TL;DR
Brands and Stores
Several brands are recommended for affordable yet high-quality formal wear. Marks & Spencer is frequently mentioned for its durable formal pants [3:1],
[5:2]. Uniqlo is noted for its long-lasting basics that don't require ironing
[3:2],
[3:6]. Van Heusen offers fashionable formals that last with frequent washing
[3:2], and their shirts are praised for maintaining a fresh look over time
[5:3].
Sales and Discounts
Shopping during sales can significantly reduce costs. Many stores have biannual sales around June-July and December-January [3:3]. Brands under the Bestseller group, such as Only and Vero Moda, offer discounts that make them more accessible
[3:1]. Online platforms like Myntra also host events like the EORS sale, where you might find good deals
[3:9].
Tailoring and Customization
While ready-made options are convenient, tailoring can provide a better fit and silhouette [3:2]. Some users suggest buying materials and having them tailored for a custom fit
[1:1]. However, if time is a constraint, stores like Westside and Lifestyle offer ready-made options that are worth considering
[4:2],
[4:6].
Specific Recommendations
For formal shoes, Bata and Metro are recommended for their designs [5:3]. Cobb retail store offers comfortable cotton trousers
[5:1]. For those looking for machine-washable items, H&M has some wide-legged pants that are praised for their quality and ease of maintenance
[5:3].
By focusing on these brands and strategies, you can find affordable formal wear that meets your needs without compromising on quality or style.
Where can I buy formal wear for women. Like formal shirts, office pants , kurta sets etc ?
Try century fashion city
Buy online
lifestyle, trends
Usually ive seen my colleagues giving materials to a tailor. If you want readymade, I think Max might have some, but the collection might be less

What’s your budget?
Everything is so expensive. I want good quality because I will only be getting 2 to 3 tops and trousers. I checked Pantaloons, and the bill for 3 tops is around 2.5k. I need recommendations for cheaper alternatives.
It's best if you can get it tailored, gives the best silhouette and high quality clothing. Next, I'd go for uniqlo, they carry good basic formals, lasts long time(i have these trousers that dont require ironing, they are always in prim condition) for fashionable formals, you can go for Van Heusen. It's a good one time investment and clothes last long even with frequent washing.
Male here.
Good quality formal wear will be expensive. But, will also last you years. And by that I mean 3-5 years or more.
Westside has a good collection for males. I’m sure, it will have for women as well.
I mostly steer clear of HnM and Zara for the high price to quality ratio.
Another 2 brands I swear by are Jack and Jones, Selected, both of which are under Bestseller group, which has Only and Vero Moda for women. Buy during biannual 50% discounts. Their quality is top notch.
Marks and Spencer is the goat of formal wear.
I also swear by jack and jones , decent quality for the price, similar to other brands like uspa, arrow etc for men However, genuine question.. how to track the sales of these brands , via ecommerce apps?
Most shopping malls and stores have sales around June-July, and again during December-January.
I mostly do not buy clothes online.
>I mostly steer clear of HnM and Zara for the high price to quality ratio
You’re not wrong but many people do have great experiences with these brands( both quality and sizes). For petite sizing H&M is honestly lifesaving, so many brands just don’t cater to us.
For women, there’s not a lot of brands which provide good quality and stylish western wears.
I can understand your problem.
But both HnM and Zara have a lot of plastic clothes- full of polyester. I hardly find natural fabrics.
I don't think you'll get cheaper than 2.5k for 3 if you're looking for good quality, that seems reasonable to me if they're good quality products
I don't know abt the quality. They're just from pantaloons online
There's myntra EORS coming up, you can check there. But 800 per top for decent quality products isn't that expensive, our shirts cost like 1500 for good quality ones
Uniqlo, Fable street and marks and Spencers. Think long term. Each pair of trousers from these stores has lasted me over 3 years and still looks new. All others have had buttons come off, have frayed or faded.
Agreed on M&S and Uniqlo, Mango also has decent trousers I’ve worn for years
2.5k for 3 tops is reasonable. Inflation has been crazy since covid. Money 💰 has lost a lot of value
no I don't have time to get them stiched
Idk if there is Van Heusen woman and Allen Solly woman in Jammu, but they'd be my best bet. You can also check out Lifestyle, Westside. Trousers and shirts you'll easily find, good quality blazer I'm not sure about.
I had the same problem, I ended up buying the trouser from westside, and a men's formal shirt as well (shoulders were off but no one notices that when it's inside a blazer, women's section didn'thave those proper formal shirts). And I borrowed a blazer from a friend.
All the best! And do let us know where you end up finding it.
I got pants trousers from madame, suit and shirts from monalisa
I didn't know that Monalisa carried formals for women! Thanks :)
+1 but for men and i have the time to get them stitched
SC Sharma and Sons. They have some of the finest tailors and man their work if just top tier.
pocket friendly?
I bought the trousers from max (wave mall) they were good .. rest you can try ..westside, lifestyle
Guys I'm looking for reasonably priced, good formal wear for women within budget. Where do y'all shop? I need blazer, white shirt, formal shoes and formal black pants. It should be machine washable and long lasting. Any leads will be appreciated. Thanks.
The best formal pants are by Marks And Spencer.
For formal shoes you can try Bata and Metro (Slightly expensive but better designs)
For pants - There is this one wide legged good quality (surprisingly) from HnM that I love. It doesn't even require ironing and it doesn't catch lint. https://www2.hm.com/en_in/productpage.1090271001.html
For shirts: There are many options but I ended up going for the cheaper ones initially and had to replace them withing a couple of months because they started looking really washed out. Eventually I purchased shirts from Van Heusen. They are expensive but also look expensive. I didn't have much option because I needed the shirts to be plain without any details (dress code). Westside has great formal shirts but they have stripes or prints or contrasting buttons at times. If that's okay with you then surely go for westside.
Hope this helps 😉
Try westside?
+1,,,, especially the brands wardrobe and luna blu are everything you‘re looking for imo
I got formal cotton trousers from Cobb retail store, they are sooo comfy and fit me like a glove! You should check them out.
Where are you ladies buying your formal clothes from? Up until now i usually just bought from TJ/marshall/costco but now i need some better professional / formal stuff. Where should i look?
I like ann taylor's suits and dresses!
Hi everyone!
My partner has been on the hunt for some stylish women’s formal corporate wear and finds herself stuck. It seems like all the options out there are either lackluster in style or make my wallet weep.
She’s a lawyer and wants to exude confidence and charm in the workplace with a wardrobe that says ‘professional’ but with a pinch of pizzazz. Something like Suits or The Good Wife.
Does anyone have the inside scoop on where to snag some adorable and fashionable pieces that won’t break the bank?
She’s open to online stores, brick-and-mortar shops, or even lesser-known brands that deserve some love.
Thanks a bunch in advance for sharing your fashion wisdom!
There is actually a real gap in women’s corporate wear between affordable but not amazing quality and expensive and quality. It’s been a minute since I worked in legal office but Cue and Saba are the two that come straight to mind though they will be more than $200 per piece full priced (and quality may have changed since I shopped there last). A blazer made of wool/wool blend will be significantly more. Maybe start browsing a few stores, checking sizing in each and then when they have a sale swoop in. My only other advice is to pay attention to quality fabrics and check that it is well sewn - it will make a difference to even a more affordable piece.
Maybe try the Country Road / Trenery outlet site.
Edited to add - I've stocked my wardrobe from this site over the last couple of years. I check it almost daily and grab bargains as they come along. It helps to try things on in store to get an idea of your size with their varying styles. I find Trenery more consistent and know that in a tighter style I'm 14 and looser I'm a 12. Countryroad is a bit more of a lucky dip. I've now moved on to updating my partners wardrobe.
Affordable means different to anybody - a ballpark budget per piece would help with suggestions.
That’s a great point. I think $200 per piece would be acceptable.
Marcs hasn't been mentioned yet so I'll just pop that on here. SABA is really good too.
Sheike has some lovely blazers and pantsuits and has sales pretty often :) my friend that recently graduated as a psychologist has a small budget and needed some new pieces and was happy with the things she got there
Any recommendations for places to buy formal dresses that are both comfortable and flattering on a curvy figure?
Business professional for curvy if you mean extended sizing: my best bets were Calvin Klein, especially as they tended to be stretchier, or MM Lafleur’s earlier styles on ThredUp for plus size
Business professional for curvy if you mean different proportions than most cuts: my best bets have been department stores in person. Many have stylists who you can tell ahead of time your sizing, preferences, colors, etc and they’ll help find brands that match those. Otherwise I have purchased dresses that fit my biggest body part and gotten them tailored to fit the curves.
Second Calvin Klein.
Just so I don’t make a recommendation that isn’t the right size range - curvy as in shape or as in extended sizing?
Just shape!
I like Judith & Charles (was called Teenflo years ago). Especially good when they have sales as prices have gone up.
Have also had limited success with Loft and Ann Taylor, more hit or miss but lucked out with ponte knit fabrics.
(Edited for clarity)
Assuming you’re going with extended sizing, I’d try City Chic. Don’t buy it through Nordstrom, etc but on their website. They’ve always got a sale. It’s not the most amazing quality but it’ll serve its purpose.
When you say formal, do you mean business professional? Or formal for, like, a gala?
Business professional!!

Formals meaning suit, suit vest, suit pant, shirt, tie, etc, where can I find them? In which shops in cheap price?
If you want a proper fit then you have to customize it. There are lots of shops on the elephant road towards the multiplane, sell readymade suits which are cheap. I(Male) made one customized from BS Bhabon (opposite of multiplane) which cost me around 6.5k
Eto taka nai bhai, for now cheap is ok
Then go for readymade suits though there are not bad
Elephantroad

affordable formal wear for women
Key Considerations for Affordable Formal Wear for Women
Budget: Determine your budget range. Affordable options typically range from $50 to $150, but you can find great deals on sales or clearance items.
Fabric and Quality: Look for dresses made from quality materials like polyester blends, cotton, or jersey that offer comfort and durability without breaking the bank.
Style and Fit: Consider styles that flatter your body shape, such as A-line, sheath, or wrap dresses. Ensure the fit is comfortable; you may want to try on different sizes or styles.
Versatility: Choose pieces that can be dressed up or down. A classic little black dress (LBD) or a tailored blazer can be paired with different accessories for various occasions.
Accessories: Sometimes, adding accessories like statement jewelry, a stylish clutch, or elegant shoes can elevate a simple outfit without needing to spend much on the dress itself.
Recommendations:
ASOS: Offers a wide range of affordable formal wear options, including dresses and suits, often with trendy styles.
H&M: Known for budget-friendly fashion, they have a selection of formal dresses and separates that are stylish and affordable.
Zara: While slightly higher in price, Zara often has sales where you can find chic formal wear at reasonable prices.
Nordstrom Rack: A great place to find discounted designer pieces, including formal wear, at a fraction of the original price.
Thrift Stores: Don’t overlook thrift shops or online thrift platforms like Poshmark or Depop for unique, affordable formal wear options.
By focusing on these considerations and exploring these recommendations, you can find stylish and affordable formal wear that meets your needs.
