaban yung mga 20-35K steps a day. Used to bring at least 2 pairs per biyahe pero looking into just bringing one this time to save on space and hassle.
Thank you all! Happy and Safe Travels!!
Skechers GoWalk
Can attest! Nilaban ko GoWalk3 sa Europe. My lazy ass reached 25k steps/day pero never sumakit feet ko. For Japan, GoWalk5. Pagod na calves ko kakaakyat ng stairs pero laban parin talampakan 😆
True. Even for seniors like my parents (80+) they were comfortable during long walks.
Yes Skechers!
Hi! I had plantar fasciitis before, ung super sakit na. Ngpa therapy ako sa Philippine Orthopedic sa Salcedo Makati. Nag okay naman ako after ilang session, i also used skechers go walk, and insoles na biofresh, meron cia sa watsons or SM dept. after a few weeks, i dont need any of those pero gingamit ko pa din ung insoles. My recent travel to Korea, skechers shoes gamit ko pero di na go walk type, kinaya naman. But yes, skechers go walk is the most comfy.
I have plantar fasciitis din, better go to a doctor so they can recommend an in-sole that will help. After getting a customized insole, never na sumakit yung feet ko kahit na mumurahin na sneakers lang. But otherwise, I use Asics GEL-1130. Pasabuy business ko sa Japan so pag "business days" almost 30k-40k steps din.
You got a lot of shoe suggestions already but I’d like to emphasize the importance of the type of socks you wear, too! I swear by wearing compression socks during long walks. Even when I’m not wearing the comfiest shoes, I can easily manage 20k steps a day without feet or leg pain.
This. My boss and I roamed Singapore and got about 30k in during our office trip free day. My shoes were new and for walking talaga pero ang sakit na ng paa ko after. Siya worn sneakers ang gamit pero OK pa mag-walk, when I asked her how, she said she got and wore thick athletic socks for the trip.
Ultraboost. Tested and proven. Kahit mag lakad ka whole day kaya.
Yung hoka sana kaso too bulky for travel.
Pero isa casual shoes ko for all around is adidas advantage. Good din ang mileage ko, pero it doesnt offer the cushion ng ultraboost. Better than stan smith.
• New balance 530 — di ako binigo neto sa Japan • Adidas Ultraboost — di ako binigo neto sa South Korea
+1 on adidas ultraboost. never sumakit paa ko kahit everyday 20k+ steps. ok din on cloud, pang alternate ko sa ultraboost
+1 sa NB 530s here haha. Healthcare worker ako and I’ve been using it for duty for almost 2 years now. Kahit ilang beses pa ako pabalik-balik sa wards 🤣 to top it off I commute pa so super worth it din.
Hey guys,
I am looking for a few new sneakers that I would be able to walk around in the city in all day with no problem. I am hoping to find something that isn't just Nike, NB, Adidas etc. but that does hold up comfort wise. I have been looking through posts here and it seems like there's mixed reviews on the comfort of Karhu. What brands do you recommend for good comfortable walking shoes that are still a bit off the beaten path? And if you have had Karhu, are they comfortable? Also, does anyone know what's the easiest way of ordering Roos in the U.S.?
Thanks!
Grabbed a pair of Asics Gel-1130 and I just did 110,000 steps in NYC last week. Probably the most comfortable sneaker I've ever owned. I also have a pair of Hoka Clifton 9s and I'd say they're also comfortable but the Asics were better for actually walking long periods in and looked better overall.
Asics Gel-1130
Also tend to be a more affordable price point than NB and just as good.
Hoka. I got a pair of the Bondi 8 model and they became my favorite shoe to wear. They are extremely comfortable for all day wear. Also Altra has great models for all day wear shoes. Hope this helps.
I'm curious if anybody has tried Hoka Transport? They actually released this last year specifically as an urban walking (or "commuter") model. The design appeals to me as it looks less like a running or mommy-jogger shoe.
Gotta check that model out.
Why must they be so aggressively ugly though?
I learned to love them. My wife got them for me and I was not thrilled and now I want a second pair
Throwing out Brooks as a great brand. Honestly, your best bet would be to go to a running store & and try on as many different styles as possible. For something that you plan on wearing for hours on end, having random recommendations on a forum isn’t the best way to go about it. Get fitted based on your foot and go from there. You nixed NB most likely based on their current style-centric offerings but they have plenty of performance shoes and even some crossovers with shoes like the 99x series.
Yes -- some Brooks models can definitely look really good as daily sneakers. They don't tend to have the oversized or chunky sole look of many running brands, but the comfort is out-of-this-world. Brooks Ghost or Elevate Levitate are good picks.
They have definitely resisted the move to the chunky “dad-core” styling that has been huge recently. I love the Adrenaline series & they usually have a handful of fun colorways. The trail shoes do have more of a colorblock look towards them but are still more function over fashion.
Saucony, New Balance & Asics are all terrific options
You said no NB but the fresh foam 1080s are like the comfiest shoes I’ve ever owned. Practically all I wear now.
