TL;DR
Mealime
Mealime is frequently recommended across discussions as a free app that offers a pro version for $20 per year. It allows users to pick recipes and automatically generates a shopping list based on shared ingredients [1:2],
[1:6]. While the nutritional information is only available in the paid version, users have reported significant weight loss and improved meal prepping efficiency using the app
[1:2]. It's available on Android and iOS
[5:4].
Paprika
Paprika is another popular choice, though it comes with a price tag of $6.99. It excels in importing recipes from various websites and organizing them efficiently [2:3],
[2:5]. Users appreciate its long-standing presence in the market and reliability
[2:7]. Paprika also includes features like grocery list creation and meal planning.
Plan to Eat
This app has been highlighted for its ability to import recipes directly from websites via a browser plugin, making meal planning seamless [1:4]. Plan to Eat provides both mobile and web versions, allowing flexibility in how users access their meal plans. The app is particularly useful for those who prefer a hands-on approach to organizing their meals.
Other Notable Mentions
These apps cater to different needs, from detailed nutritional tracking to simple recipe organization. Depending on your priorities—whether it's cost, ease of use, or specific dietary requirements—one of these apps is likely to meet your meal planning needs effectively.
Hi everyone. I've been looking to find a good (ideally free) app for planning meals in advance. Currently I'm using a Google Sheet, but this can be a pain on mobile. The apps I've found so far are more focused on generating meal plans, but I'm looking more for a calendar-type thing. Thanks!
I use the app Mealime. It is free and there is a pro option for 20 bucks for a full year. Many recipes to choose from. It will also give you a detailed grocery list as well as the instructions on how to cook the food. Nutritional info is included only in the paid version. My only complaint with them is that they honestly believe it takes 30 mins to make all their recipes. Since I started using that service and meal prepping 4 lunches per week, I have lost almost 10 pounds in 3 months.
I like CookUp - can save any recipes you find online easily, build grocery lists, send to instacart for delivery
Plan to Eat has been my saving grace the last few weeks!! They have a mobile app as well as a website. Even a plugin that lets you import recipes from the site you’re currently viewing instead of copying/pasting a link onto their site.
Mealime app is what you guys need.
Pick out your recipes, it then generates a shopping list accounting for all the shared ingredients.
MealBoard is pretty good. It is paid though.
You can store recipes, ingredients you have in stock and make shopping lists.
You can also add a recipe to your meal plan and select the ingredients you need to add to your shopping list.
Edit: looks like it’s only on the App Store at the moment, no Android.
I‘m wondering what the best app is for meal planning. I want to plan meals with a biz of flexibility for about a week and it would be great if I could share plans with my partner. I looked at a few but I‘m compeltely overwhelmed.. I don‘t care about nutritional data, and would be prefer a free app and would like to import recipes from different websites. Does anyone have any recs? :)
I‘m on reddit mobile and the search is terrible, sorry if there‘s already a post like this.
I have liked Meal Board. It’s $3.99, not free, but it’s a one-time price and there are no ads on it. It works well for importing recipes from most websites, and it also lets you import ingredients from the recipes you have planned into a grocery list. I haven’t really used the pantry feature, but it is to track what ingredients you already have at home.
I also use MealBoard and I’m very happy with it! I love the grocery list feature.
Okay so the guys on that thread are talking about money, but the app I found seems to be free? Am I looking at the wrong one?
It looks really good and Imm considering it, but it costs 5 $ in my country.
Anylist is pretty great! They have an app and a website, there's a button to import recipes and easily organize them, and you can easily add everything you need to a shopping list. I guess there's an iphone part that can automatically add things to Kroger (I think) but I don't have access to it.
Paprika does everything you want. It's been out for over a decade, at least that's how long I've been using it and it's a great app.
Whisk
Whisk is Samsung food now and complete trash 😭
whisk being dead is exactly why I'm here lol
I'm looking for a free or inexpensive meal planning app to help with weight loss. Years ago I used one but they changed to something else now.
Not sure but I use pinterest at times they have recipes and meal preps n such.
Any certain boards or people you follow?
No I haven't been on in awhile. I just write meal prep, or a specific type of meal and then browse what I like.
Carb Manager. I used it for a good year to help my wife and myself get a better grip on our nutrition. I’m not sure which features are free and which ones aren’t.
Mealtime is good and free
Second this, Mealime* is awesome
Ok I honestly have thought that it was mealtime for the entire time that I’ve used and never noticed that it was Mealime and that’s why the logo looked like that until I just read your comment. WHAT
Myfitnesspal.com is a free site. I use. Since I started using it I am doing 63 pounds.
Until you find one, I thought I would mention something that helps me is to use my note app to meal plan a week at a time. I can not only reuse them but I can search them by ingredients, store online recipes I use, make notes, and keep the grocery lists for them to start from.
I want to get into healthy cooking for me and my partner but find it hard to compartmentalise the receipts, grocery list, making a weekly meal plan, budget, planning the time to cook or the best order to cook things, etc. Are there any apps where I can keep all of these together so I know what to buy, best practices for waste, etc?
TIA
If you haven't found a solution yet, you could give IngrediPal a try (it's on Android). My friend developed it to help make cooking more efficient and cost-effective, and it's been incredibly useful for me
We use https://platepickers.com/ for our meal planning and preparing a shopping list
I highly suggest checking out cookwell.com to get into healthy home cooking! I loveeee ethan chlebowski’s youtube videos. They taught me so much
U could try the notes app on ur phone, u can customize it to ur liking and write down everything u need to keep track of in a small file on the app
This is what I do too! and It's a shared note with my husband so we can both make edits.
I use My Recipe Box. Its the best by MILES for organising food life x
I’ve been looking for a decent free app that provides tailored meal plans?
Mealime
Thirding this! The recipes are really varied and tasty, and typically pretty healthy/macro friendly. Plus it creates a grocery list and has lots of settings to customize for stuff you don't eat
Do you get all that for free or with the sub?
Seconding Mealime. Just started using it and have nothing but good things to say about the recipes and the app itself.
any android alternatives?
Mealime is on android
Any ideas on ones that might let you limit saturated fat in recipes?
Eat this much
Seconded, this app is awesome.
Budgetbytes?
Used eat this much for a while, I love it.
Not free but fitmencook can be had for a few bucks and it has a completely over built meal planning shopping list function
I follow a creator on TikTok who has a spreadsheet she uses in Notion for her budget and grocery planning for the week and I really want to start that for the sake of my finances. But every time I try to use Notion I just can’t. Its UI is so bad on mobile, which is where I prefer to do the bulk of my prep.
Does anyone have any free meal prep/planning/spreadsheet apps they can recommend?
I’ve been in that same boat with Notion! It’s great in theory, but the mobile experience just feels too clunky for something as hands-on as grocery and meal planning. I ended up switching to simpler apps for meal prep, like Paprika or Mealime, which are more straightforward and designed for that specific purpose. They make it easier to save recipes and generate shopping lists automatically, which is a lifesaver.
For the budgeting side of things, I use Habit Money to track my grocery spending each week. It’s not a meal planning app, but I like how it gives me a clear view of how much I’m spending across categories, including groceries. The weekly spending breakdowns really help me figure out where I might be overdoing it, like when I impulse-buy extra snacks that aren’t in the plan. It also sends reminders to check my spending, which keeps me in line with my grocery budget without too much effort. Between using Habit Money and a dedicated meal prep app, I feel way more organized and less stressed about food expenses.
Not sure about the financial aspect but I really like Copy Me That for meal planning, and it lets you easily save recipes and create a grocery list
I like Mealime. I pay $3/month but there is a free version. It probably saves me around $500/month if not more.
I use Supercook (I'm on Android).
Put in what stock you have, what you'd like to use as a main ingredient etc and it will give you a selection of recipes. It will also prompt you to consider other ingredients you might have, to broaden your options.
Will then send you to a Web page for the recipe itself.
Completely free and I use it from time to time to see what else I could make.
I use Fina Money for my budget and it helps me keep track of everything in one place. For meal planning try Mealime or Yummly.
They both let you plan meals and create shopping lists easily on mobile. Mealime is especially quick and simple to use for weekly planning.
As a student I struggle to cook my own meals due to lack of time and also I am lazy. So I end up ordering random junk food from DoorDash everyday.
Does anyone know any app/website that can provide step-by-step 10-minute healthy recipes (using basic ingredients) and can help me plan all meals for the entire week/month. If there is no such app out there, maybe I can make one as I am a software guy. Are there any more people that feel there is a need for this?
I like to use budgetbytes. Budget friendly recipes with an estimated time for each one. Also it has an app.
Edit: didn't see that the app version was paid and that you would have to buy each recipe with "credits." The website has all the recipes for free.
So if I read that correctly, you need to pay 3€ for an app and then buy further credits to unlock more recipes so you can eat cheaper. What?
I unfortunately assumed the app was free. I typically just use the website so that is a big woops from me.
Mealime is close to this, but not really 10 minute recipes. You can make a grocery list and order online pretty much directly from the app which is super helpful.
Edit: the free version has more than enough features to get by.
I’m thirding Mealime. Not 10 min recipes but super easy to follow for a beginner. I am a terrible cook and have been amazed by the meals I’ve made using this app.
Seconding Mealime. They’re great and the ingredients are usually very easy to find.
If you do make an app, I vote for including recipes that have low active time even if it takes more than 10min. For example I’d be okay with something that took 20-30 min to bake but the active time was under 10 minutes. Then I can do other stuff while it cooks.
Seconding this!
I’m 25 and graduated and still need this.
Look up hashtags on IG and Pinterest about “meal prep Sundays”. Not an app, but some people include recipes and grocery lists.
[removed]
Not an app but Chipotle catering is great way to do meal prep.
I like My Fitness Pal
Noom
I really like this website https://www.eatthismuch.com
Lots of great apps out there that can be tailored for your preferences, I personally use FatSecret daily and depend on it. You can scan labels, add your own products or foods.
I can’t say enough about it.
I've been struggling to eat even somewhat healthy and somewhat regularly, as well as cheaply. Lately I've been doing work on a startup in addition to normal work and don't have a ton of time to cook at all and I don't really know where to start.
Should there not really be a great application or something similar I would be happy to create a simple web page or set up some kind of interactive document somewhere that can act as a database of sorts or something along those lines
If you’re still in the market, I found a great app called MealPrepPro.
Probably should've mentioned I use Android
Ah. Well I believe their website has most of the features of the app.
Eatthismuch.com
There's a planning website called Relish that I really like (relishrelish.com) and they have an app as well. It's about $20 for 3 months and they have healthy choices, vegan choices, etc. They put out a new menu every Thursday and you pick your recipes. The great part is it creates the shopping list for you. It really saved me a ton of time.
Hi everyone, I’m trying to get back into meal planning and prepping so I can stay on track with my food as I’ve been abit go with the flow recently and haven’t lost any weight. Is there any apps or meal plan templates that you have that I can download? (Also if there’s any good TikTok pages for healthy meals focused on weight loss and keeping you fuller for longer please send me some suggestions!) thanks a lot in advance.

Would you use an app if one was available? Here is how it works: Enter your dietary restriction - vegan, keto etc; macros goal per meal, cuisine preference etc. Also enter any particular ingredients you want to avoid Enter your cooking experience/skill level, and the active time you want to spend cooking each meal Number of different recipes you want for breakfast and for dinner It will generate as many recipes you requested, and you can look at each one and decide if you want to replace that particular one. Tell the tool what you want different and it will give you a replacement recipe.
It generates an ingredients list with quantities, which you review and check off what you already have, Once done, you can download a shopping list.
In addition to the individual recipes, it also give you weekend prep and store instructions that you can follow to have everything ready for the weekday. You can download them all separately.
What are your thoughts? I appreciate any feedback you can give me so I can try and incorporate it before launch.
