TL;DR
Suede Shoes
For suede shoes, using an eraser combined with a soft but firm bristle brush can help remove scuff marks [1:1]. A toothbrush can also be used for spot cleaning, though brushes specifically designed for suede are recommended for thorough cleaning
[5:5].
Patent Leather Shoes
Patent leather requires careful handling. Acetone applied with a q-tip or wipes can effectively remove scuffs [5:1]. Alternatively, petroleum jelly (Vaseline) is suggested as a gentle method for removing scuff marks from patent leather
[5:4].
Synthetic Materials
For synthetic materials, caution is advised as some methods might damage the surface. Magic erasers can be effective but should be tested on a small area first due to their abrasive nature [3:2]
[3:7]. Nail polish remover can also be used sparingly on synthetic surfaces
[3:3].
General Tips
Liquid fabric softener diluted with water can be used for various surfaces including shoes, providing a versatile cleaning solution that doubles as an air freshener [2:2]. For shoes made of leather or similar materials, saddle soap followed by matching shoe polish can improve the appearance after cleaning
[4:2].
Recommendations Beyond Discussions
While these methods have been shared by users, always ensure to test any cleaning product on a small, inconspicuous area of your shoes first to prevent potential damage. Additionally, consider professional cleaning services if the shoes are particularly valuable or delicate.
Use an eraser and a soft but firm bristle brush. Buy they are never going to totally disappear.
Try liquid fabric softener diluted with water. I use that in a spray bottle for my walls, doors, baseboards, etc. With a microfiber towel. It takes off scuff marks, pencil/crayon marks, dirt of just about any kind. Also it doubles as a air freshener. I spray it on furniture, carpets, curtains, clothes hanging in closets, car interior, etc. Good Luck!
Maybe goo be gone. Best of luck.

If this is patent leather, alcohol and a q tip. I learned this from a shoe restoration channel and it works like a charm. Magic eraser is abrasive and could take away the shine, so I’d do a patch test first if you do that.
Nail polish remover. Tiny dab on a paper towel or rag.
Might melt the plastic if the shoes are synthetic
I only had cheap payless shoes for years and that is how I, and all the other people I knew in the same situation, got the scuffs off ours.
This is for some reason a very artistic photograph
I used magic eraser very gently on what looks to be a similar vinyl/patent and it worked
Toothpaste and a white cloth.
Magic eraser
Get some brown shoe Polish (probably try to match colour) and it’ll help with the look
You can probably also use saddle soap in these to clean them first, stuff with paper or something to shape while doing that.
Get a new pair, you’ll always see it and it’ll bother the shit outa you

it looks like something has been applied to it already which appears to be too light and the wrong texture. But in general the shoes appear to need to be cleaned and brushed. and some neutral venetian shoe cream might help with whatever that is.
Specifically I'm trying to figure out how to get scuff marks off of patent leather shoes. I've heard of the eraser trick, but that's not working for me.
If you clicked here looking for tips I won't disappoint you:
-Magic eraser for white soles, and fabric insole tags (such as Steve Madden labels, I did that on a whim and it worked like magic)
-Use vinegar (& brush) for spots on suede, vinegar dries without staining
Garmet cleaning tips:
Nail polish remover for marker marks on clothes, this one surprised me at how well it worked & that it didn't ruin the fabric at all
Turpinoid for paint splatters : use this one with caution, not compatible with some fabrics, but try it out before you toss a paint splattered peice away or in the donate bin.
There are probably more... actually I know there are, but that's all I can think of right now. What do you have to add? And yes, if you have a patent leather tip please let me know!

For patent leather, use petroleum jelly (Vaseline).
I've never heard of using Vaseline for scuffs, thanks! I'll give it a try
Rubbing alcohol to remove marker prices from soles of shoes.
Toothbrushes are good for spot cleaning suede but if you want to brush the entire shoe or boot, I recommend a brush made for cleaning cast iron skillets. Lodge makes a good one. It's about the size of a hairbrush but the bristles are stiffer. Works like a charm and won't cause damage. https://www.scheels.com/p/lodge-10-scrub-brush/07553605006.html?src=google_shipping_test&gclid=CjwKCAjwxLH3BRApEiwAqX9arc10Erc_LY_pX9cjUpU3Si1605RgyrIbk62P6HVjKV2l9XB4318KzBoCTDQQAvD_BwE
Rub a black sock over any deodorant and it will come off clothing. I don't know why this works but we did it at the retail store I worked at and I promise it works.
When I worked in retail the alterations department told us to use the inner side of the material to rub small deodorant marks off. I accidentally did it in front of a customer and she was appalled lol which in hindsight, yeah.. I just moved the deodorant from the outside to the inside.
Acetone will take scuffs off patent leather... I use the wipes, but you could use liquid on a qtip- just be sure not to use too much. It seems illogical, but it works like a charm!
This worked magic. Thank you very much!
Neutral heel spray
Magic eraser
Rub a peeled banana on it for a couple of minutes.
What have you tried so far?
Just tried cleaning them hoping it was dirt or salt like someone else suggested, but they are indeed scuff marks.
Try covering it up with things like polish or dyes or smth.
Sorry if this isn’t the right place for this but I scuffed my brand new trainers by tripping over and twisting my ankle 😩
Any tips on how to clean them without making them worse?
Angelus suede brush and eraser and you’ll be looking brand new!
Thanks a mill
they’re great to have around for any shoes with suede on them, but love those Vomero Plum Eclipses!
Surprisingly I’ve found that coconut water (roughly 20%) and regular water(80*) are the only ingredients in my shoe cleaner. Mix that and scrub with a soft toothbrush?
Thank you thank you
Accidentally scuffed up a relatively new pair of boots and can’t seem to mend it ): is it possible to fix it even a little since it’s right at the toe? The boots are faux leather
Try a pencil eraser. It’s worked for me before.
I’m not sure if this is a scuff or not but i just found it in my shoe and im so sad because they are quite nice. I’ll probably take them to a cobbler for some advice but thought i would try and crowd source some ideas on how to get rid of it first. It wont rub off no matter what :( thank you in advance
If u go with your finger trough the damage u will feel if it’s a scuff but if u want remove the red Color try water and a magic sponge 🧽 that helps u have this normally in every shoe store for sneakers to make them white again
Thank you so much I just tried it and it’s definitely not a scuff then. I will try the magic eraser:)
Also go over the stain lightly with the magic eraser. Otherwise it will take the color off the shoe as well.
I’ve had success with white pencils erasers
Magic eraser
Toothpaste
Thanks for the tips! I got it off using some alcohol wipes but it left a tiny smudge only noticeable if you look really close :p
Maybe leather cleaner
Magic eraser? 🤷🏾♂️
This. Try a magic eraser. If not, like has been suggested, just paint it. Doesn't look like it's scratched so you should be good.
Black shoe polish if nothing else works
Old school way might just work
lick em
