TL;DR
Paladin Multiclass Options
For those interested in a Noldorin Elf Lord-inspired build, the Paladin class offers strong thematic elements. A popular choice is to multiclass Paladin with Sorcerer or Warlock for enhanced spellcasting abilities [1:1]. The Paladin-Sorcerer combination provides access to powerful spells while maintaining melee prowess, whereas Paladin-Warlock can be effective for ranged attacks using Eldritch Blast, though it may not fit the Noldor theme as well.
Dark Elf and Half-Elf Builds
Dark elves can explore battlemage or monk builds for a mix of melee and magic [2:1]. For half-elves, Ranger builds are recommended due to their versatility and synergy with animal companions
[3:1]. The Ranger/Cleric multiclass is particularly noted for its power, offering access to both druid and cleric spells
[5:4].
Eldritch-Themed Builds
For players interested in eldritch themes, incorporating arcane elements into melee-focused builds can create a compelling character. Combining strength and arcane abilities allows for powerful attacks and spellcasting [4:2]. This setup benefits from the eerie aesthetic and can include items like the Great Sword of Damnation for thematic consistency
[4:1].
Elf Archer and Bard Builds
Elves are highly effective as archers, benefiting from racial bonuses that enhance dexterity and accuracy [5:7]. Additionally, elves make excellent bards, leveraging their charisma and agility to support allies and control the battlefield
[5:5]. These roles capitalize on the elf's natural affinity for ranged combat and musical enchantments.
Considerations for Choosing Race and Class
While racial bonuses can influence gameplay, they won't drastically alter your experience. It's important to choose a class that aligns with your desired playstyle and then select a race that complements it [5:6]. Whether you opt for pure elf or half-elf, focus on the synergy between class abilities and racial traits to maximize effectiveness.
This is my second play through. I initially played as a battle master Fighter which was a pretty simple build. I'm now looking to play as a Noldorin Elf Lord House of Fingolfin inspired Paladin. So far I'm level 3 with Oath of the Ancients. So far Ive put most of my points into strength and Charisma. Should I multi-class? I was seeing good combo for Paladin-Socercer or Paladin-Warlock (though don't think that would work well with my Noldor inspiration. Any specific spells, feats, I should definitely go for? Thanks!
The multiclasses go like this:
7Warlock/5paladin -> usually combo'd for more melee attacks and ranged capacity with EB. It will work well with the great old one warlock. With pact of the blade you can abandon strength entirely and focus on charisma only.
10 Swords Bard/2 paladin -> gives you great spellcasting, access to spells like hold monster, haste and counter spell. Very good at range as well, you will have a lot of smite spellslots. You can do it all.
10 Lore bard/2 paladin -> great spellcasting, cutting words is a great supporting tool. You get additional magical secrets for more spells.
7 Sorcerer/5 paladin -> good spellcasting, good support, plenty of smites. Try using storm sorcerer.
IMO: swords bard/warlock are the best. Lore is slightly weaker but still great, sorcerer is good.
coming from skyrim i only ever do melee and use magic to heal but i wanna try to do something different what should i be going for
Try a battlemage, OR hand to hand build, like a monk.
I'm playing a half-elf barbarian, but I'm getting bored with this class. Could any of you share some good builds with detailed explanations for half-elves? Thanks in advance!
Which half elf? Different ones have slightly different synergies with classes. Also what is the rest of the party like?
With the only info you've given being half elf, most ppl gonna tell you to get Booming Blade as a cantrip and then it works very well with alot of different martial classes.
Is booming blade really that strong? I see it everywhere but figured it was just the new toy everyone wanted to play with and the hype would die down.
It's just a straight up better attack action. Free damage on your melee strike with even more free damage if they move after. And because it still uses your standard hit stats for your weapon it doesn't matter that half elf cantrips use int, contrasting with every other damaging cantrip option.
Got alot of synergy with alot of gear and playstyles
Having the Mobile feat on a Bladesinger, applying booming blade and running away is wonderful.
I have it also on a hexblade/oathbreaker and it works alongside divine smite. Colorful numbers go vwooooosh
Except Barbarian, where it only works well if you don't intend to rage.
Yeah hell yeah
Unless in multi-player, my parties have never consisted of a Barbarian so I sort of forgot
I'd recommend swashbuckler and drunken master monk in particular for this. Both get a free disengage and really benefit from the spell.
Any race can be any class. What do you want the character to do?
I enjoyed my Beast Master Ranger, maybe a dip in fighter or rogue or both, depending on play style. This was for a half-wood elf of course. RP was fun, and I feel like a lot of people overlook the Ranger dialogue options. As for build and combat:
Take Ranger Knight if you want heavy armor or else Bounty Hunter and Ensnare everything. Beast tamer to get the raven that blinds people. Archery fighting style. Beast master to summon the big bear. If you monoclass or at least get to 11 Ranger, your animal friend gets two attacks per turn and have crazy high AC and HP. Add in your own two attacks, you can have six attacks per turn bc the feature works for ALL beast master companions. And the Bear just tanks all damage, and can goad everyone into attacking it and ignoring your squishy spell caster companions.
Gear: depends on play style. I preferred to summon the beasts and then stay back and make ranged attacks, so I used armor of agility and crit-boosting gear and weapons-the helmet, the knife, the bow, etc. arrows of many targets for crowds, slaying arrows for bosses. Alternatively, could use Titan bow plus cloud giant pots to get consistently high damage, or mix and match.
By staying back from the fight, you almost never get hit, and even if an enemy gets close enough, you generally have awesome AC. It actually got a bit too easy (on tactician) so I starting messing around with soloing fights and then other Ranger builds in act 3.
Sorry if this is not as detailed as you want! Part of the fun for me is figuring stuff out, so I didn’t want to take that away from you too much. Enjoy!
Been really into eldritch themes lately, and as a result, I’ve been wanting to make an eldritch-themed build, but… I suck at making builds. So, I was wondering if anyone here had any ideas for one. Ideally a melee-focused build that can spellcast if needed
imo incorporating arcane into the build would be a no-brainer for eldritch vibes, so perhaps some sort of arc/str setup? you could use that big bloodfiend arm for big bloody bonks

the new finger stuff in the dlc is pretty eldritch horror. combine it with maybe the octopus head or a faith build with GS of damnation
I am a noob and want the best half-elves classes. are elves better and should I go with a thief or fighter mage. help me
You can do either of those things. I think half elves can also go ranger/cleric, which opens up some interesting options with ranger access to druid spells.
Fighter/cleric is great, pure Fighter (berserker kit) is fantastic as well.
Any and all are good, do what speaks to you and have fun with it, there really aren't any wrong answers.
Ranger/Cleric is a great way to bring a flailbot online at level 1.
Especially good for BG2, get the foa and doe, then go to town.
A quick breakdown can be found here
The racial bonuses they get are not as good as elves. But, they do have access to some multi-classes that other races do not.
And Viconia will share a bed roll with you.
Elves are better. Mechanically, the only reasons to go half-elf instead is so you can either select a class pure elves aren't allowed, romance Viconia, or you feel 18 CON is absolutely essential.
I think half elves are the only class that can be cleric/ranger which is arguably the most powerful class in the game
Cleric/Ranger and Fighter/Druid.
Apparently in pen and paper, one of their advantages was the ability to take any valid multiclass, and substitute fighter for ranger, or cleric for druid. But that would've been a lot to implement, so we only have the two fighter/cleric substitutions in game.
In theory you could've been things like ranger/thief or druid/mage though, which would've been neat if the budget and deadline had allowed it.
Not in EE though.
The only valid answer here is Viconia. Anything else is secondary.
they are also the best bard race.
None of racial bonuses will make or break game. Pick the class you wanna play and then think about race.
Elf Archer is ridiculously good
Hey everyone. I am coming back to the game after a few patches of not playing and I want to try out the new subclasses, or at least one of them at minimum.
Are there any cool build with them? (Mono or multiclass, is both possible) I wouldn't mind mixing with the "old" classes as long as at least one new Subclass is in there. I assume the Hexblade is gonna be pretty busted with Bard or Paladin. Anything else? We're going to play an evil playthrough on honour mode and the only gameplay-relevant mod we'll have is 5e Spells. :)
Any and all recommendations are welcome, the more detailed the better. Bonus points for a tank OR support build. (I am playing with someone who has never beaten honour mode and want to support them to make them feel invincible.)
Another radiant build recommendation, but the stars druid dragon form is the perfect companion for radiant orb builds. Everyone will tell you to go 2 stars 10 light cleric. But I've done enough cleric builds and not enough druid builds so I'm doing 1 cleric for utility like sanctuary and bless (death cleric makes your cantrips 2x more effective, not that you'll use them after level 6 much) then the rest into stars druid with the radiant orb + reverb gear. The reason I think people sleep on full stars druid is they focus more on radiant orbs with spirit guardians (which admittedly is very likely better, but closer in power than you might think) and less on battlefield control + burst damage.
Conjure woodland beings is at will spike growth and 2 respectable melee fighters with lots of ways to restrain targets that fall prone from reverb thus skipping their whole turn. Your dragon breath can break bottles of water letting you follow it up with max rank call lightning. Water elemental combos more with the water side of the build with pools of water and chill effects. Sunbeam is your capstone, probably not as strong as call lightning with wet but it pairs great with your build if you want something more fun than your typical vulnerability exploiting lightning caster.
This gives you a tanky frontliner with sorcerer levels of damage, amazing battlefield control with great "oh shit" options like sanctuary, all while being strong in act 1, and almost totally online with best in slot gear in act 2 (only missing displacement cloak and markoheshkir if you're the only spellcaster) oh and the total build is very cheap too letting the money go elsewhere.
Playing it in a honor mode with 2 people who've never beaten honor mode and we're crushing everything with just 3 characters.
Good old fashioned 1 hexblade/11 crown paladin with arcane acuity gear to taunt people successfully
This of it as a Royal protector with a bit of a loose tongue
Crown paladin with spirit guardians and radiating orbs can be pretty darn good as a tank support I think.
I do play now paladin 8, hexblade 1, 3 swashbuckler
Another nice class is death cleric (which I also play). Just get 12 in cleric and cast high level of aid. Play spirit guardians and dual cantrip. Might be a bit boring if you play only 1 character tho.
And then you have ofc giant barbarian thrower with tarvern brawler.
Best use for Hexblade imo is as a 1 level dip to make a melee martial CHA dependent. Two builds that massively benefit from this would be a standard 11 Fighter & 11 Paladin. 2 Hexblade is also an option on a Lore Bard build. 10 Lore Bard/2 Hexblade Warlock which could play as a Radorb debuffer similar to the standard Radorb Light Cleric builds.
A good patch 8 specific build that you could run is 10 Bladesinger Wizard/2 Paladin. If you're familiar with the control Gish archetype (like Sorcadin, Smite Swords Bard), the Bladesinger can perform that role pretty well. Slap the Helmet of Arcane Acuity and Band of the Mystic Scoundrel rings and control the battlefield. They make use of the new Shadow Blade spell as well to deal considerable amounts of damage. Here's a guide for it if you want to read more.
I've been in this subreddit for a while, and here's all the S Tier builds I've been able to gather. Am I missing any?
I'll have to add this once Reddit lets me edit the post. (Swords Bard, too.)
Please make sure to mention inherent synergy with The Deathstalker Mantle.
You effectively break the 90% of encounters with Deep Gnome/Lightfoot Halfling, Assassin Gloomstalker with this piece of equipment long before getting to Greater Invisibility. Not a single full turn will fully resolve with you going in and out of encounter and reseting turns. Each turn is effectively first turn of combat, which gives you insane burst through combination of Dread Ambush and Assassinate, while enemies won't have time to act. This build changes the game into something that doesn't even look like D&D.
The only places were dip-in, dip-out doesn't work are specifically Myrkul, Final Boss and most likely Raphael (haven't tested this one personally) due to being forced into arena with no retreat paths and either soft or hard timer, but Myrkul can be slain with good old Greater Invisibility cheese and so can Raphael.
Assassin Gloomstalker
2Pal 10Bard SSB
1Fighter 1Wiz 10Bard
RadOrb/Reverb Light Cleric
Free-BladeWard Life Cleric
11Sorc 1Lock Fire Acuity
RadOrb/Reverb Light Cleric
I just put this build on Shart in my current play through as a SmiteBard with Phalar Aluve. The Phalar Procs + Spirit Guardian + RadOrb/Reverb damage is insane.
Prestigious Juice is the definitive source for some key builds, particularly Fire Acuity.
I don’t really like that OP only linked to his own guides that are worse than PJ’s. It feels academically dishonest. None of these ideas were developed in a vacuum, we build on each other’s ideas, and the right thing to do is acknowledge that.
The mods really should sticky a master post with PJs builds at the top of this sub.
They are the end game boss of all builds BG3.
Dude, this is no academia. We aren't obligated to know what everyone has come up with. I certainly don't know who 1st came up with Fire Acuity and when, because I came up with it myself too, long before I joined this sub. Everyone can use bg3.wiki and fextralife and look up game mechanics from there and come up with their own ideas. It's not hard to know of Arcane Acuity once you've played the game and tried it, then it's not hard to look up the wiki or fextralife for sources of Acuity.
I haven't once clicked to view a guide on this sub. I don't care if they exist. I like coming up with my own builds and no one's telling me I can't enjoy what I like to enjoy. No one's telling me how I play my game. No one's gonna say I haven't done what I have done and voting down me isn't going to change that. I came up with Fire Acuity build, not claiming the 1st nor the best, but I'm sure everyone can, and many others have. Maybe the OP have too, it's not rocket science.
Yeah replace the fire acuity self-plug in the OP with the original definitive guide. Also cross out the 'skill monkey' build and replace it with Swords Bard and this list of top builds is ok.
I was gonna do that (and add Light Cleric & Assassin Gloomstalker), but Reddit isn't letting me edit the post.
Skill monkey on their but not either sword bard setup? ???
this list absolutely needs 10/1/1 and 10/2 ssb, those are probably the 2 most mentioned S tier builds on the sub in general.
Yeah, I virtually stumbled into the pure swords bard, dual hand-xbow build, and it was S tier. And I know there are variants, like 11 sb/ 1 wizard, etc.
So I just completed my Honor Mode so I am over min/maxing and looting everything in site. I want to charge head on into fights and have some fun!
I think id like to try monk and sorlock Eldritch blast galor. Could anyone suggest some fun builds to go with those?
Land Druid can be a lot of fun if you enjoy messing with terrain. You could also take a beastmaster ranger, they get to spam darkness once you hit level 11.
If taking a land druid, I would consider taking something that has hunger of hadar as well (Bard or Warlock). Stacking hunger on top of plantgrowth is a good time. You can do similar things with insect plague and cloudkill too.
Even better, your land druid is unaffected by the plant growth, and your party can stand in their own cloudkill if you use heroes' feast. Keep in mind tho, the land druid may compete with your sorlock a little for gear depending on how you build them.
I like the Hunger of Hadar + Sleet Storm combo. Not only are the mobs slowed but they also fall prone. Then use Eldritch Blast + Repelling Blast to blast anyone back inside if they manage to get out.
I always wonder what i am missing there. HoH alone doesnt really do a lot of dmg, right? Even if targets are wet. Maybe I have to optimize with multiple Icestorms on top of that... or am I missing something else?
That sounds cool! I think I might definitely try the land Druid! Hunger of Hadar is a cool spell I haven’t used a lot too.
How about a Spores or Land Druid for Spike Growth, make the monk open hand for pushing flurry of blows, blaster lock can control a whole crowd with repelling blast, I think a Lore Bard would round out that party well, or a Tome Lock who can also push back into the terrain and use Hunger of Hadar on top of it.
So my party would be
Spores Druid - Guidance, Spike Growth, some minions
Open Hand Monk - build however you want
Eldritch Blast blaster (Sor 6 / GOO Warlock 2 / Champion Fighter 4) - Blaster, twin spell Haste for big fights
Lore Bard - Spike Growth, Counterspell, Hunger of Hadar, Haste, Fireball, Spirit Guardians are all contenders for Magical Secrets
I just thought this up and idk how viable it would be, but just full on fire sorcadin.
5 levels Paladin, 7 Sorcerer
Red Dragonborn with Red Draconic Ancestry for flavor.
Everburn Blade and Hat of Fire Acuity.
Yup, this one’s great, especially Oathbreaker to get Hellish Rebuke into your combat loop. 6/6 has the same spell slots as 5/7, trades 1-2 4th level spells for much better saving throws.
The nature paladin archer. 5 ancient paladin, 4 spore Druid, 3 gloomstalker ranger.
You get access to 1 of only 2 ranged smites: branding smite, at pal 5. Spore Druid is for the extra necrotic damage rider and spell progression, ranger helps even our half caster levels, archery fighting style, get initiative, and a free attack at the start of each combat.
You also get ensnaring strike, which can be like a mini smite and casts at level 1.
I'd go 6/4/2 to get the Paladin Aura. You actually get the same spell slots. You lose 2nd level druid spells.
You get one less level 4 slot.
6 pal, 4 ranger is 5th level caster + 2 Druid = 7
5 pal + 3 ranger is 4th caster + 4 Druid = 8
The difference between 7th and 8th level casters is 1 vs 2 level 4 slots.
So going into 6 pal for the aura is definitely a fair trade-off
The MADman
Multi attribute dependent 5/2/5 monk/warlock/abjurer who uses the offhand giant strength club, gloves of dex, and the intellect circlet and goes 15 con, 17 Wis, 16 cha.
Punch people to death in the dark and retaliate with armor of agathys if they manage to hit you.
Tavern brawler and an ASI to even out your con and Wis.
ETA: armor of shadows and devils sight are the invocations in case that isn’t clear.
Sounds great
I have a question about the elves. Do they make a good warrior class or they better suit form and rogue?
Purely cosmetic! I always go elf, the main difference is certain dialog options that allow you to use your elven background. Same with any other race, which would give you different options if you chose them instead.
There are no functional differences between races in this game.
Except dwarves can't be mages.
Mage feels most natural per lore imo, but that's my opinion
For an elf, you can play as any class. Both warrior and rogue works well and neither is better than the other just depends on your playstyle and what you prefer if you are looking at the two of them. Like for me, I like playing as a rogue so that’s what I usually end up doing (which is not depended on my playing an elf)
the only time class because a thing you can’t do is when playing as a dwarf who can’t be mages bc they can’t do magic but any other race can be any class and aren’t better suited for any one class.
I have been playing around with most of the classes, testing their builds and came with few I think are among the best ones. If you have your own favorite builds or think other builds might be better let me know :D. I have not tested Monk or Berserker yet, so I do not know about them. My best builds list:
Overall all the classes are extremely well balanced providing tons of different combinations :D. Tho there are some subclasses that felt weak for me. I think Wisdom / Spellcasting Cleric is a bit lackluster, the buffs are nice, but you have concentration issues, damage is not great and you do not need too many healing spells anyway. Ranger with Pet is also a bit weak compared to other classes I feel, its super fun for RP, other its subclasses are ok but fighting is kinda off for the pet one :D. Have not tried monks or barbs yet, but all else feels really good still. I think Fighter (2 lvls) and Wizard (1 lvl) are the best small additions for the most of the builds.
Any ideas on other good builds? Which are yours favorite builds?
9 open hand monk/ 3 thief. Tavern brawler. Max strength instead of dex.2 attacks and 2 bonus actions for flurry of blows. Extra damage added in. So many items buff unarmed attacks. Control with stagger, push, stun. Thrown weapon dmg if you somehow arent in range to melee. My minsc was broken with this build.
I am trying this on my second playthrough :D. I saw so many 'unarmed' items throughout the game, but had no time to check monks yet
Its so good. Add in the spear that returns on a throw...my god he cleared out 3 or more enemies a turn sometimes
How are you mixing the classes like this? From what I'm understanding you're char playing sometimes 3 dif accesses and still having all of the skills?
I believe you must be on Tactician difficulty in order to multi class though. If you have Withers at your camp you can reset your levels and build from level 1 again.
When your character levels you have the option to continue upgrading that class or choose to adopt another class in addition (options shown on the bottom screen). Multiplayer may have exceptions on multiclassing.
Ty ty!
What's the set up/gear for Cleric/Figther/wiz1?
baldurs gate 3 elf builds
Key Considerations for Elf Builds in Baldur's Gate 3
Race Benefits: Elves receive bonuses to Dexterity and have proficiency in Perception. This makes them excellent for classes that rely on agility and keen senses, such as Rogues and Rangers.
Subrace Choices:
Class Synergy:
Ability Scores: Focus on Dexterity for physical classes and Intelligence for spellcasters. Consider Constitution for survivability.
Skills and Feats: Choose skills that enhance your character's strengths. For example, Stealth and Acrobatics for Rogues, or Nature and Survival for Rangers. Feats like Sharpshooter or Alert can also enhance your effectiveness in combat.
Recommendation: For a balanced Elf build, consider a Wood Elf Ranger focusing on ranged combat. This build benefits from high mobility, stealth, and the ability to deal significant damage from a distance. Alternatively, a High Elf Wizard can provide powerful spellcasting capabilities while still being agile in combat. Tailor your build based on your preferred playstyle and party composition!
