Choosing a color scheme for a summer wedding can be both exciting and challenging, especially when trying to balance personal preferences with seasonal themes. Here are some insights and ideas from various discussions that might help you decide on the perfect palette.
Jewel Tones vs. Pastels
Many brides and grooms express a preference for jewel tones over traditional pastel colors typically associated with summer weddings. Jewel tones like deep purple, navy blue, and emerald green can create a sophisticated and rich atmosphere [1:1],
[2:2]. For those who prefer these darker hues, incorporating elements like florals and greenery can help maintain a summery feel
[1:4].
Mixing Seasonal Themes
Some couples choose to incorporate autumnal colors into their summer weddings. This approach allows for a unique blend of warm and cool tones, such as combining teal and gold or using burgundy accents [3:1],
[3:3]. The key is to select colors that complement each other and fit the venue's aesthetic, whether it's a barn setting or a historic hotel
[3:10],
[5:5].
Personal Preferences and Venue Considerations
It's important to remember that your wedding should reflect your personal style. If you love fall colors, there's no reason not to use them in a summer wedding [3:4],
[3:7]. Additionally, consider how your chosen colors will look in your venue. For example, a beach wedding might benefit from lighter, more airy colors like peach and cream combined with greens and golds
[4:1].
Tools and Resources
For those struggling to find the right combination, tools like Coolors can help generate color palettes based on your initial choices [4:2]. Websites like The Knot and David's Bridal also offer inspiration and resources to guide you in selecting a cohesive color scheme
[2:4].
Combining Different Palettes
If you and your partner have different color preferences, consider blending your palettes. For instance, a true summer bride and soft autumn groom might combine muted blues with dusty rose or salmon to create a harmonious look that flatters both parties [5:1].
Ultimately, the best color scheme is one that resonates with you and your partner, complements your venue, and creates the ambiance you envision for your special day.
I've been wondering about this too. My date is 8/8/20 and I couldn't decide whether to go with summer or fall colors... I ended up choosing a darker purple and green color scheme!
I'm 8/8/2020 and my colors are also dark purple and green.
Oo! I love jewel tones so was thinking purple initially. That will be lovely!
This makes me feel better!
Dusty blue, rose, and grey/silver. I always wanted a winter wedding, so my colors skew that way even though it will be in August.
You do you friend and I think that totally works still. It will be beautiful :) Love dusty colors reminds me of early summer mornings!
Thank you! I’m really excited about it
I will be having my bridesmaids in three tones of blue: Marine, steel blue and dusty blue. The groomsmen will be in navy suits. A lot of blue I think sometimes but I committed to it already. I plan on complimenting them by having more florals and greenery around.
I dont think thats too much blue at all. With the navy and greenery and flowers its gonna look so pretty. I love the different tones for bridesmaids!
We're not really too fussed about colours and have basically just picked some that we like as a guide. We're doing blush pink and navy blue (the colours we'll be wearing) plus grey and gold. So pretty similar to a lot of other colour palette's mentioned here!
I'm getting married in the summer but I much prefer fall color palettes, so I'm just rolling with it. Sage green, red, navy blue, rose gold, copper... basically jewel tones, though more on the cool colors side so it doesn't scream fall.
I really dig these. I was thinking jewel tones but was worried about it not being "summery". Cooler is def a great way to go
Hello Brides and Grooms,
I'm having a really hard time choosing a colour scheme. I love deep jewel tones and loathe pastels but when looking for inspiration on Pinterest for summer weddings (date is Aug 2022) I can't seem to find anything that I like.
I had originally thought maybe a dark teal and blush could work but my fiancé doesn't want to wear either of those colours (and I would never want him to wear anything he's uncomfortable with!) so that's out. I think my sticking point is finding a dark-ish colour that will work for suits/suit jackets in August (UK August mind) and isn't grey.
If anyone has any suggestions or ideas of places to get good inspiration I'd be so grateful!
I'm early summer (late June) but I love autumnal colours. My florist used the words"west coast" to describe the colour scheme I was showing her for my flowers. Reframing it with that theme has let me get over that I'm not using typical summer colours and provided a great source of Pinterest inspiration. Maybe talk to an experienced florist or wedding designer about the images your drawn to so they can help you nail down the right words to use in your search.
Also if you want deep jewel tones in your August wedding, go for it! No one will judge you and if they do, that's super weird, totally on them, and you can judge them right back for being a weirdo overly invested in not their wedding.
Also post pics in the future please!
The further I've gotten into planning my July wedding, the more I've realised that I'm drawn to autumnal colours. I don't have a colour scheme per se but I've drifted towards deep blues, greyish blues, with some burgundy and brass. Looking to get the guys in navy suits, then weave those sorts of colours in with their ties and boutonnieres. I'll see if I can share my album of inspiration!
That would be amazing - thank you!
Check out The Knot wedding website, they have tools and links to real wedding photos to help you select colors. I feel your pain, I started with the same idea for a jewel tone scheme, and then started thinking of wine colors. I still don't know what I am going to do yet. David's Bridal also gave me a booklet with a ton of color schemes. Good luck!
The suit color doesn't need to be part of your color scheme. The guys can wear navy, and then accessorize with the color scheme through their ties, pocket squares, and boutonnieres.
Yes. My husband wore a grey suit with a deep forest green tie for our color scheme (forest green, gold, and white).
Most guys would rather just wear a regular grey/black/navy suit and accessorize in other ways.
Feel so dumb that this didn't even occur to me - thank you!
Use the colors you love. There are plenty of bright colored flowers in a summer garden

That is the bouquet of my dreams! Thank you so much for sharing.
I’ve always wanted a Fall wedding but life is busy in the fall so we chose a June date.
What are some color choices? I originally wanted oranges, reds and greens but am thinking a black and champagne to keep it simple. Our venue is a barn setting, and we’re not bright colored people.
Got married in June this year and had teal and gold - there it’s lots of Etsy/pinterest inspo
Same here! I did teal and gold as well for my June wedding. We did sunflowers as the main floral choice, and wildflowers to compliment.
We also did ours in a barn and I felt like with the wood and stone walls, it matched perfectly.
Excellent taste! 🤩👍🏻 Ours was a modern mid century hotel and it complemented everything beautifully- colours are more versatile than insta would have us believe! 🧡
Do the colors you want and don't be constrained by the idea of needing seasonal colors.
ETA - We're not bright colored people either (my dress was black) but we ended up with peacock colors because it worked with the venue and skin tone of the bridespeople.
If you wanted fall colors, then have fall colors. This wedding is about you and what you love, it isn’t about June or what June loves. Don’t cheat yourself of your own perfect wedding.
Thank you for this, I’m second guessing but gaaahhh I want nothing more than my Fall-vibe wedding
Then have fall vibes. What the weather is doing is not REMOTELY relevant, since it is not the weather’s wedding day. Don’t make this harder than it needs to be.
Then do your Fall vibe colours! In some areas of the world fall starts earlier than others
You can go with apricots and sage or mints and still have most of your dream colors.
This is a great idea.
Black and champagne don’t mix well with “barn aesthetic” in my opinion
I think it depends on the barn. I've seen some that were really upscale that the black and champagne look would be perfection, but if it's more rustic, then it might look a bit mismatched.
Can you suggest any color schemes for our fusion South Indian wedding? The actual ceremony will be on a beach in Miami. We like greens and golds, but are struggling to pin down an actual palette
I used this app: https://coolors.co/
You can input and lock whatever colors you know you want - i.e. green and gold in the shades you want - and then just keep hitting generate until you see something you like! You can also increase or decrease the number of colors it is showing.
Depends on what colour you wanna wear! There’s way too many options!
How about peach and cream tones with the green and gold? The lighter colors are beachy and the green can offset the lighter colors.
I'm trying to find a way to combine a cool true summer palette (mine) with a warm soft autumn palette (his) to create a simple wedding color scheme that'll be flattering to us both.
I've already chosen a dress that's a perfect cool, feathery shade of white satin and he's chosen a plaid suit in muted shades of dusty rose/salmon.
Let me add that our venue is a historic hotel with almost exclusively warm colors inside... we're not focusing on decorations, just adding some candles and lights.
So our color scheme will determine our flowers, table linens, bridesmaids dresses (both girls are soft autumn like the groom) and the groom's tie and pocket square.
I'm open to any and all suggestions!

This sounds similar to us, down to my husband wearing a muted rose suit. I'd bring in some muted blues to complement the rose/salmon, personally!
Thank you! Good advice
Hi guys, I am really struggling putting together a color scheme for our wedding. It will be both outdoor and indoor venue and garden party ang theme. I know I wanted greens and white/ivory colours, but can’t really put together the decors, bridesmaids and guests outfit. I have been checking out pinterest and social medias pero parang wala masyado ako nakita na either nag show ng actual photos sa weddings kaya hindi ko ma visualise. Please share naman you’re creative wit 🥹. Thank you!
Maybe instead of starting with colors, begin with the vibe or theme you wanna go for, para you can narrow down from there? Do you want
Hi there, yes I mentioned on my post that my theme is a garden party ☺️
That sounds pretty. Can you figure out why it isn’t working? Do you maybe need a couple additional colors? Perfect Wedding Guide has some nice color scheme ideas. I’d look there for inspiration.
I’m not the best with color theory, but I’m aiming for a garden-party vibe for a 2026 July wedding. Do you think these colors work together? Are there any changes you’d make to achieve the vision?
That mix of orange green mauve is killing my eyes
I would keep the green, mauve and ivory, skip the orange and pale blue, if you want a 4th color i would suggest a deep purple, plum or something.
I played with your website and i suggest the 2A082C dark purple. OR replace your orange with C36854 Jasper and keep the plum for light touch
And i agree with the other commenter, you cant pantone check flowers in a garden so i would keep options loose depending on your garden flowers !
Its just my eyes and my suggestion btw
My own screen makes the color looks a bit different than yours so maybe im completely off. Usually i got compliments on my color theory but again, i can be completely wrong
I would check to see what's blooming in your area during July. Then go with those colors.
This could be a floral palette but it's too much variance for a wedding palette imo
What if you got rid of the orange and swapped the green for something closer to sage?
Yes, much better!
The best I can offer is not to get attached to specific exact colors if you're doing a garden party type thing. Flowers can't be exactly matched to pantone colors, tablecloths may not match with bridesmaids' dresses, etc.
I'd scrap the exact hex code thing and just go with "light blue, light green," etc. so you can preserve your sanity when you're in the weeds.
Hi - I am currently stressing hardcore over my wedding colors. I'm getting married in June 2026 and am of course thinking of a garden party summer vibe, so pinks, greens, blues, oranges... you get the picture. I'm having a really hard time deciding on the EXACT colors, and pinterest is overwhelming me. Is it terrible to have a general idea for flowers and dresses, but not an exact hex code? If it's a bad idea to go general and I need firm colors, are there any services that can help me nail down the actual colors?
Hey :) I also saw that you’re getting married at Cafe Brauer, congrats! I’m a July 2026 bride. Have you found your wedding dress yet? Finding mine was SO helpful to figure out colors. I actually decided on a different color plan than what I had originally thought!
Why would it be terrible? How do you think people decorated events before hex codes were invented?
It’s actually a bad idea to have a very specific vision - the more specific it is, the harder it will be to match and the more disappointed you’ll be. Hex codes are WAY too specific for an event.
My wedding colors were blue and pink. My sister’s were pastels. A friend did jewel tones. That’s as specific as they needed to be.
This makes me feel so much better lol - I don't know why I thought I needed exact colors
Maybe get swatches like birde Grey thing.
You don’t need exact colors at all.
This was basically my color scheme, but we were in Mexico so it leans more tropical vs garden. The only thing I had EXACT colors for were the invitations and menus, but for our families outfits (we didn’t have a bridal party) they just needed to be in a certain shade and not exactly matching.
I’m looking into colors for my wedding and curious about your choice!
May wedding. We're going shades of purple and teal.
September 9, Dusty Lavender & Sage Green. I really don’t care about trends or seasons, I just want all purple everything and that’s what we’re going to do!
I'm 2 years late here, but planning on using this exact palette for our wedding next year. Do you have pics you can share??
We did this for our October wedding! Plus some plums and blush pinks.
Emerald/gem green and navy blue. Our theme is travel so we're leaning into the earth colors. Hoping it'll come out nice
My sister did the cream / sage / beige thing. It looks very elegant with her venue in Carmel. It’s a very popular combo, though I think people are finally leaning into more color!
We did autumn rose (though our wedding was in February LOL), with rusts, burgundies, rose, some dusty peaches and golds.
I really love when people have a ton of color for their spring and summer weddings especially: bright pops of yellow and pink and orange. It’s just so happy looking! (Thought I understand it isn’t everyone’s aesthetic)
Adding more colors seems to be the trend now! That combo sounds so dreamy!
I don't have a color pallet. When vendors ask me, I just tell them bright spring colors. I'm not sure if I will regret it later, but it is making florals and decorations cheaper.
My date is 8/3/2023, and I really want warm colors and decor such as oxblood, pumpkin spice, mauve/dusty rose, sage, gold, etc etc.
Is it weird to have these fall colors for a late summer wedding?
It’s not weird. I’ve never once seen someone’s colors and thought “whelp, wrong season.” My friend got married at the end of august and her colors were pinks, roses and golds so sort of springy and it was still gorgeous and I only just thought about the season correlation in reading this post.
The only time a "wrong season" feeling has come up was when my friend used navy and emerald green in May. And even then it was only because her mother kept going around saying it all day.
Haha I just went to a wedding in May with those colors and it looked great.
There’s no such thing as a “wrong season” for picking colors you actually like versus just trying to match Pinterest because it looks good on Instagram. Haha
I’m laughing at the idea of saying “I’m really happy for my friends but their colors clearly indicate that this wedding should have been in November”
Think of the season as being like a theme/colour scheme suggestion rather than a guideline.
I dont think I've ever looked at a wedding colour scheme and thought it was in the wrong season. I went to a wedding yesterday with a cornflower blue and sunflower yellow colour scheme. So what? It looked divine.
Now if you bring out literal Christmas decorations in June you might get funny looks, but otherwise do what gives you joy.
Autumn officially starts in September. Fall marketing starts in August. And even if it’s warm in early October, fall vibes are fully under way in the collective consciousness. So you’re good!
Not weird at all. Do what makes you happy :)
I think I am doing moody jewel tones for a spring wedding which probably isn't "in season" but I decided I do not care haha

Key Considerations for Summer Wedding Color Schemes
