TL;DR
WordPress Versions: http://WordPress.com vs http://WordPress.org
Understanding the difference between http://WordPress.com and http://WordPress.org is crucial. http://WordPress.org provides open-source software that you can install on your own web host, offering more flexibility and control [4:1]. In contrast, http://WordPress.com is a managed hosting service that takes care of all the technical aspects but offers less customization
[3:1].
Getting Started with Domain and Hosting
To start building your website, you'll need a domain name and hosting service. Many users recommend platforms like GoDaddy or other hosting services that offer WordPress hosting packages [5]. Once you have these, you can install WordPress and begin setting up your site
[4:1].
Choosing Themes and Page Builders
Selecting a theme is an important step in designing your website. WordPress offers a variety of free and paid themes that can be customized to fit your needs. For additional customization, consider using a page builder like Elementor, which allows for drag-and-drop design without needing to code [1]. Watching tutorials on platforms like YouTube can provide valuable insights into using these tools effectively
[1:2].
Organizing Your Website
When organizing your website, especially if you're showcasing a portfolio or providing multiple services, it's recommended to create separate landing pages for each service. This helps with SEO and makes it easier for visitors to navigate your site [5:1]. Keep your design simple and focus on functionality over perfection
[5:4].
Utilizing Online Resources
There are numerous online resources available to help beginners learn how to use WordPress. Websites like WPBeginner offer comprehensive guides and tutorials for those new to WordPress [1:1]. Additionally, engaging with community forums and seeking advice from experienced users can provide further assistance

I want to make a personal site to showcase my portfolio and include a few client testimonials. I don’t own a domain yet.
Can anyone guide me on how to do this myself from scratch? I’m not looking to outsource. I’d really like to learn the whole process and maintain it on my own.
Any beginner friendly tools or steps you would recommend would be super helpful. Thanks!
You can easily do it on WordPress. If you need more help don't hesitate to reach out to me
Wix has good number of templates, relatable and easy to edit. High recommended.
I suggest to start with blogger is simple and helpful for you. And good luck

Thank you!!!
I'm assuming you meant to say begin....
It depends if if you're using WordPress.com or WordPress.org.
Yeah... That was a typo
First off, i am a complete beginner and i am willing to learn! Recently came across the site Mic.com and wish make something inspired off of it. My site will be mostly for blogs and/or writing samples. Any pointers? :)
First off, there are two different "WordPress" versions people think of: WordPress, the open source software from WordPress.org. And WordPress.com, the managed WordPress host. This is a useful article:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
WordPress the software is free and open-source. You just have to find a webhost you like, buy a plan, register a domain name, connect domain to host, get WordPress installed, and away you go. It sounds harder than it is. There are lots of resources out there that will talk you through a lot of it step by step.
WordPress.com is a host that offers both limited WordPress hosting plans that can be great for those just starting out (Free/Personal/Premium) and managed WordPress hosting (Business plan). Managed WordPress hosting is going to be a bit more expensive than your average hosting plan from Bluehost/GoDaddy/Knownhost/etc. But I tend to suggest it for people who are brand new to WordPress. It offers the ability to take backups, updating, site security, and other maintenance tasks off your hands and offers a WordPress specific support team to help you when you get stuck. It can be a great place to start for people new to WordPress and site building. Some other companies offering managed WordPress hosting would be Pressable.com, Kinsta, WPengine and so on. All are very reputable and solid hosts. And once you have more experience, you can easily migrate to a regular host if you find that you don't need the features that managed hosting offers.
Or just grab a hosting plan from any host you trust, install WordPress, and start building your site. Many of us taught ourselves that way and there's no better way to learn than by doing!
Hey everyone, not sure if I’m in the right sub for this so let me know if there’s a better one!
I know nothing about web development, but was gifted a year long GoDaddy domain. Wanting something simple and beginner-friendly, I bought their Wordpress hosting service to build my site. I’m using their templates and keeping it simple, but I need some advice about organization.
I’m a freelancer and I’m trying to decide how to split up/design all the web pages I need to build. I’m a social media content creator/influencer who also offers photography, videography, and social media/creative strategy services. I’m also a creative writing major who’s always wanted to start a blog.
I’m looking to build a website that lets my followers read my blog, buy my prints, and find me on other platforms. I also need potential clients to see my creative content portfolio, services offered, and maybe a contact form.
The best way to do that is to put it all on one website with different pages, right? Like one super simple landing page/about me, that has a menu with links to blog, portfolio, print shop, etc pages?
I don’t have a lot of other freelancers in my circle so I’m just feeling a bit lost for inspiration when it comes to aesthetic and structure. If anyone has any general tips that my amateur ass can implement into web design, theme, page building, etc then I would love you forever. All day long I’ve been simultaneously trying to figure out how to build a site and how to design/organize it. It’s been HOURS of hating and deleting drafts and I fear i’m going to crash out
I haven't used GoDaddy but I like Wix. I'm a beginner so it's very forgiving to new designers.
I've also tried using a website generator like Durable AI to build my portfolio and they're pretty good. It takes less effort building there than Wix.
Keep it simple. Find a free template or even a paid template that has the sections that you would need. A landing page is something that you're looking for. Might as well give Framer a try. I built mine using Framer. It has a monthly subscription though, but the free themes in there are crazy good. Then I simply changed photos, added my own copy and changed the color scheme. Looks totally different now. It also optimized for multiple breakpoints and devices out of the box. :)
The only thing I'll say, don't try to make the perfect and the most beautiful website, make it well enough that it does the job of being a website. Stick to the basics and you won't regret it.
If you still need help, I’d love to assist!
simple watch as many videos as you can on the page builder you are using. some offer certain advance features to creating apple dot com looking websites.
withe the arrangement or categorization
create landing pages targeting each service you provide on a different page
eg social media content creator page ,photography page, videography etc. why it help your sites seo and google to understand what each page is about.
make your portfolio page as well to showcase your projects and partner's
make your blog page and start posting on the individual topics in your category and inter link to those relevant pages
In today’s digital world, having a website is no longer optional — it’s essential. Whether you're a small business owner, freelancer, blogger, or student, a website boosts your online presence, builds trust, and opens doors to endless opportunities. But how do you get started? This beginner-friendly guide breaks down the basics of website creation step-by-step.

Before you start designing, ask yourself:
💡 Tip: The clearer your purpose, the better your website structure and content will be.
Your domain is your web address (e.g., www.yoursite.com).
Make sure it’s:
🛠️ Use tools like Namecheap or GoDaddy to register your domain.
Web hosting is where your website files are stored. Some popular hosting providers:
💸 Pro Tip: Many hosting plans come with a free domain for the first year.
If you’re not a coder, no worries. Use beginner-friendly tools:
👨💻 WordPress + Elementor plugin = perfect for design control without coding.
This combo is often recommended in hands-on training in a Digital Marketing Course in South Delhi.

Creating a website may seem overwhelming at first, but with the right steps and tools, anyone can do it. Take it one step at a time, keep learning, and don’t be afraid to experiment. Your website is your digital identity — make it count!
Elementor has a wonderful YouTube channel. Go directly there and start from the beginning and pick and choose videos that you think will help you, based on what you want to do. One of the reasons I chose Elementor was because of their great documentation because tech support usually sucks for companies such as this. Skip all the affiliate marketers advising you to use Astra with Elementor and just learn Elementor first with Hello and then decide. I've helped too many confused people on here that mix up the settings for Astra and Elementor and screw up their sites. Learn one thing at a time. Despite being a pagebuilder, everything has a learning curve and this is no different. Take the time to actually learn, you aren't going to blow out a stellar site in two days with no experience. There are a ton of things to learn about site speed and optimization as well as the quirks of WordPress in general.
YouTube and build :)
Practice and play around with everything. Overtime, you’ll master it
General rule of thumb for anything internet…
Google first. You HAVE to learn how to learn. That’s the fastest path to what you want.
If you have any specific questions feel free to reach out and DM me or make another post. (:
Edit: If you have elementor pro, pick a template and edit it. Envato Elements has some great ones too, if you see one there you like, I can license it to you.
Agreed, Envato is very good.
You can license any template from Envato Elements?
Yeash.
To actually license it, I can only give it to the end user, and I technically have to install it myself to avoid breaking the licensing agreement.
(The end user also isn’t allowed to edit it, but screw that part, lol)
I think your first stop should be YouTube, and search for this same title and you should be fine 👍🏼
Just do it :-)
Hi guy, new to the subreddit. I've started a marketing agency and have an order to build an ecommerce website for a very low price. Would it be possible to create one through wordpress? Help would be much appreciated. Thanks
Seeing lot of criticism for WooCommerce in a WP sub, which is concerning. IMO, Wordpress + WooCommerce is a good fit for a low budget solution.
However, if you are looking for deeper customization (which we and maybe even you don’t know if the client requires yet), this can become a problem. Sometimes in WooCommerce, what seems like fairly minor adjustments can be quite troublesome and require workarounds.
WC out the box is fairly solid IMO. There are also many wonderful plugins and snippets available to extend the functionality. You should definitely not overuse these, but it does offer you a simple way to extend the features when the client makes a new request.
Alternatives: As some have mentioned, Wix is an option. I have found Wix technical support to be absolutely dreadful, but can’t speak for their e-commerce platform. Magento will be out of your budget I believe. Shopify is solid, and probably a good rival for this project and removes any payment gateway headaches. Ecwid is an up and comer and can integrate with WP, check them out.
If you are looking for a generic shopping experience without too much unique customization, WP & WC may fit the build.
Skip WordPress and go with Shopify. If you're that uninitiated with how running a website is, you'd probably be better off with a service that caters to users like yourself. Running professional e-commerce requires a secure site, so setting up SSL certificates, security plugins, quality hosting etc. It can totally be done on the cheap, but having the know-how to upkeep the site and keep it secure is something else entirely.
Though if you're running a marketing agency, what are you selling on the e-commerce front?
How would shopify be better than wordpress? Also shopify's plans i believe are a bit expensive than wordpress
Shopify is basically that "I want to start an e-commerce site without a lot of cost". Consider $29USD/mo isn't that bad. I know halfway decent monthly hosting should be at least $10, then factor in if you're charging a maintenance contract to keep the site up-to-date and secure. You're basically paying Shopify for all that upkeep they should be paying anyways.
Here's an article that lays out the pros and cons https://ecommerce-platforms.com/compare/shopify-vs-woocommerce-comparison
I'm a WordPress guy myself, but I do know the one Woocommerce site I've build was like wrestling a bear at times. On the other hand, I do know quite a few people successfully running Shopify stores.

No, not at this moment. Untill you start getting good traffic. You can setup wordpress and WooCommerce your own. There are plenty on tutorials available.
Yes, You can create one. Though you still need to pay for domain and hosting only.
I wish more people realized this. Woo commerce digs very deep in your wallet if you are unable to do custom work yourself. It can cost up to $200 for the simplest QOL.
I’ve been building e-commerce sites with woocommerce for God I can’t tell you how long. Never heard of this issue.

wordpress + woocommerce
That’s Wordpress.com.
You’re looking for Wordpress.org
Hi,
I googled, and honestly I'm lost. haha.

This is the type of website I would like to create.
So I want to create a website.
The website have a list of content.
All of the content , you need to pay to get access to it.
The visitor would browse a catalog of content.
Each content will have a preview image of what the content is about.
In order to view or get access to the content, you need to
first, sign up an account.
Then click like a 'buy' button.
This will take the visitor to some ecommerce portal? to go through payment.
After payment goes through, then the user or that account would have access to the content.

I'm sure this have been done.
Just wondering, is there a guide/resource/plug-ins/youtube videos that teaches how to do something like the above.
And any other suggestions, tips, or advice are appreciative as well.
You're looking for Restricted Content. There's plenty of plugins that have such a feature.
Found this post that might help you out: https://wplift.com/plugins-to-restrict-content
I am going to start my job search soon and have started to think about how I can use AI to help me with my material.
I was thinking of using it for getting a first draft for everything, but I wonder if there’s another part of my process that I could be using it for?
What have you used AI for in your job search? What tools did you use and what was helpful / not very helpful?
I was updating my CV due to one research project I was appying at I used AI mostly as a sprarring partner and for feedbacking but explicitly prompting it to be critical, argument antagonist so it stops saying what I want it to hear.
Ooh, that’s a good idea. Thanks!!!
