TL;DR Yes, Hogwarts Legacy is available on the Nintendo Switch, but opinions vary on its performance and gameplay quality compared to other platforms.
Availability and Performance
Hogwarts Legacy is indeed available on the Nintendo Switch. However, users have mixed reviews regarding its performance on this platform. Some players enjoyed the game despite the graphical downgrade [3:2]
[3:3], while others found the loading times and stuttering issues to be problematic
[5:2]. The consensus seems to be that while the game is playable on the Switch, it doesn't match the experience offered by more powerful consoles like the PS5
[5:5].
Graphics and Gameplay Experience
The graphics and gameplay experience on the Switch are considered inferior compared to platforms like Xbox Series S and PS5. Players have noted that the game runs at a lower frame rate, which can affect the overall enjoyment [3:9]
[5:6]. For those who don't have a comparison, the game might still be enjoyable
[3:11].
Switch vs. Switch 2
There is interest in whether the game will perform better on the anticipated Switch 2. While there isn't definitive information about the Switch 2 version yet, some users are considering waiting for potential upgrades before purchasing [4]. If you're planning to upgrade to the Switch 2, it might be worth considering how much of an improvement the new hardware could offer.
Recommendation
If you only have access to a Nintendo Switch and are eager to play Hogwarts Legacy, it may still be worth picking up, especially if you find it on sale [4:1]. However, if you have access to other gaming platforms, you might want to consider playing it elsewhere for a better experience
[5:4].
Should just drop all 14 games day 1. There milking the 10 people who wanna play these games by drip feeding em. I see we’re the sentiment of Nintendo fanboys eating everything up comes from
Yeah seriously, if you're going to make it necessary to buy accessories to even play these games, they should all be there from the beginning.
Heck I'm not even sure why this is an NSO release if it's going to be locked for 95% of subscribers. Just slap all the games on the cart, bundle it with the accessories and sell it as its own thing.
Especially since only one or two of them are actually worth playing beyond 10 minutes.
I like the idea of Virtual Boy games on NSO, but making the accessory REQUIRED to play it is just a dumb move. A crying shame, I would have loved to give VB games a try.
The cardboard version will probably work just fine to play the games, and there will probably be versions of this made at home. The biggest thing is holding it against your head, not any special lens or something.
Still my issue. I dont want to hold it against my head. I want to play it on my TV.
Imagine it was required to own the classic controllers to play their console? Like you need the NES controller to play NES games. It would be a stupid decision.
Not letting you play these in a 2d mode without the purchase of the stand alone unit is baffling to me.
It’s even weirder because they showcased them in 2D and it’s clearly working fine lol
Hope there’s an option down the line when all games released or something
the immersion tho?
Same. I never go to try one and I've been curious for 30 years now!
I'm so angry but just take my money!
I thought it was April Fool’s 😅
The LEGO Group and Annapurna Interactive have announced that the followup to the well-received LEGO Builder's Journey, which is titled LEGO Voyagers, will be getting a Nintendo Switch 2 version, and you haven't got long to wait until you can play it. LEGO Voyagers comes to both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on 15th September. If you are curious about the game here's all the details:
'From the makers of LEGO Builder's Journey comes a new 2-player co-op adventure about friendship and play. When two friends make it their mission to rescue an abandoned spaceship, they embark on a journey beyond their wildest dreams, ultimately learning the value of being connected.'
Check out the trailer: https://youtu.be/NOZL-5pC8WM
Wait wait wait. Annapurna Interactive?? Damn I need to grab this game if it's published by that mob. Everything they put out is amazing.
I have been wanting to play this game for forever. But I don’t have a console other than the nintendo switch and am not planning to upgrade to the switch 2 anytime soon. Is playing Hogwarts Legacy worth it on the original switch or is it a skip?
I’ve only played on the switch and love it.
I agree with this! As long as you don't have the comparison it's great.
I played it on my switch and I loved it . It's definitely a downgrade in the quality of graphics, but I would buy it again
Do you have the base game or the deluxe? Now, I’m debating which I should get.
I got it on sale so I got the deluxe version. Would recommend getting the deluxe version myself
It is worth it.
Do you have the base game or the deluxe?
I got the deluxe, it's just an outfit, thestral and fighting arenas, but dammit if I don't ROCK that dark wizard/witch look
I'm playing this one on my Oled and i love it. On this moment, i'ts my favorite game. Easy talking for me. Mostly gaming on the xbox 360 and my New 3DS XL. It's an upgrade for me.
Thanks for the input. I have a regular switch but a pretty nice samsung tv I use to play. I mean I’m pretty used to nintendo’s quality (or lack there of) as I am a pretty avid pokemon player.
I wouldn’t do it at 30FPS. I play it on my Xbox Series S, and I wouldn’t go for less. But some people love it!
It’s not a game to sleep on because it is straight up awesome.
That was my concern.
I really just want to live out being a Hogwarts student…
I think I’ll watch some more YouTube reviews to verify before I purchase.
With the game currently being on sale, I’m thinking about trying out the Switch version of the game. I’m also planning on picking up a Switch 2 and have been seeing people talk about the upgrade path. Does the Switch 2 version seem like a big leap over the Switch version? To those who have tried this version, would you recommend it?
Is the switch 2 version out?
The games worth picking up
I have heard that Hogwarts Legacy is an amazing game and i have also heard that it is awful on switch. So to the people that have played it on the switch, what do you think?
I gave up on the switch. Loading times are insane and it stutters a bit as I whip around. Gameplay was solid but the way it ran was too poor for me.
I played it on ps5 after the switch and the graphics and gameplay were so much better!
Its a mediocre game but even worse on switch
Not if you have literally anywhere else to play.
Pretty awful on the Switch compared to Playstation
I played it on Switch and thought it was great.
Second this
So, to start. I haven't really seen many of the Harry Potter movies. For some reason, the story of the movies just never got me much. However, the world, and the design, and the clothes, and the music, and the aesthetic of the Hogwarts and it's surrounding world has always massively captivated me. Recently i came into luck and was able to get myself a Nintendo Switch Lite,
I've been debating for the last couple of days if i want to buy Hogwarts Legacy, but I'm hesitant for a few reasons. I've heard people say it doesn't run very well on Switch, so that's one reason I'm hesitant. I'm also a little worried that since i haven't seen very many of the movies i won't be able to appreciate or properly enjoy it.
I know there's probably quite a few people here who've played it, so i wanted some HP fans thoughts. Thank you in advance for any insight provided:)
I don’t think you have to be a fan to understand or have fun with the game. It’s a completely different storyline than the books. Idk about how it plays on Switch but would love to know bc I was thinking of gifting it to someone.
It plays okay. Textures are shit sometimes and loadings are looooooong loooooong, but I finished the game in like 2-3 months and had so much fun 🤩🤩
It's really expensive for a game where the best qualities are nostalgia and graphics. Just keep that in mind.
I've heard that as well, but the deluxe edition is on sale currently for $27
I waited to purchase when the Deluxe edition was $20 (USD). The DLC included in the Deluxe edition is $20 alone. I wasn’t going to purchase at full price (I’m waiting for it to hit a sale on Steam again so I can play on PC), but I couldn’t pass up that price and I don’t regret it. I’m a fan of the books more than the movies (and this is after trying to read the first book in college and not being into it enough to continue the series - I ended up getting the Jim Dale audiobooks and have since listened to all 7 books a few times). I play on Switch Lite, the graphics probably aren’t the best, but honestly they’re not horrible (I’ve seen way worse). I’d say at that price, go for it.
You don’t need to watch or read HP to play HL
Honestly it's almost more based on Fantastic Beasts even, lol
literally!!
Agreed. I think it may add to the experience a little, but mainly for certain references or familiar names. Since it’s set 100 years before, prior knowledge isn’t required.
It runs well on Switch, the quality is just a bit lackluster. If this is something you don't care about, you will have a very good experience.
I agree. I am currently playing on my Switch Lite. Mainly because it was like $20 for both HL and the Dark Arts DLC (so both for the price of the DLC). I’m honestly now waiting for it to go on sale on Steam so I can play on PC. I had passed on getting it around Christmas when it was on sale because I didn’t think I’d play it all that much. I honestly haven’t played much else since getting it. I’m on my 4th play through (I haven’t done a 100% run yet and I still haven’t played as a Ravenclaw) and I’m still discovering new stuff 😂.
I have it on Switch, it works perfectly, the only thing is that it obviously runs at 30fps (which doesn't bother me) and it has some additional loading screens, but it is a version that is totally up to par.
Hello everyone
I would like to know your thoughts on the new nintendo switch 2's announcement where Hogwarts Legacy will be getting a NS2 edition.
Do you think they will be making an upgrade pack for the current game on NS1 or will they launch a NS2 only edition?
Hoping for an upgrade pack but really don't know what they're going to do. I'm not buying it again but would pay for an upgrade.
Hoping for the same! But no word yet other than the NS2 edition launching same day as NS2. I dont want to spend R2k on a revised edition
There will be a $10 upgrade for the original switch
I submitted a request to WB Support asking this question cause I'm also interested too, but they just said that they'll reveal more news closer to release so that leaves me to believe that there'll be no upgrade
Also kein Upgrade-Paket
I've been thinking about getting it on switch for a while, but was doubting it. I am not VERY familiar with HP universe, I've seen the films for one time when I was a child and that was all. Although, I am really fond of magical academy atmosphere.
Is Hogwarts Legacy good for experiencing romanticized magical academy experience? What about gameplay? Is it addicting, interesting? What about locations, npcs, story?
This is one of the most fun games I’ve ever played. Challenging but not impossible. Switch will limit you some but I’d say the game itself is worth it on any platform. Or… try to snag a PS5 at a deal and enjoy the full, beautiful experience.
Not worth it on Switch. My wife has it for hers and I tried to play it but the graphics makes everything look uncanny valley sometimes.
I played on Switch and really enjoyed it (except for the loading screens)
Not switch but otherwise yes.
In my opinion, Hogwarts Legacy is a digital museum. I'm a big fan of the universe so I enjoyed visiting the castle and Hogsmeade. The other places are… copies of each other.
The gameplay is pretty good, especially in combat. Casting spells is satisfying.
For history it is a great disappointment. Spending the first hours of discovery is… meh. NPCs are simple decoration, except when they give us quests. If you come across them at other times they are just there but no interactions possible. The academic aspect is almost non-existent. You can walk around Hogwarts or outside in the middle of the night without any problem (except for a particular quest). No system of morality, using unforgivable spells has no consequences, etc. Immersion is 0.
This is a moderately good game for a fan. If you're not, I'm not sure you'll like it. This is just my opinion, I know that many (fans or not) love it. I postponed my expectations of a really good game to 2 hoping for immersion. I'm a gamer so I also tend to compare them to GOTYs, which perhaps explains my disappointment. If you don't play a lot of games you might like Hogwarts Legacy.
I will tell you to wait for other opinions. But with a promotion, why not. (I play on Xbox, I heard that the visuals are less appreciable on Switch).
I’m confused as to why hogwarts legacy was an announcement help me!
It is nintindo switch 2 upgraded, from what I gather from the trailer the upgrade is seamless transitions presumably no loading screens when going to shops like on other consoles
Oh duh okay thank you
The original Switch version was nerfed considerably from a performance standpoint, particularly around animations/details within the castle and then the amount of fog in the overworld.
I never finished Hogwarts on the original switch because I couldn’t stand how glitchy it was. I am super excited about it coming to switch 2! Does anyone know if it will be a paid upgrade like BOTW and how much it’ll be?
There is a $10 upgrade going on right now if you have the digital game. You just have to buy it from the web eShop
I have the physical game, I can’t see the upgrade on my store.
Why is everyone acting like the game was just being released?
Well it's supposed to be the full game with much better graphics, the original switch release was pretty scaled back, especially graphically. But I agree, there seems to be a weird amnesia about the first. What I want to know, is will they offer and upgrade for the switch 2 version
Let's not mince words, the original Switch release was playing on potato mode. Even the animations in cutscenes were gimped because a lot of the facial-skeleton bits were just flat out disabled. The Switch version is equivalent to maybe playing the PC release with ALL of the settings dialed to absolute minimum, which is to say, it's muddy and ugly-looking and an absolute last-resort option at best, which only exists because publishers and investors would fly into a panic if they didn't have a version of any given game on Nintendo's hit system.
Hopefully they allow an upgrade for those of us who have Switch 1 versions of Hogwarts Legacy and Quidditch Champions, because both of those ports were terrible and an upgrade would be the sole saving grace.
Wasn't this game already on Switch 1? Is there something new?
Basically the Switch 1 version is a very scaled back version of the game with loading screens between areas, I think a few aspects were cut, and the graphics were downgraded from the PS5/PC/XSX version.
The Switch 2 version is just the PS5/PC/XSX version of Hogwarts, but now made portable.
But Will it cost to play it on swicth 2? I already have it on the switch... Will I have to buy it? Same with other games?
That's a very generous thinking that the Switch 2 will be anywhere near the power of PS5/XSX/PC, I guarantee it won't even reach the quality of the PS4 version of the game (or maybe just that, certainly not current gen)...
Switch 2 is less powerful than a ps4 pro and about as equal to a ps4 pro when docked. Putting switch 2 in the same sentence as ps5, xsx, pc is just a huge misinformation or over projecting on expectations on what you are getting for $450.
More likely the (still scaled back, just not as much as the Switch) PS4/Xbone version. Most of the estimates have it at about the same specs as the last gen systems from Sony and Microsoft.
the Switch 2 version will basically get the same experience as the newer consoles, so seamless transitions throughout the world, no added corridors just to hide the outside world etc.
Cool, but when's the sequel coming out?
Innovating in what way? They are the Disney of video games, nothing but sequels and remakes of the same IPS.
Is hogwarts legacy coming to nintendo switch
Key Considerations:
Release Date: "Hogwarts Legacy" was officially announced for the Nintendo Switch, with a release date set for November 14, 2023.
Performance Expectations: The Switch version may have lower graphical fidelity and performance compared to other platforms (like PS5 and Xbox Series X) due to hardware limitations.
Gameplay Experience: While the core gameplay and story should remain intact, expect potential differences in loading times and frame rates.
Pre-Order Availability: Keep an eye on pre-order options, as they may offer bonuses or discounts.
Takeaway: If you're a Nintendo Switch owner excited about "Hogwarts Legacy," mark your calendar for November 14, 2023, and be prepared for a potentially different experience compared to other consoles.
