TL;DR
Physical Activity
Engaging in regular physical activity is frequently mentioned as a powerful way to reduce stress. Many users recommend strength training, jogging, or any form of exercise like yoga or stretching [2:1]
[3:5]. Physical exercise not only helps manage stress but also improves overall mental health and stamina
[2:5]. Even simple activities like walking can be beneficial
[1:1].
Mindfulness and Meditation
Meditation and mindfulness practices are highlighted as effective methods for stress relief. Taking time each day to meditate or engage in deep breathing exercises can help shift focus away from stressors and promote relaxation [1:1]
[2:1]. Establishing routines that include meditation or yoga can further enhance mental clarity and reduce anxiety
[5:3]
[5:4].
Gratitude and Journaling
Practicing gratitude by listing things you are thankful for can positively impact your mindset and reduce stress [1:2]
[4:2]. Journaling is another habit that allows you to express thoughts and feelings, providing a therapeutic outlet for stress
[2:1].
Wind-Down Routine
Establishing a wind-down routine at the end of the day can help you relax and prepare for restful sleep. Activities such as taking a warm bath, engaging in skincare routines, or sipping chamomile tea are popular choices [3:1]
[3:2]. These small habits create a calming environment that aids in reducing stress before bedtime.
Healthy Living Choices
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle through balanced nutrition and hydration is crucial for stress management. Avoiding substances like tobacco and alcohol, staying hydrated, and consuming essential nutrients like potassium and magnesium contribute to overall well-being [4:1]
[5:5]. Meal prepping can also alleviate daily stress by ensuring you have nutritious meals ready
[1:2].
Incorporating these habits into your daily routine can significantly reduce stress and improve both mental and physical health. Remember that finding what works best for you may require some experimentation and adjustments.
Busyness is inevitable for most of us; what practices, large and small, keep you mentally and physically healthy and reduce general anxiousness?
For me, it's all about finding balance in the chaos. I make sure to schedule "me time" even if it's just a few minutes for deep breathing or a quick walk. Meal prepping on Sundays helps keep my week stress-free, and setting clear boundaries, like no work emails after dinner, lets me unwind. Also, I try to practice gratitude daily, even just listing a few things I'm thankful for helps shift my mindset. Small habits like these add up and really help me manage the daily grind!
I’ve been working about 80-85% of a full schedule for about 14 years
I take antidepressants and anti anxiety meds
I’ve been clean and sober for decades
I’m in AA and I go to church and Bible study
These have worked for me
switched careers
To reduce everyday stress, I’ve found that small habits really make a difference. I prioritize short, daily workouts, whether it’s a quick walk or stretching. I also try to take a few minutes each day to breathe deeply or meditate. Setting boundaries and taking breaks throughout the day is key too!
I have a lot of responsibilities to shoulder right now and I've seen what smoking or being an alcoholic can cause just looking in my family.
So what are some healthy habits or hobbies that help you relieve or handle that stress?
Exercise like a gym or just walk/run/hike, meditate, read a book, do yoga or stretch, cook healthy meals and learn new techniques or styles.
Workout and exercise. Some gyms are super cheep. (Planet fitness is 10 bucks a month if there is one by you). Exercise is good for just about everything. Even if you don’t have that much extra time to workout, it will still eventually turn into a hobby if you keep with it
Go lift weights at the gym, that’s what keeps me level headed. I have a ridiculous amount of responsibilities on my plate and blowing off steam at the gym is my daily therapy. If I don’t lift I become super agitated.
Physical exercise is the best for mental drain
Strength training, Stretching and mobility work, Meditation, Journaling, Listening to music, Cooking, Cold showers, Being in nature, Avoiding social media and screen time in general
Busyness is inevitable for most of us; what practices, large and small, keep you mentally and physically healthy and reduce general anxiousness?
Every night before I sleep I always take a warm relaxing bath and then doing other selfcare activities like skincare and brushing my hair. It always relaxes me and makes me feel good. Eating healthy and doing home exercises like stretches helps too.
I smoke weed, take a warm shower, and read a chapter or two before I fall asleep. It helps me relax.
My exact routine! Plus a cup of chamomile whilst reading☺️
Having a wind-down routine puts me at ease and relaxes me. This includes:
I second the wind down routine. I own a restaurant when I get home I need at least one law and order episode to decompress lol
Is mindless the name of it?
Haha - no. I should have been more specific.
It depends on my mood. Sometimes I’ll listen to true crime podcast, but lately I’ve been listening to:
I need something more lighthearted lately
Jogging, I jog a few miles at least once a day
There are an ungodly amount of benefits to jogging each day, including reduced stress, increased stamina, even things like increased libido lol
Oh my God I love running as well. Zone two I can go for hours.
I like to eat candy as I run. Because candy doesn’t count while you’re in motion. 🤣
But the mental clarity that it brings is not enough !
I love that you eat candy while you run. I’m going to start trying that.
I do not get involved with high conflict people. Leave the tolerance at work. Personally, I keep to myself, or with just few decent people.
100%. Realizing this in myself.
What are some small healthy habits that will improve your life?
Meditating every morning. Writing down 5 things I’m thankful for every morning and every evening.
Keep hydrated with water and zero calorie sports drinks; keep alcohol consumption to a min.
Don't forget about mental health too, find a person to help with stress and worries. I haven't and am regretting it as I feel worse with each thing I bottle up.
Don't be afraid of talking to some one though sadly not every one you talk to understands or cares but getting things off your chest is important, it's just finding the right person isn't usually easy but not impossible.
Quit smoking. Hydrate. Take care of your teeth. Don’t drink like a fish.
Going to the gym
This is not a small thing to me.
#1- stop poisoning yourself. That means no more tobacco, alcohol, garbage food, etc.
I have some medical problems that get worse because of stress. I have tried to reduce it by becoming a minimalist and embracing simple living.
The thing is, I love doing a lot of stuff, and sometimes I feel like I am doing more than I can handle for me to be more relaxed and peaceful and stress-free. Every time I try to focus on just a couple things and embrace free time I find myself just doing different things and keeping busy. Because I enjoy the things I do, I find it extremely hard to change the habit of wanting to always be doing something.
Do you have a specific thing that has helped you embrace stillness and find peace? Have you found a way to be less stressed even when having lots of activities?
Do fewer things more intensely. Finish some things before starting new ones. Konmari your obligations the same way you would your possessions.
Stress is mental. Change your mind. Change your perspective.
Tactics: Meditation, yoga, physical fitness. (the brain is a body part that is fueled by blood.)
I also go to bed REALLY early and aim for like 10-12 hours of sleep to reset my brain. Usually does the trick for any stress involving loss of direction.
Yoga and meditation
Getting enough potassium and magnesium
I used to stress over work. At my new job, everyone is stressed but me.
My trick is going one speed (pretty fast) but not too quick where I don't enjoy myself. If others hand me a task, if it's too large I tell them my plate is full and I'm happy to do it if X is taken from my plate or im provided with Y resource to assist. They know they will receive good results from me, but I'm at work for a limited time (8 hours sharp) and when I leave, I'm done.
Recently got more responsibility at work since my boss quit. I know the experience will be good in the long run but this is all happened way sooner than I hoped.
I've always turned to eating garbage and smoking cigarettes in difficult times but I really can't put my body through it anymore. What are some ways y'all deal with stress? Lately I've played guitar more but I really need to find more strategies so that I don't let the bad habits get out of control.
The best ways is to find hobbies and stick with them. They could be exercising, reading, writing, learning something new. Playing guitar is a great way to cope with stress. And underrated thing is to go for a walk. Heck, you can even talk to someone when you're feeling stressed.
Things that will not help would be any activity that can get you addicted or unhealthy such as drinking, smoking, gambling, watching porn.
I would add, hobbies with other people doing like a pick up game of something can help you get out any excess energy from feeling stressed!
Walk....walk as much as you can... it saved me.... literally.... for 3 years now on a daily basis, it has helped me put my thoughts in order, see the priorities...took big life decisions and I lost weight... I look better, I eat better, I sleep better... I am a happier person... it"unlocks" my jaws too... I smile more I have been told.... Walk my friend walk....
Start with lifestyle changes if possible, for example eating garbage. My coworkers have been eating rice cakes and such, and while you can still snack, it’s a lighter and potentially healthier snack, than let’s say doritoss
Rice cakes are a bad example. Fruits and nuts are the best things to snack on
Bro, as a Korean dude, don’t eat a lot of them. The amount of calories in them is really really high, even if they’re not very sweet ones. And they’re usually really sweet. Still probably better than crisps though
good advice, but I would propose eating carrot, celery, quark, a handful of nuts... the rice cakes are tsateless and high caloric.
or even a handful of cheese
Exercise. Do you have a Nintendo Switch? If so, I recommend Ring Fit Adventure.
This may sounds lame, but when I stop thinking of things as problems and frame them as challenges that I can be curious about it really made a big difference for me. I think of it as a game and it’s helped me enormously.
Jasmine essential oils, meditation, more sleep, hobbies
I love food, so I eat, but because I like to eat I have to excercise and excercise is suppose to be good for destressing. It's an evil necessary story of my life.
Practicing mindfulness. Imagining my thoughts are clouds and I just watch them drift away.
If you cant change it or it doesn't have a direct impact on you then its not your problem.
When making your schedule/to do list, include breaks. If you are overly optimistic about how much you’ll accomplish you’re setting yourself up to be disappointed.
Similarly with travel and prep time for appointments. Be realistic or even pessimistic and you’ll never have that late/frazzled feeling.
I'm talking sports (like running every other day), sleep (drinking chamomile tea before bed and reading), hygiene and health (drinking 2L of water and eating fibers), fitness (stretching, pilates)...
What are some little things you do everyday that have improved your quality of life?
Drinking 2L of water really helped me, its the only thing I drink besides coffee, lost alot of weight and gaining alot of muscle atm
but i'm on internet to release stress from real world?
Exactly, every post you see like this is always phone = bad and no phone = no stress
I not only have a bad habit of getting stressed out easily, but when I do get stressed, it feels awful and always gets the best of me. That feeling of dread runs from my throat down to my guts. Its horrible. And it was especially bad throughout this past week with finals (yes, I know its going to only get harder later on in life. Not looking forward to it).
Man, reading books I really like helped me out a bunch. It's a form of escapism that's more beneficial than TV or video games. I'd personally like to bounce between Fiction and spirituality books when I get stressed. Even if you're not religious there are some really captivating and thought provoking subjects in spirituality books.
I was also going to recommend exercising. Take it out on the weights
Working out is probably the healthiest stress reliever. Try running as well.
I got into weightlifting in college by joining my friends at the gym after physics exams. It really helps relive stress.
Agreed, and a vigorous romp in the sack does wonders as well.
Fighting. Boxing...In my case it was good.
Let the anger become punches in a heavy bag
Also you will get fit, confident and relaxed
You can always pay someone to let you beat them up as well if you’re a filthy rich industrialist
can never go wrong with watching some bob ross
healthy lifestyle habits to reduce stress
Key Considerations for Reducing Stress Through Healthy Lifestyle Habits:
Regular Exercise: Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity each week. Exercise releases endorphins, which can improve mood and reduce stress.
Balanced Diet: Focus on a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Foods high in omega-3 fatty acids (like salmon and walnuts) and antioxidants (like berries) can help combat stress.
Adequate Sleep: Strive for 7-9 hours of quality sleep per night. Establish a regular sleep schedule and create a calming bedtime routine to improve sleep quality.
Mindfulness and Meditation: Incorporate mindfulness practices, such as meditation or deep-breathing exercises, for at least 10-15 minutes daily. These practices can help center your thoughts and reduce anxiety.
Social Connections: Maintain strong relationships with family and friends. Social support can act as a buffer against stress and improve overall well-being.
Limit Caffeine and Alcohol: Reducing intake of stimulants like caffeine and depressants like alcohol can help stabilize mood and reduce anxiety levels.
Time Management: Prioritize tasks and set realistic goals. Break larger projects into smaller, manageable steps to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
Recommendation: Start by incorporating one or two of these habits into your daily routine. For example, begin with a short daily walk or a few minutes of meditation. Gradually build on these habits to create a sustainable lifestyle that effectively reduces stress. Remember, consistency is key!
