Creating custom LEGO minifigures can be a fun and creative process, allowing you to design unique figures tailored to your preferences. Here are some steps and resources to help you get started:
LEGO's Build a Minifigure Service
LEGO offers an online service called Build a Minifigure, which allows you to select from various parts to create your own minifigure [1:1]. This service provides a straightforward way to customize figures using official LEGO components.
Using Bricklink Studio and Part Designer
Bricklink Studio is a powerful tool for designing custom LEGO models, including minifigures. To create custom designs, you can use the Part Designer app, which comes with a minifigure template [2:1]. For creating detailed designs, vector-based software like Inkscape or Canva is recommended over pixel-based software like GIMP
[2:2]. These programs allow you to create high-resolution images with transparent backgrounds that can be applied to minifigure parts.
Third-Party Custom Minifigure Services
There are several third-party companies that specialize in custom LEGO minifigures. In the US, Citizen Brick and The Minifig Co. offer custom-designed minifigures and printed tiles [3:1]
[3:2]. Bricksanity in the UK also provides unique designs, including figures not available in official LEGO sets
[3:2]. These companies use authentic LEGO products and print their own designs, and some may offer custom orders based on your designs.
Designing and Printing Decals
For those interested in designing decals for LEGO minifigures, programs like Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator can be used to create custom torso designs [5:2]
[5:3]. Once designed, these decals can be printed onto stickers or directly onto minifigure parts through services like minifigs.me
[5:2].
Additional Resources
For more detailed guidance on minifigure customization, the Eurobricks forum provides a comprehensive index and guidelines on minifigure customization [5:1]. This resource includes tips and techniques for creating and applying custom designs to LEGO minifigures.
By exploring these options, you can create custom LEGO minifigures that reflect your creativity and personal style. Whether using official LEGO services or third-party printers, there are numerous ways to bring your unique minifigure designs to life.
On their website, I see there's a pick a brick option. But there's SO MANY things. I feel like I would order the wrong parts or something. Does anyone know if they have a in person service for this?
You could give Build a Minifigure a try
Hi, I was looking to design custom minifigures for a few different projects I want to work on, but I can't seem to find many great resources for it online. I gather I have to use the partdesigner app to add the designs to a figure, and gimp to create said designs, but I don't really know the exact shape/size I need, or how to make the face look right.
Does anyone have any templates that I can use to help the process? Or any general advice? Thanks!
If you only want to do minifigs, you're lucky, those are relatively painless.
You also don't need a template, you can just use an image of a regular torso (for example) as an outline, I think.
Step 1: Create the image. You don't need gimp, any image editing software will do. I'd personally really recommend a vector based software (instead of a pixel based one like gimp) so maybe something like inkscape or canva would be better. Both are free as well. Make sure to export with transparent background and in a reasonably high resolution- you don't want to have your figures all pixelated.
Step 2: Import the image. When you open part designer, there should already be a preset for minifigs. You don't have to use it, but I'd recommend it. Here, you can click on the part you want to decorate and add the image you've exported. I think you can also scale it, which would make the template obsolete. If you can't, it's mostly a matter of trial and error to get the size just right.
Step 3: export the part to studio. There, you can find it in the "custom" palette.
Done. :)
Thank you!
Part Designer comes with a minifig template:

What. They used my minifig decal without asking.
Which one? 👀
Unfortunately The image shown doesn't show how the proportions for the arms, or how they would line up.
That's what the preview is for.
Anyone know of a website or a good place to find custom LEGO mini figures ?
What exactly are you looking for? Custom as in you get to create your own? Or custom as in they make their own designs and you can buy them?
In the US I really like Citizen Brick and The Minifig Co. I also like Bricksanity over in the UK. There are a bunch out there, though, those are just the three I have bought from and am big fans of. They use authentic Lego products and print their own designs. They will also do custom orders of your own design, but I have never done that, but I know those aren't one-offs, they are large orders.
Custom as in they make their own design yea preferably in the u.s
The two I mentioned are really cool. Minifig Co. seems to make more military than anything, but Citizen Brick makes a lot of pop culture, as well as military and zombies. They also have some really great printed tiles. I was hesitant to order overseas but Bricksanity makes some awesome figures, including a few Lego Movie 2 figures which Lego unfortunately did not create for sets. I have been very happy with Bricksanity.
I get good results using Google.
I'm looking to design and create my own LEGO minifigure. I mostly want to design the torso to meet some specific details, and I've heard about websites that do this for you. I've looked at some of them, but they aren't really what I expected. Is there another way I can design and create my own LEGO minifigure?
Minifig decals are drawn by artists on programs like Photoshop. No website can replace an image drawn by a proffesional.
To be honest I am not entirely sure what are your expectations. What are you specifically looking for?
Maybe a 3rd party printer to make a full fig?
Yeah, that's exactly it. Is there a website that can do this?
Hey all I was just wondering how do you make decals for lego minifigures such as designs for them I've been looking everywhere and don't know exactly where to start but any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you
I used inkscape (it's similar to adobe illustrator, but free) to design the torsoes (complete beginner) and then minifigs.me to have them printed (5£ each). The results are here. If you have more questions or want more specific info you can dm me or ask here
I've just dmed you thanks man!
You could use Illustrator or another similar program. Then get them printed on a sticker. It might be pretty expensive though.
Yeah that's the only problem would be getting them printed onto the figure, thanks for the help tho!
Oh, ok. I thought you wanted stickers.
Check out this thread which is loaded with all the info you need.
I need some custom lego minifigures for a cheap price...
I tried minifigs.me but it costs 110$ in my currency.
Where can i get it at the lowest price?
ebay i assume. that’s where i got mine.
edit,, i think you’re probably talking about create a minifig aren’t you? or are you talking about custom tony stark etc
Thanks.. but i mean custom minifigs like ones with custom text and stuff like that..
thanks for the reply!
Flagship lego stores have (or will come out with) machines that you can print your own mini fig that’s customizable. I remember seeing it on the what’s coming up lego this year live stream they did. I don’t know what stores have it though. Do a search on you tube for
#LEGOMinifigureFactory #LEGO
I made my own LEGO Minifigure at the LEGO Store!
And a video comes up with some guy doing their own video on the process.
Thanks a lot but sadly where i live there are no lego stores!!!
I order most stuff online.
Thank you so much for the reply!
Good luck. Maybe on a vacation at some point or maybe someone who lives near one might help you out. It’s gotta be cheaper then 110 for someone’s time to do that and ship it to you. I would if I had one near me.
Edit. Apparently it’s only in a few places. “
This unique experience is available in LEGO Stores in Berlin, Orlando and Amsterdam, and now also in LEGO House, Billund.”
Im looking for some form of software or site with a wide arange of minifigure parts to make my friends. Can anyone help?
Reminds me of Big Bang Theory episode where they bought a 3D printer to make action figures of themselves.
And then the figures are super racist 😂
Lol Bricklink has every part. Go there it is amazing.
Figure out which minifig parts best represent your friends and use bricklink.com to order parts.
I recently got back into collecting Lego mainly because of the big D&D set and the collectible minifigures and now want to make more of my original characters on Lego form. Especially after seeing the great things people post here both characters and weapons wise
I’m wondering, what are good ways to get pieces more en masse. Like I know I could order very specific parts via Bricklink but I’m also looking to just bulk up my reserve of parts.
Either way any advice would be neat
You can order parts off pick a brick on lego's website or you can check the pab wall at lego stores.
Here's what I do. I have wishlists of very specific parts I really want to make specific characters with. I have other wishlists of more generic/general parts that I didn't have a strong idea exactly what character I want make with them. If one of the specific parts is rare or pricey I'll check shops selling that part for the best prices, and I'll usually order from the shop that has the most parts available from the other list.
The build a Minifigure towers at LEGO stores often have good parts. Used LEGO stores like Bricks and Minifigs. Maybe yard sales or eBay.
are you a Lego purist cause alt bricks/knock offs are the most affordable.
quality varies but if you just need 10 hench.msn with swords, might be an option.
Bricklink and pick a brick is a great place to get pieces individual pieces that you'll need especially if you already know what you want. If you're looking to get stuff in mass, which is what I prefer as well, you should look for places that sell bulk Lego parts. Stores like bricks and minifigs sometimes have a really good selection of parts in their bulk area. If you don't wanna spend the time looking then I would just purchase some bulk lots on Facebook marketplace. You'd be surprised what you could find in there and if you're lucky you can hit the jackpot and find a collection that's full of minifigs and accessories. I source most of my used Lego this way.
This subreddit, and the many regular posters on here (including myself) make a lot of different types of DND related minfiigs or builds, so it's a great place to get some inspiration for your minifigs. Good luck finding what you need!
Does anyone know the most reliable PAD printer used to make custom lego minifigures? I want to make my own but don't know what machine to purchase for this. I also want to make my own because people don't make some figures that don't exist in real life, only in the games.
Inkcups makes very good machines
How much do they cost?
I want to make a minifig using official pieces, and most of the sites I've checked out are very limited. Please help!
Bricklink.
You’ll end up paying a lot for shipping and to meet minimums, but that’s where to go.
If you figure out how to use the wishlist feature you can find shops that have more than one piece you’re looking for.

How to create custom LEGO minifigures
Here are some key considerations for creating custom LEGO minifigures:
Choose a Base Figure: Start with a standard LEGO minifigure as your base. This will give you a solid foundation to customize.
Select Parts: Gather various LEGO pieces, including heads, torsos, legs, and accessories. You can mix and match from different sets or purchase individual parts online from sites like BrickLink or LEGO's Pick a Brick.
Design Custom Prints: If you want unique designs, consider using custom printing services. You can design your own graphics for the torso or head and have them printed on LEGO-compatible pieces.
Use Stickers or Decals: For simpler customization, you can create or buy stickers or decals to apply to the minifigure's torso or accessories.
Paint or Modify Parts: If you're comfortable with it, you can paint or modify existing LEGO pieces. Use acrylic paint for durability, and seal with a clear coat to protect your design.
Accessories and Props: Enhance your custom minifigure with unique accessories or props that fit the character you're creating. This could include weapons, tools, or themed items.
Display or Use in Builds: Once your custom minifigure is complete, you can display it or incorporate it into your LEGO builds for storytelling or play.
Recommendation: If you're serious about custom minifigures, consider investing in a LEGO minifigure design software or app that allows you to visualize your designs before you create them. This can help streamline the process and ensure you get the look you want!
