Timeline of Events in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

TL;DR The MCU timeline is complex, involving movies, one-shots, TV shows, and multiverse elements. Key events include Captain America: The First Avenger, Iron Man series, Avengers films, and recent Phase 4 and 5 projects.

MCU Core Timeline

The core timeline of the MCU starts with Captain America: The First Avenger, set during World War II, followed by Iron Man and its sequels [2]. The timeline continues with major films like Thor, The Incredible Hulk, and Avengers. Each film builds upon the previous ones, with interconnected plots and character arcs. For instance, Iron Man 2 is set six months after Iron Man, leading up to the events of The Avengers [1:3].

Integration of TV Shows and One-Shots

TV shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and one-shots such as Agent Carter are integrated into the timeline, though they often exist in semi-canon status due to their loose connections with the main films [1:2]. Agent Carter follows the post-war activities of Peggy Carter, while Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. aligns with events from various MCU films, particularly those involving S.H.I.E.L.D. [4:2].

Phase 4 and 5 Developments

Recent developments in Phase 4 and 5 introduce new characters and storylines, including Black Widow, WandaVision, and Loki [4:1]. These projects expand the universe further, exploring themes like the multiverse and alternate timelines. Loki, for example, operates outside the traditional timeline due to its setting in the TVA [3:1].

Multiverse and Alternate Timelines

The introduction of the multiverse complicates the timeline further, incorporating films from different studios, such as the X-Men series [5:1]. Days of Future Past creates an altered timeline for the X-Men universe, affecting subsequent films like Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix [5:2]. This integration highlights the expansive nature of the MCU and its ability to incorporate diverse narratives.

Fan Contributions and Theories

Fans have contributed significantly to understanding the MCU timeline, creating detailed graphics and theories [1:1][5:5]. These efforts help clarify the chronological order and provide insights into how different elements fit together. Fan theories, such as the impact of cosmic events on character changes, showcase the creativity within the community [5:6].

You mean MCU + marvel TV shows (which movies or Feige does not care and probably going to retcon) right .

Yes. In my mind, the colors actually separate the canon (movies in red, one-shot in orange and future Disney+ shows in Yellow, and probably WHIH News in pink and Agent Carter in grey) from the semi-canon (everything else).
However:

  • AoS seasons 1 to 5 don't conflict with the main canon;
  • Marvflix show don't conflict the main canon apart from a few, rare post-snap scenes, from non-appearance of Manhattan in-universe buildings and one-way connection with the movies;
  • Freeform shows are so disconnected from the rest that they can easily be considered non-canon;
  • Agent Carter can be considered as canon with intertwined characters with movies, exploration of a different time period and common writers with the movies.

It's also probable that following Morbius, we'll learn that there is some kind of connection with the Sony universe, but waiting for this, Venom stays out this timeline.

Here’s the timeline in uncompressed, full size: https://imgit.org/i/2020/03/17/Zpa.png

A few months back, I started to get interested in the timeline of the MCU – and quickly realized how messy it was. In my research, I stumbled on some timelines infographics, but all were either old or not detailed enough. Then, I started to work on my own, one piece at a time.

I used timeline lists, such as the Marvel Cinematic Universe Media List, the amazing work of DIrishB and the incredible day-by-day details on the Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki. These have been of huge help.

I’m well aware that this timeline includes flaws – such as inconsistencies in the MCU itself (cf. Agents of Shield S6 or Runaways S3) – and that some of you won’t agree with the placement of some dates. I tried to respect the works done before the best I could.

If I’d do it again, I’d increase the width and reduce the height of it (rather than "2 pixels large = 1 day"), for it to be more readable by zooming it. However, I don’t have the faith nor the time of doing that right now.

Fury’s big week doesn’t work within the movies. Thor 1 takes place a heat before avengers, per Avengers, and in Civil War (in 2016) Iron Man has been a hero for eight years. IM2 takes place very explicitly six months after IM1 in July. If you end to DM me, Id be happy to talk more. Most of your Netflix placements seem good, up until defenders, which is quite rare to see.

Cool graphic. I disagree with a lot of the MCU wiki’s placements, but it’s sort of a matter of opinion. You should see if you could send this to the mods on the wiki.

Yeah haha, that kind of bummed me out just ro have to add the 2005 year for one episode. But the timeline wouldn't have been complete otherwise...

This is the ultimate chronological order to watch everything in. I have the exact same list I go through on my MCU rewatch, but I move Captain America The First Avenger to after Thor. Technically the film takes place in 2011-2012 (before the Avengers) with the bulk of the film essentially being a flashback. But that's me getting really technical.

2003 for the SSU is 2008 for the mcu because Venom 2 is set in 2019 and they get transported to the MCU which is in 2024 meaning that the difference is 5 years

The Gifted can kind a work in canon, if you slot it in after The Wolverine.

But it’s X-Men it ain’t perfect.

This is just wrong on so many levels, for example you should watch some of the X-Men movies before the Deadpool&Wolverine.

A few notes:

  • Team Thor 1-2/Team Daryl aren't in the main timeline.
  • Black Panther 1 is a bit late; it overlaps Black Widow, starting only a week after Civil War.
  • Ragnarok is completely missing. It happens in late 2017; most people place it after Daredevil season 3.
  • You've got Cloak & Dagger and Runaways basically inside-out: There's an 8-month gap between Cloak & Dagger season 1 and season 2, with season 1 happening before Jessica Jones S1 and season 2 happening at about the same time as Daredevil S3. On the other hand, the first 2.5 seasons of Runaways (through episode 3.05) happen back-to-back between Daredevil S3 and Punisher S2, and then the last 5 episodes happen shortly after Infinity War.
  • Agents of Shield S5 eps 19-22 (you have a typo there as "S4") ends before Infinity War ends.

And a couple nitpicks:

  • You have the "official" placement for Thor: Love & Thunder, but the movie itself contradicts that placement; Thor's very specific recollection of when Jane dumped him and Groot's developmental phase make it make more sense in May 2024, right after Falcon & Winter Soldier.
  • Likewise, you have the "official" placements for Secret Invasion and The Marvels, but they don't make sense there either; Secret Invasion starts at an early November holiday, so it shouldn't be directly preceding Agatha All Along, which takes place in October--that is solvable by putting Secret Invasion in the previous November. And Kate's age in The Marvels doesn't work if the movie is that late in 2026 either, but by moving Secret Invasion, we can also put The Marvels before Quantumania.

I am aware this is not EXACTLY chronologically accurate, but I think it is much more enjoyable to watch it all this way balancing credit scene foreshadowing with chronology.

I think this is not bad overall, but see a few things: 1) Based on the rules laid down in Endgame, there should probably be multiple earths/timelines for the X-Men films (not to mention that even without Endgame rules, they conflict with one another). 2) Team Darryl short - pretty sure that's non-canon, as IIRC it conflicts with Thor's actual whereabouts. Though I realize Darryl had a cameo in, I think it was T:L&T. 3) I haven't seen Agents of Shield, but wasn't it confirmed to not be in the main 616 timeline/universe, again due to contradictions?

i struggle a lot trying to stay on track while watching the x films, they probably would have multiple earths and timelines but i am not sure where to begin labeling them. when i look up the films individually, i usually get earth-10005, but if you have a better understanding of how i would go about labeling that, i would appreciate it! the team darryl one shot i believe was after t:l&t so it probably doesn’t go after ragnorak as thanos took over their ship and thor then had to be rescued by the guardians. agents of shield mostly follows phil coulson after the events of the first avengers movie so i believe that is the same universe.

My previous comments were focused on the inclusion of non-Canon stuff, but said inclusion wasn't the only thing wrong with this timeline, as there are several Phase 4 and Phase 5 projects that are placed incorrectly.

The timeline for Phases 4 and 5 needs to be as follows (projects from previous phases listed in parentheses)

* (Captain America: Civil War)

* Black Widow

* Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

* (Spider-Man: Homecoming)

* (Avengers: Endgame)

* WandaVision

* Loki Season 1

* Loki Season 2

* What If...? Season 1

* What If...? Season 2

* What If...? Season 3

* Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

* The Falcon and The Winter Soldier

* (Spider-Man: Far From Home)

* Spider-Man: No Way Home

* Eternals

* Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

* Hawkeye

* Moon Knight

* Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

* Echo

* She-Hulk: Attorney at Law

* Secret Invasion

The X-Men Timeline has errors as well and should be as follows:

* X-Men: First Class

* X-Men Origins: Wolverine

* X-Men

* X2: X-Men United

* X-Men: The Last Stand

* The Wolverine

* X-Men: Days of Future Past

* X-Men: Apocalypse

* X-Men: Dark Phoenix

* Deadpool

* Deadpool 2

* Deadpool and Wolverine

* Logan

* The New Mutants

Also worth noting: if Deadpool and Wolverine were to be placed on the MCU Phase 4 and 5 timeline, it would go after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

My Definitive In-Universe Marvel Movie Timeline (MCU + Multiverse Connected Films)

Posted by Klihoom · in r/marvelstudios · 2 months ago

Hey everyone!

For ages, I've been completely obsessed with the massive, sprawling world of Marvel movies, just like many of you. But as the Multiverse opened up and brought in everything, I found myself constantly asking: how does it all truly fit together chronologically? It's not just the MCU anymore; it's decades of films from different studios, all featuring characters we love.

I know tons of incredibly smart people in this fandom have tackled timelines before (and seriously, kudos to all that work!), but I've poured countless hours into this project over the years. My goal was to build what I believe is the most comprehensive, in-universe chronological timeline of every single theatrical Marvel movie ever released. Yes, every single one! From the original Blade to the latest multiversal craziness, I've tried to weave them all into one coherent story.

What makes this different? Well, I've even cooked up a fun in-universe theory to explain those tricky actor changes (looking at you, Rhodey and Bruce Banner!) by tying them to a specific cosmic event. It's a passion project, and I'm genuinely excited to finally share it with all of you.

Take a look, and let me know what you think.

Early Periods & Past Events (Pre-2000s)

  1. Captain America: The First Avenger (Primarily 1942-1945, MCU)
  2. X-Men: First Class (Primarily 1962, Fox X-Men Universe) - Chronological start of the "First Class" X-Men timeline.
  3. X-Men: Days of Future Past (Primarily 1973, Fox X-Men Universe) - The bulk of the past-altering events take place here, serving as a soft reboot for the Fox X-Men timeline.
  4. X-Men Origins: Wolverine (Various periods, primarily 1970s/1980s, Fox X-Men Universe) - Logan's earlier life, fitting into the "original" Fox timeline before the Days of Future Past alterations fully manifest.
  5. X-Men: Apocalypse (1983, Fox X-Men Universe) - Events in the altered timeline from 'Days of Future Past'.
  6. X-Men: Dark Phoenix (1992, Fox X-Men Universe) - Events in the altered timeline, continuing from 'Apocalypse'.
  7. Captain Marvel (1995, MCU)
  8. Blade (1998, New Line Cinema) - The original Blade's events, now implicitly part of the wider multiversal landscape due to Deadpool & Wolverine references.

Early 2000s Crossover Origins (Live-Action)

  1. X-Men (2000, Fox X-Men Universe) - The start of the original X-Men film trilogy's continuity, largely taking place in the new timeline established by 'Days of Future Past' (though it was originally made before that concept).
  2. Blade II (2002, New Line Cinema)
  3. Spider-Man (2002, Sam Raimi's Spider-Man Universe)
  4. Daredevil (2003, Fox Marvel/New Regency) - Its universe is explicitly referenced in Deadpool & Wolverine.
  5. X2: X-Men United (2003, Fox X-Men Universe)
  6. Hulk (2003, Universal Pictures) - The first major live-action solo Hulk film, now implicitly part of the vast multiverse.
  7. Madame Web (Set in 2003, Sony's Spider-Man Universe) - Features a time period before Spider-Man's emergence, establishing origins for Spider-Women and connections within the SSU, which is tied to the wider Spider-Verse multiverse.
  8. Blade: Trinity (2004, New Line Cinema)
  9. The Punisher (2004, Lionsgate Films) - Another standalone Marvel property, implied to be part of the multiversal collection.
  10. Spider-Man 2 (2004, Sam Raimi's Spider-Man Universe)
  11. Elektra (2005, Fox Marvel/Regency Enterprises) - Direct spin-off from 2003 Daredevil.
  12. Fantastic Four (2005, Fox Fantastic Four Universe) - Features Chris Evans as Johnny Storm, a variant seen in Deadpool & Wolverine.
  13. X-Men: The Last Stand (2006, Fox X-Men Universe)
  14. Ghost Rider (2007, Columbia Pictures) - Nicolas Cage's portrayal, whose universe is now implicitly part of the broader multiverse.
  15. Spider-Man 3 (2007, Sam Raimi's Spider-Man Universe)

Early MCU & Remaining Connected Universes (Post-Cosmic Event)

  1. Iron Man (2008, MCU)
  2. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007, Fox Fantastic Four Universe) - Moved here as the cosmic event from Galactus's defeat provides an in-universe explanation for subsequent actor changes across various timelines/realities, such as Rhodey, Bruce Banner, and Frank Castle.
  3. The Incredible Hulk (2008, MCU) - The "new face" of Bruce Banner/Hulk in the MCU after the cosmic event.
  4. Punisher: War Zone (2008, Lionsgate Films) - A "new face" for Frank Castle in a separate universe, after the cosmic event.
  5. Iron Man 2 (2010, MCU) - The "new face" of James Rhodes after the cosmic event, with the famous "I'm here, deal with it" line.
  6. Thor (2010, MCU)
  7. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011, Columbia Pictures) - Sequel to the 2007 film, further expanding that universe within the multiverse.
  8. The Amazing Spider-Man (2012, Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man Universe)
  9. The Avengers (2012, MCU)
  10. Iron Man 3 (2012, MCU)
  11. The Wolverine (2013, Fox X-Men Universe) - Set after the events of The Last Stand but before Days of Future Past's future events (in the original timeline that leads to the future depicted in DoFP).
  12. Thor: The Dark World (2013, MCU)
  13. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014, Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man Universe)
  14. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014, MCU)
  15. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014, MCU)
  16. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2014, MCU)
  17. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015, MCU)
  18. Ant-Man (2015, MCU)
  19. Fantastic Four (2015, Fox Fantastic Four Universe) - Josh Trank's version, implicitly part of the wider multiverse.

Mid-Late MCU & Deepening Multiverse Connections

  1. Deadpool (2016, Fox Deadpool Universe) - Events before his MCU crossover.
  2. Captain America: Civil War (2016, MCU)
  3. Black Widow (Primarily 2016, with some earlier flashbacks, MCU)
  4. Doctor Strange (2016-2017, MCU)
  5. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017, MCU)
  6. Black Panther (2017, MCU)
  7. Thor: Ragnarok (2017, MCU)

  9. Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018, MCU)
  10. Venom (2018, Sony's Spider-Man Universe) - Post-credits scene sets up connection to 'No Way Home'.
  11. Avengers: Infinity War (2018, MCU)
  12. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018, Sony Pictures Animation) - Explicitly explores a vast multiverse of Spider-People, including direct visual references to live-action Spider-Men and the MCU's multiverse concept.
  13. Avengers: Endgame (Starts 2018, primarily 2023, MCU) - The direct cause of the fracturing of the "Sacred Timeline" and the catalyst for the Multiverse Saga.
  14. The New Mutants (2020, Fox/Disney) - The final Fox X-Men related film, implicitly part of the vast, pruned timelines.
  15. Logan (2029 - but chronologically within Fox X-Men universe, potentially the specific Wolverine pulled into the MCU) - The ultimate fate of Hugh Jackman's Wolverine in his original timeline, which informs his appearance in 'Deadpool & Wolverine'.

The Multiverse Saga Begins (MCU & Direct Crossovers - 2020s Onward)

  1. Spider-Man: Far From Home (2024, MCU) - Introduces the idea of the multiverse to the MCU public, even if fake initially.
  2. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2024, MCU)
  3. Eternals (Various points in time, but primarily 2024, MCU)
  4. Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021, Sony's Spider-Man Universe) - Post-credits scene directly teleports Venom into the MCU, leading into 'No Way Home'.

  6. Morbius (2022, Sony's Spider-Man Universe) - Post-credits scene features Adrian Toomes (Vulture) from the MCU, now in Morbius's universe, confirming a direct link after the events of 'No Way Home' and setting up future crossovers.
  7. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (Early 2025, MCU) - Directly explores other realities, featuring Fox X-Men*'s Professor X (Patrick Stewart) and a version of* Marvel Television's Inhumans*' Black Bolt (Anson Mount) from Earth-838.*
  8. Thor: Love and Thunder (Late 2025, MCU)
  9. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (Late 2025, MCU)
  10. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023, Sony Pictures Animation) - Deepens the multiversal narrative from the animated side, reinforcing the concept of "canon events" across realities, impacting all Spider-Man variants.
  11. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (Early 2026, MCU) - Introduces Kang the Conqueror as the major multiversal threat.
  12. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (Mid-2026, MCU)
  13. The Marvels (Late 2026, MCU) - Post-credits scene features Beast (Kelsey Grammer) from Fox X-Men universe*, pulling Monica Rambeau into that reality.*
  14. Deadpool & Wolverine (Released July 26, 2024, now fully integrated MCU Multiverse film) - A massive crossover event, directly bringing Hugh Jackman's Wolverine (from the Fox X-Men universe*), Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool (from the* Fox Deadpool universe*), Chris Evans' Johnny Storm (from* Fox Fantastic Four 2005*), and Jennifer Garner's Elektra (from* 2005 Elektra*), among others. Explicitly references the 2003 Daredevil film and other aspects of the Fox Marvel universe. This film is the* current culmination point of these disparate timelines converging.
  15. Kraven the Hunter (Released December 13, 2024, Sony's Spider-Man Universe) - The latest SSU film, further building out that interconnected universe, which has known ties to the wider multiverse.
  16. Venom: The Last Dance (Released October 25, 2024, Sony's Spider-Man Universe) - The conclusion of the Venom trilogy, which has already established direct multiversal ties to the MCU.
  17. Captain America: Brave New World (Released February 14, 2025, MCU)
  18. Thunderbolts* (Released May 2, 2025, MCU)
  19. Fantastic Four (Released July 25, 2025, MCU Multiverse film, set in Earth-828) - Confirmed to be set in an alternate universe (Earth-828) with its characters eventually crossing over into the main MCU. This film itself is a direct product of the multiversal expansion, acknowledging previous iterations while creating a new one.

So, what do you all think? Did I miss anything? Any films you think should be included or reordered based on this multiversal logic? I'm eager to hear your thoughts, theories, and any additions you might have.

Days of Future Past, Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix shouldn't be watch there. The original timeline has to happen first up until 2023 for these movies to happen

Klihoom · OP · 2 months ago

That's a really good point and a very common area of confusion with the Fox X-Men films! You're absolutely right that in terms of release order and how the story originally unfolded for viewers, the first X-Men trilogy happened before Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix.

However, for this timeline, I'm focusing purely on in-universe chronology. Days of Future Past (the 1973 portion) essentially created a new, altered timeline for the X-Men universe. Apocalypse (1983) and Dark Phoenix (1992) then chronologically follow the events of that altered 1973 period in this new timeline.

The original X-Men (2000) and its sequels then exist later in this same altered timeline, after the events of Dark Phoenix. The future events in Days of Future Past (2023) are part of the original timeline which the 1973 intervention was designed to prevent, leading to the new chronology.

It's definitely one of the trickiest parts to sequence, but that's how I've approached it for a strictly in-universe perspective! Thanks for bringing it up, as it's a great discussion point.

I’m confused by what you mean when you say Galactus’s defeat in Rise of the Silver Surfer provides the explanation for the actor changes. Can you elaborate on that?

1 upvotes on reddit
Klihoom · OP · 2 months ago

Just a fan theory I came up with 15 years ago. In Rise if the Silver Surfer, Surfer causes Johnny's genetic structure to change and go into flux which makes him swap powers. It's also explained that it's the same (or similar) type of energy as the cloud that gave the Four (and Room) their powers.

So I took that and expanded on it, when Galactus explodes at the end of the movie, cosmic radiation is scattered across the planet's exosphere, which in my theory, caused certain peoples' physical appearances to change. Therefore tying the movies together.

That’s a pretty neat idea you have there. Probably a stretch, but the foundation for the concept is pretty sound

I made a complete chronological timeline of the MCU (including all shows, one-shots, web-series). It took many months, 200+ hours of work, and more computer space than I’m willing to admit.

Bravo. You did a great job with that! Thanks for sharing.

I have a question: Now that Feige is the last word creatively on all things Marvel, would you consider revamping this if he starts decanonizing some/all of the Marvel Television projects?

6 upvotes on reddit
DakotaCLopez · OP · 5 years ago

That’s definitely the next step, if he decanonizes some of the shows. But technically these are all the currently officially canon titles. So I chose to keep em in.

I'm really glad you did! Seeing all of the logos listed out like that was really satisfying. And sorry if my intent wasn't clear. I was more asking in the sense of "You already put so much time and effort into this, so would you ever even consider updating it if Feige cuts out the shows he didn't make?" Does that make more sense?

Predicting the dissolution of Marvel TV, I also created a film-only, spoiler free version of said timeline. That explains about... 80 of those hours lol.

If the Marvel TV projects ever/ inevitably get confirmed to be non-canon/ soft-rebooted/ retconned, their timeline would probably be the same as it is now up until 2018.

Could probably be treated as their own separate Earth. Maybe Earth-19999999998

I can’t deny you that right. I understand. [Edit] the reason we have it placed in 2015 is simply that they mention in the first season that it occurs 8 years after 2007. They mention this 8 times in the first season. And the second season features a newspaper that occurs at the tail end of the first season of Luke Cage.

It’d be cool if you did individual vids for the Marvel TV projects like you did for the films.

It gets pretty tricky after 2016.

The final render on v5 took longer than both v6 and v6.5 (the video linked above) combined. Removing the clips from the background helped tremendously there. Believe it or not, to create the background with all the comics and make it look smooth took about 36 hours to render fully.

I’ve put together what I hope is a complete chronological watchlist for everything Marvel, including Sony’s and Fox's movies and the older Marvel films. There might still be some mistakes or missing pieces, but I thought I’d share it. Most of it is live-action except for the MCU cartoon shows

This timeline is separted by years. My reason for certian placements:
not every universe is in the same year. For example, 2019 for the SSU would be 2024 for the MCU. This is proven because as we know Venom 2 and Spider-Man No way Home are set around the same time, yet the years are different. That would mean that the difference is 5 years, which is why I did plus 5 for every SSU film, and it makes more sense because of crossovers that happen. The same can be said for the spider-verse films as the events of no way home are mentioned. For the Fantastic 4, it multiversally takes place in 2024 because in the end credits of thunderbolts, the fantastic 4 arrive and the end credit is set in 2028. in the end credit of fantastic 4 there is a 4 year time jump putting it in 1968 and we can assume this is when they travel to the mcu's 2028, and if we are only following one year system (which we are) that would put it to 2024

Isn't this a little bit confusing when you mix all the universes like that? I mean when you watch this its now im watching 199999 now 10005 now 96283 now 10005 again.

There are two major problems here:

  1. Causality. The two X-Men timelines being shuffled together makes no sense.
  2. Consistency. While you have the two X-Men timelines rigidly bound to their setting years regardless of how it affects the narrative, you intentionally have the SSU films in the wrong years to match the narrative. Either desync an X-Men timeline or resync the SSU timeline.

Then, of course, there are the devils in the details:

  • Fury's Big Week (IM2, A Funny Thing, Thor, Incredible Hulk, Consultant) is officially placed in 2011; you have it in 2010.
  • The gap between seasons 1 & 2 of Runaways is only 24 hours; Runaways S1 should be after Cloak & Dagger S2.
  • How does What If S1 possibly go before Endgame/Loki?
  • Since all the other one-shots are here, I'm presuming "Peter's To-Do List" was left out by accident; it goes right before Far From Home. (I'm presuming the webseries were left out on purpose, so I won't nitpick that.)
  • Which Fantastic Four movie is that at the end of 2024?
  • Deadpool & Wolverine is actually set in 2024, despite Logan not having happened yet.

Heads up, Thor, Iron Man 2 and The Incredible Hulk all took place during the same week compared to being space apart. 'Fury's Big Week', There's also an Avenger's Prelude comic of the same name.

it’s kinda hard to include the non mcu spidey films and what if into a date because they are all technically branch timelines. u can give the spidey movies the same dates just in splintered timelines i guess but u can’t box what if into just 1 year like u did because each episode takes place in a different timeline at a different point in time entirely

Marvel already put what if in the timeline so it isn't hard to place lol

i’m saying you can’t say what if takes place in 2023. in one definitive point in the timeline. because each episode takes place in different times. the first episode took place 1942. the second episode took place 2014. the third episode took place 2010 etc. it’s not one point in time so saying it takes place in 2023 in the timeline makes zero sense

>they are all technically branch timelines

Steve/Peggy's ending and Loki would be a branched timelines of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ASM and Raimi's Spider-Man films take place in their own respective universes, seperate to the MCU. NWH: >!Potentially with their own branched timelines if they returned with the villain's they saved being alive. !<

I'd agree in saying this could be the MCM in chronological order but you're definitely right to say it's wrong to include out of Universe films in an MCU list.

Even in a multiverse timeline, people don't include The Incredible Hulk.

Yep, they also missed that Iron Man 2, Thor and Hulk all occured within the same week. Instead, setting them a year apart.

Full MCU/ Marvel universe timeline?

Posted by Extreme_Pineapple860 · in r/marvelstudios · 4 years ago

This is probably a stupid question but I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a FULL marvel timeline out there. And i'm not talking just the MCU. ALL Marvel comics/movies/series put together in 1 watch/read/view - order. All different timelines and different dimensions also included.
All i find is the MCU vieworder

This is probably as close as you're going to get. It's just the MCU, though.

However, it includes all the movies, shows, short films, web-series and tie-in comics - with the various timelines - broken down to the day.

That's extremely complicated counting in the comics, because there are lots of dealings with alternative timelines, story arcs that go nowhere. However if you are just starting the start with the something like the reboot.

Timeline of events in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Key Considerations for the Timeline of Events in the MCU:

  1. Phases: The MCU is divided into phases, with each phase containing multiple films and series that contribute to the overarching narrative.

    • Phase One: Introduced key characters and culminated in "The Avengers" (2012).
    • Phase Two: Expanded the universe with sequels and new heroes, ending with "Ant-Man" (2015).
    • Phase Three: Introduced major story arcs, including the Infinity Saga, concluding with "Spider-Man: Far From Home" (2019).
    • Phase Four and Beyond: Introduces new characters and storylines, including Disney+ series like "WandaVision" and "Loki."
  2. Key Events:

    • 2008: "Iron Man" - The birth of the MCU.
    • 2012: "The Avengers" - The formation of the Avengers team.
    • 2014: "Guardians of the Galaxy" - Introduction of cosmic elements.
    • 2016: "Captain America: Civil War" - Major conflict among heroes.
    • 2018: "Avengers: Infinity War" - The battle against Thanos begins.
    • 2019: "Avengers: Endgame" - The culmination of the Infinity Saga.
    • 2021: "WandaVision" - The start of Phase Four and exploration of the multiverse.
  3. Multiverse Concept: Introduced in "Loki" and expanded in "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness," this concept allows for alternate realities and timelines.

  4. Viewing Order: For a coherent experience, consider watching the films in release order or chronological order based on the events within the universe.

Recommendation: If you're new to the MCU, start with the films in Phase One and progress through each phase. This will give you a comprehensive understanding of character development and plot progression. For a detailed timeline, consider resources like the Marvel website or fan-made timelines that outline events chronologically.
