TL;DR Recoil control in Valorant involves understanding the initial spray pattern, practicing burst fire, and using the practice range to adapt to the game's unique mechanics.
Understanding Recoil Patterns
Valorant's recoil patterns are somewhat random but have a general direction. The first few bullets (usually up to 7-9) tend to go straight up before swaying left or right [2:4],
[5:1]. Practicing against a wall in the range can help you understand these initial movements and adjust your aim accordingly
[3:1],
[5:6].
Practice Techniques
Practicing in the range is crucial for mastering recoil control. Start by shooting at a wall without moving your mouse to observe the spray pattern, then practice countering it with opposite mouse movements [3:1],
[4:1]. Focus on controlling the first 10 bullets before attempting longer sprays
[3:1]. Additionally, pay attention to the barrel of your rifle as it indicates the direction your bullets will fire
[3:2].
Burst Fire Strategy
Burst firing is often recommended over long sprays due to the randomness introduced in the recoil patterns after the initial shots [2:5],
[4:4]. For weapons like the Vandal and Phantom, it's suggested to limit bursts to 4-5 bullets
[4:5],
[5:5]. This method helps maintain accuracy and control, especially at longer distances
[5:5].
Avoid Spray + Crouch Habit
Many players struggle with the habit of spraying while crouching, which can lead to missed headshots [5:2]. Instead, focus on burst firing and strafing to reset your aim
[5:2]. Crouching should be used strategically, such as after the third bullet, to secure body shots if the initial headshot misses
[5:4],
[5:7].
Additional Resources
For visual learners, YouTube guides can offer detailed explanations and demonstrations of recoil control techniques [1:5]. Watching experienced players and practicing consistently can significantly improve your recoil management skills.
What is meant by recoil and how do you control it for perfect ( i mean good and easy ) kills? And headshots?
Dont bother with the recoil imo. I tried to control them like how Jonny mentioned but the bullets will somehow flies to a random spot. Even close range spray doesnt work for some weird reason. Your best bet is to do burst spray or tapping.
Bullets 1-7 are the only ones you really can control without the RNG coming in However, the recoil on bullets 1-7 is pretty minimal so just aim at the head and very slightly pull down on your mouse(while spraying). It may help to shoot at a wall in a custom game to give yourself some confidence that your bullets are going where you want them to.
To add when the horizontal movement happen look at your gun if the spray goes tight or left, the gun animation is bit earlier then the recoil.
Recoil control doesn’t exist
Just look it up on youtube. There's many guides for it with useful details and explanations
New player here, enjoying the game, but is there a mechanic to recoil control? Like dragging down on your mouse whilst shooting? Or how does it work? Thanks
Basically its dragging recoil where you pull down in a upside down reversed 7 outline, then it starts swaying randomly from side to side. You could try to go into the range and practice the first bit of the recoil pattern, or watch the barrel when it reaches max recoil height.
I’m going to give a brief and bad example explanation as I don’t play much.
Stand still and crouch for small spray pattern. Pulling down is how you control it but leaning the pattern is useful. Burst firing can be a good idea in some situations and tap firing is good for longer ranges but you have to find your distance as skill can affect this
I think the first 7-9 bullets generally go more or less straight up. After that, the bullets will either go left or right randomly. It's different from CS where the spray pattern is predetermined
There's a general pattern to it but it has randomness added to it because Riot doesn't want this game to be CS:GO.
The recoil is some what random it has a pattern but that pattern does change.
When the recoil kicks in the bullets will up and go left to right or right to left. You just have to look where your bullets or gun is swaying and counter that with your mouse movement's.
Head to the range and shoot at a wall at different distances to practice your recoil control.
So the one thing that bugs me about this game is the recoil pattern of the guns. I dont feel like it's the gun the is recoiling, but more like the bullets. I feel like I rarely have any control or idea of where my shots are gonna go. Any advice on how to adapt to this would be appreciated
Easiest thing to do it pay attention to the barrel of your rifle while shooting as well, the barrel pulls to the angle your bullets fire.
Tap or burst fire with most weapons. Stinger just ADS at range, spectre do maybe 8 bullet sprays while pulling down slightly, vandal do 1-3 round bursts, phantom you can drag down and to the left fairly effectively I believe but that could be wrong as I do it by muscle memory. The phantom is actually fairly easy to land medium range sprays, although they'll probably be body shots unless you have it down pretty well. For the most part this game benefits from tap firing more on all weapons, even the ghost and classic need to be shot slowly.
Praying for a miracle is what I do
Practice countering recoil against a wall in the practice range. First hold mouse 1 and don’t move your mouse. That’s the spray pattern. You need to do the exact opposite. I recommend practicing and perfecting a 10 bullet spray before you move on beyond that.
Is there an efficent way to learn how to handle weapon recoil?
I can aim, but I can't control the recoil of the weapon. Help would be great
Okay, so. I've been playing this game since episode 5 act 1. Not a long time but I managed to peak d2. What I've found is that the most efficient way to learn is to simply play. To elaborate, it's like learning how to ride a bike. Everyone learns at a different speed but you can only do so by actually attempting to ride a bike. Only through repeated attempts at getting on and pedalling the bike will you actually learn how to do it.
The best exercise for recoil control is to play some music and do deathmatches where it's a requirement to turn off your in-game audio (if you want to get better aim). Also, do simple tracking, strafing, bursting and flicking exercises in the practice range.
What's more, each weapon has a preferred way of being used, for example, you want to tap and strafe with a vandal and burst and strafe with a phantom. There are countless videos which you may find on youtube but it all boils down to consistent practice. Jollztv has examples and if you ever need I we can hop on a discord call and I can show you some stuff I did, let me know.
Hope some of this helps.
Thank you!
Try listen more to the bullets. You should first be able to just know how long a vandal can spray for at full ammo. So just shoot spray a few times until you think you remember. Then once you know, basically put like mental markers on the time interval when major things happen like direction turning.
Eg. 1 second of pulling down, 0.75 seconds to the left or right etc.
Obviously I don’t know the actual time values wouldn’t be this exact but once you’ve done it enough, you sorta can just feel when to adjust. Also focus on the tracers hitting the wall at first, they help a lot on showing when to change direction.
To an extent you can but for some reason the devs wanted to make spray patterns random. For the most part just tap or burst
if your using vandal do 4 shots. phantom 5. go to the range shoot at the wall and pull down at different speeds. when the bullets are tightly grouped that's the pace your looking for. then just spray in that burst against the wall every day for like 10 minutes until it becomes second nature
Thank you!
It’s probably not your recoil control, but your shooting mechanics.
Don’t spray at 20+ meters, maybe even 10, and instead be bursting and strafing, aiming for the head. You can practice this in the range.
If you really do need recoil control at 15-0 meters, just do some practice in the range and deathmatches.
Thanks you!
Hi I'm new here to reddit, I just want to ask, how should I control my recoil? Should I simply try to walk, stop and shoot while dragging my mouse down to control the recoil, or should I level my mouse and press crouch to drag my crosshair down? I'm a silver 2 player and I find myself really struggling with recoil control, especially when I'm using a combo of crouch and mouse drag downwards, which oftentimes causes me to miss a headshot that would have hit since it's already at head level. For longer distances, my recoil control becomes even worse, many times spraying randomly everywhere but the opponent. Sorry if this sounds stupid, I'm a newbie at tactical shooter and this is my first post. Thank you.
Try your hardest to get out of the habit of spray + crouching.
Try to burst fire and reset via strafing
I think burst fire is the way for this game. 6-9 bullets max, so all you have to do is pull down on your mouse.
Your first bullet should always be for the head standing up, the second and so on should be followed by a crouch to secure the body shot if you sponge the head. Hope that helps
Well, you should crouch on the 3rd bullet actually, not the 2nd but the point still stands. The best way to practice is just go into the range and watch where your bullets are going.
The actual recoil pattern is close to a number 7 starting from the bottom going up at a slight angle of to the left
Dont spray long distances. Tap or burst. Spray is for mid to close range, but with vandal, its good mainly for close range only. Tapping and bursting is much more efficient.
Look at the pattern when shooting against a wall, it is random but only after a certain amount of shots, you can also just try counter the direction of the shots.
I'm Immortal 2 so I'm not chatting bubbles. It does have some RNG but not as bad as you think.
I was a fortnite player with over 12k in earnings I just switched to valorant as fortnite is kinda crappy rn yesterday my aim was insane and today it’s terrible my friend said there changed something with the recoil and I have been hittten half my shots can someone help me how do I control teh recoil I barely played cs btw
they did not change anything with the recoil since yesterday.. if you are spraying you have to pull down when in full spray and actually aim at the opponents feet area depending how close you are to them when fully spraying just like csgo
With having 4000+ hours in CS and playing a lot of VALORANT recently I have come to the conclusion that tap fire is going to be the most useful instead of trying to gauge somewhat of a spray pattern. There is no 30 bullet pattern. If you learn to avoid aiming at the ground and training it in the practice mode and having a tight tap fire this should prove as a beneficial method. Hope this could help.
you go into a practice and play,
most guns are essentially left to right with a bit of upward recoil
And this is why they have the shooting range
so idk if you know this but its not just recoil its spray, so when you hold down the trigger the first couple shots will hit where your crosshair is but then the bullets will start hitting above where your crosshair is going upwards more and more above the crosshair so you have to inturn move the crosshair downwards so it gets to a point where your crosshair is WAAY below where your bullets are going, it also moves left to right as well that you have to account for when it stops moving upwards, a good place to practice this is the shooting test in practice, you spawn looking at the challenge where you can spawn bots, turn completely around and then take your first left right behind where you spawned and theres basically a target thats specifically for recording the different spray partterns and a stationary bot that dosent die next to it that displays damage numbers above its head, theres a close up of the spray patterns on the big target on a little one right infront of you because you can move the distance of the big target up to 50 meters so at that point you cant really even see what the spray is, thats THE BEST place (i think) to really get a good handle on the spray patterns ive spent a few hours atleast in here screwing around so i definatley recommend it, then once you get your spray down a bit with that big target and stationary bot, go back to the bot challenge and practice on them, very cool how they have such a well thought out practice range in a beta haha
I had the same issue with recoil, it'd shake the gun so much that either I had to make it a fully recoil build or pray to god. But recently, i checked out this setting. Idk if it was popular. Vertical turning sensibility, i have it very high and now my basic fennec beams across the map which is amazing asf for me. If any of y'all hate giving up spots in ur guns for recoil attachments then play around with vertical turning sensibility and have better aim.
thank you! i’ll be sure to check later 🙏
I saw a video about this and someone commented that you should only adjust the vertical sensitivity when Firing as recoil only happens when shooting.
Yw.
Generally it's only for weapons with easy recoil like Fennec or Oden. The hard part of a weapon's recoil is the hor pattern like with Peacekeeper or Cordite.
This, if the recoil pattern isn't just a straight line it's much much harder to control with it high. Basically same concept as general sensitivity. You can swing around faster but harder to aim with more sensitivity
Bruh, even the gun with the second hardest recoil in the game - peacekeeper, it only takes 3-4 hours before you know basically everything, and can control recoil like 90% of the time
Yea but not everyone gets the recoil.
True
Idk, I just think most people over react with recoil cuz recoil doesn't matter at all, really, it's just a matter of the first 1-2 hours for most weapons and 5-6 for weapons like peacekeeper, meaning less than a week even if you played just an hour a day
I thought that was a setting for vehicles only?
Players too. In firing and not firing.
Thanks for the advice man I’ll check it out
Im tired of people accusing me using any sort of tools due to my aim. The secret to this is just learn how to control the recoil curve and have a low sensitivity setting
I lost access to my account due to the excessive reports
Platform : PS5 Controller : Normal Dualsense 5
ID : Fxrez#6623 ( 3000+ hours, played since first day of open beta )
I mean NO I can’t do that with my ps5 controller BUT I do not have close to 3000 + hours. But with the limited amount I do have I can partially control recoil. The fact people are dming you in chat is crazy. So many losers sitting behind a screen say way to much👎.
If it helps I don’t think your cheating
It's baffling the amount of people who I guess are new to gaming thanks to the pandemic, or just shooters, I have a friend who only really played Gameboy and Nintendo ds shit, he never played cod 4 halo 3 and onward console games until around the smash bros brawl era it seems, people with less experience like him would likely never learn how to control recoil without tips ever
Exactly, it is achievable if you play a lot and put some work into it. I guess some players cant get over it when they are getting outperfomed by others.
It do helps brother, I appreciate that
Given enough time, anyone can have perfect recoil on any gun, the actual flicking and tracking part is where most of it comes into play.
100% agreed, but when you have 3000+ hours on this game, recoil and aim became secondary. Game sense is what matter the most. Having both will make you unstoppable (of course with good teammates)
I disagree with you. Having very good aim will get you to emerald in no time even with poor game sense. Why understand the mechanics and positioning when you can win every 1v1. I don't play ranked and I know in plat and higher game sense is crucial but in those ranks everybody's aim is already extremely good. Good aim but no game sense is enough to win the majority of WT games; good game sense but no aim will get you absolutely nowhere, even in casual gamemodes
People actually struggle with recoil??
Yeah, some would even send me hate message on PS5 saying i use hack
Peak response lol
Thats wild bro, where can i get em? Kidding, then explain me shooting at the wall while controlling the recoil 🥲
I'm not saying you use it, just saying unplugging the controller proves nothing lol
im working 9-5 got 3k hours in game 6k wins 80k kills 20k revive i got life and touching grass proudly say im good w both life gaming - work
Here you go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5_vGEoGh5U
From this recent thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/VALORANT/comments/gw3rqx/this_very_basic_spray_guide_is_a_must_watch_for/
I need it too! And how to not ads every time( rainbow 6 practice)
After your first couple shots, you need to pull down a lot more and keep it down than other FPS games to actually control the recoil. In other games you can just slowly pull the mouse down to maintain the accuracy, but in Valorant, it is a lot more aggressive, so you have to just aim really low of you're trying to control the recoil.
But your best bet is to try to get the kill with in the first 1-3 bullets from the gun depending on which one you're using. If you need to control recoil in every or even most gunfights you're doing it wrong and building a bad habit of spraying when it's a lot more beneficial to just use a couple bullets. Its not always the best thing to have to reload constantly because you used half your clip on one guy. That can get you killed.
thankyou for this detailed advice
Hi I'm new too val but picked up on things pretty quickly this game is pissing me off because everytime I place my crosshair on their head after killing sum1 previously it sprays above my crosshair. So I guess my questions would be how long is recoil reset for gun in this and how do you even go about controlling recoil example: i heard the first 10 bullets of the vandals go straight up and the rest go left too right. (I'm on console)
I don’t know about console but in PC, you can only control the vertical recoil, horizontal is just random. So yeah spray and prey is real
The spray patterns in Valorant are completely RNG (I'm not joking about that they are random), so its better that you work more on strafing and tapping. Go into the range and work on tapping the trigger once and then strafing, then tapping again. It will be harder on console, because the threshold in the joysticks, but just keep working at it.
1st bullet is as close to your crosshair as it gets 2 is a little off but still close, 3-7 are up with a little horizontal deviance, the rest go left right
I played valo since beta and still don't know how to spray control, sure it has its moments for usage but I think focusing on tap strafing is better, tap could go 1-3 shots then change ur position or ig u spray I usually spray for 10 bullets, because of I miss all 10 then the rng won't kick in and make it even worse. If U want to continue to spray U would do a tap strafe maybe for a second and for now activate shooting error on crosshair to know the timing of spray reset.
i dont typically spray i got for one tap but i wasnt quite sure on how i should be strafing until you said so
Go into the range and find out for yourself. Someone telling you its a second or whatever isn't going to do anything, you need to get the game sense to know yourself
i have but it just feels really inconsistent in game
How to control recoil in Valorant
Key Considerations for Controlling Recoil in Valorant
Understand Weapon Patterns: Each weapon has a unique recoil pattern. Spend time in the practice range to learn how each gun behaves when fired continuously.
Spray Control: When spraying, the bullets will rise and then move in a specific pattern. To counteract this, pull your mouse down and slightly to the sides in the opposite direction of the recoil pattern.
Burst Firing: Instead of holding down the trigger, use burst firing (3-5 shots at a time). This helps maintain accuracy and reduces the impact of recoil.
Crosshair Placement: Keep your crosshair at head level and aim for where you expect enemies to appear. This minimizes the need for large adjustments when firing.
Movement: Avoid moving while shooting, as this increases spread. If you need to move, strafe left or right and shoot in between movements to maintain accuracy.
Practice: Regularly practice in the shooting range or deathmatch to improve your recoil control and overall aim.
Recommendation: Spend time in the practice range focusing on different weapons and their recoil patterns. Use the "Shooting Range" mode to practice your spray control and burst firing techniques. Additionally, consider using aim training software or custom maps designed for recoil control to further enhance your skills.
