TL;DR
Dyson V8 and V10
The Dyson V8 cordless vacuum cleaner is frequently praised across discussions for its power, lightweight design, and long-lasting battery [1:1]
[2:1]
[5:1]. Users appreciate its versatility and efficiency, making it a popular choice for homes with pets and mixed flooring
[5:2]. The Dyson V10 also receives positive feedback, especially when purchased as a refurbished model
[1:3].
Hoover ONEPWR
The Hoover ONEPWR stick vacuums are noted for their ease of use and the ability to swap out batteries, which is a significant advantage over models like Dyson that require recharging before further use [1:5]. This feature allows continuous cleaning without interruption, and users appreciate the warning system indicating low battery levels.
Shark Ion P50
For those seeking durability and reliability, the Shark Ion P50 comes highly recommended. It has been used heavily for several years and continues to perform well on both hardwood and carpet [3:5]. It is particularly favored by families with young children due to its robustness and availability of replacement parts.
Budget-Friendly Options
While cordless vacuums can be expensive, some users have found value in models priced under $200 that effectively handle tasks like picking up cat litter and pet hair [3:1]. However, it's important to note that cheaper models may not offer the same level of performance or longevity as higher-end options.
Considerations Beyond Discussions
When choosing a cordless vacuum, consider factors such as the type of flooring in your home, the presence of pets, and your budget. While Dyson models are popular, they may require more maintenance and have quality concerns [4:8]. Exploring brands like Miele and Sebo could provide reliable alternatives, though they may come at a higher price point
[4:2].
Looking for a solid cordless vacuum that’s actually worth it. What’s your favorite Reddit-approved pick? Bonus if it’s lightweight and has good battery life. Thanks! 🙌
Dyson V8
Dyson v10 bought a refurb on Walmart website 4+ years still going strong best investment ever!
Thanks for the reco! Dyson V10 sounds like a solid pick, love that it’s still going strong after 4+ years. I’ll definitely check out the refurb route too! 🙌
I like the Hoover ONEPWR stick vacs. They pick up well, are easy to empty, and I have more than one ONEPWR battery, so I can keep vacuuming when a battery runs out. That's what I dislike about the Dyson stick one I have--when the battery dies, you can't vacuum again until you recharge it. There's no warning, either. With the Hoovers, a red light comes on showing you are about to run out of battery power. In addition, I have to hold down the start button the whole time I am vacuuming with the Dyson, whereas you don't have to do that with the Hoover sticks.
Samsung Jet
I swear by the Dyson V8, light, powerful, and the battery holds up well. Worth the splurge!
i've been eyeing the V8, might finally take the plungee
Do ittt, the V8’s a solid pick, lightweight and powerful!
After trying an enormous amount of vacuum cleaners this year, I finally found the one. I've been using it consistently for a long tie now, and the Dyson V8 cordless is by far the best out of all of those I tried. Shoot, even Times Boston gave it a great review, which says a lot. Definitely look at it if you're in the market.
After reading the article, I gotta say I agree on all points. It’s been a game-changer for keeping my place clean. The easy maneuverability and strong performance are real highlights. Definitely recommend it.
The article nails it – the Dyson V8 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner is fantastic. I’ve had mine for over a year now, and it’s still going strong. The convenience of being cordless and the powerful suction make it a great choice.
I'm looking for a cordless vacuum that is great for picking up cat litter and pet hair. I will also need it to be good for carpet or rug use. I've also been looking into the wet /dry cordless vacuums, but I'm hearing iffy things about them, especially the cordless ones. It would also be nice if I can find one that isn't extremely expensive, but I'm seeing that is a challenge.
I’ve had a few over the years and I have to say my newest Dewalt DCV501HB is by far the best, I use around the house too.
Cordless vacuums are best for light duty pickups on hard floors or quick pickups on carpet. They are universally not very repairable and expensive. You could spend 1200 on one that would do an okay job but only last a couple of years. What you are describing does not sound like the job for one.
Cordless, good for carpets, inexpensive, pick two.
Cordless, good for carpets - Simplicity Freedom Cordless. But, no tools, not great for bare floors, useless for cars, etc. Fairly expensive.
Cordless, true multi-surface - Lindhaus Valzer L-Ion. Very expensive.
I have the shark Ion p50. I cannot recommend it enough.
I have had it for 4 years with HEAVY use. I have young kids and use it every time we finish a meal on hard wood and carpet. It’s a workhorse.
If something breaks you can buy specific parts on sharks website.
Any vacuum worth 2 fucks should be able to suck up crumbs. And you might find filters or whole assembiles made outta the same cheap shit
What cordless do you suggest then?
Any vacuum worth 2 fucks should be able to suck up crumbs.
Exactly, and their vacuum does that. Not everyone can or should spend over $300 to vacuum up cat litter.
I want to high five you after reading that.
I do agree that the minimum requirement is crumbs - I don’t sweep EVER. It has held up with play dough, Mac n cheese, wet leaves and more.
I know it’s not on the sub list but this has worked great for me. I have broken the canister and been able to replace it direct from the website.
I paid under $200 for it new and think it’s great. For a cordless vacuum I think I have gotten more than what I’ve paid for and would work great for cat litter and pet hair.

Best cordless vac? I have a vacuum but my toddler loves to unplug it and play with the cord, yikes! Be nice to have a cordless to use as a daily.
About 50/50 carpet and hard floors. We do have a golden retriever so definitely has to handle dog fluff!
Prefer under $400 but would go as high as $600 if truly worth it.
As you can probably tell, this sub is generally anti cordless and bagless. Unfortunately for me, like you, I also have young kids and don’t want to deal with the hassle of a cord, but I also don’t want the thing to die on me in two years. I’m considering the new Sebo cordless that is set to come out in the US next month - at least it seems like a more reliable brand than Dyson or Shark. Otherwise I’m just going to buy the Dyson V15 at Costco and return it to Costco if it breaks.
Grabbing the Dyson V15 at Costco is a smart move :)
Does costco still do returns after years of ownership on products like vacuums?
Avoid Dyson at all costs. The first component that breaks is the trigger, and the service is absolutely terrible. I’ve had a Miele Triflex HX 2 for 3 years now, and still going strong like on Day 1.
Only on V10 and v11 screw in types otherwise Dyson triggers don’t break.
Performance is there - quality is questionable. Heaps of maintenance needed.
I am the dyson reddit mod and a Dyson business owner.
Good decision cuz the latest cordless models are catching up power wise. But ofc for everyday home use especially with a toddler and a golden retriever, it will be less about wattage and more about how it handles real mess.
I’d look at the Simplicity Cordless. It’s one of the few cordless uprights that’s bagged and can stand on its own. The brushroll adjusts automatically between carpet and hard floors which is great since you're 50/50 like me. And since it’s a bagged HEPA system, it will actually traps pet fluff and dander. Battery replacements will always be a thing with cordless but unless you're vacuuming for hours a day, this lasts long enough to do a solid clean without stressing. You're also not dealing with the usual stick vac issue where all the weight is in your wrist and you have to lean it against furniture every 5 mins.
Handling pet hair on mixed floors daily without the vac dying fast or a toddler yanking cords is a pain
the OP in this other thread sorted a budget cordless that tackled similar dog hair messes reliably https://www.reddit.com/r/VacuumCleaners/comments/1lk72m7/need_a_solid_cordless_stick_vacuum_that_doesnt/
I got a used Miele stick and it works pretty well
After burning through countless vacuum cleaners, I finally found the one. I've been using it for quite some time now, and the Dyson V8 cordless is by far the best I've ever had. Even Times Boston gave it a positive review, which says a lot. Definitely worth a look if you're in the market for a new one!
I just read the linked article, and I have to agree with everything it said. This vacuum has been amazing for my home, especially with pet hair. The battery life and suction are top-notch.
I have the same vacuum, I like it so far. But, I have a question for you. How can I use the machine in Eco mode rather than using it on max all the time. I looked and could not find the setting or button to change settings. Thank you very much for your time.
Better than the v11???
Also definitely agree with the article on this one. The V8 has been the best vacuum I’ve owned, hands down. The versatility and efficiency of this vacuum make it a must-have for any home.
Hey,
I'm planning to get my very first cordless vacuum cleaner, because my regular vacuum cleaner is just taking up too much space and effort to use it. I'm also planning to get a pet so I'd need to use it much more often than now. I've always heard Dyson is the king of this category and I'm willing to pay the premium if it really last long and can find spare parts even after years of usage. Also heard about the Xiaomi Mi G10 as an alternative. What's your opinion?
With an incoming pet, go corded.
Thank you for this suggestion. Based on your opinion I bought a corded shark stand up version instead of wasting several hundred dollars more on a cordless that will last maybe 2 years. No regrets with the purchase.
Awesome 👍
I have a dog and a hatred for vacuuming. Corded vacuums only work better if you use them. I prefer my Dyson 100% and feel like it does a fantastic job. I vacuum wayy more than I used to with a corded vac. Plus works great for furniture and cars. About to sell my old refurbished one to get the v12 one with the laser. Buy what you'll use!
Why do you say that? I can already see myself being lazy to use that because I have to assemble it and deal with a cord.
Simply because they are better machines. And cords are long enough so you can do a whole room without having to move the plug to a different socket.
Long term: no dying batteries to replace.
This Tineco Vacuum cleaner is very nice. It’s appearance is sleek and very high tech. While it does not feel as light as the the Shark vacuums that have their motors on the ground, it has more powerful suction and does a better job. This vacuum is very quite even though it has a lot of power. The motor is at the top of the handle and so, yes there is some weight there, but no, it is not too heavy. It came with two attachments, in addition to the carpet sweeper; a crevice tool and a convertible brush duster. The pistol-grip handle/motor can be detached and the attachments attach to it for easy cleaning of furniture, ceiling crevices and other hard to get-at places. They also include a wall rack mount which I used. This keeps the vac out of the way and fully charged. The wall rack also stores the attachments so that everything is always handy. There are LED lights on the main housing which allows you to see under stuff. I was shocked see how much fine dust and cat/dog hair this vacuum picked up in such a short amount of time! This vacuum picks it all up which makes like it was never there. I didn’t attach pictures as there is nothing I could show that isn’t already shown on the box and in the quick instructions guide. It’s super easy to clean with little notes build into the handle disclosing when and how. The dustbin is super simple to open and clean out. All in all, this is a very good vacuum and I am very happy to have it.)
This Tineco Pure One S11 Series Smart Vacuum Cleaner is the best vacuum I have ever used and owned!! It was very easy to put together, only took maybe 5 minutes. It comes with a wall-mount, 3 different attachments, and 2 cleaning tools. All of which work terrific!! The instructions and quick start guide were very informative and helpful. I really like that this has an app. I can control the speed settings from my phone and much more! The suction this has is outstanding!! There are three different modes. The auto, manual, and max mode. All 3 work terrific for different messes. This also will adjust itself to the level of mess too! With just one swipe across, this picks everything up!! The attachments make it easy to clean furniture and also the car. Overall, the quality is excellent!! If you're looking for a really good vacuum cleaner, this one is definitely the one

If you can't afford a Dyson (tech is just superior), try these:
Shark NV360 Navigator | BISSELL 2252 | Eureka |
---|---|---|
164.99 | 118.44 | 89.99 |
top | mid | value pick |
You might want to consider the Shark IX141 as a contender instead of a Dyson. I picked one up not too long ago and it's been a solid performer.
The Shark IX141 is surprisingly lightweight, which is a big deal when you're trying to clean up high or whip around furniture. The suction power is pretty impressive for its size, and it does a great job with pet hair, which is a huge win in my book.
Battery life is decent – gets me through a decent-sized cleanup without petering out. And it's not too noisy, which is a bonus. Plus, it's way more affordable compared to some of the high-end models if you're not looking to drop a small fortune on a vacuum.
I own the Dyson V11. It’s expensive but a great machine. It can be repaired by the owner and the parts are available online. My wife dropped ours and broke the main housing. I simply bought a new housing, with a new motor, control board and trigger assemble. Took 5 minutes to swap the unbroken parts from the original to new housing.
Hello! Basically the title. I am looking for a good vacuum for my apartment! No stairs, a carpet in the living room and wood floors.
I got a Dyson V15 last Christmas and I can't recommend it enough!
What do you think of the battery life? And does it pick up all « sizes » of crumbs?
Battery life is acceptable for us in a small 2 bedroom house. Put into 'max' mode we get about 10 mins. Picks up all sizes of crumbs we've thrown at it thus far! I got given a second battery as a gift from a friend but honestly it rarely gets used. Also the vacuum is excellent for the car!
The best cordless vacuum cleaner for an apartment with a combination of carpet and hardwood floors would likely be the Dyson V11 Cordless Vacuum. The Dyson V11 is a powerful, high-performance cordless vacuum that offers strong suction and a variety of attachments for different cleaning tasks, including a Torque Drive cleaner head for carpets and a Hard floor tool for hardwood.
It has a good battery life and comes with advanced features like an LCD screen that shows real-time information on battery life, performance, and filter maintenance. It's also lightweight and easy to maneuver, making it ideal for cleaning tight spaces, such as corners and along baseboards.

We tried the LG cordless one from costco and hated it after a year. We have mostly laminate* flooring and it would just shoot particles everywhere instead of picking them up. Even quite small pieces it wouldn’t pick up and we ended up having to hand pick up small leaves and such.
We recently picked up the dyson v10 and so far really enjoying it. It actually picks things up!
WOW thank you so much!
Had a dyson v6 for ~5 years, loved it. It broke, upgraded to a v15 detect and It's amazing. I will never own a corded indoor vacuum again.
I have had 2 of the v10s from Costco in less than a year. Loved it, except they’ve both failed from manufacturing defects. First one, within a few months began intermittently failing during use, was mostly an annoyance as it would work again but after a few months it would only go 1-2 seconds and not go back on when pulling the trigger. Replaced it for the same model and this stopped working within a week. Won’t turn on, won’t register when plugged in to charge.
I have a dyson absoute v10 and it's been going strong for 3 years now. I can do most of my house on the high setting in one go and it picks up a ton of cat hair
Dyson v15 Absolute Detect here. We love it, no buyers remorse even with the steep price.
The laser is amazing on hardwood floors and you will never realize how dirty your floors are even when they look clean - and it sucks everything up effortlessly.
+1 but we have the detect. Favorite and best vacuum we’ve ever had. The laser is GOAT, especially since we have cat litter.
I am in love with my v15 detect! It's weird telling people how much a vacuum changed my life. 2 cats, 1 dog, Vacuum every day, never disappointed.
Yep it's pretty amazing.
Ony bad part of using it is it always makes me want to move furniture, as I can always see the dust that is just out of reach.
The Dyson V11 Should be your starting point and more than enough for most people. The V8 is nice, but Picking the Dyson V11 over the V8 is like going from a regular bicycle to a turbocharged electric bike. The V11 kicks it up a notch with smart features like automatically adjusting suction for different floors and a cool LCD screen showing you exactly how much power you've got left. Plus, it's got more juice in the battery and a bigger dustbin, so you can clean longer without stopping.
I've had both and hands down I would go with the Dyson V11 again any day.

It's always a good idea to plan ahead! When it comes to cordless vacuums, I've always been a fan of Tineco Pure One . It's very quiet and performs very well. It's lightweight too making it super easy to use.
What do you guys recommend as the best cordless vacuum? Both as a stick version and as a non-stick version, perhaps canister? I really like Dyson vacuums but I think this sub is mostly against them. So I'm wondering what y'all would recommend.

I would like to know what this sub thinks is an objectively well designed stick vacuum.
Dysons are fine if you don’t have pet hair. They just do a terrible job with pet hair on high pile carpet.
It’s like the apple of vacuums. Not really built to last a long time and objectively overpriced.
What about the new Miele DuoFlex stick vacuum? Anybody have experience with that?
I currently have had experience with three Dyson stick vacuums. I like all of them. Not having to use a corded vacuum and not having to carry around a canister are things I really enjoy. It has turned something that I once viewed as a nuisance and a massive chore into something that I borderline enjoy.
I will say this though. They are very plasticky and if they fall down there's probably a high chance of them breaking internally.
Best Cordless Vacuum Cleaner
Key Considerations for Choosing the Best Cordless Vacuum Cleaner
Suction Power: Look for models with strong suction capabilities. Higher wattage or voltage (around 18V to 25V) typically indicates better performance.
Battery Life: Aim for a vacuum that offers at least 30-60 minutes of runtime on a single charge, especially if you have a larger area to clean.
Weight and Design: A lightweight design (ideally under 6 lbs) makes it easier to maneuver, especially in multi-level homes or tight spaces.
Filtration System: A good filtration system, such as HEPA filters, is essential for trapping allergens and dust, making it ideal for allergy sufferers.
Attachments and Versatility: Consider models that come with various attachments (e.g., crevice tools, dusting brushes) for cleaning different surfaces and hard-to-reach areas.
Dustbin Capacity: A larger dustbin means less frequent emptying, which can be convenient during larger cleaning tasks.
Top Recommendations:
Dyson V11 Torque Drive:
Shark ION F80 MultiFLEX:
Tineco A11 Hero:
Recommendation: If budget allows, the Dyson V11 is often considered the best overall due to its performance and features. However, if you're looking for a more budget-friendly option, the Shark ION F80 provides great value without compromising too much on performance.
