Upcoming Anime Conventions 2024

While the discussions provided do not directly address upcoming anime conventions in 2024, there are general strategies and resources you can use to find this information.

Check Convention Websites and Social Media

Most major anime conventions have their own websites and social media pages where they announce dates and details for upcoming events. Some well-known conventions include Anime Expo, Otakon, and Sakura-Con. Checking these platforms regularly will keep you updated on any announcements for 2024 events.

Use Convention Listing Sites

Websites like AnimeCons.com or FanCons.com provide comprehensive lists of anime conventions worldwide. These sites often allow you to filter by year and location, making it easier to find conventions happening in 2024.

Join Anime Community Forums

Participating in forums such as Reddit's r/anime or specific convention subreddits can be a good way to hear about upcoming events from other fans. Members often share news and updates about conventions they plan to attend.

Look for Regional Events

If you're interested in smaller, local conventions, consider looking up regional anime clubs or groups that might host annual events. These can sometimes offer a more intimate experience compared to larger, national conventions.

Plan Ahead

Once you identify conventions you're interested in, consider booking accommodations early, as hotels near convention centers can fill up quickly. Also, check if the convention offers early bird ticket pricing or special packages.

Ok so I’ll recommend some anime by genre and you can pick according to your mood/preference:-

  1. Serious: Violet Evergarden (my personal favourite! every frame is art and it's got breath taking animation and great writing: it’s about conveying and understanding feelings)

  2. Romantic Comedy: Kaguya Sama love is war [it’s a romance parody but it’s got better writing and romance than actual romance shows: the two main characters are trying to get each other to confess cause the one that confesses losses(the premise is making fun of how romance shows keep on stretching out the confession so the show's premise itself is trying not to confess)]

3)Coming of Age: Vinland Saga (don’t really know how to explain this one…it’s just a kid who wanted revenge going through life and changing as a person)

  1. Drama/thriller/politics: Attack on Titan (I can't even explain this one so I'll just say that it's game of thrones if it was actually good and the stakes were much higher)

  2. Psychological/Thriller: Psycho Pass(only season 1…it’s self contained the other seasons don’t live up to it).

  3. Mystery: Monster (A doctor get tangled into muders of psychopath and takes things into his own hands)

  4. Sports: Haikyu (extremely engaging volleyball anime with great characters and griping matches)

  5. Moralistic/Emotional: A Silent Voice (Its about bullying and ostracization).

  6. Comedy: Kono Suba (Guy gets sent to a fantasy world but he still sucks(weak) and his comrades are goofballs)

  7. Action/supernatural: Jujutsu Kaisen (people fight ghosts made up through accumulation of negative thoughts)

  8. Romance/Slice of Life: Your Name (Absolute Eye candy and interesting story with a twist)

Why do same have demographic tags?

I want to eat your monster doesn't have and it's also based on a manga. The manga has the supernatural tag, not fantasy.

This anime and the 3rd season of Spy x family are the ones i want to watch.

There a new anime coming to Disney plus which is good.

Are people saying that ASTD DMC'd other td games? That genuinely makes zero sense

7 upvotes on reddit
mannaggialwallmaria · 9 days ago

People think this because when AA got taken down, ASTD didn't receive any DMCA and they started promoting the MHA game of GameFam (same company that took down AA). Now that it's happening to AV the ASTD devs made a weird announcement saying that they weren't included in the DMCA while almost everyone else is. 1 time could be a coincidence, but when it happens twice you're involved in it.

Huh ASTD didn't get a DMCA during AA?

1 upvotes on reddit
Mr_Goldoffical · 8 days ago

We all know it was fruitysam. Astdx sucks and I think he knows it. Av is beating him in terms of player count, and with the new update, I dont think anyone will play it. I do feel bad for Brandon, though everyone was saying it was him.

2 upvotes on reddit
botlazer · 8 days ago

Astd is under the ownership of gamefam who is partnered with crunchy roll. The reason AA originally shutdown was because Gamefam made an Officially licensed MHA game, which in tern allowed Gamefam to dmca AA. This is also the reason why Astd x isn’t “under the orders” like other anime games that are getting dmca’d.

My Anime collection so far (350+ Anime, 14,000+ episodes, 7+ months of watch time) + why you should considering downloading your anime instead!

Posted by Plastic-Dependent · in r/animepiracy · 11 days ago
post image

I will try to answer any questions anyone has about this! This has been a bit of a hobby of mine for over a year now and it has made my anime watching experience much better, so I'd like to share it for anyone who might benefit like I have.

  1. This is my "Plex" anime collection. I download episodes of an anime onto a folder on my computer and it will appear on the Plex app or browser, and you can immediately start watching on any device on your Wi-Fi such as phone, console, tv, laptops, browsers, etc. It's basically your own little Netflix.
  2. These are mostly mini-encodes - versions of anime that have usually been rendered to take up as little data as a 480p video whilst losing basically 0 quality - something that you can't say about most piracy sites. (please see edit at the bottom of the post)
  3. The best part is that all of these files will stay here until I delete them - no big companies sending DMCA requests and losing watch progress and having to migrate every few months (if you look at the bottom of the image you can see I've had Plex for 5 years). You will be basically immune to all the takedown BS that has been affecting pirate sites lately.
  4. The above collection takes up 5.6TB and is growing - this is definitely a lot, but you can still fit a decent amount on a used 2TB HDD that you can probably find for like 20 bucks if you don't already have one. I have lots of shit that most people won't bother with, like all the episodes of the Big 3, all of Dragon Ball which take up a lot of storage.
  5. You can do this on any spare computer you have lying around.
  6. I have something called "Sonarr" set up, which you can access through your browser and manage your shows add new shows and it will do all the work of downloading, renaming, and moving to your Plex folder for you.
  7. All fillers, movies, OVAs, and specials will play in order of release once you have added them. You just press play and forget about it. I've found out I've missed out on lots of OVAs over the years because I never heard of them. All of them will be included under one title. For example, when I click on Attack on Titan, it will have all seasons shown and also all specials in the specials folder, its not like MAL where a season is considered a different show, and they will play according to what date they released, so an OVA released between Season 1 and 2 will play in between them.
  8. I stopped using piracy sites for weekly anime once I set up Sonarr with anime TRaSH-Guides setup, which will give torrents with high-quality, high-reputation release groups a higher score automatically and download those. If a higher quality version is found later, it will automatically upgrade it. The episodes download for me before the piracy sites release them.
  9. I have the full One Piece series but also One Pace, which is more convenient to watch than through official means which requires going on file sharing sites on a browser - which is a pain in the ass to do on something like a TV.
  10. I have a separate folder with the Monogatari series in correct order (much less of a pain to watch it now) and 4K upscaled versions of anime like Frieren. The amount of space it takes up is quite a bit - 82GB - but it's worth it for me because of the sheer eye candy. You can choose the quality of whatever you download according to your needs, unlike piracy sites that generally look fine, but usually not the best.
  11. A big problem with streaming services is that they tend to remove niche or obscure shows and never add them back, to the point where nobody can legally watch them. If you download these anime, you will be helping to preserve these shows.
  12. If you have a limited data plan, you will know exactly how much data the file will use and once its downloaded to your PC it will take up 0mb to stream to devices on your Wi-Fi, so you have people in the house watching the same shows, or you like rewatching shows, this can be more economical
  13. If you have a nice system and can do port forwarding you can setup game server for games like minecraft like I have, which can save you money on hosting services
  14. If an apocalypse ever happens you can still access these files if you have access to a power generator :P
  15. Fate series is too f***ing confusing I ain't adding that sh*t!!!!

If you have a spare computer lying around - it can be an old desktop, laptop, your main PC you can setup your own collection and you won't be at the mercy of when big corporations DMCA strike your favourite sites. If your ISP allows it, you can do something called "port forwarding" which lets you watch your anime from anywhere in the world. I have a friend living in another country and we regularly use the watch together feature to watch anime and shows at the same time, sort of like rabbit and tuturu back in the day but much better quality and less lag.

However, there might be some disadvantages of hosting your own content that I will mention here:

  • If you don't already have a computer ready to use, you will have to buy stuff to set this up
  • If your hard drive fails you will lose all your downloaded shows - this is very rare but has a higher likelihood of happening if you hard drive is very old and worn down, there are programs to check drive health like crystaldiskinfo to check for early signs of failure.
  • If anything else breaks, its also on you to fix it.
  • Plex has pissed off many users recently by making previous free stuff paid and increasing prices of membership - I have had plex lifetime subsription so I continue to use it, but most people who don't want to pay a penny use Jellyfin, which is basically the same thing as plex but completely free and doesn't require you making an account with your email and it doesn't collect any data, however some people say the Plex interface is better.
  • if your power goes out, so does your streaming service
  • The electricity is not free - depending on what your setup is and how expensive electricity is where you live it might not be economical. Electricity isn't cheap where I live but my system is power efficient so it costs me not much per month.
  • This can be time consuming depending on how obsessed you get with it - this is probably not employed people territory if you obsess over stuff.

If you have a question don't be afraid to ask and enjoy sailing the high seas!

(Edit 20/09): I may have worded point 2 poorly, all anime with 1080p options are streamed at 1080p on my Plex, except for older shows. My main point was that high-quality mini-encodes (like Judas) save a lot of space with minimal quality loss, whilst having a similar bitrate to a 480p TV show or movie, and that you don’t need a whole ass datacentre to host a solid, but smaller collection and still get a good viewing experience. I would say I am sensitive to compression artefacts, and if I ever see those on a mini-encode I will immediately delete it, download something new and never use that group ever again.

I know mini-encodes (even Judas) get some hate, but personally, I think they look nearly identical to BD rips with the benefit of smaller file sizes. That means more anime stored, less need for transcoding (which will ruin the quality far more than a capable mini-encode), faster downloads for friends on the go (e.g at airports), and smaller offline files. It’s more efficient overall and works well across more use cases, especially with spotty internet.

That said, I’m open to revisiting BD rips. I mostly used them before switching to Judas. At the time, I didn’t notice a difference on my monitor, but I’m willing to compare again on a bigger screen. I’d appreciate any BD rip suggestions you think would show a clear quality gap compared to a Judas release.

Niiice set up! I have my own Jellyfin anime server myself, and building everything together was very rewarding. How did you fit all of your cover images in one photo like that--is it a Plex feature?

Do I need to have all anime download in my storage to set up a jellyfin server? or

3 upvotes on reddit
Big_Sir_1392 · 9 days ago

Basically, yes. I guess technically you could use cloud storage options like icloud for mac, or google drive, and Jellyfin pulls the media you want when you request it. But it's not ideal at all, difficult to build, and Jellyfin isn't really made for that.

I have my server set up on an old Lenovo Thinkpad in my home, and I use an external hard drive with a few terabytes on it (for now, that's it... so if my hard drive goes, so does my anime library). If I get more serious with it, I'd use a different system with unraid to basically keep my library constantly backed up.

I also have a VPN set up, and a few other trinkets, so that I can access my media from anywhere in the world on my personal laptop and phone. It's a blast.

Plex app is basically a browser with a built in MPV player so you can zoom in/out with ctrl+scroll down/up.
The MPV player thing is kinda cool - you can download shaders to the player that you can activate with a hotkey to upscale your anime in real time on the client side, or you can use Anime4k-GUI to save it as a file

if you really feel up to the task, you can always add the torrent again. if its really rare, sometimes ill even go the extra mile of matching the new folder/file name so it can connect.

minimum is always a 2:1 ratio for me to feel like I've done my bare minimum duty though

Absolutely right. I find that anime seeders are much better than for western stuff, its genuinely difficult to find a completely dead torrent for anime but for western stuff I keep having issues with nobody seeding it, very regularly.

Please pick a side 😭

29 upvotes on reddit

Plastic-Dependent · OP · 9 days ago

I only pick mini encodes that I know are high quality like Judas, I genuinely can't tell the difference between Judas encodes and BD BD rips (I used to only download bluray rips). I will occasionally do the ones that are suspiciously small if it's some crap isekai that I know has very little motion and is being internally animated at 720p anyways.

And everything is 1080p if it's available! I never get 480p if it isn't the highest resolution possible.

I've got a few people using the server with a very keen eye for compression artefacting, but never heard a complaint about it this way. Anime is a lot simpler than real life video content like movies, so decent mini encodes like Judas are easier to preserve the details with whilst taking up very little data. Judas group makes the file size as small as possible without compromising on detail from what I can understand, if a series has more complicated animation or needs more data for the bluray rip, they won't be afraid to make the file size double their usual encode bitrates.

This is what works best for me and my plex users, small and easy to stream files without compromising on detail which lets me store more anime and saves me money on electricity for transcoding to a lower bitrate if my clients are on bad internet, live transcoding will also always look worse at the same bitrate as a slow transcoded file with a low CF, so it ends up being a better or equal to experience in every regard.

I have two drives that are fine for now but I'd love to get more, but my little system only has 2 sata ports and 2 drive slots so I'd have to get a NAS, which is a bit too money and effort for me right now, but maybe in the future. Just out of curiosity what setup do you have your drives in, and if it's a NAS can you give me some tips on what I should get?

Plenty of AV1 sources. HEVC files these days are fantastic quality for the size as well. Anyone who thinks they can spot significant differences between that and the 264 version are kidding themselves.

San Japan 2025 Fandom Meetup?

Hi guyss, I’m attending the San Japan Anime Convention in San Antonio, Texas. I’ve been going for a few years, and last year I remember seeing some sort of fandom meet up of a bunch of people dressed as trolls, before I got into homestuck. Now I’m in the process of reading through Act 4, and me and my homestuck friend are wondering if this year there will be a fandom meet up or anything? If so, if there’s specific times & dates, I’ve never gone to a fandom meet up. Really would be awesome to meet others locally, or in general. If not, is there anyone here going? I’m especially excited this year.

Honestly, I say this every time, but it depends what you're into. What kind of programming do you like? Are you there to shop? Cosplay? Play games? See voice actors and industry professionals? Every con has its own vibe and it's own strengths.

9 upvotes on reddit
HaveCamerawilcosplay · 2 months ago

Agreed. Not to mention, some people think they know what a crowd is, until they try to get into a popular panel at a larger show. Or try to find a last minute seat for the cosplay contest.

Not to say that large cons aren’t fun in their own way (I treat them like trade shows for a niche industry, like cosplay and anime. Can’t get a better opportunity to network).

But smaller cons are the ones you make the memories you don’t forget, or the friends you have for decades.

So it’s a horse apiece.

I’ve been contemplating going to that con too. It’s just a 8 hour drive from me 😅 have you been and is it worth it? I love ribbon games, arcade cabinet games, panels, good food and cons with a social scene !

I go almost every year! But that’s cus it’s only a couple hours from me.

There are plenty of panels and it’s getting bigger every year I feel. They also did ribbons this last time but I didn’t understand them and so I only got one by accident the whole time lol.

IMO. Don’t go to katsucon until you’re an adult. It’s first and foremost a party con

Don't forget to factor travel costs money and time. You may be able to do AX for under $1500, but with airfare you're looking over $2k. If you're flying from back east; you will want to come in a day head because it is a full day lost to travel and may even necessitate an extra night if you want to see all 4 days and there isn't a red-eye available or they aren't appealing to do.

Set a budget; set your location; set your expectations then ask for advice - you'll get much better responses that way.

I get that, but the reason I suggest the other way around is simply because the worst would be finding a con that sounds perfect...then realizing no way in eff that you could afford it and that sucks.

Depends on your budget.

Unlimited budget? Go to Anime Expo (happening right now this weekend) or Anime NYC. They're the two supercons in North America with huge industry support, and there's nothing like them. It's possible to enjoy either con with a budget below $1500 but I recommend at least that much if you're attending paid events and are sightseeing the city.

A tier below those are the large fan cons with over 30K attendance, and regularly invite Japanese guests and bands. Largest one in Canada is Otakuthon in Montréal with 35K. Otakon (Washington DC), Anime Central (Chicago), and Anime Weekend Atlanta are about that size, too.

upcoming anime conventions 2024

Key Considerations for Upcoming Anime Conventions in 2024:

  1. Location: Identify conventions that are accessible to you. Major cities often host larger events, but smaller conventions can also offer unique experiences.

  2. Dates: Check the specific dates for each convention, as they can vary widely. Some conventions may overlap, so plan accordingly.

  3. Guest Appearances: Look for conventions featuring popular guests, such as voice actors, artists, and industry professionals. This can enhance your experience.

  4. Activities and Panels: Review the schedule for panels, workshops, and activities that interest you. Some conventions offer exclusive screenings or special events.

  5. Exhibitors and Vendors: Consider the variety of vendors and exhibitors present. A diverse marketplace can enhance your shopping experience for merchandise and collectibles.

Notable Upcoming Conventions in 2024:

  • Anime Expo (AX): July 4-7, 2024, in Los Angeles, CA. One of the largest anime conventions in North America.

  • Otakon: July 19-21, 2024, in Washington, D.C. Focuses on anime, manga, and Asian pop culture.

  • New York Comic Con (NYCC): October 10-13, 2024, in New York City, NY. While not exclusively anime, it features a significant anime presence.

  • Anime Boston: March 22-24, 2024, in Boston, MA. A well-established convention with a variety of programming.

  • Katsucon: February 16-18, 2024, in National Harbor, MD. Known for its beautiful setting and vibrant community.

Recommendation: Plan your convention schedule early, as popular events can sell out quickly. Consider booking accommodations in advance and checking for any early bird registration discounts.
