General Puzzle Experience
The puzzles in the Resident Evil 4 remake have sparked a variety of reactions from players. Some find them frustrating due to their finicky nature and lack of clarity, while others appreciate the challenge they present [1:1]
[1:3]
[4:1]. The difficulty can vary depending on the player's familiarity with the original game and their problem-solving approach
[5:2].
Specific Puzzle Solutions
Emblem Box Puzzle: This puzzle involves matching designs on emblems to open a box. Players have noted that the design can be difficult to make out, especially on higher difficulties [1]. A suggested solution is to focus on the key in the center rather than the mosaic lines
[5:1].
Pedestal Puzzle: For this puzzle, a common solution for hardcore and professional levels is to press the bottom right twice, the bottom left twice, and then once at the top [2:1]
[2:2].
Crystal Ball Puzzle: This puzzle involves aligning symbols, which some players found challenging due to the need for precise placement [4:3]. One strategy is to align the colors in the order of green, red, then blue
[4:4].
Church Puzzle: Players suggest focusing on making the glass shapes fit around the gold in the middle, rather than getting caught up in the mosaic lines [5:1].
Approaches to Solving Puzzles
Many players have resorted to brute force methods or looked up solutions online when stuck [3:1]
[4:12]. However, some have found success by focusing on eliminating incorrect options and gradually narrowing down the possibilities
[3:2]. Others recommend paying attention to clues provided in the game, such as notes or environmental hints, which can guide the player towards the solution
[4:2].
Difficulty Variations
The difficulty of puzzles may change based on the game's difficulty setting. Some players have noted that puzzles become more complex on higher difficulty levels, requiring more thought and problem-solving [2:3]
[4:5]. Additionally, the remake has introduced changes to some puzzles, making them more challenging compared to the original version
[5:4].
Overall, the Resident Evil 4 remake's puzzles offer a mix of challenges that can be both rewarding and frustrating, depending on the player's approach and experience with the game.
Considering you can barely make out the design on the emblems, trying to match them up in order to open the box is nigh impossible. Yes, it IS doable, but on your first time it takes you SO much longer than it should. I had this problem on the HD REMASTER as well, as in higher resolution/textures. I can’t imagine what it was like trying to solve this on the Gamecube; can’t see jack! whatever. I love this game and all it’s bullish. ☂️
Long live Resident Evil. Cheers 🍻
I mean sometimes placing the pieces is finicky but I’ve never had trouble making out the design.
Yes! It's just annoying at how finicky it is when you're trying to place the pieces. If they're not perfect it won't register.
I personally find it to be one of the easiest in the franchise personally
I love it
yes, that puzzle is a frustrating pain in the ass
For hardcore and pro the solution is 2 times bottom right, 2 times bottom left and then one time north. Always worked for me on PS
Thanks y’all I figured it out
I think most puzzles change slightly on hardcore/pro
No puzzles no puzzles no puzzles no puzzles!
I have to laugh at myself. I first encountered this on Assisted level and thought: easy peasy.
I got to it on Professional level and was wondering why it wasn't just snapping into place???
Then I actually started paying attention to what I was doing and I realized why it was taking me longer than normal: I actually had to apply my mind to problem solving!
Humbling moment. Then I laughed.
I think that ones the same every time, I remember that if you place them in an order of ABC then you press the bottom right twice, the bottom left twice then the top once that it does it for you.
If you can't do that, all you gotta do is move it until something happens.
I wish they made this puzzle simpler. It feels more difficult that the other puzzles in the game. It seems like some people are simply brute forcing the solution rather than trying to solve it.
I feel like I did a middle ground between brute force and solving it. I basically worked my way in, only focusing on eliminating bits I know wouldn't solve it. It kinda brute forced it but also cut down the amount of checks by about half.
Well of course i know him its me
I've honestly just been brute forcing these by looking at the number in the upper right and toggling each switch left to right until I see it raise each time. Works well and fast. Each one takes me about 30 seconds or less.
The one for the optional treadute was actually a tough puzzle for me...so thanks!
I'm not ashamed to say I rocket launchered the first one, then went back, bought a second launcher, and took out the second one, too.
You can shoot the puzzles?
Lol my bad. The regeneradors
Imagine if that actually worked.
Leon: Oh no the church has a gate up with a weird key I need to find.
Pulls out rocket launcher and blows down gate
When in doubt, blow it up
Lmao I was wondering the same thing cuz lord knows I've tried
Thanks homie. Saving this for my next playthrough
I have played all the Resident Evils besides 0. This is the only game where I have to look up solutions to puzzles, and part of the reason is , I hate puzzles that make you run around looking for clues or make no sense.
The closet puzzle in chapter one says something about a crop, a swineherd ,a pig and a babe. And because the symbols to me aside from the crop, is not very clear. I am standing there looking like an idiot.
This happened so much in this game that I have started to look up the solutions. Puzzles like the crystal ball took me maybe 20 seconds, why is that? Because I don't have to look for the pieces.
Does anyone else absoloutely hate these puzzles and just go to youtube?
That picture puzzle was never an issue with me, maybe because I happened upon the note first. I agree the puzzles are a lot of gathering things and the pace suffers with intermittent stop/start combat. I feel like maybe it's easy to see them as overall hard when the awesome sweaty gameplay wont let me breath in how it's solved or where to get the next piece.
The RE7 horse head door puzzle in the early game is a good example of how to make a gathering-shit puzzle good. The first piece weaves into a major event, followed by having to backtrack and being cornered by a stalker for the 2nd, and the final piece is the close of an act, and the world design leads the player right where they need to go once they have all three.
But yeah I absolutely see your point. On a side note, as I've gotten older, unless it's a dedicated puzzle game, I have less patience for puzzles in games like this in general and don't wait long before looking up how to essentially skip it. A lot of people might relate.
I have had no issue with any puzzles in any resident evil game. These puzzles i think way outside of the box or the execution of stuff and how precise you have to be like the church puzzle, is obnoxious as hell. These puzzles arent fun and a lot of the suffer from having to look for pieces or the pieces not being clear
I understand and can relate with how I breezed through puzzles in old REs. Ironically, I now tend to struggle with the more traditional puzzles like the 10 minutes I spent turning that damn crystal ball like an idiot
With the church puzzle, I find it a lot easier to align in the order of green, red, then blue.
I have the exact opposite opinion. I hate that all the puzzles are absolutely brain dead easy.
I want some really tough puzzles that make the first playthrough challenging but don’t hurt future playthroughs as you can breeze through them with knowing the solutions.
Edit: for example. I would have loved if there were more books to read from in the house with the locked cabinet/crystal ball and they all had tidbits to hint at what the lock could be, especially if none of them had bolded text.
Brain dead puzzles alright. This guy wouldn’t of survived on the OG re puzzles with no internet
I did. Every single one of them. From RE1 to Code Veronica to whatever. Absoloutely every single one. So I don't know what exactly you are talking about.
The original 4 had mild ass puzzles so remake improved some of them, even if marginally
Not really, the only ones I hate are the electronic gates near the end game and it's not that I do not understand them I just can't visualize 2 steps ahead.
Agreed. RE2R did that type of puzzle much better. It’s the one where you have to match the symbols on the monitor. Heck, I’d rather take the waveform puzzle with that little device as it at least felt more engaging.
Same here. Its almost a game of chance for me.
I think they’re quite easy after like one or two playthroughs. I’ve got most of them all memorized, which is actually pretty useful for when you’re speedrunning the game to get an S+ rank.
Everyone is focusing on the mosaic lines, that makes it harder
Just focus on making then fit around the key
(I crashed out multiple times, in till I tried that)
(Re4 remake)
I always found it easy even in the original and the remake was also easy. Idk maybe because i had prior knowledge with the original and i kinda understood the context of it so yeah, tbh this hame didn’t have any difficult puzzles. Aside from the fucking puzzles in the laboratory! Now these! These are so annoying and i rarely use videos and guides but they were so annoying. I had fun with them at the first playthrough but after that they became annoying.
I never had issues with that puzzle.
What I did have issues with were the fucking sliding tile puzzles. I am so bad at sliding tile puzzles ;_;
Its super easy in the original for some reason but they rlly buffed it in the remake
It's a good thing.
I’ve always found it easy. Just find the parts that have to fit together, and guide it from there.
Took me 15 minutes and two guides on my first play-through lmao, until some genius in the comments told me to just match the glass shapes with the gold in the middle to make it fit and I’ve done it within 20 seconds in subsequent playthroughs
This is my first time playing resident evil 4, and I’m so confused by this puzzle. Like idek if I’m doing it correctly, is there a hint or something near the area I have to find
Just match the images... u can turn the stones
You just have to swap them. If its lined up "correctly" swap the same faces
thank u my goat this advice out of everyone acc helped me 🥹🥹
You can flip the stones
Lock in
I will admit, my first playthrough, it took me a minute to realize the pieces rotated.
for context: this uses a webpage called "retroachievements.com" where users can add custom achievements to older games that didnt have any. theres several for the original re4, some are easy, some are insanely hard if not impossible.
but i think this is one of the harder ones i managed to do.
(now to find a new mod for the remake that changes the game up)
Is that 4 minutes or 4 hours?
4 hours. The thing with me is, i cant ignore enemies. So yeah I killed everything
Its 4 days
I just started world 4 and i literally can't beat this puzzle and it looks different from the YouTube videos i watched can please somebody help me
Wtf, how the hell are people getting stuck on a puzzle like this? There's literally 6 pieces and a billion spaces available 😭
Also, TIL they changed that puzzle in an update
I know right? This is like the 3rd time I’ve seen a question on this puzzle, which should take like 5 minutes tops to figure out.
Also, I’ve heard that they changed some things in older worlds to make it easier for newer players, which would explain the change.
I guess critical thinking is one of the reasons why many people fail at this game.
> changed some things in older worlds to make it easier for newer players
That just makes this thread and the ones before it even sadder.
I lack some braincells stop🥀
I used to go crazy because of this exact puzzle. I was stuck for like 2 days
Push the small beige block at the top 1 tile to the right, then push the small beige block at the bottom of the big greenish one 1 tile to the right also, then push the big greenish one 1 tile down, finally push the small beige block that is perpendicular to you position in the photo 1 tile to the right.
If my eyes are right that’s how you solve it
Thank you SO MUCH you are a savior
You move the northest and southest stone by one to the right. Then you move the bug stone to the south.
If the guard can see you or something, use the southest block to block it view, i think.
What is it?
think this is in the fenced in area with the large door you need Ashley to hop over and unlock
Its the little room in the farm area before the big wood door for those asking where this is.
Wait, this is that extra room by the barn isnt it? Where you let Ashely piggyback to open the door during the night? By the windmill?
Yeah but i dont remember the room looking that chopped
Me either i dont recall it being that broken up
Yes
Don’t know what I’m looking at
Chapter 1-1 still. The farm just past the main village. You have to drop down to the area, as it’s seperated from the other two loading doors. It’s where you piggyback ashley, just behind the ladder. There’s a box or two in here but i’m pretty sure one of them rarely drops anything
I love how I know the game so well I immediately knew what room this was lol. Truly know RE4 like the back of my hand!
Seriously, iv played it so much I think I could draw every zone map and where the treasure is hidden. Heck, I can place every hidden snake
I don’t think he’s gonna fall for that one
