Actually weren't most of them written for men and then she changed the pronouns for a lot of them.

I memorized the album and I don’t do that often but I’m looking for something fun or easy to sing to. I’ve just listened to it too much now and need something else but similar. Sapphic themes are a bonus. I don’t particularly want sad themes unless it’s kitzy or has a funky bass. I’m enjoying singing along to Red Wine Supernova, My Kink is Your Karma, and kaleidoscope most to give reference. Any decade, any genre. I tend to gravitate to pop, indie, folk, or club but I’m okay with anything.
Edit to add: I really like the part that sounds almost like a yodel in kaleidoscope. Are there more pop songs that have like that yodel sound involved? I may be looking for folk meets pop.
maybe you’ll like the album Retrovision by Honey Revenge? If you just want to check it out I’d recommend the track “Worst Apology”
Ooo this is closer to the vibe I’m going for! Funny enough I think this album has popped up on my Spotify recommends before.
“After Laughter” by Paramore also has a similar vibe but probably not as close as Honey Revenge that I personally know of
They’re a great band!! Hope you enjoy
I've listened to a few Dagny songs lately and loved them -- similar vibe to Chappell. The ones I've heard are Love You Like That, Somebody, and Come Over.
Thank you! Unfortunately the instruments are a bit too crunchy for me and the music is too wistful if that makes sense. I’m king of going more Buffy than Charmed if that reference makes any sense. It’d be great drawing music though.
I had this stupid thought while running and figured you’d all greatly appreciate it.

Yes! All her songs are an emotional rollercoaster…
Her ability to express silliness, sadness, passion, lust on top of her VOCAL range and power just does something to the emotional/primal part of my brain 😂
You know what? I had this distinct feeling listening to Pink Pony Club over and over in the Summer of 2020. It felt so special. Never could’ve imagined she’d end up here now. Love it so much for her.
YESSS she’s an ICON 🥰🥹
Legit cry during some of the album. I cannot express how she just sings to the soul. The first time I heard love me anyway must’ve changed my brain chemistry or something
Literally the rise and fall of a Midwest princess every song is a hit! I can listen to the whole album on repeat 😚🤌🏼
Unrelated, but I just really really love this outfit for her and this photo shoot as a whole. I believe these were taken by the same photographer who took the MWP cover ohotos
So a couple of weeks ago I went on spotify and clicked on my release radar bc I got a notification saying Chappell was on a song with someone else. However it just happened that my release radar was due for a changeover for the new week and it refreshed before I could see what it was. Since then, any time I search for it, I can’t find anything. Am I going crazy lol
From my memory, the cover seemed to be some sort of grey, and the song had multiple (maybe 3-4) artists collaborating on it. I also know it wasn’t an Olivia Rodrigo song. Does this exist fr and maybe she asked to be taken off the credits or something, or did my Spotify just glitch as it was refreshing? Does anyone know what I’m talking about? I can’t find it anywhere
This happened a while back as well. Someone posted here saying there was a new song ao people would all go listen to it and boost the numbers.
It was like a ambient noise electro thing.
Omg that’s so weird. I hope that Spotify makes some changes to verify the artists credited or something! Ppl lie about the strangest things. You’d think if ur song was any good you’d be able to promote it without leeching off of other successful artists
I got it too a while back. Chappell wasn’t actually on it and whoever uploaded it credited her so it’d show up in people’s Release Radar/Spotify algorithm. A few free (dishonest) streams until her team fixes it means the uploader gets a few dollars and nothing else really happens 🙄 it used to happen all the time to a smaller indie pop artist I listen to, where almost every week, a “new song” would be posted to her page just for it to be some guy rapping in another language.
Basically, if the artist doesn’t post about it on socials, it’s probably not a real song by them
Omg ugh, how fucked up is all that. That sucks! But I’m glad there are ppl who can remove these artists from these randos’ songs. How strange! Thanks for the info, I never even knew you could do that on Spotify that’s so wild
idk why it took me this long to start listening to her music
She lowkey a bitch tho
lowkey, separate the art from the artist
True I just get a bad taste in my mouth sometimes
Austrian man
yeah lowkey
Y'all were absolutely amazing. Everyone knew when to not talk obnoxiously loud. Lots of people knew the background vocals on some songs. Everyone was singing along or at least bobbing to the music. And it wasn't even just the front group, I made my way towards the back half way through the set and it was the same amazing vibes. Probably one of the best crowds I've been a part of in Austin ever. Thanks Pink Pony Club!
So amazing when the right crowd shows up to the right show.
I’ll share this with my partner who went wearing pajamas (part of the theme).
I high-key missed the memo on the theme and showed up in pants and a shirt 🙃
I felt this way about Codeine at Levitation. Super chill and quiet crowd, perfect for a slowcore band
Not to sound snobby or something, but I just haven't really liked a lot of pop music for a while now. I heard about Chappel Roan's rise recently but I was VERY dubious and didn't really give it a chance.
BOY WAS I WRONG
I heard good luck babe on radio today while in a Lyft and I was like, FUCK THIS IS SO GOOD.
I'm currently listening to the Midwest Princess album and it's BOP after BOP.
I'm firmly bisexual but mostly into women and it's so nice to have songs that are so relatable (even though I've never dated a woman)
Also Pink Pony Club is hitting in my feels 🥹🥹🥲
For REAL, I felt like there was something that had been missing from pop music for a few years that I just couldn’t put my finger on and I wasn’t listening to new pop as much, but since I discovered Chappell I feel like she’s bringing back exactly what I was missing!!
I've decided the thing that'd been missing is maximalism. Song after song is inoffensive synth beats over some girl singing who sounds just fine, and it's just dull now. Jack Antonoff decided 80s synth beats were the next big thing in 2014 and pop music has been riding that wave for 10 years now. The big 80s sound turned into a slower 90s pop sound, history repeats itself.
The other dominant sound in pop, specifically sung by women, is the sad girl sound. I'm all for the sad girl sound, but it's oversaturated and no one is doing anything new. We didn't need 15 Phoebe Bridgers, but it's an easy sound to replicate and you don't have to be a great singer to do it.
Chappell Roan sounds new and over the top.
also no hate to Jack Antonoff, I love him, bleachers, and big 80s synth beats.
Yes! I’m kind of old (in my 30s) and liked a fair bit of pop music as a kid, but haven’t liked much of it until recently. (I mostly listen to country/folk/americana/indie stuff). But after discovering Chappell’s music a few months ago, I love that there’s pop I really just unabashedly enjoy. Olivia Rodrigo is great too and I’m enjoying Sabrina Carpenter’s stuff, so I’m loving that there’s pop out there that I really like again.
agreed but may I add, how about Caroline Polachek?
Oooh I haven’t heard of Caroline before, I’ll have to check that out! ❤️ Thank you!
YES CAROLINE, super talented, incredible sound, I love her too
i haven’t been this taken by an english language pop star since carly rae jepsen released emotion
I haven’t liked pop music since 2015 until the past two months. In the words of Marina herself, POP IS HEALING.
I'm so happy to see Marina support Chappell. I feel like her time to shine in 2012-2013 was robbed. She had so much going for her that other rising pop stars didn't have. Popular music just took a different turn and the world was not ready for another over-the-top "character artist."
I agree. Sabrina and Chappell are giving me life. Chappell especially reminds me of Gaga especially during her first album era, The Fame.
Also agree, love both of their newer music. I was so tired of the pop drought I was having.
with chappell roan’s the giver, i can finally add more to this playlist. books only please!
The Trick Is To Keep Breathing by Garbage. The title was inspired by the book of the same name, but isn't about the book.
holy shit I love that song sm and I did not know this!! I’m def gonna pick up the book now
i always thought lolita the song was related to the book. it describes a youthful girl kissing boys and all that—almost like she’s being taken advantage of. and the speaker adores/wants the person they’re speaking about, similar to the book iirc.
posting this for the top comment about this:
i put it in another comment but i did some thinking about whether or not it should be included before i posted— the jist is that while both are about girls who men are interested in (intentional wording), there’s no mention of any characters or any real plot points beyond that. if the song had mentioned driving around the country or a mother character i would consider it, but otherwise you could replace “lolita” with “anita” or “mamacita” and not lose much.
