Best Vacuum Cleaner for Cars

TL;DR

  • Dyson V7 Car+Boat: Portable, powerful, and versatile [1:1].
  • Black+Decker Dustbuster: Budget-friendly handheld option [1:2].
  • Ridgid Shop Vac: Reliable with auto detailing kits available [3:2], [4:2].

Cordless Options

For those seeking convenience, cordless vacuums like the Dyson V7 Car+Boat are highly recommended. This model is praised for its strong suction and useful attachments, making it ideal for maneuvering around tight spaces in a car [1:3]. Cordless options eliminate the hassle of tangled cords, allowing for easy cleaning in awkward spots [2].

Budget-Friendly Choices

If you're on a budget, the Black+Decker Dustbuster Handheld Vacuum is a solid choice. It's compact and easy to use, perfect for quick clean-ups without breaking the bank [1:2]. Another affordable option mentioned is the Bauer line from Harbor Freight, which offers good performance at a lower price point [2:1].

Powerful Shop Vacs

For those looking for more power, shop vacs like the Ridgid models are frequently recommended. These vacuums come with various attachments, including crevice tools, making them versatile for both dry and wet cleaning tasks [4:3]. The Dewalt 12 gal. wet/dry vac is another powerful option that has been praised for its durability and ability to handle tough messes [2:2].

Specialized Kits

Several users highlighted the importance of having specialized kits or attachments for car cleaning. The Ridgid shop vacs often come with auto detailing kits that include smaller nozzles for reaching tight spaces [3:7]. These kits enhance the vacuum's capability to clean intricate areas within the car.

Dual-Purpose Vacuums

For those interested in a vacuum that can be used both in the car and at home, the Miele C3 with the CarCare tool kit is suggested as a versatile option [4:1]. However, it's important to note that car-specific vacuums may not have the power required for extensive home cleaning [5:2].

The best vacuum cleaner for your car depends on your needs and budget. If you want a budget-friendly option, go for the Black+Decker Dustbuster Handheld Vacuum. For a more powerful and versatile choice, check out the Dyson V7 Car+Boat Vacuum. And if money is no object, the Metrovac Vac N Blo is a beast. Ultimately, choose the one that sucks the best for your buck.

For car vacuuming, go with the Dyson V7 Car+Boat. It's compact, has strong suction, and comes with useful attachments. Plus, it's cordless, so you won't be tangled up while tackling those tight spaces.

The best vacuum cleaner for your car would be a portable handheld one. Look for something compact and easy to maneuver around tight spaces. Don't forget to grab one with good suction power to pick up all those pesky crumbs and dirt. Happy cleaning!

Best Car Vacuum to Buy Right Now?

Posted by JeowJeow · in r/Detailing · 3 months ago

I'm looking for recommendations on the best car vacuum. I've been trying to keep my car cleaner, but regular vacuums just aren’t cutting it when it comes to all the tight spaces and corners. Between pet hair, crumbs, and dirt from my shoes, the interior gets messy quickly. I’m looking for a vacuum that’s not only powerful but also easy to maneuver around the seats, under the pedals, and in those awkward spots.

A cordless option would be awesome for convenience, but I’m open to anything with good suction and battery life.

What’s worked for you? I'd love to hear your go-to recommendations.

I have a dewalt 12 gal. 5.5hp wet/dry vac and it sucks! But in a good way. Way more power than any car wash I’ve been to and it only cost me about $120 ish. Had it for 3 years and sucked up some of the worst messes I’ve ever seen around the house and in my vehicles and it never skipped a beat. I actually sucked out a full washing machine that the drain pump went out on and overfilled it multiple times doing that and it went right back to it after a quick drain.

If you’re not looking to spend much, go to Harbor Freight and check out their Bauer line of vacuums. They also sell a really nice attachment kit with smaller nozzles for getting into really tight spaces. I bought the midsized one and am extremely happy with it so far!

This vacuum is amazing for my use. Not a full time detailer but keep up with my own cars and this one is small and has the kit for car detailing. It's corded so maybe someone else can weigh in on cordless option but I love this little thing.

Car ones are quite low powered for home use. Better get a home vacuum cleaner if you have a power outlet near car or can have a long extension wire.

Best vacuum cleaner for car detailing?

Posted by everydayrice · in r/VacuumCleaners · 2 years ago

I run a rental car business with a growing fleet of 21 cars. I am looking for the best cordless vacuum on the market. Commercial grade if need be. I need something reliable, high suction, minimal maintenance, attachment options, and long lasting charge.

I do have a couple powerful shop vacs but we are in the process of moving warehouses and have to work with portable cordless vacs for the time being.

No budget. Looking for the best on the market! Saving time is most important. I know I will make the money back from the time saved.

I am looking at maybe the Dyson Gen5outsize. What do you guys recommend?

I wouldn't recommend a cordless stick vacuum like the Dyson Outsize, what you want is a vacuum with a hose so that it can get into tight corners and you don't have to move the whole unit back and forth to clean seats and carpets. With a Dyson Outsize you are moving the entire handheld back and forth to clean every surface.

I recommend the Bosch 2.6 Gal Cordless Wet/Dry Vacuum $149 (tool only). It's a wet/dry vacuum so you can suck up spill and liquids if you have to and accidental wet spots won't damage the vacuum. The Bosch has a flexible but non-stretch hose. You don't want to have to pull against the hose the entire time you are using it like on some of the other cordless wet/dry vacuums. It uses Bosch's18v batteries so you can buy as many as you need. The Bosch doesn't have wheels so it won't roll down any driveways either.

Ryobi 6 Gal Cordless Wet/Dry Vacuum $139 would be my second choice if you have a flat lot and you want wheels.

Thoughts?

everydayrice · OP · 2 years ago

That’s a great point. I hadn’t thought about that.

I do like the Bosch a lot, I just wish they had something similar at Home Depot as I have a card with them. I looked through some of the reviews and from what I read the suction will die over time so I wonder if instead of using a cordless vac, I could opt into a wired vac and use a portable battery generator.

I bought an electric battery generator recently from Home Depot (https://www.homedepot.com/p/BLUETTI-2200W-Continuous-4800W-Peak-Output-Power-Station-AC200MAX-Black-Push-Button-Start-LiFePO4-Battery-Solar-Generator-AC200MAXBR/323268521)

What do you think about this setup and do you have any recommended vacs for something like this with strong suction, cord not too much of a hassle, and similar build as the Bosch you mentioned?

On another note, I also looked at a DeWalt portable vac over at Home Depot. What are your thoughts on these?

I think the biggest problem with Bosch and other cordless vacuums is getting 12-15 minutes per battery. Most shop vacuums without a bag loose suction as their filters get dirty and clogged.

I don't have much experience with large battery packs but by my calculations that this battery pack has around 17Ah, which makes sense. The typical 4Ah battery gets you 15 minutes on a cordless vacuum and this pack says you get you 1.2 hrs at 1400W, which is close to 4 times a 4Ah battery. It seems very expensive but it's more flexible so you get that.

The advantage of using this battery pack with a corded vacuum is corded vacuums have stronger suction than all the cordless ones. The second advantage is corded vacuums have larger bags and bins so there's less time emptying the vacuum.

If you get this battery pack there are lots of Karcher and Rigid shop vacuums that will work for cleaning cars. I would actually look at the vacuums with more standard width hoses and not the wider shop vac hoses. A regular/narrower hose will be easier to use in the car detailing/cleaning task.

But with that battery pack in mind I would actually recommend a Henry HVR160 or Henry HVR200. These Henrys are dry hepa bagged canister vacuums but they only use just 680 Watts compared to most shop vacuums using 1200-1400 Watts. This means you should get double the run time with a Henry maybe around 2.4 hrs of run time. These 2 Henrys have the same motor and actually use the same bags, the HVR160 is a medium-sized canister and the HVR200 is larger so the bag can hold more.

The Dewalt cordless vacuums should work just like other tools brand cordless vacuums. The 20V is the same as 18V batteries in actual use so these Dewalts are any stronger than other 18V vacuums. I think the 1st and 3rd vacuums are too small you'd need to empty them after each use. And all of them have stretch hoses. If you were just vacuuming 1 car that'd be ok, but you have to constantly hold the vacuum with one hand as you stretch out the hose with the other.

It's not the vacuum really (though those vacuums can be junk), any decent shop vac is fine (I always had Rigid) but after that it's technique and other tools. A carpet brush (by hand or a carpet brush head in a buffer) to loosen dirt and debris as you vacuum, if you're going all out, compressed air or a Tornador before vacuuming. Also vacuum in a crossing pattern.

The Milwaukee M18 compact cordless vac is fantastic for the car.

It's handheld and you can use the larger batteries for longer life.

The stick vac attachment sucks ass tho. It's really floppy and unbalanced.

It takes me less than 1 min to setup, less than 30 seconds to get to other side of car, and less than 1 min to wrap up the cord and the extension cord that I use.

I would say yes, very easy to break down and set up.

Anything that involves a quick clean up for me would just require a microfiber towel.

I know I’m not answering the question, but for tidying weird spots, compressed air is a great companion for a vacuum. There are plenty of spots that somewhere between torturous and impossible to clean up with any reasonable crevice attachment, but you can still blow the debris out. This works even better with Tornador type tools that organize the air into a agitating pattern.

Ideally you’d get a regular shop vac, rigid 5 gallon is super common to see, I use a vac master beast which was on sale and cheaper when I was in the market and suffices for me.

Cordless options are good as a secondary quick cleanup tool. I doubt you’d get any great results with pet hair and a cordless vac. My work vehicle has a cordless makita and getting dog hair is with it is like trying to pluck the hair with my fingers.

4 upvotes on reddit
serqetres · OP · 3 months ago

Yeah, sounds like cordless might not cut it for the serious pet hair cleanup. Thanks for sharing your experience with the Vacmaster Beast—I’ll look into that too. Seems like a regular shop vac is a favorite around here.

I use a DeWalt StealthSonic. It's more than powerful enough, comes with a quality crushproof hose, and most importantly it is quiet enough to not need hearing protection. They are also inexpensive and Costco carries a variant of it. It's also something I've never felt the need or desire to go cordless with but YMMV. The corded vacuums are going to be more powerful in most cases.

As for manoeuvrability, that will just depend on what attachments you choose - not really any different vacuum to vacuum. Other than that it's just the hose.

2 upvotes on reddit
serqetres · OP · 3 months ago

Quiet and powerful? That’s a rare combo. The StealthSonic might be exactly what I need—especially if I don’t have to wear ear protection every time I clean the car! I hadn’t thought much about how much attachments matter, but you’re totally right. Thanks for the detailed breakdown!

Honestly sounds like you want a Dyson.

However the vacmasters ( corded) are unbeaten in my experience

Would you know of a good wet/dry vac with good suction power that can be mobile in the back of a car?

Could get a RIDGID or Milwaukee battery operated vacuum, they may not have the longest run times on the battery but i’ve heard good things about them, RYOBI also sells one too I believe

Best Vacuum Cleaner For Cars

Key Considerations for Choosing the Best Vacuum Cleaner for Cars:

  1. Portability: Look for a lightweight and compact vacuum that is easy to maneuver and store in your vehicle.

  2. Suction Power: A vacuum with strong suction is essential for effectively picking up dirt, debris, and pet hair from car interiors.

  3. Attachments: Choose a vacuum that comes with specialized attachments, such as a crevice tool, brush nozzle, and extension hose, to reach tight spaces and clean various surfaces.

  4. Corded vs. Cordless: Cordless vacuums offer convenience and ease of use, but ensure the battery life is sufficient for your cleaning needs. Corded vacuums provide continuous power but may limit mobility.

  5. Filtration System: A vacuum with a good filtration system can help trap allergens and dust, which is especially important for those with allergies.

Recommendations:

  • Black+Decker Dustbuster Handheld Vacuum (CHV1410L): This cordless option is lightweight, has strong suction, and comes with a crevice tool. It’s great for quick clean-ups and has a washable filter.

  • Shark Rocket Corded Hand Vac (HV292): If you prefer a corded option, this vacuum offers powerful suction and comes with multiple attachments, making it versatile for car cleaning.

  • Bissell AutoMate Lithium Ion Cordless Handheld Vacuum (2284): Specifically designed for cars, it includes a motorized brush and specialized tools for pet hair, making it a great choice for pet owners.

Choose based on your specific needs, such as whether you prefer cordless convenience or the power of a corded vacuum.
