What Redditors are Saying

Best Luxury Hotels in Seoul

TL;DR

  • Signiel Seoul: Known for its luxurious rooms and central location [5:1].
  • Shilla Hotel: Offers a blend of luxury with Korean tradition [1:1], [5:5].
  • Park Hyatt Seoul: Great service and convenient location near Coex [2:1].
  • Josun Palace: Newer hotel with excellent breakfast [2:5].

Signiel Seoul

Signiel Seoul is frequently recommended for its luxurious accommodations and central location. Situated in the Lotte World Tower, it offers stunning views of the city and easy access to nearby attractions. Guests have praised the well-laid-out rooms, luxurious bathrooms, and excellent finishes [5:1]. However, some have noted that the location might not be ideal for tourists seeking proximity to traditional tourist spots [2:3].

Shilla Hotel

The Shilla Hotel is another top choice for luxury in Seoul, offering high-class amenities with a touch of Korean tradition [1:1]. It has an "old money" luxury feel, exceptional food, service, and bakery [5:5]. However, its location is somewhat remote, though they provide a shuttle from the subway station [5:5].

Park Hyatt Seoul

The Park Hyatt Seoul is praised for its fantastic service and convenient location near Coex [2:1]. While it may not be the most sprawling hotel, guests have found the suites lovely and well-maintained [2:4]. The downside is its distance from major tourist attractions like the palaces [2:1].

Josun Palace

Josun Palace is a newer addition to Seoul's luxury hotel scene, offering modern amenities and one of the most impressive breakfast spreads [2:5]. Though it's considered far nicer than some older hotels, its location might not be ideal for tourists [4:1].

Other Notable Mentions

  • Four Seasons Seoul: Offers a great Korean spa and is conveniently located, but some guests have found the service subpar [2:6].
  • JW Marriott Seoul: Recommended for its luxury and larger property size, with good chances for suite upgrades [4:1], [4:2].
  • RYSE: Located in Hongdae, known for its boutique style and proximity to nightlife [3:4], [3:7].

ORIGINAL POST

We’re going to be visiting South Korea for the first time next month, and for our last night in Seoul we would love to splurge on a nice hotel. I wanted to come on here to ask if anyone could help point me in the right direction.

Try the Shilla Hotel in Seoul. Total high class luxury hotel with a touch of Korean tradition.

Or, the Lotte World Tower Hotel. The tallest building in Seoul with great view of the city.

We just stayed in one of the premium suites at the Park Hyatt Seoul and it was fantastic. Really good service, easy valet, and essentially connected via the subway to Coex, which we didn’t care about for stores but had a massive luxury food hall (and probably the most higher end shops in the city if you do want to shop). Downsides are an odd elevator layout and the fact that you’re far from certain major tourist attractions (like the palaces).

2nd this, Park Hyatt is an exceptional hotel and is usually my go to when I stay in Korea. Also amazing location

FS and shinla are the classic nice hotels but honestly dated compared to the better new hotels and not in the center of "happening" places in seoul. the best new hotel is Signiel (Lotte) but location-wise it's not super close to the places you'd want to visit.

the fairmont is relatively new and in a great location to get to places in seoul, and connected to two MASSIVE malls that you might want to spend hours in if you like shopping. or the conrad, which is right next to the fairmont. the fairmont is newer and nicer though.

All these answers are outdated. FS is fine and the Park Hyatt is nice enough, but one of the most underwhelming PHs in the world. The Josun Palace is far nicer than both and brand new with one is the most incredible breakfast spreads I've seen. And Marriott!

I don’t know about outdated, we were in the Park Hyatt in June 2023. It’s not a sprawling hotel, but for a city hotel, we thought the suites were lovely. Was it the greatest hotel of all time, no. But it seemed to me like the luxury hotel scene in Seoul is really just not that built up. The Park Hyatt was well maintained, rooms great, and lounge restaurant very convenient. We didn’t love being in Gangnam, but being near Coex was fantastic.

Four Seasons has an amazing Korean spa but their service (especially concierge) is very subpar. It’s conveniently located. Rooms are okay, were a bit underwhelming imo considering it’s a newer build.

Four seasons is nice. It’s also a short walk to Seoul Station. Public transport in infinity better than grabbing a kakao taxi.

I’ve also been to Korea multiple times. The stupid spicy chicken on a stick street food is amazing. One of the best things I’ve ever eaten. Try the street food.

Looking for a luxury boutique hotel in Seoul (ideally not an international chain)

Posted by bananasaurus_ · in r/koreatravel · 2 years ago

I'll be coming to Seoul from Brooklyn for a long weekend in November and looking for a place to stay thats central and walkable. I still haven't decide on a neighborhood, but my itinerary will primarily consistent of cocktail bars (especially ones that aren't purely directed at tourists - such as Bar Cham), authentic street food, and ideally some underground techno raves / clubs. I'm not particularly into shopping or high-end dining.

I'd love to get some recommendations for a luxury (doesn't have to be 5 star but can) hotel that maybe has a more authentic Korean feel (or at least have it be a Korean chain). I was lookin at the Four Seasons, for example, but honestly it looks somewhat soulless and with no local character.

Edit: Omg keep the cocktail bar recs coming too! Thanks so much all! 🥰🥰

Hotels in Seoul - What is the best from these 4 options?

Posted by pleuvoir_2019 · in r/marriott · 1 year ago

From your previous experience, which hotel from these 4 offered you the best experience? We are flying out to Korea in 3 weeks for New Years and I am planning on using SNAs (I don't know how beneficial my Plat Elite status will be)

  • Le Meridien Myeongdong
  • JW Marriott Seoul
  • JW Marriott Dongdaemun
  • Josun Palace Seoul

If there is any other hotel that you want to recommend, please let us know as well!

TIA :)

For tourist stuff

  • Le Meridien Myeongdong
  • JW Marriott Dongdaemun

is more appealing to me personally. places like Euljiro, SeongSu, Anguk. are more accessible and I personally didn't see much reason to go GangNam (south of the river)

I stayed at Courtyard by Marriott Seoul Namdaemun (which is close by Le Meridien and Dongdaemun) and rooms were good and really liked the breakfast options as Platinum member breakfast was included at 2nd floor buffet and I was happy with lounge but never experienced other lounges before so nothing to compare to.

First time experiencing Marriott in Seoul as Plat and I enjoyed it myself.

I feel like rooms in Le Meridien are a bit small unless you get upgraded using SNAs. Le Meridien looks new and modern though so that is a plus.

if it's your first time in seoul and you want to actually go out and about, DO NOT stay at Josun Palace. It's a fantastic property (best Marriott in Korea) but terrible for tourists. Great for staycations.

If you really want a suite and have best chances of SNA clearing, JW Marriott Seoul is your best bet. It's a large property with many suites. I had 4 nights of SNA cleared for my stay in October. The property itself is not the most inspiring but it feels homey with comforting decor, and the best is one of the best beds I've slept in. Breakfast and lounge aren't anything crazy but I enjoyed it (main breakfast staple is bulgogi + rice + some variant of kimchi). If a gym access is a priority for you, it doesn't get any better than staying at the JW. Location wise not central but there are two subway lines right under the building, along with bus stops (express bus from Myeongdong area stops here), and if you plan on exploring other parts of Korea the regional express bus terminal is there as well.

LM is a great property with great food for brekkie and lounge (probably one of the best for marriott in Korea). Getting SNA cleared for 4 nights may be challenging, as is getting upgrades. Location wise very central and easy to get around.

pleuvoir_2019 · OP · 1 year ago

I really hope our SNA request will be approved but we are booking for 12/30-01/02 so yeah.. :) LM rooms looked a little small compared to JW Marriott Seoul so I had to tick LM off the list.

FS Seoul, JW Marriott Jeju, Josun Palace Hotel Reviews

Posted by jecytc_0 · in r/FATTravel · 6 months ago

Hello everyone, wanted to report back after getting all of the helpful suggestions on where to stay in South Korea. We traveled as a couple in our 30’s in March 2025 and booked with a TA. Am an ambassador elite with Marriott and learned that TA > Marriott status this trip.

 Four Seasons Seoul
Room: 8.5/10
Facilities: 9/10
Food: 9/10
Service: 8/10
Overall: 8.5/10

Rate: $639.82/night
When: 6 nights
Booked: Executive/Club Room – 1 King
Received: Executive Club Room – 1 King, no upgrade provided

Tl;dr – As good as it gets in Seoul. Highlights: Breakfast buffet, club lounge, Korean sauna, and location. Misses: Service, communication amongst staff, and housekeeping issues. Overall experience was positive and would come back. But several service misses and corporate vibe of the hotel keeps it from being a true, luxury stay.

  JW Marriott Jeju
Room: 7/10
Facilities: 8/10
Food: 7/10
Service: 7/10
Overall: 7/10

Rate: $997.67/night
When: 3 nights
Booked: Premier Ocean Suite with Balcony – 1 King Received: Premier Ocean Suite Panorama, upgrade confirmed using Marriott NUA

Tl;dr – Would not stay here again. Highlights: Location, hiking trails, pools, and hotel programming (Marriott happy hour, sweet potato campfire). Misses: Housekeeping, service, staffing, and room. Very style over function. Service was off and left a lot to be desired. Rooms are not well laid out, and for being only 2 years old, facilities and rooms already showing signs of age and use. The AC did not work the whole time we were there, and the provided fans and humidifier did not do much, they recommended we sleep with the windows open which was not great for sound.

  Josun Palace
Room: 9.5/10
Facilities: 8/10
Food: 8/10
Service: 9/10*
Overall: 8.5/10

Rate: $952.62/night
When: 2 nights
Booked: Grand Master Suite
Received: Grand Master Suite, no upgrade provided

Tl;dr – Would stay here again if we need to be on the Gangnam side of Seoul. Highlights: Room, views, and overall vibe. Misses: Korean sauna, service mishap, AC would not get cold enough, & flickering lights. Our suite was laid out more out like apartment suite, which we really liked. Breakfast buffet not as good as 4S and Korean sauna is old school and does not allow any visible tattoos, which hampers the experience for those of us who have tattoos. *Outside of one huge service mishap, had an overall good experience here. Would recommend.

We stayed in a club room at FS Seoul a couple of years ago and while the location and property were nice, we also had some service and miscommunication issues. Things just fell through the cracks there a bit.

Yup, that was our experience as well at the 4S Seoul. The communication amongst the staff was not as seamless as other 4S’. Had an issue that was addressed via Sarah, our TA, and then magically everyone started being nicer and a hotel manager appeared at our dinner and introduced herself on day 4. Why none of this happens without having to report up is beyond me.

We stayed at the Four Seasons Seoul and the JW in Jeju on a recent trip to Korea.  The Four Seasons was a nice, generic type experience.  We loved the JW in Jeju.  We were upgraded by Sarah’s team and the brunch was insane!  It included caviar and loads of seafood and the best part was, it was free.  I have a feeling it had something to do with booking with Sarah.  Loved the yellow stone bath tub in the room.  The staff were also super friendly.  I’m sure the AC malfunctioning ruined it for you.  I was surprised you didn’t have a good time there but that sounds like a real fiasco.

1 upvotes on reddit
jecytc_0 · OP · 6 months ago

I’m glad that you had a great time! I think our situation at the JW Jeju was marred by the fact that there didn’t seem to be a reason behind a lot of things - the “why?” was missing. Why did the breakfast butter need truffle oil? Why did the operator feel the need to call me back and argue with me that housekeeping did indeed stop by and my DND was on when I’m 95% sure it wasn’t and I’d turned on the housekeeping requested green button, and force me from then on to take a photo of each time I left the room for proof. Why was the food so focused on being rich & decadent with no thought on anything else - 50,000won shaved ice, floating fat bubbles and oil in the galbi tang?! Why did the servers let multiple tables leave mid service, us included, because of how slow they were at servicing tables? - a big issue bc it’s a set course so can’t move on till everything cleared & ready for the next. Why did we sometimes get evening turndown treats and some days not?

Sorry, still have a lot of thoughts & feelings about our experience there. I could write a novel! Hah

Room wise I actually like Shilla hotel over signiel and FS and as Shilla had this old money luxury feel throughout the hotel and an amazing food, service and bakery. Only con was that the location felt a bit remote - they have a shuttle from the subway station.

5 upvotes on reddit
Dull-Woodpecker3900 · 6 months ago

I will consider Shilla for my next trip. The suite does not look bad at all. A downside of Signiel is your ears pop every time you go up because the lobby is maybe 70 or 80 floors up.

3 upvotes on reddit
jecytc_0 · OP · 6 months ago

Thanks for the tip, will probably be back during the summer and will consider it for the next time!

May I ask what stood out for you at the Signiel over the others?

4 upvotes on reddit
Dull-Woodpecker3900 · 6 months ago

Summer in Seoul is a bit much… the heat and humidity is crazy. Would highly recommend a full time driver on standby.

Signiel is probably my favorite because the rooms are actually quite good well laid out even in the mid category, nice finishes, bathroom is luxurious and closets are very nice. I had a suite but we also had another mid category room for family. During the blooming of the cherry blossoms the whole lake is surrounded by them. It’s also very central and you can get to the most interesting neighborhoods within 10-15 min.

I think overall it’s still the best offering in the city. I’m sure at some point a real luxury hotel will come in.

The Hyatt is a small but stylish property, the rooms feel like an Aman but the location really sucks.

jecytc_0 · OP · 6 months ago

Booking under the TA gave us breakfast, a 4S Seoul candle, access to the Korean sauna at 4S, $100 stay credit, welcome amenity, a performative visit from a hotel manager, and a couple of personal stay requests that always get fulfilled when traveling under the TA.

Also their knowledge & guidance - e.g. is it worth paying extra for the club rooms at 4S Seoul? Yes. The answer is yes.

6 upvotes on reddit
Well_tempered_209 · 6 months ago

I see. That’s impressive. On the other hand Amex plat card would take care of breakfast and $100 credit too, and guaranteed 4pm check-out which tends to be very useful.

Best Hotel in Seoul for Platinum Perks & Points Redemption?

Posted by Independent_Still203 · in r/marriott · 5 months ago

I’m headed to Seoul in October with my family. We’re staying in Insadong for the first week. For the second week, it will be just me and my husband, and we’re looking to move to a nicer hotel, take advantage of the points I’ve accrued, and utilize my Platinum Bonvoy status.

Which Seoul Marriott hotel would you recommend for a points redemption?

Which offers the best lounge / breakfast?

This will be my first visit to Seoul, but my husband used to live here many years ago. We’ve been researching, and it seems like the there are mixed thoughts.

Right now, we are eyeing JW Marriott Gangnam (pros: lounge, cons: location), Westin Josun (pros: location, cons: dated rooms), and Le Meridien (pros: location, cons: unsure about perks). The Plaza’s rooms seem a bit too cramped for a week-long stay for us.

Thanks for any suggestions or insights!

I absolutely love the Plaza Seoul. Their breakfast isn't included but absolutely worth it. The food in the lounge at night is better than you get at most restaurants in the US. The concierge there was amazing. We were having a hard time buying tickets for a show online and she couldn't get our credit card to work either so she whipped out her own credit card and bought the tickets for us. We paid her back of course but she was truly a lifesaver. Pool is gorgeous and free for elites, otherwise you have to pay. Also really great location, so much is always happening in Seoul Plaza. Great access to metro and buses and walking around Myeongdong. The rooms are mostly jr suites too, so you have a nice sitting area and seperate sleeping area.

We stayed at Le Meridien two years ago; I thought the lounge was fantastic. But then, it was my only lounge outside the US, so I don't have much to compare. The only problem was that the food was so good, that we didn't go out to eat as much as we'd have liked :)

I spent a couple nights at the attached Moxy; it was surprisingly good, and had a nice breakfast for platinums, but it doesn't really compare to the higher end hotels.

We stayed a couple nights at the Ryze, which we really liked. Much more fun atmosphere than Le Meridien, fantastic suite upgrades, nice welcome gift. No lounge unfortunately, but the breakfasts were outstanding. Cool, younger neighborhood.

If you get down to Busan, we stayed at the Fairfield right on the beach, got fantastic suite upgrades with huge views over the bay. Loved that the showers had big glass walls looking out over the bay. Oddly though, no breakfast for elites, which seems so backwards coming from the US. But then, it really seemed to have no relation to Fairfields in the US in any real sense.

We mostly stayed at the Westin Myeondong and always had great experience. We are platinum so had lounge access with decent foods but the free breakfast at the restaurant was outstanding. The spa/pool was also nice. Location is super good but the hotel is a little old overall.

For the upcoming trip (September) we are co side ring JW Marriott Gangnam. Questions for those who’ve stayed there: for elite members (platinum and above) do they provide free lounge access and free breakfast like other JWs? How about access to pool and spa/sauna? Any pros/cons we should know of? Thanks.

Best Seoul hotels - Fairmont?

Visiting Seoul for the first time and am trying to decide on the best hotel to balance sightseeing but also a staycation in the hotel itself. Am a diamond member so am considering fairmont to take advantage of the club lounge, but I’ve read the location is a bit average so may not be worth it? Also contemplating the Sofitel.

What do people think - any particular standout hotels and/or club lounges?

Sofitel location is bit out of way for most touristic area
I heard Fairmont Seoul was bit underwhelming but it's getting better. It's in the financial corporation area where things get super busy during weekdays but become dead quiet in the evenings/ most of weekends. Hotel itself is just avg but I usually stay at Novotel Gangnam due to it's location and easy access to public transit, and i also mostly do things in gangnam. If you don't mind calling a taxi all the time, banyan tree is good for staycation wise as well as location, except it's in the mountain and no easy access without a car./taxi or long walk. Or ambassador seoul pullman / novotel would be a great option as well

Breakfast has one of the best aromatic duck as part of the buffet too. I heard Sofitel is good too but further out. Depends what you want to do in Seoul I guess.

First time travelling to Seoul this October and looking at some options. Would appreciate your personal feedback and recommendations on hotels and neighbourhoods!

We are in Seoul for 6 nights and currently have the Courtyard Namdaemun booked. Doing a little research, it looks like the lounge has been closed since January 2024.

I’ve seen a lot of people recommended the Weston Josh but it looks outdated! Ideally we want to be fairly central with easy access to transit and not too far from the action! Ambassador status this year as well and hoping for some decent upgrades without NUAs 😂

Breakfast in the restaurant is fantastic, even by asian standards, it's not free like the Le Meridien but even lounge breakfast is good. Location is superb, in Myeongdong, near Seoul Plaza. Rooms are nice with fun automation for drapes and lights. Would highly recommend.

Upgraded at Le Meridien in Seoul. Two stays now, two very nice rooms. The hotel has a nice lounge, too. Fruit and mineral water in the room, and chess and wine as a welcome gift. A ton of food and drink options right outside. Makes it easy to get some local flavors and get back to the hotel after a long flight.

location is on a side street so not rowdy at all, but very close to public transpo which is awesome. can’t speak to four seasons but this property was suuuuper nice.

Excellent property, including the soft product of the staff.

I should have mentioned the staff in my original post. Valet, staff, front desk staff, and club staff are simply phenomenal. Zero issues with housekeeping, and the room is in really good condition.

Also enjoyed this hotel when I was in Seoul especially the lounge but the pricing for this hotel is so much higher now.

They out priced me. It was like 30% cheaper when it first opened.

IMO the Plaza hotel being much cheaper has a better product.

Seoul Hotel Recs (Marriotts)

Posted by ImReallyProud · in r/koreatravel · 4 months ago

My wife and I get into Seoul tomorrow and were wondering if you had to pick a Marriott hotel to stay in for your first trip to Seoul which would you pick (Titanium Member, so will get breakfast and lounge access if they have it):

  • Westin Josun (Myeongdong)
  • The Plaza Hotel, Autograph Collection (Myeongdong)
  • Courtyard (Namdaemun)
  • Ryse, Autograph Collection (Hongdae)
  • JW Marriott (Dongdaemun)
  • Other Marriotts?

We will be here 5 nights and our plan is typical tourist stuff on the north side of the river, a baseball game, LCK games, and going out to cocktail bars near Apgujeong Rodeo street one night.

Thanks in advance!

The Westin and Plaza are right next to each other and in a great location for a tourist’s first time to Seoul. The location is right outside the metro, and in the center of everything. I’d recommend the Westin. Honestly, I don’t think you’ll go wrong with any of these options but the Westin’s breakfast is top tier so for that reason alone I’d probably stay there. The JW is also likely nice but the location really isn’t the best imho. Not that it is unsafe or anything, just not as centrally located and less in the immediate surroundings that interested me.

There's also a Moxy/le meridian in Myeondong (3 Star and 5 Star hotel that share an entrance). The night market is right outside the door and windows, so if you like being in the middle of the action, it's great. I stayed there a few weeks ago and loved it

The Westin has the best breakfast and is within blocks of the Le Meridian, Plaza, and Courtyard. You are still near all the action.

The breakfast at JW Marriott Dongdaemun was hands down the best I’ve ever had at any hotel, anywhere in the world- both in terms of service and food. Absolutely exceptional.

I wanted to follow up. We ended up picking the Westin and honestly loved it.

As many mentioned the service and breakfast is incredible. The rooms are dated in color / style but everything is solid. Pool is great with long hours, sauna included for titanium members. Service is absolutely incredible as well. Highly, highly recommend this hotel.

We also did the courtyard on a free night award, and it was great but the road getting to it is much busier than the Westin. If you want to save 100-130 bucks a night it’s still nice, but the Westin was a definitely a few steps above.

Also this hotel opened in 1914, and has pretty cool history!

Stayed at the plaza then the meridien in may this year:

Le Meridien in Myeongdong is an excellent hotel (although I did not try the breakfast), the rooms are modern and well appointed. I personally didn’t love myeongdong because it’s very busy, but it’s pretty easy to go anywhere from there.

Plaza feels much more lux although the rooms are a little more dated. Location also really good since the subway is basically in the hotel. You can walk to most palaces from there as well.

I was going to stay at the Ryse but after seeing how far Hongdae was, I switched to meridien and think that was the right call.
