Must-Watch Films of 2024

Dune: Part Two

"Dune - Part Two" is described as a universally beloved movie from 2024. The film continues to captivate audiences with its grand scale and epic storytelling, maintaining the high standards set by its predecessor [5]. This installment has been praised for its visual splendor and faithful adaptation of Frank Herbert's classic novel.

The Substance

"The Substance" is noted as a mostly well-liked movie in 2024, receiving positive responses from both critics and audiences [3:1]. Despite some controversy surrounding its Oscar campaign and stark audience reception divide, it garnered significant attention and accolades within the industry [3:2].

Emilia Perez

"Emilia Perez" stands out as one of the most controversial films of the year. It received adoration from the film industry, with directors like Del Toro and Villeneuve praising it, while general audiences were less impressed [3:2]. Its controversial Oscar campaign and the divide between critical acclaim and audience reception make it a noteworthy film of 2024 [3:4].

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

"Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" is another notable release, capturing the attention of fans of the Mad Max franchise [5:2]. As a prequel to "Mad Max: Fury Road," it explores the backstory of the character Furiosa, promising high-octane action and immersive world-building.

Deadpool and Wolverine

"Deadpool and Wolverine" is described as a fun and engaging film that entertained audiences despite not being groundbreaking [5:4]. It has been likened to a "beach read" for its enjoyable and light-hearted approach, making it a popular choice among viewers [5:6].

These films reflect a diverse range of genres and styles, offering something for every type of moviegoer in 2024. Whether you're interested in epic science fiction, controversial dramas, or action-packed adventures, this year's lineup has plenty to offer.

I've managed to find most of the Shaft movies, and have few Pam Greir films. But what are some other great Blaxploitation films that don't get the attention they should?

The same thing happens with books: many new novels are just fanfiction of something successful, marketed via algorithmic tropes. Happy ending, found family hashtag hashtag.

Idk I feel like it was mostly disliked lol

Thick-Towel-3419 · 16 days ago

Nah, disliked by general audiences yes, but it was getting gassed up wayyyy too hard by critics and the whole film industry for it to be anywhere else but this spot, with directors like Del Toro and Villeneuve absolutely loving it. Hell, James Cameron said he saw it three times. And that’s not even mentioning it being one of the most nominated movies of all time, and every headline about it being mired in controversy. There was a HUGE industry push behind Emilia Perez, and the stark divide with the audience reception definitely means it belongs here

Thewanderer997 · OP · 17 days ago

I see so if you were to fix it, how would you do it?

3 upvotes on reddit
BuzzinDomier · 13 days ago

I think the idea of people selling dinosaurs was decent, poorly executed since its very slow in the movie and they show only 3 times atleast on JW movies, which is horrible and great since these scenes dont affect much of the lore and because they are LONNNG, like 2hrs of pure "yeah lets sell this dinosaur even tho we know they kill each other and people and are overpowered" could be a great idea if something went wrong, we see that on the indoraptor scene, but who opened the door? An greedy guy, not indoraptor, on dominion Claire does most of the work with Owen BY FREEING THE DINOSAURUS BUT NOT THE DINOS THEMSELFS, i would be great if they broke free and started massacring everyone

2 upvotes on reddit
An-individual-per · 16 days ago

Mainland dinosaurs, and I would fix it by having them be mostly spread out in scattered populations across the world's more remote and uninhabited places as otherwise people would just kill them, with encounters in urban areas being due to black markets finding these locations and taking species from them, alongside the smaller species like Microceratus and Compsognathus becoming cosmopolitan and fusing with the ecosystem.

If Rebirth still had to take place on Ile San Hubert, I would make the excuse that a majority of the scattered populations have been found and are placed under quarantine and are patrolled heavily to stop the lucrative black market, urban dinosaurs and for scientific study, with Ile San Hubert being one of them however it is one of the few islands and it is far enough away from any landmass that you would have to be intentionally looking for it to find it, so they just put a restricted air space radio signal and that fence and never mentioned it.

What are films that share the same atmosphere as films like the wolf of wallstreet, saltburn and the talented mr ripley.

Posted by SpeedOpen4842 · in r/MovieSuggestions · 17 days ago

I’m essentially just looking for media with a posh vibe, a display of wealth and an eccentric lifestyle. Yachts, mansions, drinking, partying are all factors that I’m looking for. I want to find a film that doesn’t insist upon itself but to be honest I will watch anything with this vibe.

Also I’m not exclusively looking for a specific genre so I’m happy for any genre of film to be suggested, it’s purely just the vibe.

(Also happy for series recommendations)

Tarkovsky is a god among directors.  If you have the patience.  I think Russian cinema is a lot like their literature.  It requires patience, but will reward you if you fully engage.

There are many great Spciet films. It's not just Trakovsky and Eisenstein.

To name some I personally like:

  • Seventeen Moments of Spring is a great series with awesome cast.
  • July Rain is really good French new wave inspired film.
  • Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears, Love and Pigeons are legendary films by Vladimir Menshov.
  • The Girls, a lighthearted romcom.
  • Dersu Uzala, a Kurosawa film but Soviet nonetheless.

Been the stomping ground of two of the most influential voices in international cinema: Eisenstein and Tarkovsky.

For them alone, it's worth exploring.

I just watched Come and See the other day. You can find it in full on YouTube. It is a harrowing experience with some really devasting shots but a great film. Today the lead actor, just a teen at the time of filming, is a shill for Putin's war in Ukraine, which is unfortunately ironic, given that Come and See is often cited among the truly great anti-war movies, even better than Full Metal Jacket in my opinion.

After you see Come and See you should give The Ascent(1977) a try. Directed by Klimovs wife just before her tragic death. It's a similar story of partisans behind the lines and you can see the obvious influence it left on her husband in Come and See.

I admit The Mirror is one of those films that made me feel kinda stupid, I only got it on a surface level. I attributed that to being an American living in the 21st century than a Russian of the 20th.

Perhaps you can answer this. In The Mirror when the squad leader is having them train with weapons during the war he takes off his hat and his head is throbbing. Why?

AI Answer

🤖

What are the must-watch films of the 2024

As of my last update, I can't provide specific titles for must-watch films of 2024 since that information is not available. However, here are some general tips for identifying must-watch films in any upcoming year:

Key Considerations

  1. Film Festivals: Keep an eye on major film festivals like Sundance, Cannes, and Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) for early buzz on standout films.

  2. Director and Cast: Look for films by acclaimed directors or featuring popular actors. Their previous works often indicate quality.

  3. Genre Trends: Pay attention to emerging trends in genres. For example, if horror or superhero films are gaining traction, those might be worth watching.

  4. Critical Acclaim: Check reviews from critics and audiences on platforms like Rotten Tomatoes or IMDb once the films are released.

  5. Awards Season: Films that receive nominations or wins during awards season (like the Oscars) are often considered must-watch.

Recommendations

  • Follow Film News: Websites like IndieWire, Variety, and The Hollywood Reporter often provide lists of anticipated films.
  • Social Media: Platforms like Twitter and Instagram can give you real-time updates on buzzworthy films.

By keeping these considerations in mind, you can curate a list of must-watch films for 2024 as the year progresses!
