Common Online Casino Scams to Avoid

Withdrawal Nightmares

One of the most prevalent scams involves difficulties with withdrawing your winnings. Scam casinos often create barriers by imposing endless verification processes, delays, or outright excuses for not processing withdrawals [1]. Before depositing, it's advisable to search online forums, such as Reddit, for any reported withdrawal issues related to the casino you are considering [1:1].

Shady Licensing and Lack of Transparency

A legitimate online casino will prominently display its licensing information. Casinos that do not provide this information could be operating without regulation, making them risky to engage with [3]. Additionally, if registration is not required before playing, it might indicate a lack of oversight, which can lead to refusal of payments without explanation [3].

Unrealistic Bonuses and High Wagering Requirements

Scam casinos often lure players with overly generous welcome bonuses but attach high wagering requirements that are nearly impossible to meet, such as 70x playthroughs [3:1]. These tactics are designed to keep players depositing money without ever being able to withdraw their winnings.

VPN Usage Accusations

Some casinos may accuse players of using VPNs as an excuse to confiscate balances, even if no VPN was used [5]. This highlights the importance of choosing casinos with reputable licenses and maintaining records of your gameplay to dispute false claims [5:1].

Due Diligence and Safety Checks

Before depositing money into an online casino, conduct thorough research to verify its legitimacy. Check if the URL starts with HTTPS, read the terms and conditions, and ensure the casino has a valid gaming license [4]. It's crucial to perform extensive due diligence rather than relying solely on superficial checks [4:1].

Recommendations Beyond Discussions

To avoid scams, stick to well-known and reputable online casinos, especially those licensed under recognized authorities like the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) or the UK Gambling Commission. If you're in the US, consider platforms like FanDuel, DraftKings, and Bet MGM [2:7]. Always cash out when reaching payout limits to minimize risks [5:5].

ORIGINAL POST

As someone who has been surfing online casinos and had a lot of successful experience of withdrawing and getting scammed. I've listed all the red flags I've observed so you don't need to go through that shit.

  • Withdrawal Nightmares:

This is the biggest one. If a site's making it impossible to get your cash, RUN. They'll hit you with delays, endless verifications, or just straight-up excuses.Pro-tip: Search Reddit for "[casino name] withdrawal issues" before you deposit.

  • Shady Licensing:

Real casinos show off their licenses. Scammers? Not so much. Always verify the license with the licensing agency.

  • Ghost Customer Support:

Try contacting support before you deposit. If they don't respond, or they're slow and useless, imagine how they'll be when you have a problem.Pro Tip: Test out the live chat, and email support.

  • Sketchy Website Vibes:

A crappy website is a huge red flag. Broken links, outdated graphics, slow loading? They don't care about their site, they don't care about you. Also, make sure the site has the lock icon, which means it is secure.

Do your homework. Reddit is your friend. Search for reviews, complaints, anything. If it feels off, it probably is. Trust your gut.Don't get blinded by big bonuses.Be very wary of anyone who privately messages you.

Stay safe out there. There are some good online casinos, but there are also a lot of bad ones. And also, if you know someone or you're slowly having gambling problems, get help and stop as soon as you can

Those are all good indicators of scam casinos. But why are people using them in the first place when there’s so many well established legitimate casinos to use?

State laws, travel time... and sometimes you just want to try something different, for the 'shits and giggles'. Plus, they sometimes offer juicier deals, you know? They're not all scams; you just need to watch out and play smart.

LUCKYWINS CASINO

They also have a ton of sub brands like justcasino and a bunch more. It's owned by Dama N.V. which holds an active Curacao (8048/JAZ2020-013) license. I’ve reached out to the curaçao regulator and I’m trying to find a lawyer. I’m going to be spamming this across the internet.

Edit - here is a list of casinos owned by the same company.

————————————————————————

I’ve been playing and losing on online casinos for the past couple years. It’s gotten to the point where I’m just barely keeping my head above water. I signed up for a casino the other day and got insanely lucky and won $140,000. Almost enough to get out of the debt I’ve grown over the last couple years.

The casino I use only allows withdrawal requests of $6,000 at a time so I did 24 withdrawal requests, cancelled one and played that $6,000 and decided to leave it at that.

I woke up to an email from them today that stated I have a duplicate account and as such they are rescinding all winnings and will refund my deposit. I’ve searched my emails and bank records and I can’t find a credential for that site and there’s absolutely nothing. I’ve tried explaining this to their support chat as well as in replies to the email I received but I’m not having any luck. Is there anything else I can do?

That is an extremely common scam with online casinos. If they are some offshore thing you have no chance. If they are regulated then you need a lawyer, the amount of money is high enough to make it worth it

I should’ve looked a little closer at first. I found them through a simple google search, online casino Canada. After reading their terms and conditions I see that they’re based in Curacao.

If you get a lawyer to take the case they may offer a settlement of a fraction of the winnings. I would at least try. Curaçao does enforce things but you need to make an effort with a lawyer

Immediately export all bets and history if you can. Get as much evidence as possible

5 signs of an online casino that should be avoided

Posted by Gallito-de-las-Rocas · in r/gambling · 2 years ago

1. Registration is not required

The first sign of a bad online casino is that players are not required to fill out any forms before playing at the casino, such as roulette, blackjack, slot machines, etc. These sites are usually not regulated by any external authorities, which means they can do whatever they want. Playing in such casinos may include, among other things, refusal of payments without any explanation.

2. License information is not available on the page

The fact that these establishments do not want to disclose where they are located is a serious alarm signal.

Regulated European online casinos must indicate their license number directly on the main page. Any site that doesn't want to share this information is most likely trying to deceive people.

3. No section with terms and conditions

If there is no T&C link on the casino homepage, there is a high probability that there is something suspicious behind the scenes.

4. No section on gambling liability

Legitimate online casinos will always adhere to responsible gambling practices. Ignoring the rules of responsible gambling, online casinos create the impression of unreliable and create problems for players with gambling addiction.

5. No support service

Real casinos pride themselves on having professional customer support staff who know how to handle any situation as quickly as possible. Scammers do not hire anyone for this position at all

This is a good list.

A few things that could be added:

  • very high casino welcome bonus to lure in big deposits
  • high wagering requirements that are impossible to clear like 70x

You doing a safety check before you deposit?

Posted by ilikegamingtoo · in r/onlinegambling · 3 months ago

When you wanna play, you wanna play, but before you throw money at a new online casino site, do a quick check that it’s licensed (trust me). Does the URL start with https? Can you actually read the terms and conditions (or are they at least not shady)?
Takes like 2 minutes, thank me later.

While these are good things to check for, these alone are not a good indicator of a casino being “safe”. Conducting extensive and proper due diligence will almost always verify the legitimacy of the casino. I have a hard time understanding why anyone would hand over thousands or tens of thousands of dollars to any casino without conducting research or even verifying their gaming license. That’s just careless and reckless behavior.

Online casino confiscated my ~€10,000 balance (MGA)

Posted by notausername012 · in r/onlinegambling · 5 months ago

Hey everyone,

I recently received a lovely letter from an online casino where I had a ~€10,000 balance, and they decided to confiscate it. I feel absolutely sick to my stomach. This casino is licensed under MGA. It’s not surprising that a casino would try something like this, but this is the first time I’ve had such sick accusations thrown at me with zero evidence to back them up.

They claim I violated their terms for the following reasons:

  1. VPN usage – I have never used a VPN while playing. I used the same shitty live games provider for all my bets because I couldn't access Evolution or other providers from my location, so I know for a fact that this is a lie.
  2. Bonus abuse – I never used a bonus at this casino -_-. I have full video recordings of all my bets, proving that I played fairly.
  3. Submitting forged documents – I obviously submitted only real, valid ID for verification, yet they falsely accused me of providing fake documents.

The casino refuses to provide any real evidence of these accusations and simply confiscated my winnings. Fortunately, I have a lot of video evidence from my time on this casino, including:

  • Video proof of 90% of my bets.
  • Full video evidence of all my transactions.
  • Proof that my account details and documents are legitimate, including the bonus tab showing nothing in it.

I have already filed a complaint with Casino Guru, and if necessary, I will escalate the case to Malta Gaming Authority (MGA)..

Has anyone else been in a similar situation?

  • Do casinos often use these excuses to avoid payouts?
  • How should I proceed if they refuse to cooperate?
  • Has MGA ever helped in cases like this before?

Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hey, have you contacted casinoguru or askgamblers to open a complaint with then and step in? Additionally you can also contact MGA directly, they should be pretty strict if what you stated is true.

Exposing Algorithm Based Scam Behind Online Casinos: Why Stake Casino and Evolution Gaming Avoid Regulation, A Gray Zone Scam

Posted by Puzzleheaded_Move410 · in r/StakeScam · 10 days ago
post image

How Stake Operates: Eddie Stake specialized in the Gray zone scam, Stake operates in countries or states where online gaming isn’t legal, so no commission can demand audits.

When U.S. states legalize online gambling, Stake doesn’t enter those markets. Instead, they silently pull out to avoid audits.

Question: If they were legit, why not comply with laws and prove fairness? They rather pull out of those markets then get exposed for their fraud. They will do bonus giveaways from the stolen funds.

The Pattern is simple:

  • Operate in gray zones which mean no regulators, no audits, no accountability.
  • Steal money under the disguise of “provably fair crypto gambling.”
  • Use giveaways, influencer marketing, and flashy sponsorships to lure more players.
  • Pull out anywhere real regulation might reveal the scam.

Whenever players question the pattern, Stake hide behind the phrase: 👉 “It’s just variance.”

But in these online platforms, variance is simulated, a cover for an algorithm that ensures no consistent winners exist. Read more here:

If a casino makes you deposit to redeem….

Posted by YeetoCheetoNeeto · in r/CasinoFreebies · 8 months ago

It is a scam.

We keep getting posts and comments about this. The answer is always a scam. Even if they do deliver, they take your banking information and steal from you.

Legit casinos will always let you redeem without purchase. Always. They might have a ridiculous turnover rate, sure, but they will NEVER CHARGE YOU.

Case in point, before you post and ask, it’s always a scam. Always.

ah yeah... luckyland is like that... you can only redeem as much as you've deposited in a lifetime using skrill on skrill I found this out the hard way when I won $4k and wanted to redeem it all on skrill and was forced to split between skrill and my bank. and support told me this so now if I ever deposit to LL, it's via skrill

Is PokerStars a Scam? After winning $6000 - account blocked for no reason and no feedback from Support

Posted by Vampirepro · in r/poker · 6 years ago

On January 19 I created an account on PokerStars.com and deposited $800.

After 1 day of playing poker and online casino I won about $6000, shortly after this, my account was blocked.

I get the following message:

"Your account has been temporarily restricted pending a routine security investigation. We apologize for this delay.

These checks are usually completed within minutes, after which time your account will either be re-opened with full functionality, or you will receive an email explaining required next steps."

Note that they say it usually takes minutes.... well I'm already waiting since 2 weeks and I get no feedback! I already contacted the support several time and got no justification why my account is blocked, nothing.

What the hell is going on with PokerStars? I was thinking they were a serious company, but looks like they don't really care about their customers.

Anyone had the same problem before?

UPDATE:

After making this reddit post I emailed the support with the post link.

One day after (today, 6 Feb), I received confirmation from them that my account was reopened and everything is in order.

In addition to that they credited my account with more $2000 from a previous bet that I had won but they had rejected due to some technical problems.

So finally I want to say props for the PokerStars team for this, but still its a shame that I had to come to this point, just a simple clarification would have been enough, Jesus Christ.

Next step is to withdraw the money... I hope no more show stoppers. I'll update here if any other issues.

Thank you all who supported

Things you might have done wrong, which you dont realise: created multiple accounts, playing from a country where online gambling is illegal, logged in from 2 different countries (even at seperate times), have illegal software running (even innocent ones like equilab), many other things.

Which country are you from?

Question about scammers

Posted by dustypedro · in r/playrust · 4 years ago

Hello I am a avid rust player, and gambler. Recently, I was scammed. He sent me to a website where it was a gambling site, and had me win a bunch. Before I could get my skins, he banned me and I lost everything, I had anywhere from 500 to 800 in skins. I was devastated. I had rage quit and broke my computer. I was on a second computer at the time so it didn’t matter that I broke it. But I had not known there was a 15 day return policy. So by the time I figure that out it was too late. Today I got the same message. A guy offering to make me win if I put his website in my account name. I wasn’t going to be fooled though. And I will never do something like that. But it brings up my question are those websites real or was that guy one time thing

Best site is clickitpoker it’s referral only with around 400 players so it’s like playing a home game they give all the rake back in freerolls and bonuses and it takes about 2 mins to cash out. Just go to the site on your own enter rjben101 as your referral code and you can play freerolls with no deposit with my referral code you can deposit on the site with PayPal or cc or hit up the admin and he can set you up 24/7 been on here for few years now and got ripped off by bodog pokerstars full tilt bovada so glad I found click it. The game is finally fun again except for when I get sucked out on of course. If you try it you will never play anywhere else. I get nothing for this except more people to play against. The pros play here sometimes greg raymer moneymaker and more I’m forgetting but I’m not scared to play a pro but I understand if you are just don’t play that night or get on a difficult table. See you there you can go to fb as well if you wanna do some checking out before you get in the game.

common online casino scams to avoid

Key Considerations for Avoiding Online Casino Scams

  1. Unlicensed Casinos: Always check if the casino is licensed and regulated by a reputable authority (e.g., UK Gambling Commission, Malta Gaming Authority). Unlicensed sites may not adhere to fair play standards.

  2. Too Good to Be True Bonuses: Be wary of casinos offering unrealistic bonuses or promotions. Read the terms and conditions carefully, as they may come with hidden wagering requirements or restrictions.

  3. Poor Website Security: Look for secure websites (HTTPS) and check for signs of security measures, such as SSL certificates. Avoid sites that do not protect your personal and financial information.

  4. Withdrawal Issues: Research player reviews regarding withdrawal processes. Scams often involve casinos that make it difficult to withdraw winnings or impose unreasonable delays.

  5. Fake Customer Support: Test the customer support service. Scams may have unresponsive or unhelpful support. Legitimate casinos usually offer multiple contact methods and responsive service.

  6. Phishing Scams: Be cautious of unsolicited emails or messages claiming to be from a casino. Always log in directly through the official website rather than clicking on links in emails.

Recommendations:

  • Stick to well-known and established online casinos with positive reviews.
  • Use payment methods that offer buyer protection, such as credit cards or e-wallets.
  • Regularly monitor your accounts for unauthorized transactions and report any suspicious activity immediately.

By being vigilant and doing your research, you can enjoy online gaming while minimizing the risk of falling victim to scams.
