What Redditors are Saying

Benefits of Using a Bidet Attachment

Improved Hygiene and Cleanliness

Bidets offer superior cleanliness compared to toilet paper alone. Users report feeling "squeaky clean" after using a bidet, as it effectively removes fecal matter with a jet of water [1:1][3:4]. This thorough cleaning can prevent irritation and infections, such as UTIs and yeast infections, by reducing the need for excessive wiping [5:1].

Cost-Effective and Environmentally Friendly

Using a bidet reduces the amount of toilet paper needed, which can lead to significant cost savings over time [1]. Additionally, bidets are more environmentally friendly than wet wipes, which contribute to waste and plumbing issues [1].

Comfort and Convenience

Many users appreciate the comfort features of bidets, such as heated seats and water, which can be particularly beneficial during colder months [2:7][2:8]. The ability to feel "shower fresh" at any time without syncing bathroom trips with showers is another convenience that users enjoy [1:7].

Health Benefits

Bidets can alleviate discomfort associated with medical conditions like constipation and hemorrhoids [4]. Some models even have enema functions, which can help relieve severe constipation [3:5]. For women, bidets can provide relief during menstrual cycles by cleaning and cooling the area [2:1].

Accessibility and Ease of Use

Bidet attachments are generally affordable and easy to install on existing toilets, making them accessible to a wide range of users [3]. Portable bidets are available for those who want the convenience while traveling [1:9][2:3].

Considerations Beyond the Discussions

While bidets offer numerous benefits, some users express concerns about water pressure and spray direction, particularly regarding hygiene for women [5:6][5:8]. It's important to choose a bidet model that allows for adjustments in spray angle and pressure to ensure proper use and avoid potential hygiene issues.

ORIGINAL POST

Being an American, learning about the bidet was more than a culture shock to me, it was an eye opener. It’s logically the superior option compared to other methods of cleaning. It’s cheaper and cleaner than only using toilet paper, and significantly cheaper than using wet wipes. Bidets don’t don’t make toilet paper useless though, you will still need to wipe at least a few times, but you will find yourself using a minuscule amount of toilet paper than without a bidet or wipes. It’s not some “silly European, Japanese bathroom design quirks ” it’s just logic!

So if you’ve ever been reluctant on getting a bidet, just remember you are technically wasting time and money without one, PLUS some of them are easy peasy to install, and for those who may doubt their abilities to do so… don’t fret! you’ll find it way easier than you thought!

A few years ago we took my 92 year old Dad to visit Taiwan and Bangkok. My worldly brother made all of the awesome accommodations.

The first hotel had these Toto toilets with a complex electronic bidet feature. We’ve never experienced anything like it. After figuring it out we fell in love with spraying our fannies and vowed to look into installing one.

Once we returned, instead of the expensive electronic Toto version, I found a simple bidet to install. Within a few months I installed Luxe Neo 120 bidets and seats in each of our three toilets.

Anything else is uncivilized.

Save more and use washcloths. Bin for clean ones, bin for used ones. Wash/sanitize, reuse.

Let's do the pro thing. After using the jet to remove the majority of the decal matter, use the jet plus your finger to scrub off any remaining bits until squeaky clean. Then your washcloth is just to dry you and shouldn't pick up fecal matter. Meaning you can use it multiple times before changing it, and you are far cleaner. The cleanest you can be.

Unnecessary. The bidet and some TP works perfectly fine without fingering your bunghole

This is insane and overkill, if you’re using a bidet properly there should be zero fecal matter on the outside. Cleaning the inside of your bum hole is completely unnecessary.

Wait, what? You use your finger to scrub off shit but somehow, it's more sanitary than using paper? I'm sorry, that's really gross.

My bidet has never missed any poo, the jet of water gets it all. I can't imagine needing to use my fingers. If there were any issue I could turn up the power, but that also could irritate my anus. Also the water is heated, so that helps too. For the ultimate clean though, getting some soap up there would be good.

Considering there are supposedly people who don’t even touch their butt because they think it makes them gay (not sure how common that really is), it’s not surprising that talking about butt stuff is so verboten that something GOOD about your butt would be swept under the rug along with everything else.

PSA for Ladies on the Benefits of Using a Bidet

Posted by thecourttt · in r/TwoXChromosomes · 4 years ago

Hi,

Keeping it positive today. I'm American and I've been living in Korea for the past three years. Something that Koreans take a lot more seriously than Americans is personal hygiene (and this goes double for men lol. American men need to do better but that's a discussion for another day haha). In most of Asia, it's no secret to anyone traveling or living here that bidets are the norm, and I have also bought one for my home because of the benefits I really feel strongly about. I find it really odd that when I mention how great a bidet is, a lot of my Western friends or family will be either uncomfortable or make jokes about it. Particularly for women, though, I want to explain why I think this is a wonderful thing to use in your home and your whole hygiene routine:

  1. Clean. Ass. Pussy. For real, the number of posts I read on forums like r/relationships and the like about people who didn't thoroughly wipe, etc. is honestly alarming. For every time you've ever thought "wow, I just took a shit and I wish I could shower," this is the product for you. Isn't it the worst when you actually just took a shower and then nature calls? Get a bidet!

  2. Period management. Wow. Wow. Another moment in my day when I've gotta clean that shit up. It's messy, it's not pretty, and without a shower, it's never quite as clean as you'd like, right? Well, not anymore. Mini pussy shower before you walk back into the real world. Especially since I wear a menstrual cup, I love that I can pop that sucker in, full blast wash, and I don't need a pad now to worry that I didn't thoroughly wipe there.

  3. Less waste than wet wipes and toilet paper. That's it. That's all. It's also much gentler on your tush.

  4. Hygiene and your health. I consider myself lucky not to have suffered many health issues, but I've also read a lot of horror stories here about ingrown hairs, cysts, infection of all sorts, and just pure horror. Our lady bits can be a breeding ground for bad bacteria just due to biology, and shaving and waxing can also increase the risk of ingrowns, etc. I can only imagine a bidet could SAVE YOUR LIFE if life and death just boiled down to keeping it clean. I recall all the ladies here who say "pee after sex" but I'd like to add "AND WASH UR PUSSY!" and with a bidet, this is an easy task if a shower isn't on your mind.

Anyway, I just wanna share the knowledge. It's been so nice having one at home, and it was very cheap online and easy to install alone. Mine has two lines so it runs to hot water too :)

Don't settle for a half-washed ass, ladies. Since buying a bidet TP feels archaic and inefficient. Peace and love; throw me your questions if you are bidet-curious~^^

Folks, seriously, get yourself a bidet. They’re affordable and fit on pretty much any toilet. If you want to go all out, get a standalone one.

You can wipe as much as you want with toilet paper, but trust me, once you use a bidet, you’ll be amazed. There’s clean, and then there’s squeaky clean. So many people are walking around all day with swamp ass!

Edit: It's awesome to see so many other bidet fans! I’ll keep spreading the word until every butt has one. They’re only about $50 on Amazon, and I’ve had mine for over 5 years with zero issues. Honestly, I thought they were nonsense at first. I got one as a gift, tucked it away in the closet for years, and then one day I decided to install it. It's super easy, no plumbing experience required. Start on level 1, though – don’t go overboard! Trust me, your rear end and everyone around you will thank you!

Some of the electric models have an enema function that will stream warm water directly into the canal. And yes, some manual bidets have streams strong enough and accurate enough to produce the same effect. Even the Aquaus 360, a handheld is capable for some (depending on individual water pressure); my water pressure isn't strong enough.

I do miss being able to give myself a quick enema when I need it. I'm on medications that cause severe constipation and my life revolves around having a movement every 3 days. And that's after taking 350 mg of stool softeners a day, eating broccoli every day, and no meat or dairy.

Bidets are life changing

Does anyone else agree that bidets are life changing? I chuckle sometimes when I think how a small device can make such a big impact on your life and health. They come in all shapes and forms in everyone’s price ranges. From hundreds of dollars to less than $20 for some of the handhelds which can work equally as effective. I own both types and enjoy all of them. Can’t see how I lived through life without bidets. They can help with many medical conditions including constipation, hemorrhoids, itchy booty or simply if you want to maintain a clean and healthy lifestyle.

Please go out and get a bidet if you haven’t yet. They are one of the cheapest things you can do for yourself yet life changing and will definitely improve your quality of life. The world will be a better place if everyone used a bidet.

I hate my bidet. I can never get the water to perfectly shoot where I need it to go. I end up dripping all over the the place which causes me to get wet leg or pants. You still need to use toilet paper and even dabbing I've still gotten drips and there have been instances that I had toilet paper break off and stick to my vagina.

Rip. Yeah you're still supposed to pat dry with a bidet because water is wet. I can understand the TP being annoying, but how hard are you wiping if it's balling up like that? Pat dry, don't forcefully wipe. It's just nice not have poop or blood smearing when you can rinse it instead. Using so much TP trying to wipe up the crime scene during my cycle caused so much irritation owww. I like the bidet we got because it has adjustment buttons and dials. Theres a setting for "feminine" use that re-angles it right where it needs to go for me, so helpful on my cycle because I can't wear tampons or cups 😭there is also a water pressure dial that changes the force of the water. Idk who is using it at full force, but godspeed to that person whoever they may be because LOL WTF

Any-Confidence-7133 · 1 month ago

My $50 one is a bit wonky and our water pressure is controlled by the condo so sometimes it's high, other times it's low. I've had to adjust if I sit forwards or further back on the seat to account for this even though the bidet has a dial to adjust the pressure. And I ALWAYS hold some tp in the front thigh/toilet seat/thigh gap other wise water has been know to spray through there. Considering all that, I still love my wonky bidet.

I can literally give myself an enema with mine. Its the Luxe bidet neo something or another idk. It was one of the highest rated on Amazon. I guess if I did it again I'd get one that you aimed with your hand rather than one that is just on the toilet because you have to sit perfect to hit the right spot

So women are supposed to wipe front-to-back. I have concerns that the standard bidet affixed to the back of the toilet would cause fecal material to travel forwards, resulting in a UTI or vaginitis. Perhaps a handheld bidet would be okay?

12 upvotes on reddit
DarkWhisper888 · 1 month ago

I’ve always wondered this as well! Shooting 💩water straight from the back right into my vagina seems like a terrible idea. I used a bidet at my friends house and that’s exactly what it did. Thankfully I only peed that day on my trial run but it really was an unpleasant experience.

9 upvotes on reddit
Ok_Tumbleweed_7677 · 1 month ago

Surprisingly stopped having irritation and UTIs and yeast infections since getting a bidet. Being able to rinse everything thoroughly instead of wiping incessantly during my cycle has helped so much. The only time I got yeast infections while having a bidet was due to my IUD and yeast growth stuck on the device. Haven't had one since getting that removed a while ago thank goodness.

I convinced my partner to buy a bidet BECAUSE I was getting so much irritation down there from dry wiping alone. Rinsing and patting dry is so much gentler. I was a bit nervous about the physics of the water and the particles, but the way our bidet works, it has two angled settings for standard and "feminine" rinse. Also has a dial for water pressure adjustment so you can kind of control how far the stream goes. I have found most success by doing a process of thoroughly rinsing and ALWAYS using the "feminine" rinse setting at the end, then drying from front to back.

How do you use a bidet and what are good brands of bidets? Are they just a luxury item? Does it replace wiping? Can you poop in it? Is it an actual toilet?

I'm an ignorant American and I've only ever wiped. I have very little knowledge about what other countries do and use, other than I know some use bidets, some use holes in the ground, etc... I came across an instagram/TikTok post of an Italian guy explaining to his girlfriend why a bidet is better than wiping, and I was sold. After watching the video, I decided that I would like a bidet. I looked up a few YouTube videos, but I'm still confused. Is it just an attachment? Is it a whole toilet? Does it replace wiping? Can you poop in it? Are they for both men and women? A bidet is basically just a water nozzle. You can attach them to your toilet and use it like a sink sprayer or you can get toilet seat toppers that go on your toilet and do the water thing but are also heated (like a spa for your goods). There are also stand alone bidets that you sit on after the deed is done. Don’t poop in these!

2 upvotes on reddit
pPpPpx_ · 3 years ago

it's like a garden hose but for the toilet. the ones I see in public toilets where I'm at are made up of a flexible metal tube and a head that allows you to hold and press to control the water. this is attached to the pipe of the existing toilet. personally, I prefer drying off before wearing back my bottoms. if you're at home, a towel specifically for the bathroom could be used just like your bath towel! if you're using a public toilet, could just dry off with a tissue after using the bidet.

I'd suggest just looking for the attachment (a tube with the nozzle head - perhaps a c-shape holder too (kind of like a toothbrush holder) so you can hang the nozzle head beside the toilet bowl) as you can easily install it on your own.

you could even use it when washing your toilet if the tubing is long enough and usually the water pressure is pretty good. it can direct water to the nooks and crannies to remove whatever that's sitting in the corner and consolidate them at the drainage area.

You can get bidet attachments for the toilet, as opposed to having a whole separate bidet installed. They're not terribly expensive.

Are the attachments as good as a whole bidet? What's the benefit of having a whole bidet versus an attachment? It seems like there's two separate markets dedicated to either options. This is a whole new world to me.

3 upvotes on reddit
Nynaeve91 · 3 years ago

I wouldn't know, I own neither, but I'm gonna hazard a guess and say it depends on the brand for either one. Probably a good thing to Google. There may be a comparison somewhere online.

I think the biggest difference is going to be cost and access. For a lot of folks, a whole separate bidet would require a bathroom remodel to make room for it, plus get it the correct piping.

AnaisNot · 3 years ago

In other countries sometimes the bidet is a separate bowl completely— more like a sink on the ground. Here in the US it’s easier to buy something that attaches to the toilet, sprays your butthole and then you dry off. tushy sells them for a good price and it’s a major game changer!

I feel so much cleaner, I don’t feel like I have to change my panties 3x a day 😅 they’re super easy to put in, I did both of ours (but I’m really glad I did them before my baby belly got too big. I’m Muslim and in our religion this is why we wash after using the restroom and we have bidets installed. It also helps prevent hemorrhoids btw even if you a c section you still can get a hemorrhoid. However, be very careful if it’s self installed if you have a vaginal tear after delivery because it can be painful if the pressure is too high. The water bottle they give you at the hospital works the same way if you don’t want to install a bidet.

I am so happy more Americans are coming around to bidets, it should be standard.

Definitely prefer the hose style bidets for ladies since we need to clean from different angles and areas. The hose is usually more gentle than the installed ones that spray at slightly different angles. And with the hoses you can use them on your kids as you potty train to get them used to it as well.

The Toto Washlet Bidet Seat is a perfect addition to any existing toilet also. It just requires a GFCI outlet by the toilet. They’re at Costco now for $300.

Has bidet helped with any of your medical issues?

Posted by godwithinphoenix · in r/bidets · 1 month ago

I used to suffer from minor hemorrhoid itching. After using bidets, the symptoms have been drastically reduced and completely eliminated on most days. Bidets really are a miracle that aren’t recommended enough by the medical community. Much better than having to stick a tube up your butt applying ointments.

I suffered from chronic swamp ass and sometimes I would wipe and wipe and wipe… still poop. These medical issues have now subsided with the bidet.

My wife has Crohn’s and has constant diarrhea. It burns deep inside. She said it’s like knife blades. A bidet with lots of pressure is the only relief she gets. We disconnect and and take it with us on our two week vacation.

I bought a bidet attachment for my toilet, and I'm in love

Posted by BriefEquivalent4910 · in r/hygiene · 1 year ago

I am nearly 50 years old, and American which explains why I have no previous experience of bidet usage.

I would like to publicly ask all my ancestors why we're so stupid. This thing is great and I never want to be without it.

My toilet paper usage is plummeting now that I can clean most of the BM mess before ever reaching for it. I just had my first period since purchasing it, and wow is that a nice way to get cleaner and fresher during the part of the month that is anything but. It's also nice for post-sex cleanup.

Anyway it cost me about $20 on Amazon and my husband installed it in less than 20 minutes. Get one! You'll never look back!

ETA since I've had many requests for the one I bought SAMODRA Bidet Attachment,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZRCMX6Q?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I heard a comment after someone saying that after using the bidet for a first time; that they felt the urge to smoke a cigarette afterwards.

This one homophobic dude I used to know was going on and on about how nasty a bidet was. But let me tell you, once he tried it, he’d sit on that thing for at least 10 minutes before exiting the bathroom. 💀

So North America didnt get in to bidets because "way back when" it was considered only for WHORES and appropriate only in BROTHELS, so much like many things ruined by puritan americans, including brealfast that isnr cereal, and spicey foods, many things were considered "immoral" and shunned by proper society.

Is there anything religion in North America cant ruin?

Do you have a link to anything regarding this? That's a really weird take but being an amateur history scholar has taught me that nothing is too weird to be possible or true.

I'm a religious person myself but I agree puritanism is a uniquely American scourge that has screwed our culture in many ways for centuries from the Salem witch trials to breastfeeding mothers being attacked in public. And it became uniquely American because the civilized countries kicked them out so they went and founded their own. I generally like my country but we do have our flaws.

To be fair, the Puritans that came to America via the Mayflower were fringe extremists who didn't think that the Church of England was Protestant enough. They wanted to make their own church, with stricter adherence to Protestant ideology.

We recently had one installed during a bathroom remodel. It was something I really wanted. It's the master bath. My husband felt we didn't need it and made a face. I overruled him and we got it. He loves it. No more nasty wipes. First time ever, he admitted I was right.

So I recently moved to Japan and my apartment came with the typical functional japanese toilet seat. Heater, Bidet function the whole 9 yards.

I was apprehensive to try it as ive never used a bidet before and didnt know what it would be like. But damn does it make a difference. Its a werid sensation at first to get used to. But its very clean and after a while sorta becomes natural. 10/10 would recommend.

Double edged sword. Its clearly superior. But at the same time when you go to places that don't have one and you have to wipe it just doesn't feel clean

Ok think for a second. If you had poop all over your hand, would you just wipe it off and call it good? Or wash your hand? A bidet is like washing your hands if your hands were buttholes.

what are the benefits of using a bidet attachment?

Benefits of Using a Bidet Attachment:

  1. Improved Hygiene: Bidets provide a more thorough cleaning than toilet paper alone, reducing the risk of irritation and infections.

  2. Environmental Impact: Using a bidet can significantly reduce toilet paper consumption, which is better for the environment. It helps decrease deforestation and waste.

  3. Cost-Effective: While there is an initial investment, bidet attachments can save money over time by reducing the need for toilet paper.

  4. Comfort: Many users find bidets to be gentler and more comfortable, especially for those with sensitive skin or conditions like hemorrhoids.

  5. Ease of Use: Bidets can be easier for individuals with mobility issues, as they reduce the need for reaching or wiping.

  6. Adjustable Features: Many bidet attachments come with adjustable water pressure and temperature settings, allowing for a customizable experience.

  7. Health Benefits: Bidets can help with certain medical conditions, such as postpartum recovery, urinary tract infections, and anal fissures, by providing gentle cleansing.

Recommendation: If you're considering a bidet attachment, look for one with adjustable settings and easy installation. Popular options include the TUSHY Classic and the Bio Bidet BB-600, both of which offer good features and user satisfaction.
