TL;DR
Agent Impact and Utility
Certain agents are considered to have high impact due to their utility. Cypher, despite mixed opinions, can provide valuable information through his traps and camera [1:4]
[2:10]. Skye is recommended for players who may not excel in aim but can use her utility effectively to support the team
[2:1]. Breach is also noted for his ability to disrupt enemies and create opportunities for teammates
[3:1]
[4:10].
Fundamentals Over Agent Choice
Many commenters emphasize that while agent choice can influence playstyle, ranking up primarily depends on improving fundamentals such as aim, movement, and game sense [2:4]
[2:5]. Practicing mechanics and focusing on gunplay are crucial steps to climbing ranks
[2:9]
[2:12]. It's suggested that players should not rely solely on an agent's abilities but rather work on overall gameplay improvement.
Playstyle Considerations
Choosing an agent that aligns with your playstyle is important. For players who prefer a more tactical approach, agents like Omen or Cypher might be suitable [2:5]
[4:8]. Those looking to make aggressive plays might benefit from mastering duelists like Jett or Raze
[5:1]
[5:2]. Understanding your strengths and weaknesses can guide you in selecting an agent that complements your natural playstyle.
Mastering Specific Agents
While any agent can be impactful if mastered, some agents are highlighted for their potential to change the course of a game. KAY/O is mentioned for his versatile utility, including suppression and flashes [5:3]. Harbor is briefly noted without explanation, suggesting unique utility potential
[5:5]. Ultimately, mastering an agent involves understanding their abilities deeply and using them strategically within matches.
We’ve had some time now to play all the agents, so who do you see being “must pick” agents vs who do you see as lower tier?
according to shroud
s tier: Sova, Cypher, sage
a tier: Phoenix, brimstone, breach
b tier: viper, Jett, omen
c tier: raze
I agree with it except for Cypher actually. I don’t think he’s that good. You can knife his tripwire before it hits you if you’re careful, camera can be shot, and hit ult can be useless if you die in a favorable team position.
You have to remember that he gets notified if you destroy any of his traps. That's still valid information for him and his team.
lets say u are so bad ur worse than iron1 so u look for a agent that eould make it easier to rankup that requires not much aim but not much game sense (friend asked me this)
Agent doesn't matter as much as y'all think. The only time you'll rank up faster with a certain agent is when you are a LOT better than people in your elo. (1 good game doesn't count)
Not even Radiant players care that much about team comp.
Team play is more fun to play with a good comp, comms and doing util combos. However you will only start finding these teams sometimes in diamond and above.
At the end of the day, just play what you like, don't scream at your teammates when they make mistakes (it only makes things worse) and ignore prior rounds if you made mistakes. Focus on yourself and just get good at one character at the start. If you have good fundamentals, you are useful on every agent.
Why can't people get that Agent choice doesn't matter but fundamentals, aim, and macro trump anything an agent can do.
You're probably stuck Iron if you think your issue is "Man, I need an easy agent to make me climb higher. That's it. That's the solution"
gunplay, movement, aim and game sense is top priority, but agent choice does affect which playstyle you'll be picking on. Is it your suitable playstyle to rank up?
For example, I can never play duelists. I have shitty aim because I play seldom so I always lose muscle memory. I have shaky hands and just a basic requirements PC. In a game where the enemy will see you before you do if they have more frames, the duelist role never worked for me.
I might be biased but Omen helped me get out of low elo. Slow-paced tactical gameplay, depending more on deception rather than raw aim. You might not pop off each round but learning to smoke effectively for your team is easier than hauling ass in shooting range, and smokers play a huge role in winning a round. You can force enemies to play at close range if you cant snipe. It's a self sufficient controller in my opinion as you can't rely too much on teammates in low elo.
I don't need to move my fingers at 60 miles an hour to be good at Omen, unlike Reyna. I can't follow a patterned way of key movements so I cant satchel. I can't bunny hop which is required for movement based agents (mostly duelists).
Don't get me wrong. It's always good to practice the things you can't do. But if an agent's playstyle gives you an upper hand, why not switch to it?
for sure it’s good to pick an agent who’s utility mechanics you can manage. obvi omen util and timings go very deep, but some players will be naturally better at that than satcheling around or using pop flashes. i think in OP’s case though, getting out of iron is 100% tied to knowing how to move and shoot correctly - there’s no getting around it with agent selection.
I agree with your points so don't consider this an argument, but I don't like your "I can never play duelists" line, especially because you say it's your aim/mechanics. I used to say when I get to higher ranks I'm gonna stop playing duelist because I'm 27 and can't keep up with the kids but that's just a mindset I created to hold myself back. Now at my peak rank (Asc) and almost back to it in the new episode I find myself playing Jett/Raze almost 50% of the time because it's fun when your aim IS on and I can still have impact even if my aim isn't on that day (baiting for my tm8s, entrying site, Operator on defense, etc.).
So I guess my point is if you want to play a role don't let your mindset hold you back from trying to get better on that role, the brain is more powerful than you think and will believe anything you train it to :D
This. I even see lots of YouTube videos telling people to use Reyna. This creates bad habits thought becuase if you only play Reyna all the time you’re becoming dependent on her pretty unique util that you wouldn’t have with every agent. Not every agent will have a heal or dismiss. Learning to basics is what’s most going to matter
I disagree heavily on that.
Completely agree that fundamentals are what low-ranked players should focus on, but in terms of winning games, agent selection is vital. If you play without smokes, you lose. You should ideally have a good initiator like skye, gekko, maybe kayo, and other than that it doesn't matter too much
You're probably not going to like this answer but the most reliable way to get out of low elo is to just kill your opponents. Practice your mechanics, play shitloads of Deathwatch, find an aimlab routine if this is your first competitive shooter. In ranked, forget about utility, forget about theory, strategy, forget about any guides telling you to "abuse this one simple trick to get to diamond!" Run with your teammates and take every duel that presents itself. Don't even bother buying your agent's spells until you can make your crosshair do what you want it to do. In as little as a week you're going to see drastic improvement. I've seen Iron gameplay, there are no words to describe what happens down there. People playing with Sims 4 mouse sensitivity, commenting on the colour of the ceiling to their irl friend sitting next to them while a gunfight is breaking out nearby, going afk while still alive in the middle of the round to go make a sandwich... Like what the fuck lol.
The simple trick is fucking shoot them. Its so straightforward. Anything below gold is deathmatch and you need to headshot as many enemies as possible before the round ends.
Source: Am a silver player. Deranked into Bronze 3. Ranked up to Ascendant1 in one episode, not a smurf. Literally just practicing mechanics and fucking shooting them.
In my opinion it’s cypher right now, after the buff at least. If you know the setups, you can get yourself far enough without having to do much aim training.
That just means u r shit at deadlock. Learn to use her properly. The agents are not the problem, u r.
I know you didn't ask this but to rank up you should improve your gameplay instead of finding an agent. But that being said I would say, Skye because if you use her utility properly she can be really effective.
Any have some thoughts on where they all stand. Top 3 or 5?
Where does Viper stand?
Hard to rank really, viability changes on defense and attack, viper could probably be top 5 on defense but pretty close to bottom on attack. Overall top 5 for me would be.
So I want to become better in Val and start playing ranked. I am 50 level and have been actively improving in the game, (baring some whiffs here and there).
I have played a lot of Kj, Viper, Sova, Gekko and Sage. Now I want to unlock one of the other agents as well. Whom should I pick? I am not good with duelists, never can entry. I can't play other smokes cause I just can't seem to place good smokes without having issues with my team.
Can y'all help me? Ingame name is Doodles, last rank b1, ( yeah I am bad ik)
By level 50 , you could've unlocked most of the agents
Ik ik I have unlocked a lot of em, but these ones stick. That's why I wanna knw which ones still better to use Especially in comp, cause ik people throw if they see some random guy take a agent which they don't like, etc.
Your play style says vyse or cypher, but really if you want to get better with you should learn to play entry with phoenix - throwing a good flash lets you win a fight with bad ping and the healing lets you recover
I have played a lot of Vyse, but I think her slow is hard for me to use. She is powerful, but i end up using her util in not so good ways most of the time.
Cypher i feel is too 'lazy'. What i mean is that his util becomes useless when that site is not hit. His ult is strong, but I cannot imagine playing him without learning how to use his util more proactively, atleast for retakes or pushing sites.
Just takes some practise on both counts. If they stop hitting the site you're on with cypher you can leave your setup unattended and stack another site or push out off of an aggressively deep cam in main.
Overall it actually sounds like you're looking for a new agent to enable a more proactive play style which is good. Take phoenix into the range and practice getting flashes to pop only when they've just gone out of sight in the last, smallest distance possible around a corner both up high and down low. Maybe even grab clove and just start bombing your way into site with your duelist
Can you elaborate? I mean ik I can learn a lot of lineups, or weird angles to hold and stuff, but won't playing like that just lead to me dying more in real games? I get like a brun lineup or a viper lineup, but like say breach. How do u play him, especially in solo queu? Most people like to run around and do their own thing, and not wait for flashes and stuff. Or say astra. How do u play a smoke when ur team is not cooperating?
What I'm saying is val comp can't truely be fun unless I try to fill the gaps in my team, cause otherwise we lose. Most want to play duelist or initiator, but can't frag out or play for picks. Ik that in higher elo this is not that big of an issue, but my god I just can't seem to win playing for fun, uk? I tired playing omen or raze or yoru, the typical 'fun' agents, but none seem to work.
Oh I see what you mean. When it comes to competitive most people wanna win (duh). But there is a correct way to win. When I say learn an agent I mean more like learn how to win with that agent. When I watched flights and Jinggg play raze, I fell in love. Went straight into a custom and practiced satchels. In comp I would legit just spam those satchels and climbed to diamond pretty easily. After that, I watch more pro vods in ranked and learned the correct way to entry, the correct pacing, correct util etc. You're right that ranked is a mess and you kinda have to play around that. People will absolutely do their own thing, but what you wanna focus on is just putting your team in a winning position. For example duelist need to get that first blood because the win potential of the round skyrockets. Also the idea that comp matters is a bit controversial, because every comp has their strengths and weaknesses. In ranked most people dont even play their agent correctly. Comms always help, but when the team isnt commimg you kinda have to play around them. My friend plays breach and he just stares at the minimap and throws utility when the teammates are going out on their own. My recommendation is find an agent you like, learn the correct way to play them and apply it to ranked. For example ascent omen defense. Omens usually play cat or dice. Wait for the enemy to come in and blind then tp out. Playing like that puts that omen in the best spot for the round win.
Learn a reliable smoker like clove or omen, usually your team needs one.
I tried Clove.
She is good, but she is like the Reyna of controllers. Her smokes are good, and her decay is overpowered. And the overheal is absolutely busted. But the thing is she is too self centered. Her kit is not tuned in with her teammates. I find it hard to use her decay a lot of times, mostly cause my positioning is not good. BUt i still pick her when i need to fill for smokes.
Omen on the other hand, is tricky. I used to play a lot of omen (in unrated, before level 20), but i mess up his blind and tp a lot. I watched a lot of Flexninja to learn good tps, but in the end I still get rekt. Maybe its my aim messing up, but i find it hard to play him, especially when playing solo.
Well, if you can't smoke or play dueslists maybe you should try an initiator. I was going to say KAY/O as always but you said you can't entry aswell.
Can you tell me your playstyle? Maybe we can find something with that.
Usually I play a bit back, try and help my team with picks and backstabs. I don't entry cause I just can't seem to out aim my opponents most of the time. Doesn't help that I have ping issues a lot, so the bullets sometimes don't even connect.
I like flashing, but only because I love gekko and the amount of small holes Dizzy can go through to blind people unexpectedly.
And I love to control the map. I like viper cause of that. Her wall is super helpful in directing the site. And her ult is crazy for holds, especially on defence.
I like sage mostly cause I see a lot of grimm plays, so I feel inspired lot. Also she's good when nothing's working and u just wanna support.
What I'm saying is that I don't like too much aggression. I don't like to over extend and get killed. I just like playing slow, maybe camp with a shotgun sometimes. And help my team mostly, whether with flashes or reveals. Or just watching flank.
Play Cypher or breach.
I know people play mostly what they enjoy and I get that, but after kind of playing on and off due to playing other games or real-life/work taking over, I've realized I genuinely love playing this game.
I'm still trying to get used to holding angles properly, improving my aim, but I also want to be able to make a big impact in my ranked games. I used to play Cypher but after having a long-streak of bad luck i kind of associated him with losing and the amount of trips and cage setups that I needed to remember made me feel overwhelmed. I'm someone that doesn't like entry/taking duels, i'm okay with initiator but I know that I suit the sentinel role/controller role the most.
I was thinking of maybe playing Viper, and despite having bad luck with Cypher, maybe actually take the time to actually learn and remember his trips and setups. I also was curious about Sova as well but I don't know.
I know people play what they enjoy, and despite unlocking almost every character, I've really only limited myself to Breach and Cypher.
The scariest to play against is a raze who has the movement down. Shotgun only, too. I can’t beat them.
Kayo, with just a knife or if you can handle flashes you will be very useful and you can learn the grenade lineup
I think any agent is destructive if mastered. So learn the one you like.
Harbor. No explanation required
For me it'll always be Jett. Duelists who can entry and get a pick will do so much.
And in defense, if you're struggling, you pick the OP and go agressive + dash out.
I haven't played Valorant since 2022. What are the absolute best Agents in the game right now and which are the worst?
I’m in Bronze, so every agent on the enemy team is S Tier and every agent on my team is F Tier
Especially enemy Reyna is S Tier.
lmfao but yeah deadlock is very bad, she can’t really cover flank because u can just walk past her trips. Cypher is pretty op rn though.
S: Deadlock
F: Everyone else
I have twice as many aces with deadlock than with any of the other agents, while playing deadlock way less hours then my main agents. What does this mean?
Your teams have been playing 4v5 and losing faster
Deadlock S+ because of the short blonde hair!
She is a very well designed character...
Not gameplay wise though
Cypher got jacked up so well his pick rate has increasedq
Yes, Cypher has really been pushed. Pick rate and win rate have increased significantly
No way his pick rate increased?!
Finally my bald guy is being discovered.
He's my favorite agent EVER. Nothing can top him. I might not be the best with him, but I love playing him.
Just place traps and camera and spectate everything from a corner. Half of my rounds I just sit like a security guard 🫠🫠
1: KAY/O is gonna have to be first he has a free knife skin as his E but he loses it when he throws it so he's kinda bad most of the time.

2: Cypher has the best voice lines no doubt about it not an opinion it's a fact. You can also spam his ult voiceline because you never get in range to use it.

3: Jett is probably the best because a level 2 guy always picks her and gets 40 kills so she's probably really easy to learn and play.

4: Phoenix has a nice jacket

8: Raze can utilize her Blast Packs in order to further increase her mobility due to the game's airstrafing mechanics allow her to quickly maneuver onto site and die instantly.
The new meta
triple duelist and no smokes, just like my silver rank games
I became an omen main for this excat reason and I don't regret it tp plays are to fun to make
I've deranked straight down to silver 3 and that exact scenario has happened my last few games.
And somehow occasionally diamond games
This is sad. I just picked up the game and instantly fell in love with viper.
Brimstone is a bit weird and I dont have Omen yet.
Viper, sage, sova all awesome.
hornyrable mention: viper because nice ass
brimstone thiccer shush
CHAMBER COMES WITH FREE SHERIFF AND OP SKIN COME ON
100 creds for 1 bullet?? I cryyyy
this one is too funny
Ratio’d 🤡
hi i just started to play Valorant and im rly bad at it :(
Could someone give me some tip on what agents to get and even maybe some nice cheap skins idk
thanks and have a nice day!
go into the range, and test the agent abilities, whatever clicks with you, try to aim to unlock them
you like playing DPS / in-your-face playstyle? play a duelist
you like supporting your team by disrupting or stalling the enemy? play an initiator
you like making your own domain with tripwires, scanners and other sorts of defensive utility? play a sentinel
you like shaping the map to your own liking, blocking vision of enemies and making it hard to contest ground? play a controller
i'd suggest having 2-3 mains, since you will get less bored maining more than 1 agent
don't worry about skill, it will naturally come with playtime, i play since 2022 and still suck, but it's very fun so i don't really care
if you want skins, then wait until you have enough radianite to upgrade them (you get radianite with the free version of the battlepass, radianite is currency with the big R on it)
when you get a solid amount of radianite, see which gun you perform best with, just keep in mind that knives are universal and you will always look at them when rotating or else, but are 2x / 3x more expensive than gun skins
some gun skinline recommendations (that are less than 2000 vp / 20$ max) : prime, gaia's vengeance, reaver, xerofang, oni, sovereign
some knife skinline recommendations (that are less than 3600 vp / 35$ max) : xenohunter knife, recon balisong, gaia's wrath, sovereign sword
remember, skins aren't mandatory, but are cool to look at
This is actually a solid guide
Phoenix is nice for the beginning has a very straightforwardly playstyle for new agents just watch some vids abt them read abt what they do and pick who u like there is no bad/good choice here. A few mught say stay away from yoru/astra at the beginning bcs they are more complicated but go for who u like.
Skins wise the cheapest would be the agent ones ud need kingdom credits for that but ull also need them to buy new agents. (Id go for agents)
Otherwise next cheapest would be the battlepass, this one has some decent ones I have to say thats 1000VP (ValorantPoints) and costs real money. Lastly the store, good skins in there cost atleast 1750VP and more but again real money.
Skins wise the cheapest would be the agent ones ud need kingdom credits for that but ull also need them to buy new agents. (Id go for agents)
Actual cheapest ones would be the free ones from battlepass. The one at level 50 for a pistol.
True true I forgot abt them
Keep playing, watch youtube and don't beg for skins
i play aggressive and i'm a top/2nd place fragger. right now i main jett (i also have like 300 hours in csgo so that betters my aim and game sense)
If you have confidence and think you can learn quick.. clove ( sss+ tier), Reyna/jett/phoenix (S tier, don't need any support to carry), ISO/ neon (do need some support usually to carry). If you want to carry your teammates but don't want to be a dulist or a hyper aggressive player, your best bet would be cypher(gekko also works till low plat ). Contrary to popular opinion I would avoid omen.. i don't feel like it's util is enough to carry games as frequently as other. Even tenZ doesn't like playing omen in ranked cuz its a character you need some teamwork to play around
Omen is 10x better than clove in every way though. His tp’s can give him advantages over most agents, his flash is basically undodgeable if you know how to use it and his smokes last longer and he can do oneways in absurd spots that clove never can.
There must be a good reason clove has the highest win rate of all agents by a HUGE margin.. while omen has one of the lowest. If you want to push ranks, you need have an aggressive role to lead your team, that is why most top players prefer duelist. Clove is an extremely aggressive agent, more so than omen. Comparing their abilities is useless
Thanks
“Im level 5 levels away” stroke = miss spelling or wrong sentences
I agree with you, but these games require a lot to know before you jump into competitive.
I just don’t want to see you suffering miserably if you queue with someone higher rank and you don’t understand shit about angles, aim, abilities and such. Not for my sake, yours, these guys can be just as toxic as cs players, which would result you leaving the game and community losing another guy who seems enthusiastic about the game. Im with you not against you, just suggested an agent and pointed out a fun part in the post.
Good luck!
Reyna, iso, phoenix or jett if your mechs are truly superior
Bro everyone is having a stroke in this summer like. 300 hours is like nothing fella, I came with 1600 from cs still barely able to get plat. If you have a good setup, mentality, time to learn things then I suggest phoenix.
So sick of everyone suggesting Reyna in these posts. No wonder there are constant instalock Reynas who are absolutely terrified to entry
Picking a hero you enjoy, and learning them inside and out, will be significantly better for you than just going with whatever people tell you
And why aim when you can Stinger Only
BIG stinger only neon bought up all the russian bot accounts to spread their message.
lmaoo
It's my first time playing the game and I received a agent recruit. I have 0 knowledge on whos better so I'm not really sure who to pick here.
I would recommend either Fade or Skye. Fade is pretty good and relatively easy to get the hang of, while Skye provides both healing and flashes with basically a drone as the cherry on top. Not to mention both of their ults let you find enemies way easier
I dunno about Skye as a recommendation for new players, remember they are new. They could flash themselves or their teammates. Fade I can see though.
Well I started by getting them all over time and then deciding who to main based on my experience
Go watch videos. Pick who looks cool. Enjoy
Astra cause why not
Go onto the range. You get to select and tryout every agent. Pressing F1 also gives you an explanation on their abilities.
Pick the one you like and have the most fun with.
