Understanding the Requirements
To marry Sebastian, you need to reach 10 hearts of friendship with him. This process involves giving him gifts he loves or likes and interacting with him regularly. You can start by giving him a bouquet at 8 hearts to unlock the ability to propose marriage [2:1]. Additionally, you must upgrade your farmhouse at least once and have access to the Tide Pool area of the Beach, where you can purchase the Mermaid's Pendant on a rainy day to propose
[2:1].
Gifts and Friendship Points
Sebastian appreciates specific gifts that can help increase your friendship points quickly. Loved gifts include Frozen Tears, Sashimi, Obsidian, Pumpkin Soup, and Void Eggs. Liked gifts are Quartz and other universally liked items [3:2]. Giving these gifts on his birthday (Winter 10) will grant you extra friendship points, making it easier to reach the required heart level
[3:1].
Daily Interactions and Quests
Talking to Sebastian daily and completing any quests he posts on the bulletin board can also boost your friendship level [3:2]. Since he spends a lot of time in his room, it might be challenging to find him initially, but persistence pays off.
Considerations Before Marriage
Before deciding to marry Sebastian, consider looking at his marriage dialogue, the room he adds to your house, and his 14-heart event on the Stardew Wiki. Some players have chosen to divorce him due to certain aspects of his post-marriage behavior [1:1]. However, many players find him charming and enjoy the experience of marrying him
[5:2].
Post-Marriage Experience
After marriage, Sebastian moves into your farmhouse and continues to interact with you daily. Some players have found mods that enhance the post-marriage experience by adding new events and dialogues [4:2]. If you're playing on platforms that support mods, this could enrich your gameplay.
Hi, I just started playing and found out I can marry the townspeople. I'd love to marry Sebastian. Any tips to help me do that? Maybe another husband recommendation? Haha.
Yes. Just go to the Stardew Wiki. Which I’ll link.
It will show you his loved/liked items. Avoid the heart events tab to avoid spoilers though. Stardew Wiki
Thank you so much! How true is it that I should choose my husband carefully, since it could result in divorce? Haha. I wouldn't want to get divorced so soon. I appreciate the help.
Sebastian is actually a fan favorite 😂. Though there are some problems he has which I’ll let you learn yourself.
Have fun. The first play through and choosing your spouse is a very neat experience.
If you really, really want to make sure you definitely want to marry him, look at his marriage dialogue, the room he adds onto your house, and his 14 heart event on his wiki page. These are all reasons I've seen people get divorced in this game. With Sebastian in particular, I've seen several people choose to divorce him over his marriage dialogue.
Also, talking to people will help increase friendship, gifting on their birthday gives extra points, and completing any of their delivery requests from the bulletin board gives points.
(Side note: Some people try to insist certain bachelor/ettes help out more around the farm than others, this is not true. Every spouse has the same chance to help out with the same random tasks every day. How much they do or do not help is purely rng. The only differences between them are dialogue, the room they add to the house, their 14 heart events, and their little outdoor space.)
how long till i can get married??? i’m trying to win sebastian over
8 hearts, bouquet, upgrade house, 10 hearts, rainy day, bridge to tide pools, >!mermaid pendant!<, give to boo, wait 3 days, ta-dah!
The wiki has the requirements for marriage.
> Before proposing marriage, you need to earn 10 hearts of friendship with your intended partner, which requires you to give them a bouquet (at 8 hearts of friendship). You will also need to upgrade the farmhouse at least once and have access to the Tide Pool area of the Beach.
Basically, it takes as long as it takes you to fulfill those requirements, although after upgrading your house and getting to 10 hearts, you’ll need to wait for a rainy day to go to the tide pools to get something important.
I don't even know how I did it, but I romanced Sebastian and I am marrying him in spring year one.
I haven't even got Sebastian to 1 star yet and I've nearly at the same point - did you give him a frozen tear on his birthday or something? I can barely find him and can't afford any of his loved gifts.
It's incredible - I don't think I've seen anyone get to marriage (maybe excepting Haley) so quickly.
His birthday is in winter. I talked to him literally everyday (although I had to go out of my way to do so) and gifted him quartz until I finally reached the iced part of the cave and began to give him frozen tears. Also, I was really lucky and he posted some quests: completing them gave me more friendship with him. The hardest part was to get the money for the house and the Mermaid's pendant
Ah, that makes sense. I didn't realise liked gifts could impress a person so much so quickly, but I'm running around trying to win over everyone so my focus is pretty split. Once you get a bit further down in the mines he becomes a lot easier to impress, from memory - void essences and void eggs too, I think?
Great work!
My irl husband knew I was going to marry Sebastian even before I did. Something about the introverted guy who plays dnd but is super sweet when you know him. I guess I have a type.
...
This is my first play through. I didnt have the greenhouse by my first winter, so I was spending more time with the npcs. Sebastian spends so much time in his room it was hard to get to know him. I remember waiting outside his bedroom door all day on his birthday.
Then I got my first cutscene and found out he is working on his computer all day. I felt so bad that nobody respects his job, so I never bothered him while he was working. I would literally sit on the couch in his room just chilling until he took a break.
I spent the next year and a half getting to know him. I liked his dialogue, how much you can learn about his family dynamic and how he dreams of moving to the big city. Its cool to see him playing music with Sam, or teasing that he will beat him at pool.
The ttrpg cut scene cemented that I wanted to be friends/more with this guy. I had a lot of fun.
Then came the first time he carelessly said something that broke my heart. We ran into each other on the beach, it was raining. It was awkward and adorable and when we shared the umbrella, I decided I wanted to romance him. Then I spoke to him after the event ended. "The ocean is best enjoyed alone, dont you think?"
I was a little upset, but then the next day he said "why am I grinning? I guess I've been unusually happy lately" and I melted again.
I decided to give him a boquet on the last day of summer. That way we'd be dating in the fall when its beautiful and it seems to be his favorite season. Plus the dance of the moonlight jellies is the most romantic festival.
Then he took me out to look at the city. It was a nice gesture but I couldnt help but realize that being with me was the opposite of what he'd always wanted. I live on a farm, which he used to say would be ridiculous for someone like him. He yearns for the world outside of stardew valley.
I ignored the warning signs. I thought it would be fine. He did seem like he was happier these days. Happy with me. So I proposed on his birthday, and he said "in a couple days I'll be living on a farm. I cant believe it. I'm happy, though"
After our wedding, he immediately starts talking about "cant forget about the farm" and it feels wrong. One morning, he says "I couldnt sleep last night so I went for a ride on the motorcycle. I need to stay independant, even though we're married. Thats just how I am. I still love you, though" there it was again. "Though" tacked on at the end. It felt like he was trying to damage control letting his true feelings show. The last sentence sounded like a lie, but I dont think its malicious. I think he was lying to himself thinking he'd ever be happy here.
Another one that stood out to me was "well, this place sure beats my old basement room, doesnt it" it felt like an acknowledgment that he was settling. Its not zuzu city, but its something.
Some days he says he fed the animals or watered the crops. All my animals have auto feeders and all my crops have sprinklers. I wonder what hes hiding.
I talked to him in his side room and he said hes debating whether to work or read comics all day. I take a look around and realize he never even brought his computer. He could have kept his job, but he gave it up for the farm.
I start imagining a world where we break up and he moves to the city. I'd probably still see him around town when he visits Robin.
But then he says the sweetest things too. "Never forget that I love you" "you look great today" but sometimes I hear a spark of regret behind "I don't really need friends. Youre the only person I need in my life"
On the day before the egg festival, he said he was looking forward to seeing Sam. We dont even live that far outside of town and hes completely isolated himself. It hurts every time he says he is happier with me around because every other part of our life together feels wrong. He can be so kind and romantic, but it just makes me feel guiltier.
Now, all he says is "why do you keep bothering me? I'm trying to forget about you"
there’s actually a great mod i love that makes sebastian living on the farm a lot more natural, it adds a bunch of post marriage events
edit: it’s Mal’s Seb extension mod with post marriage events on nexus mods!
drop a link for a girl, would you? i finally caved and decided dark-haired dork is my type (in game and real life, lmao...)
I play on switch 😭
I married him and one day he says, “I’m a little busy right now can we talk about your day later?” ….new save file and it’s gonna be between Shane, Elliot or Krobus.
oh but Harvey is such a sweetheart!!
Sebastian honestly thrives on the farm though as he's finally treated correctly and respected. He only wanted to leave the valley because his step-dad treats him like garbage and its obvious Maru is the favorite, not to mention he got thrown to live in a basement in his home.
Oh I love story time. I found that to be a surprisingly captivating story, thank you.
I feel very similar about being married to Sebastian but we're staying together for the kids
Do u like birds?
Well, you can do something about those, but it’ll cost you…
Today I decided to tell Sebastian I have romanic feelings for him after I got 8 hearts with him in the game. Reason why I'm going for Sebastian you may ask? Because he reminds me of my IRL fiance, and I thought it'd be cute if I married a version of him in the game 💕
I told my fiance about my love for Sebastian because he reminds me of him, and let's just say he was VERY flattered by this, and also thought it was adorable.
I took some screenshots of what I was doing so that I could text them to said fiance while he was at work, cause I know he'd love to see what I was doing.
After I told Sebastian my feelings, since it was raining in game, I decided to do some fishing next to his house lol. So overall, great day on Stardew :3
Yay! He’s an amazing husband.
Congrats! I find it charming that you integrated fishing into this romantic story to round off a perfect day with some contemplative activity. :)
Hey. Thats MY MAN.
You ruined his dreams of getting on a motorcycle and riding off into the sunset.

Am I missing something?
I reached 14 hearth with him, he receives a present every day, I talk to him 3 times a day, I also have a crib.
The only kid we have is a frog.
If you maintain at least 10 hearts, own the crib, and have been married for at least 7 days, there's a 5% chance each day of your spouse asking. Unfortunately, it's not impossible that you could go multiple years without being asked. Sometimes the rng gods are simply cruel and you just have to keep waiting.
Have you upgraded your house to include a nursery?
I did, in-game it was a year ago
That Sebastian is a hard nut to crack. Unfortunately, babies are randomized. I really wish we as the farmer had more control over when we had kids. Anecdotally, some people have had luck by going to bed the same time as their spouses- around 10.
Are you running any mods?
I don't. But literally he just asked me about having kids. Like he knew I created this thread!
Before I got the game I was sure in my soul that I would romance Sebastian. When I got the game I began doing just that but you see, it was taking too long and I somehow managed to get to 8 heart with 2 other characters one of them being Sam, and Sam… he grew on me. Something about his heart scenes or his silly little portraits got to me. I ended up giving him a bouquet spontaneously because at that point stubborn bum bum Sebastian was still at 6 heart even though I was borderline stalking him and religiously shoving quarts in his face twice a week. Sam’s 10 heart event was the first time my goal of marrying Sebastian has waivered because?? It’s so cute?? Oh my god?? im now at 10 hearts with both of them and Sebastian’s scene was cute, but no matter how much I might not want to admit it, I might have liked Sam’s more argh… idk I still adore Sebastian and every time I see him waddling around in his little winter outfit I’m reminded of why I wanted to wife him up. I really don’t know which one I want more ugh but either way it’s winter now so I have until the end of the season to decide. Smone please try away me to a solid side 🙏🙏
From what you say, you do already know pretty well what you want to do tbh. You just haven't let go of the idea of marrying Sebastian yet, even though you ended up liking Sam more.
I get that Seb is all dreamy sad emo boi and all that, but if you like Sam more, let your farmer marry him and live their best sunny life. ;) Sam is such a ray of sunshine as a spouse, and his 14 hearts event is one of the sweetest of the lot, very worth seeing if you've been enjoying his cutscenes so far. Sebastian will always stay around as both one of your and Sam's best friends in the end.
Also very cute art, by the way! They both look adorable.
Alright alright your comment has forcibly made up my mind… Sam it is :3 I feel content with that choice and yeah, you’re right, it really is the idea of Sebastian that I was drawn to and got really stuck up on. I can be very stubborn and it’s showing here- not wanting to go back on any decisions I made previously no matter how small, it’s that stupid pride in me. Anyways, thanks for the help))
Okay but please be aware Sebastian spoiler >!sets up a frog sanctuary as his 14 heart event 😭!<
Agreed, Sam isn't my favourite spouse, but his 14 heart is the best (Elliott a close second).
It's almost like real life dating advice.
who could have predicted that a farming game could end up helping you with this?
Marrying seb was such a disappointment after elliot being my go to for every save Romance is none existent and hes so distant all the time asking for space sometimes not coming home for the night, the only thing making me doubt divorce is the frogs
If you have mastery you can have frogs of your own - >!the combat mastery allows you to find trinkets including frog eggs. You can either have one follow you around eating monsters, or you can put the eggs in tanks and have frogs hopping around. or both, you'll probably get a few froggies.!<
Divorce and go back to Elliot if you want!
it always makes me giggle when ppl complain about how boring/bad penny and elliott are despite the fact that they're arguably the best spouses
I couldn't decide between Sebastion and Elliot so I got a poly mod.
Hi krobus
I always marry sebastian. he's so cute. and I love frogs so basically he's perfect
My mom is playing Stardew, and Sebastian, her characters spouse, isn't asking for a kid. She has the nursery, has viewed ALL of Sebastian's heart events, including his 14 heart one, and she's been married to him for over a year. Anything she's doing wrong? I got her into the game and even I'm stumped. I had no problems with it on one of my playthroughs.
Has she been going to bed before him? Also sometimes people just get unlucky, it's 1/20 chance the spouse asks, so sometimes it's just not the day lol
She tends to go to bed after him
Alright, the question is from what I remember from when Abigail asked me, is triggered only if the player character goes to bed before the npc does, I hope that all works out for your mom!
I asked him right in front of Abigail, her only concern was that Pierre was cooking dinner that night
(the next day she revealed that Pierre fed them sap)
Wow you guys really know how to play this game... I purposed to Harvey in his clinic...😅
man all i did to propose was give shane a beer at the saloon
I wait it out joja on his birthday and give it to him with pepper poppers
This is adorable I just waited in front of Elliot’s house until it opened
Asked him right after getting the pendant Pride and prejudice style! 😎
“911 there’s a psycho farmer standing at my door at 8:32AM threatening me with marriage”
I love when people use their creativity to do cool things in the game. Much better than how I proposed.
I waited until he was on the docks on a rainy day to propose. That's our spot. 🥰
I did that too!! Seemed like a surefire way to get him to say yes
I proposed to Leah in the aisle at Pierre's.
this is so adorable. i walked into his house the day after i kicked krobus out and proposed while he was working. after giving him some year old sashimi. i was still mourning the loss of krobus/regretting my decision. i don’t know how long this marriage will last </3 my heart belongs to the sewer
I love sebastian so much. He is an angel.
He’s the one I always end up marrying because he’s such a sweetie pie.
Same! I've got 9 save games now and I've married him in every single one. He's hands down my favorite <3
The only save i havent married him on is the co op i play with my irl boyfriend, because really seb is the only choice
That's so much sweeter than my husband Harvey who just slaps me with a medical bill
Best husband ever.
