What Redditors are Saying

Beach Wedding Ideas

TL;DR Consider weather, venue logistics, and guest comfort. Utilize natural beach elements for decor, and plan for potential public interference.

Venue and Logistics

Choosing the right venue is crucial for a beach wedding. Ensure your suppliers are familiar with the location to avoid logistical issues [1:1]. If you're using a public beach, be prepared for potential interference from passersby [3:1], [4:4]. Private beaches or resorts can offer more control over the environment, but may come with additional costs [1:3].

Decor and Theme

Beach-themed decor can enhance the ambiance of your wedding. Consider using sand, seashells, and nautical elements like "message in a bottle" centerpieces [2:1]. Creative ideas like beach balls as decorations or starfish wine stoppers as favors can add a unique touch [2:2]. For a budget-friendly option, food trucks can provide a memorable dining experience, though they may require permits [3:5].

Weather and Timing

Weather is an important consideration for beach weddings. While February might have favorable weather, it's wise to have contingency plans like tents or covered areas [1:2]. Avoid scheduling during busy weekends or local events that could disrupt your ceremony [4:2]. Wind can also affect audio equipment, so plan accordingly [4:5].

Guest Comfort and Accessibility

Ensure the comfort and accessibility of your guests, especially those with mobility issues [4:4]. Barefoot sandals can be a stylish and practical choice for the bride [4:1]. Consider having a nearby restaurant or private home for the reception to manage costs and logistics [3:3].

Budget Management

Managing a budget for a beach wedding requires careful planning. Focus on major expenses like venue and food first [2:8]. Hiring a wedding planner can help streamline the process and ensure you stay within budget [5:1]. Alternatively, consider eloping to save money for future investments [5:5].

ORIGINAL POST

Hi, so my bf and I are planning to have a beach wedding sa Zambales. It would be 4 days stay sa villa with 30 members of our family for preparation and wedding.

We opted na beach wedding nalang para makatipid sa styling (though meron parin naman) in comparison if sa Tagaytay kame ikasal. (Kasi if garden wedding, I really want a ceiling treatment haha)

Question lang po, sa mga graduate bride dyan na nag beach wedding din, what are the things I need to prepare for? (Aside from weather kasi feb naman yon so weather wise, medyo ok) thanks.

Had a beach wedding. Eto pa lang naiisip ko:

Your suppliers must be familiar with the venue. Mahirap na maligaw sila. mga do's and dont's, kung may suppliers form ba na need to fill up. Buti n lng suppliers namin comfortable na sa place, so alam na nila traffic kahit everyone is from Manila.

Maganda sa photos na ang resort walang xtra bangka or mga nakikinood. Attended a beach wedding na sa resort pero maliit lng. Kita tuloy sa walking down the aisle ng bride yung mga nakahubad na bata šŸ˜… Kaya think if ok lng sa inyo may mga extra sa photos or you want a private one.

Check the villa kung kayo lng tlga tao or magaaccomodate pa din sila ng iba pang guests kasi this will impact their service and i think your wedding vibes.

Alam kong nasabi mo na pero mas sure to have plan a, b, c para sa weather. Mabilis pa rin umulan by the beach or magbago weather kahit sabihin mong feb kaya make sure na ready mg astaff ng resort and coor team mo. December wedding ako, sobrang init ng umaga until 2pm, by 3pm umambon tapos ready na ako. I prayed to God so hard, by 4pm I am walking down the aisle na. May rainbow, di umulan, di na rin mainit.

Check the sand, baka kasi masyadong malambot so possible lumubog mga paa ng entourage and guests kaya remind them to wear the most comfortable shoes/sandals. We opt to give all of our guest white slippers for this. Also, fans!

Check for the corkage fees ng venue or gano sila kahigpit.

Are you providing rooms to your guests? Or families? Dahil resort ito dagdag sa iisipin kung sino sino nakaassign sa rooms (aside sa seating arrangement) May signal ba? May wifi? Make sure na alam ng guests kung meron or wala.

Water. Dapat may unli supply ng water para sa inyo ni fiance, sa lahat ng suppliers, families and guests. Basta lalo na kayo, ang init magshoot sa beach. May stolen shot ako na nakakunot noo dahil sa init haha.

Ask if may curfew, kung trip niyo ng after party at may dj then definitely ask kung meron para di makaistorbo sa iba. Yung sa amin meron ng 10pm pero yung aftr party nmin chill inuman by the beach so di naman maingay.

Plan everything carefully. Dahil destination wedding, pano babyahe mga guests and family. Pati pala entourage! dapat nasa venue ka na a day before. Relax n lng. Wala nang last minute na prep for you to enjoy the beach.

For me, I will always choose our beach wedding. It's perfect for me and who we are as a couple. Kapag may tanong ka, pm lng. Enjoy planning!

Thank you so much ā¤ļø sobrang nakakahelp. Yes, we will rent a private villa, para sa mga family at guests na pupunta for an overnight stay.

Thank you din sa reminder ng weather, hopefully di nga sya umulan pero nung sa inyo, naglagay ba ng tent or hinayaan nalang matapos?

Then for the beach, buti nalang private beach din yung nakita namen, balak din nameng maglagay ng border para di makapasok yung iba like a wall made from white cloth. Sana maging ok na yon sya haha

For foods, ano yung pinakabest na naserve nyo given na beach sya at maganda ba response ng mga guests nyo sa overall experience?

Sabi ng stylist ko, we have until 9pm a day before the wedding to decide if mag-avail kmi ng tent. That's additional 25k. We opt out. Tiwala lang tlga šŸ˜…. Yung venue kasi namin may covered area with chairs and tables on a normal beach day so ayun ang plan b. Plan a yung may nakaready na payong for everyone (provided by the resort). Nasa covered area yung grazing table, coffee &mobile bar and buffet. Kumbaga di kami masyado nhirapan sa resort kasi may wedding package tlga sila. (Includes stylist, accomodation and food sa reception, a day before and breakfast a day after)

Sa food, dahil resort yung amin in house pati food, may restaurant tlga sila there and sa qc kaya alam namin na masarap. Roast beef ata yung crowd favorite šŸ˜…

Our guests love our beach wedding kahit malayo (based on thejr feedback). Most of them kasi from abroad and first time umuwi since pandemic so napili nmin magbeach wedding para bakasyon and makapagrelax n din.

(5k-7,500K) Beach Wedding

Posted by ProdigyKnowsBest Ā· in r/Weddingsunder10k Ā· 1 month ago

So I wanna do a beach wedding for this budget. My fiancĆ© proposed over a week ago at the beach with a beautiful blue topaz ring. I want to have our wedding on a beach too because I love the ocean and swimming. My plan is to make it 50 guests and for it to be a daytime wedding. I want it to be like an intimate family and close friends wedding. My goal is to make it feel more like a beach day and get married. I wanna have beer buckets with spiked lemonade and some wines. I also wanna have bowls with sand on each table with sea shells and messages in bottles. (How he proposed includes a message in a bottle). The flower arrangements are gonna be done by my aunt in law (for free as a gift to us and made from her garden). So far I’m thrifting decorations and am seeing a venue soon where my fiancĆ©s parents got married. (She suggested it because it’s on a beach and it’s should be relatively inexpensive). Any ideas on what else I should do or any inspiration?

that all sounds great!

a friend who was a lifeguard had the best beach wedding…complete with a beach themed cake, and chocolate shells, she gave out starfish wine stoppers for a favor (this was years ago before favors fell out of favor). she had beach foods like fish tacos. she used sandcastle molds and beach buckets as centerpieces (can fill with water and put flowers in…or ice and stash drinks in). she had beach balls hung from the ceiling (sounds weird but was super cute and on theme).

Yep, I think this is doable! At first I thought it was probably going to be hard to find venues (beaches can also be expensive, at least in CA), but when I started looking for places in breezit, I immediately found several options below $2k. Out of all these options, though, the only one I can truly recommend is Ventura Harbor Village. According to their listing, the whole event (ceremony and reception) can last from 4-10 pm. Set up can start at 9 am, so there's plenty of time for a day wedding and a reception at sunset (sounds great tbh).

So for my sisters babyshower, she wanted a beach theme, so I did my best to make it about the esthetic of the beach: sand, sun, sea shells... I found a GIANT bottle and wove twine all over it, and it was our "message in a bottle" to give helpful tips to the new momma. I also did stout glass bowls half filled with sand and some sea shells. And then completely clear balloons stacked on top of each other to look like bubbles.

This was the cake and cups cakes I didn't for her, along with sugar cookies. Cake was made with coconut milk and extract and then had a fudge filling. Then I made meringues with a sultane tip, which looks like urchins or shells of some sort.

I had so much fun, and I just wanted to share, to help with ideas for your special day.

Tips for beach weddings?

Posted by Grouchy_Ad6186 Ā· in r/Weddingsunder10k Ā· 3 years ago

I live in California and I'm considering having a beach wedding with a food truck to cut down on costs while still having a memorable wedding without spending a fortune.

Does anyone have advice? What permits would I need for a food truck? What are some of the unforeseen expenses? Should I just go for a more traditional venue instead?

Edit: We are expecting around 100 guests. I know I probably won't be able to keep it under $10k, but I'd like to keep it cheap.

I've already gotten my rates from the food truck and it's definitely within my budget. I'm more concerned about permits.

We looked into this, it was cheaper to hire a company to do it for us and have an elopement. Once you start inviting guests, provide seating, music, any kind of decor & food the costs got to a point where we figured we’d rather have a little backyard thing.

We’re in CA too, there’s a beach town we love to go to for getaways. We thought about doing it there and hosting a few guests (12) at the restaurant we like, but doing it that way was going to cost about $8k between the beach wedding and food. We set a 10k budget and now we’re having 60 guests and a whole wedding and reception instead in a lovely backyard. It’s outdoors, a pool with a waterfall, and we’re not tied down by permits and excessive restrictions.

I really appreciate your input and I know that realistically, I'll go above 10k, but I wanna keep it as cheap as possible without eloping. My fiance and I have a combined immediate family of fifty so it would feel wrong to exclude such close loved ones.

It would help a lot if you'd say how many guests you're expecting and also the general location of the beach wedding. It's hard to answer without knowing this.

Woah. This is much larger than most beach weddings and it brings some complications.

One has to do with the food truck. I love the idea, but I doubt they're equipped to churn out enough food for this many people.

There's also some logistical issues. The vast majority of ocean beaches are either public or private, like a hotel. With the public ones, you might need permits for this many, but more importantly, you can't claim a portion of the beach. Anyone wandering by will gawk or worse. Hotel beaches aren't going to relinquish the beach for their paying guests.

There's other issues, like weather protection, restroom access, etc, but just keeping it real, if you want this many guests, you need a different plan. And if you do keep this many, it will be tough keeping it under $10k unless someone has a very big yard and house they'll let you use.

Food trucks are great for small weddings and are definitely memorable.

Some things to consider:

  • food trucks serve food per order which results in a much slower food service compared to a catered meal.
  • this will mean your guests will be eating at different times and not all at the same time as you traditionally see
  • the more people you have attending your wedding, the longer it will take to get through dinner which could cut into other activities you have planned such as your first dances
  • food trucks will usually ask for a minimum food spend to make it worth their while.

Some caterers are also willing to travel and might cater a beach wedding. It might be worth checking a few to see what the costs might be compared to a food truck.

It looks like the food truck is within my budget mostly because most of my budget is going toward food and venue. That's helpful knowledge, though.

I have and they were very helpful. It's up to me to get the correct permits, though.

Advice on beach weddings?

Posted by skyrites Ā· in r/weddingplanning Ā· 5 years ago

Hi all! Recently engaged. My finance (M26) and I (F25) want to get married on the beach sometime in early June 2021. We live in DC, where all of our friends are, but he is originally from California, and we plan to move back to California in the next few years. We’re trying to decide which coast to do it on.

Also, we’re poor. We have good stable jobs but we work in the environmental field and don’t make much. Our budget is very limited, so we’re only inviting 50 or less. For a reception, we will probably have it at someone’s home (if that works out) and make our own food to be honest. My mom will make the cake. None of that matters to us. We just want to be married in the beach!

Anyone have advice about getting married on the beach? Any information you have, any experiences are very very welcome. Thanks!

We live in CA and have been to a LOT of beach weddings! We've seen it all... we went to like 6 beach weddings in one summer alone, haha. Hopefully these random pieces of advice can help you out!

  • Check to see if you need a permit. Some beaches require them, some don't. The permits are usually pretty cheap (at least in our area) if you do need one!
  • Try to avoid major holidays or busy beach weekends. Some of our friends got married during volleyball tournaments, an annual beer fun run, and 5k weekends. Even "small" local events like these can mean there are a ton of people wandering around, getting in your way.... and they make parking horrible!
  • Don't try to wear heels in the sand unless you have some kind of aisle runner. I've seen so many brides in pain because they can't get the sand out of their heels or they're struggling to stay stable. At one of my favorite beach weddings, both the bride and groom were barefoot; it was so cute.
  • Prepare for wind! I'd say 75 percent of the beach weddings we've attended were super windy. It never really bothers me as a guest, but as a bride I'd probably adjust my hair, veil, and dress accordingly.
  • If you're going to have people stand and it's a super casual wedding, just let guests know ahead of time. A lot of our friends didn't want to pay to rent chairs, which I totally understand, but those of us with health issues need to know so we can a) bring a chair or b) make accommodations. It is more enjoyable to have somewhere to sit, though.

Lots of great advice already! Based on the beach weddings I’ve been to, here are my thoughts...

Accessibility: If you have any guests with mobility issues, like a wheelchair or walker, make sure there is some way to get them to the ceremony site safely. At one wedding they had to recruit some of the burlier male guests to carry the MOG in her wheelchair. They thought the groomsmen would be strong enough to do it, but they were not.

Randos: Beware of random people walking around behind the ceremony. If it’s a public beach this might not be avoidable, but maybe try to situate it such that people will be more inclined to go around the other way (behind your guests instead of in front of the altar/arch/etc.) Or maybe appoint someone to gently usher folks through. At one wedding that was placed facing a beautiful sunset, unfortunately an older lady in a very colorful swimsuit walked over and could be seen standing behind the wedding arch, gawking awkwardly through the entire ceremony. This lady was in most of the photos too, because it was impossible for the photographer to shoot the bride and groom while avoiding her.

Hi, I am doing a beach wedding and some things Im doing are 1) shortening the train on my dress so I dont have to drag it through the sand to just barely a baby train, 2) lots of hair oil to prevent frizz from sea salt air 3) barefoot sandals I bought on etsy so basically barefoot with beautiful pearl accents Before ceremony starts we are going to be playing some beach music like jack johnson or something

I think that if you and all your friends are in DC, it's going to be easiest to do it on the east coast. I'm assuming that like you, many might not make money at this point yet and live in a HCOL area, so flying to california and paying for their lodging might be a barrier to attending.

However, if you're unconcerned about friends attending, california sure is beautiful :)

Yeah, I have been pushing towards doing it on the east coast so people can actually come, even though California would be beautiful and is sentimental to him and us. Good point!

Outfit ideas for beach day wedding event?

Help! Not too sure what to wear. One of my wedding weekend events is a day at a beach club for everyone to just hang and have fun.

So, I obviously need a swim suit… but then im not sure what else! Brides - did you look into simple cover ups? Sarongs? ParĆ©os? How can I still serve a look?

My bathing suit will be a brown bikini with white accents, if that helps at all?

  • silk crepe with gold embroidery link
  • sleeveless crepe caftan with silver embroidery link

Any ideas of how to make all that work and still somehow surprise her? Elaborate or chill. Maybe train an actual crab to sing "Go on and kiss thee girl"?

Two ideas:

Important detail to both: you have the people you want there to pretend to be random people enjoying the beach/weather/sunset. They could be in crazy disguised or costumes, or just sunglasses and hats.

  1. You tell her you really want to get some pictures with her because the sunset is so beautiful, she’s so beautiful, you want to remember these moments or get a new profile picture for social media. Then, you could ā€œstruggleā€ to get a good frame up for your picture and ask someone near by (which is a friend or family member in disguise) to take a picture. You have a little back and forth banter while the phone camera is put into video mode, then, boom šŸ’

Or

  1. Maybe you could have someone you trust write ā€œMarry Me?ā€ in the sand. As you’re walking along the beach, you could point it out to her and chuckle or see if she mentions it, and get into a conversation about being proposed to on the beach. You could say you want to get a closer look. Maybe suggest taking a picture in front of it to troll your friends/family? As you’re walking over to it, have a disguised friend toss a frisbee or something at you guys (like it’s a stray frisbee disk). Then, have that person run up to you to retrieve the disk. You could invite that person on your walk to the ā€œMarry Meā€ in the sand and talk about how you two have talked about getting engaged and thought it would be fun to get some pictures in front of it. Then ask the friend if they’d be game to take pictures of you two. You hand them your phone and boom šŸ’

Detail ideas?: • You could record the conversation you have with your gf on the voice memo app on your phone.

• Once she says yes, in either case scenario, you have all of your people stand up and cheer, making it known to her that they’re all there.

• You could plan to go out for dinner at a favorite spot to be celebrate the engagement with all of your people.

• You could pack a beach side picnic or if it’s allowed, have a cookout on the beach afterwards 😊

Hopefully this helps give ideas! If not, disregard ^_^

Hey! I’m getting married in a year :)! It may be a little longer just depends on my partners masters degree completion.

We are having a micro wedding I believe, 18 people including us. And two of the guests are uncertain may not show up so it could be 16 including us.

I’m having trouble getting ideas of what to even do for a wedding, it feels pointless to have a venue and and catering ect when there is so little people.

It’s been my DREAM to get married on the beach or near the beach and I was just hoping the people of this sub could help me brainstorm ideas on what I could do? I would love some ideas or experiences on people who have had micro weddings and what you did. I didn’t even know the term micro wedding until 20 minutes ago.

Beach, forest, botanical garden?.. just how would I go about planning a non traditional micro wedding

More traditional answer: A lot of beach towns have services that focus on micro weddings/elopements. Look up some beach that you are interested in + elopement packages. Dinner cruises also do these private packages.

Also look into state park beaches they may offer for ceremonies.

Then maybe do a private room at a beach front restaurant nearby.

More unconventional option: rent a beach house for the weekend where everyone can stay. I would personally recommend not using air bnb and vrbo but instead a vacation rental agency local to the area you are looking in, only because they have more resources if their is an issue like hurricane damage, the people sell, etc. I have been left high and dry by airbnb on a vacation rental on same day as check in with no assistance to find a new place.

Do one day as a beach day with coolers of sandwiches and maybe grill out that night.

And do another day as a beach ceremony and have a service come in to do something like a seafood boil for everyone at the house.

Most unconventional:

Beach ceremony followed by a beach day as the reception. I have seen someone I grew up with do this. They had the ceremony, took some photos, then set up a bunch of pop up tents, blankets, beach chairs, and towels, everyone changed in to swimsuits and they surfed, grilled, snacked, and had a beach day as their reception. Very laid back. Very fun.

I’m a firm believer in a wedding being party someone gets married at, and it can look like whatever you want.

A book I read before wedding planning and really liked is: The Art of Gathering: How We Meet and Why it Matters. Which discusses letting your events be focused on a central purpose vs getting caught up in what is expected. The rules of good hosting still apply, make sure your guests and properly fed and watered, etc. but I think it really helps to look at events with that perspective and lets you be a little more personal and creative with the events you throw.

During Covid my son and his husband included 6 of us in their VRBO wedding. It was special and magical and memorable. Your beach wedding with your favorite people will be too.

Air BnB prohibits events on its platform, but buying out a regular Bed and Breakfast could work out for you.

Why?

A microwedding just means you have fewer guests. It doesn't mean it's less of a wedding or planning it is all that different from planning a wedding with more guests.

Have your ceremony on the beach and guests drive to a nearby reception venue/community center

beach wedding ideas

Here are some key considerations for planning a beach wedding:

  1. Venue Selection: Choose a beach that allows weddings and has the necessary permits. Consider accessibility for guests and amenities like restrooms and parking.

  2. Timing: Plan for a sunset ceremony for stunning natural lighting and cooler temperatures. Check tide schedules to avoid high tide during your event.

  3. Attire: Opt for lightweight, breathable fabrics for both the couple and guests. Consider barefoot options or sandals for comfort on the sand.

  4. Decor: Use natural elements like seashells, driftwood, and tropical flowers. Simple decorations can enhance the beach's beauty without overwhelming it.

  5. Seating Arrangements: Use lightweight chairs or benches that can withstand wind. Consider a simple aisle marked with shells or flowers.

  6. Sound System: If your ceremony is on a public beach, a portable sound system may be necessary for guests to hear vows and music.

  7. Reception Options: If you want to host a reception on the beach, consider a tent for shade and protection from the elements. Alternatively, nearby beachside venues can provide a great atmosphere.

  8. Favors: Consider beach-themed favors like personalized sunscreen, flip-flops, or small bottles of sand.

Recommendation: For a unique touch, consider incorporating a sand ceremony where you blend different colored sands to symbolize your union. This not only adds a personal element but also creates a beautiful keepsake. Additionally, hiring a local wedding planner familiar with beach weddings can help navigate logistics and ensure a smooth event.
