Local Honey and Propolis Honey
Local honey is often recommended as a natural remedy for seasonal allergies due to its potential to help the body build immunity against local pollen [3:1]. The idea is that consuming honey made from local plants may gradually desensitize the immune system to those allergens. Propolis honey, which is stronger than regular honey, can also be used preemptively to bolster the immune system before allergy season begins
[3:2].
Herbal Supplements: Quercetin and Stinging Nettle
Quercetin is a flavonoid with antihistamine properties that works by blocking the H4 receptor, making it a useful supplement for managing allergies [2:1]
[5:1]. Stinging nettle is another popular herbal remedy that acts as an H1 receptor blocker and has been praised for its effectiveness in reducing allergy symptoms
[2:4]
[5:1]. Both supplements are often used in combination for more comprehensive relief.
Prebiotics and Gut Health
Improving gut health through prebiotics has been suggested as a way to manage allergies naturally [1:2]
[1:3]. The rationale is that a healthy gut microbiome can help regulate the immune response and potentially reduce allergic reactions. Some users have reported living allergy-free after incorporating prebiotics into their routine
[1:2].
Essential Oils and Herbal Teas
Tri-Ease, a blend of essential oils, has been mentioned as a helpful remedy for allergy symptoms like congestion and itchy eyes [1:1]. Additionally, herbal teas such as nettle tea are commonly used for their anti-inflammatory properties, although results can vary
[3:1].
Lifestyle Adjustments
Simple lifestyle changes can also contribute to alleviating allergy symptoms. Staying indoors during peak pollen times and using air purifiers can minimize exposure to allergens [1:4]. Sunlight exposure and maintaining a balanced diet with anti-inflammatory foods like turmeric and ginger may also support overall immune function
[4:3]
[2:6].
These remedies and practices offer alternative approaches to managing seasonal allergies without relying heavily on over-the-counter medications. However, it's important to consult with healthcare professionals before trying new supplements or making significant lifestyle changes, especially if you have underlying health conditions.
Hey there fellow allergy warriors,
I hope you're all doing well despite the dreaded allergy season that's upon us. I'm reaching out because I'm hoping for some advice.
Background:
Every year in the spring and fall, my allergies seem to hit me like a ton of bricks. Itchy eyes, sneezing fits, and a perpetually stuffy nose...it seems like it's only getting worse.
What I've Tried:
Over-the-counter antihistamines: To be honest often they don't seem to do much. Maybe Zyrtec a litle. Any specific brand recommendations or alternative options that have worked for you?
Nasal sprays/night tape: I've experimented with a couple of nasal sprays and night tape. They alleviate a little.
Natural remedies: I've dabbled in local honey and tried a lot with my homeopath, but I'm curious about other natural solutions that might have worked wonders for you.
My Questions:
So where to start....
Any alternative treatments that have helped a lot? Homeopathy, acupuncture, chiropractor?
If not, what is working among hte antihistamines?
Also, kind of curious, does anyone else think maybe their dental problems are connected to allergies?
Thank you in advance for your support and wisdom. Let's help each other conquer this allergy season! 🌼🤧
Google Prebiotics, worked for me. I live allergy free. Carpe Diem
Try a Prebiotic solution, I did, it worked. Product name Google Allerpops.com
stay home as much as possible. place a cheap air purifier in every room with a window. multiple cheap purifiers is a lot more effective than one expensive purifier.
I've used Tri-Ease from doTerra-it's a blend of essential oils for allergies. Used to get all drippy and choked up (allergic to bermuda & timothy grasses) and this helped. Not 100% but it allowed me to mow my lawn and work in the garden.
After years of dealing with brutal seasonal allergies (especially skin hives and a really thick nasal congestion that barely allows me to breathe) I’ve been using this natural supplement that gives me the real seasonal allergy relief without the side effects of traditional seasonal allergy medicine
I’ve commented about it a couple of times already, it’s called Allurtica and it’s made with natural ingredients, but unlike other natural remedies for seasonal allergies, this one actually works for ME. I’ve been taking it for a while now and my seasonal allergy symptoms have decreased by a lot!!!
Just wanted to share this since it’s allergy season an I know how miserable looking for effective seasonal allergies treatment can be, so I thought this could help someone with similar allergy symptoms I personally struggle with (skin hives, nasal congestion, itchy skin and eyes, those are mostly my symptoms)
Quercetin does help my allergies. I see it’s in that.
One lesser known fact about quercetin is that it exerts its antihistamine effect by blocking the H4 receptor, whereas stinging nettle and most OTC antihistamines like loperamide and cetirizine block the H1 receptor. If allergies are a huge issue for you, probably it's a good idea to have a combo of both types of H receptor blockers.
That’s interesting. Will add the nettle. It took a few weeks to work initially but I am not that consistent and don’t take daily.
How long did it take to see a difference?
A few weeks but I don’t take every day
Have you tried black seed oil, I swear it’s a miracle supplement for me, higher doses also seem to increase my energy and mood, make sure it’s a high thymoquinone product, I take 60-80 or so mg a day.
No I am not!! But I will definitely look into it. What is it for exactly?
It’s mentioned in the Bible and the Koran as essentially a miracle supplement, at moderate to higher doses I believe it works on your opiate receptors slightly and I haven’t noticed any side effects or downsides.
It can lower blood pressure but I also take it as an immunity booster, I’ve only been mildly sick once in 8 months, I also take a bit of turmeric, ginger, black pepper, and cayenne which all act as anti inflammatories, I can actually feel a bit of anxiety relief and inflammation relief nearly immediately, also great for the gut micro biome.
What brand?
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve heard good things about stinging nettle for allergies.
NP. I hope you healthy this season ☺️

Looking for some suggestions to help my boyfriend’s seasonal allergies. We’re in northern New England and whatever is in the air is taking him for a ride. We’re not really sure what exactly he is allergic to, but it’s giving him bloodshot/teary eyes that sometimes have a small amount of discharge, congestion, and wheezing/trouble breathing. Working on getting him to an allergist but of course it’s taking forever. We started him on some local honey and a nettle tea but those aren’t giving him much relief. Any suggestions welcome, thank you 🖤
Propolis honey is a bit stronger than regular honey. It helps build the immune system about seasonal allergies. However it’s more preemptive, meant to be taken daily for a month or two before the season begins.
This is a great product. https://www.avenabotanicals.com/products/pollen-pardon
Local raw honey. Local because the types of pollen the bees are pollinating has an impact over time. It won't help much to buy honey from Hawaii if you live in Maine.
Fresh stinging nettle. Do be careful if you choose to wild craft/forage your own. You can buy it dried but the fresh tends to be better for spring allergies. You might look if you can find a tincture made from fresh nettle (since it takes time to make your own).
I’m looking for natural ways to manage seasonal allergies without relying too much on over-the-counter meds. What holistic remedies or practices have actually worked for you during allergy season? Especially since weather is changing constantly here.
Doug Kauffman know the cause phase 1 diet. Fungus and parasite detox. - from a holistic coach
Sunlight. Get a tan. No sunsceen. But dont burn. Wear a hat if its too much on the face
If you take the pollen and whatever you are allergic to orally each day it does get better with time. Obviously very small doses.
Hello All,
Anyone here found a remedy for season allergies? I’m struggling with allergies from January till end of Spring. I would like to avoid taking antihistamines. Anyone guidance is very much appreciated.
Quercetin, nasal rinses, and stinging nettle
Thank you. Will this permanently cure it or a replacement for antihistamine tablets ?
This will just help reduce histamines. Fix your gut health if you want a "cure"

Thank you so much. How long are you taking this ? Do I need to take it life long ?
I've taken it, daily, for the past two years. I switch brands depending on price but just make sure they have the same ingredients.

Hello fellow Mainers... Another spring season is finally upon us. Man it feels so nice to get outside and get some sun, and do things around the yard, I should be happy right?
Unfortunately I feel pretty miserable with these brutal allergies I have going on. Nose won't stop dripping, nostrils feel plugged right up, sinus headache, sneezing a million times in a row, eyes are puffy and itchy and feel coated in dust or hair.
Allergy pills dont seem to touch it, and nasal sprays tend to make it worse in my opinion. I'm just stuck suffering until my body decides it's okay. Curious what my fellow allergy sufferers do this time of year to get some relief?
Right there with you! It's my second year here and this year was definitely harder with allergies.
I have had a sinus headache, sinus congestion, ears hurt, swollen itchy eyes.
I am using Flonase Sensimist otherwise I will be a mouth breather! Also a nasal saline spray .
Also have air purifier in the living room and bedroom.
The other thing I found on Amazon are those eye masks you can freeze, helps with with the swelling in eyes and sinuses.
That said, it is beautiful here and will spend time outdoors. Taking a shower when I come back in to get rid of pollen.
Wearing an N95 or KN94 mask whenever outside really helps, (and whenever because Covid is ongoing.)
Just go tell the trees to stop having sex all over us!
🤣🤣
Get some sun lol can’t wait.
Air purifier when you’re inside and especially when sleeping. My doctor told me sleeping with the window open or a fan can make it worse 😢 nasal sprays always make my allergies worse too for some reason.
I also take my allergy pill in the morning so it’s stronger if that helps at all. Also showering a few times a day and changing clothes after being outside will help too! And the steam from a shower can help with the congestion if you shut the door and don’t turn the fan on lol
I also use Mucinex if I’m super congested and it won’t resolve but obviously make sure it has no drug interactions with anything you take. Also doing a Neti-pot sinus rinse periodically is helpful as long as you’re not completely blocked up. I also drink a lot of water and think it will help flush the allergens but that could be my own psychological thing haha Hope you feel better!
I’ve been suffering from severe pollen allergies since childhood. Every year, like clockwork, the symptoms would return – blocked nose, itchy skin, watery, burning eyes, brain fog, and at times, I’d feel like I couldn’t even breathe properly. It made daily life miserable.
For most of my life, I relied on Montelukast (Myteka) tablets – the go-to prescription for allergies. And while they provided some relief, the effects were minimal. I still had trouble sleeping, concentrating, and functioning like a normal person during allergy season. My body always felt inflamed and irritated. And deep down, I knew I was only managing the symptoms, not treating the cause.
But recently, I decided to try something different – Moringa powder.I had heard about its anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties, and honestly, I had nothing to lose.
Within a few days of using Moringa daily, I noticed the difference. My breathing improved. The brain fog lifted. My eyes weren’t hurting anymore. The itching faded. I felt like my body was actually healing, not just being chemically suppressed.
I’ve been using it consistently for a while now, and this is the first allergy season in years where I feel like a normal human being again. No side effects. No dependency. Just real, natural healing.
I’m sharing this because I know so many of you out there are still stuck with medications that barely work and cause long-term harm to your liver and immune system. I’m not saying stop your meds instantly – but please, look into Moringa. It might just be the thing your body’s been needing all along. Peace ✌️
Hey, same here! I’ve dealt with brutal pollen allergies forever and in my case what really helped me was using omega-3 fish oil which dials down the inflammation and makes a huge difference. Thank you for sharing your experience I will try Moringa myself to see if it helps.
Fish oil (omega-3) is great for many things, especially reducing inflammation. But for pollen allergies specifically, moringa’s natural antihistamine properties can really help with symptoms like sneezing and itchy eyes. I recommend giving it a try and seeing how it works for you :)
Try citrizine tablets a try (Baydal, Zyrtec etc). One tablet in morning is all I need in this season.
I appreciate the advice but those drugs may pose same side effects as the one i was taking (myteka) like dry mouth , fatigue , headaches etc , which cause more problem then benefits tbf , with moringa I haven’t experienced any side effects at all as its all natural . I recommend you try it and leave those drugs as they just prevent the symptoms not cure them . I wonder why docs never recommend the real stuff? Bcz they want to keep their jobs :)
Here in Norway, healthcare is free (mostly). Doctors do not benefit from patients having to go back to them for same thing again and again but also don't want to be liable for giving too strong meds. There's also a website where you can leave rating of your doctor (all registered doctors are listed there automatically), so docs are afraid of bad ratings too.
Meaning, it's in their interest to help you. And almost all recommend Citrizine for seasonal allergies since past 15 years. It's effective with minimal to no side effects.
Only question that remains is if real thing is available in Pakistan, knowing how nearly everything is often fake or diluted.
Fexet D really helps me
Moringa powder and kalongi oil(edible) with honey both have these qualities. You can try it. They both also treat gut health which indirectly improves acne break outs and constipation
Where to get that raw honey from? Store bough is fake mostly
From honey bee hives
My father orders it from different sellers on facebook who claim to do bee farming in Quetta, Swat and other northern areas. We order small quantities and 7 out 10 times it feels lika fake honey but only because it doesnt have any preservatives and other chemicals, we use it
Which brand of powder did you use?
Sure. Thank youu
Specifically for nasal congestion.
I am currently taking xyzal, flonase, allergy shots, and Allegra D(as needed due to anxiety effect).
I found drinking eucalyptus tea with lemon and honey works a little.
I started taking Aller-Response from Source Naturals about 2 weeks ago. I love it. Highly suggest it. It’s less than $1 a day and you can get it on amazon if you don’t have a local health food store that carries it.
ProTip: Try cutting dairy out of your diet for a couple weeks. It may cut down on the congestion.
Do you take it with other allergy meds? Like does it have interactions?
I am currently taking it as the only allergy med I need, besides Benadryl like once a couple nights ago. I have allergy induced asthma and this is the only thing I’ve ever taken that helped besides Singulair, which I had to stop because of side affects.
There should be 0 interactions as it is all natural. It also has an energizing effect as well that I love. Tbh you could potentially cut down on your other meds, cut out dairy, take Aller-response and your congestion issues would subside.
I have suffered from severe allergies and congestion my whole life and cutting out dairy was the best thing I’ve ever done for it.
Those stupid sinus rinse bottles that I hate doing. If you try it get a squirt bottle one, buy the saline packets in bulk, I got a little stand for mine too s it can hang to dry, and a glass electric kettle to sterilize the bottle and water you use for the rinse. If you don’t keep it clean you’ll be snorting up sinus infections. And replace the squirt bottle like every 3-6 months or whatever it says on the box.
L sakei probiotic, specifically for the horrific nasal congestion that I get. I've only been using it a few days but it seems to help. That particular strain of bacteria appears to be missing from the sinuses of people with chronic sinus issues.
Pretty much every other natural remedy I've tried hasn't done anything.
How do you take it? A pill? Any specific brand?
Also do you find any help with low histamine diet?
It's a powder. I use lanto sinus, but there are other brands. You basically mix it in water, put a little bit in your nostrils and then swish and swallow the rest.
Never tried a low histamine diet. I'm vegan, but the only diet that helped my sinuses was keto... Though my cholesterol got dangerously high and the effect started to wear off a few months in.
Is there a difference between sakei probiotics and regular probiotics?
It's a very specific strain of bacteria found in the sinus cavities that's not in most regular probiotics. Though apparently it's absent in the sinuses of many people with chronic sinus issues. Other people in r/sinusitis said it's worth trying so I'm currently on like day 5.
The only truly reliable thing has been a neti pot. I use it about 30 mins before I take my nasal spray
Those stupid sinus rinse bottles that I hate doing
They dont.
Wearing mask all day long whenever I am outside the home, closed Windows and doors, but nothing seems to help.
I just woke up, sitting in my bed like a zombie right now and thinking it's just beginning of the allergy season.
One thing that helped me the most last season was: Consuming 10,000 IU of d3 and 200mg of zinc I halved that this year but I think I'll need to go back to the same amounts.
Also starting to drink nettle root tea from today. Replacing my coffee with that tea twice a day.
Another thing that helped was reducing dairy, switching from whole milk to 1% or 2%. I'll probably have to do that again this year.
Leaving it all here if someone finds it helpful.
Highly recommend the Sinusauna!! It's a heated dry air therapy mask I wear before bed 2-3 nights a week for 20 mins and it's helped me sleep so much better as i'm actually able to breathe lol. Def recommend checking it out - https://sinusauna.com/#Overview
Interesting concept. Thanks for sharing
This past week in NYC has been rough… constant brain fog and bleh
Is brain fog one of your main symptoms?
I've had some congestion and sinus pressure here and there but not the typical sneezing and runny nose.
But I've had consistent brain fog and just feel slow mentally
Yes brain fog is definitely one of my main symptoms and also hardest mentally to deal with… takes a toll for sure
Hey y’all. Anyone else’s allergies going absolutely crazy? Mine are so bad, it’s making me feel ill. Stuffy eyes, ears, nose, headache, brain fog, tired....
Does anyone know of any natural remedies for Texas pollen/tree allergies? I don’t want to have to resort to any drowsy OTC medication because I have a lot of studying I need to do...
Thank you so much!
Generic (equate) brand nasal spray (fluticasone propionate) has saved my life.
I used to have to call out of work sick, be unable to sleep, and be miserable for months. Now I barely notice my symptoms
Edit: sometimes when it's really bad I do the nasal spray along with generic zyrtec
Thank you so much! Heading to cvs now haha
I had terrible allergies. Went to a doctor in Plano for "allergy acupuncture" as a last straw. Otherwise I was going to move out of Dallas.
Worked better than I could have imagined. After 6-8 treatments, I haven't had allergies for 12 years except once. And I went in for 1 followup treatment for that and no allergies since.
Tread lightly with nasal spray. It gets addicting. At first it’s the only thing that helps you breathe. But then, your body gets used to it. So then you start using it more frequently so you are not clogged up. After 3+ months of continuous use, I had to cut it out and I feel like I lost 50% of my ability to smell. There’s a reason why the instructions say to not use it for longer than 2 weeks I believe.
Good luck!
It's so bad for my husband that he's been doing an allergy shot regimen for about 5 years now. It's the only thing that's offered long-term relief.
Zyrtec works for me, everyone is different. Real Sudafed, not PE, can help dry everything out too.
I’ll second Zyrtec but it works best if you take it a few days in a row. Or, at least until whatever is setting you off calms down a bit.
I do Flonase for nose zaditor for eyes and some allergy pill I found on amazon it’s 365 pills for $16
I use this : Kirkland Signature Aller-Flo, 5 Bottles for $16.99 at Costco. Great stuff
natural remedies for seasonal allergies
Key Considerations for Natural Remedies for Seasonal Allergies:
Local Honey: Consuming local honey may help build immunity to local pollen. Start with a teaspoon daily during allergy season.
Nasal Irrigation: Using a saline nasal rinse (like a neti pot) can help clear allergens from your nasal passages and reduce congestion.
Quercetin: This natural antioxidant found in foods like onions, apples, and berries may help stabilize mast cells and reduce histamine release.
Butterbur: Some studies suggest that butterbur extract can be as effective as antihistamines for reducing allergy symptoms. Consult with a healthcare provider before use.
Probiotics: Maintaining gut health with probiotics may help modulate immune responses and reduce allergy symptoms. Foods like yogurt, kefir, and fermented vegetables are good sources.
Essential Oils: Certain essential oils, such as peppermint and eucalyptus, can help open airways and reduce congestion when used in a diffuser or inhaled.
Dietary Adjustments: Incorporate anti-inflammatory foods (like fatty fish, leafy greens, and nuts) and avoid processed foods that may exacerbate inflammation.
Recommendation: Start with nasal irrigation and local honey, as they are easy to implement and have minimal side effects. Always consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement or remedy, especially if you have existing health conditions or are taking medications.
