TL;DR
Popular Weight Loss Apps
Several apps have been frequently mentioned across discussions for tracking weight loss. Lose It! is highly favored for its user-friendly interface and effective calorie tracking capabilities [1:1]
[2:3]. The app offers both free and premium versions, with the latter providing additional features. MyFitnessPal is another widely used app that excels in tracking food intake and calories
[4:2]
[5:4]. Users appreciate its extensive database and barcode scanning feature.
Free Weight Tracking Options
For those specifically looking to track weight without focusing on calorie intake, Happy Scale has been recommended as a positive and motivational tool [1:2]
[3:3]. It breaks down weight goals into milestones and provides helpful charts to visualize progress. Monitor Your Weight is another free option that offers various metrics like BMI and body fat percentage
[3:1].
Comprehensive Health Tracking
Samsung Health is noted for its comprehensive tracking capabilities, including steps, exercises, meals, sleep, and more [2:2]. It's completely free and available on Android devices, making it accessible for many users. However, it may not provide specific guidance on how to lose weight.
Unique Features and Alternatives
Some apps offer unique features that might appeal to specific users. Foodvisor is praised for its clean design and unlimited scan tries for food tracking [4:4]. For those who prefer a simpler approach, WeightHawk provides basic weight and food tracking
[5:1]. Additionally, using tools like Google spreadsheets or Notion can be a customizable way to track weight loss progress, though they may require more manual input
[5:2].
Overall, choosing the best app depends on individual preferences, whether you want detailed calorie tracking, simple weight monitoring, or a comprehensive health overview.
What apps are you all using to track your weight loss? Any free ones that you all recommend?
Hello! I use the following apps and found them extremely helpful: •Happy Scale: the most positive weight tracker, breaks down weight goals by milestones, projects weight trends and has easy logging and helpful charts.
•Renpho: it came with the scale I purchased. Gives stats on muscles/fat/bmi/ bone mass. If you have their digital tape measure, it will synch and save those measurements as well. Extremely informative and valuable for keeping muscle loss at bay. Highly recommend both.
•MeThreeSixty: takes a scan of your body to track changes. Love this app for visualization when you “don’t see the changes”. I’ve found their measurements to be not quite as accurate as a tape, but helpful nonetheless.
•Lose It: this is a terrific app to track food intake and weight. It has helpful meal plans as well. It breaks down macros for you in easy to read graphs so you can track nutritional values. (Extremely helpful for me as a diabetic counting carbs!) This app is also positive for weight loss goals. It tracks your milestones with graphics of everyday items that correlate to your loss; ie: You’ve lost as much as a basketball! A corgi! Very fun and cute. It also integrates with your iwatch to track steps and exercise. 👏 *I did purchase the lifetime membership for $100 as I wished to utilize the additional options and found this app to be worth it.
Best of success to you!
We're glad to hear you're loving our products! 💙💪
I use LoseIt to track calories, Shotsy to track weight trends tied to dosage.
Same
I developed DoseDiary and released it online for free. Ultimately I did it because I wanted certain features to be free that cost in other apps.
That and it stretched coding skills which is always good.
Is this available for Android? It's not coming up for me in play store. Thanks!
It's not on either store, it's a universal app currently. So you can get it via the website and install it from there.
I will be bringing it out on the app stores eventually but the functionality will be identical, the only real change will be the ability to get data from apple health kit and Google fit etc.
Can Reta be added to the diary?
Yes, it's coming very soon
I use Dose Diary. Works extra well because it’s designed by someone using MJ themselves and people in the community helped by saying what we would like. Plus the app designer is very responsive to suggestions and it’s constantly evolving as people want new things from it. 11/10!! 👍🏻
I’m a big fan of Lose It! but I found this new one called MyNetDiary and it has been fantastic. So much easier to chart what you’re eating and it tracks so many things for you. There is a free version, but I also did upgrade for a month to see what it was like and it was so worth it. I started using this less than a week ago, and I have dropped 4 pounds since April 2! I’ve been doing MJ since the end of September 24 and I’m currently on 12.5, and have lost 51 pounds. I had been on a stall for about a month and actually gained a couple of pounds. Not sure if it’s my body or the app but I think both working together has made a difference. I’m a lot more aware of what I’m eating as far as nutrition-wise not just calories. I also have a Renpho scale/app and I would suggest that as well. Happy Scale is great too.

I’m 295 LBs, 5’9, and male. I want to lose weight now that I’m out of school, and I’ve tried off and on to exercise, but I’ve always fallen out of it, and now I’m in the 3rd time around and I’m honestly overwhelmed by all these tips and sources and I’m not sure how to really organize or use them, so I’m looking for an app or application that can help me keep trick and figure out what I have to do. Most I’ve seen though want a subscription or they don’t really tell me what I need to do, so does anyone know any good alternatives?
I just use Samsung health. It tracks steps, you can input exercises (either in time or after the fact), you can log meals really easy and it has a huge calorie counting database, you can enter sleep, weigh ins, water consumption, and it's 100% free and won't bug you about buying things. If you don't have a Samsung you can still download it on any android device. Not sure about Apple.
If you want something to tell you how to lose weight it won't really do that. But really the key to losing weight is eating in a calorie deficit. Exercising helps and you can gain muscle and it's very good for your health but ultimately, you lose weight through diet. Try googling how many calories you need to stay under to lose weight. And maybe try calorie counting for a bit to see how many calories you typically eat?
Good luck!
Lose it!!! I have premium now but it was super useful just at the free version and they’re always offering big discounts on the premium version
Lose it!
Lose it.
Cronometer is the best purely data-driven app if you care about logging exactly what you eat. Other apps may have easier features for scanning barcodes, social media, etc.
I don't need an app to track calories and food intake (I use the free version of My Fitness Pal). I'd like to use something to track my weight. Looks like most apps require a subscription which I don't want. Anyone know of free apps that are good for this?
Check out Trainest app! It's free and it also has progress feature to keep you motivated. Very user-friendly and help me helped me stay on track.
Cool thank you!
Happy Scale
Happy Scale!!
I agree happy scale!!
I use Monitor Your Weight. Totally free to use and has some cool features that show you a graph of your weight loss, BMI, calories, body fat %, how much you have lost, and average daily loss etc.
Straight to the point: what would be best app(s) that keep track of what I eat and/or activities I do to lose weight?
To include, no subscriptions and no need to signup.
I mostly eat at home and eat meat only once a month. I haven't been on a weight scale in ages, but see myself looking a little chubby.
Any tips or suggestions are welcomed.
MyFitnessPal is great!
Fitness Pal
Try san mig coffee Ns (if nag calorie df ka ang bilis niyang maka poop
I really like Foodvisor not only because of the clean design but also because of the unlimited scan tries u get which are limited or even only available for money on other tracking apps
LoseIt is great for tracking calories.
I have been using Notion to do so. I add my daily weight to a table, and at the end of the week I have to manually get the mean for the week, subtract it from last weeks mean, add that to the description, reset the whole table and add the next week's dates. As you can imagine this whole process is a pain....
Is there a better way of logging in my progress? (Preferably with something I can have on my computer and my phone, and that it's free.)
I'm mostly using a Google spreadsheet I found at one point to track the loss. For the actual fitness and food, MyFitnessPal and Fitbit, mostly, with a side of Google docs for tracking actual workouts and the aftermath for future adjustment.
Happy Scale is really good and it’s free!
Happy Scale is awesome. It smooths the curve which helps me not obsess over every weigh-in, but I can still see the data points which also helps.
just tried that one, too bad you gotta pay to have it on multiple devices, but its exactly what I was looking for
No, it's non-desktop.
Can’t believe my fitness pal hasn’t been mentioned! I love it but not sure about using it on a Mac, I’ve only used it on my phone.
My pants (:
WeightHawk is great if you want a simple app to track weight and food.
HappyScale for weight, LoseIt for food.
I use MyFitnessPal so I can track food, exercise, and weight/measurements in one go.
Somewhere in this group I found a spreadsheet. It is everything I wanted. You type in your info and it calculates everything for you. If you type “Weight Tracking Spreadsheet” in the search you should find it. I also use Shotsy.
Libra for weight.
Lose It! is my favorite. I track my meals there too because I’m tracking protein, but overall I like the UX of Lose It more than any other app
Lose it definitely! And it’s free
I like Lose It too. My Fitness Pal is similar and useful but I just prefer the look/feel of Lose It
I'm the opposite - I love the interfact of MyFitnessPal but didn't like Lose It at all! May be worth OP trying both :)
Seconding Lose It! A lot of people like either Lose It or My Fitness Pal. Personally I love the look and layout of lose it
I would recommend trying a couple out to see what you like best. I use MyFitnessPal but have for years before there were many other options. I’ve tried out LoseIt and some others, but I’m so used to MFP and it has all my recipes, routinely eaten foods, etc, that I “don’t like” others. That is to say, I’m used to MFP, so it’s hard to switch.
All that ranting to say, give different ones a try and see what works best for you.
Happy Scale for tracking weight without getting obsessive. MyFitnessPal for tracking food; lots of useful tools to discover over time. FitBit for tracking calories burned. All three together sync up and make a nice set of tools for a successful journey to a healthier body.
is there a app like happy scale but with a option to just see progressive graph with out knowing your weight?
Can I ask what tools on MFP you’ve found? I just discovered the weekly calories graph and love it!
I definitely recommend my fitness pal. I’ve used the free version for a year now and I am happy with it.
I've been tracking with Libra, happy with it so far
I've been on Mounjaro since Oct. '24, making steady progress, I'm officially down 41lb, 29 to go. I'm looking for a weight and inch loss tracker app. I've been weighing and measuring weekly, just making a note on my phone. I'd like to be able to put all that info in to an app that can graph everything for me. Recommendations?
DoseDiary is adding food tracking (scan barcode I think), calories, protien TDEE etc in a future update.
Till then it does all the other things you mentioned, chart tracking injections against weight loss.
/u/gravath is it's developer and he's very approachable.

Shotsy (tracks the jabs and weight) Nutracheck Better weight Weight tracker
I use both Libra weight manager and shotsy personally.
The 7 day smoothing with Libra really helps see the overall trend.
Nutracheck would be my recommendation. Pics below show what you can input and track:
As a bonus their food catalogue for counting calories is out of this world. Blows myfitnesspal out of the water IMO.
Which apps are you guys using for tracking your weight loss?
I haven't decided if I want to do measurements or just lbs.
Thank you!
Loose It this time. Used My Fitness Pal before.
I use Happy Scale… and TAKE MEASUREMENTS! It helps keep the motivation going for the times when the scale might not be moving…
I like Lose It! I pay for the upgraded version
I have used MyFitnessPal for over 1100 consecutive days. I track both macro and micro nutrients, in addition to calories. Integrates well with my Withings scale app.
Hi all,
I am on a mission to lose weight, 4 stone to be precise as I am overweight (yes I know it's going to very hard) and I am going to have to very disciplined in what I eat and doing more exercise!
I wanted to know what are the best apps to download for for tracking what you eat/counting calories? I have heard many people say that apps can be very helpful with your weight loss journey and can even be a motivation tool! Please can you recommend apps that have a simple interface and are easy to use. I dislike apps that have a lot going on and done have a clean interface.
Thank you
Lose It! Such a good app
I use Chronometer but I am in Australia and it has a lot of supermarket items. I have found it accurate paired with the food scale.
Felllow Aussie here, never heard of this, will check it out
Standard woollies, Cole’s, aldi?
Yes they have a lot of those products, I've measured aldi freezer items and Woolies and Coles brand lite milk and branded items and they all line up with the listed calories on the packaging. Not sure how extensive the selection is but they have majority of the things I use and buy daily across the three majors.
I use Qalzy. I think it's the only one that's 100% free and has no hidden subscriptions. It also has an AI scanner and a barcode scanner for quick logging
I hate paying for apps, but I paid for a lifetime subscription to Lose It. It is extremely well made and I wanted to support the developers.
How much did it cost? Is it easy to use?
